The other German suggestions were good. I also thought of gultigfreude for when Mudiays your firm predictions that he will always be awful. It means guilty pleasure.

Looking at Mudiay’s career TS%, he went from .434 as a rookie, to .484 his second year, and in Denver he was a .504 before he got traded here (and saw his TS% take a mighty dip down to .428). This season he’s up to a .537, which seems in line with the progression he had been making year over year. He’s still only 22 (23 in March), and his biggest issue from watching him play is the guy simply can’t convert lay ups. If he figures out that part of the game and cuts his turnovers down, he may eventually look like a back up point guard.
Developing backup PGs is something we do very well here.
Last night he looked like a starting pg don’t lie to yourself. In fact he looked like the best oh we’ve seen here in years. For one nite.
Why didn’t he play down the stretch ?
I hate to admit it but yes, Mudiay has looked like our best PG this year.
He and Burke combined for 1 assist last night, though.

Yeah, Mudiay has had a problem similar to frank where he passes up open shots. Last night, all but one or two of his shots were the best possible shots for that possession. He’s guilty until proven innocent, but he had a good game last night.
Also, really liked how Knox played at the 4, other than the foul trouble.

It just kills me that the wasted cap space on lee and THJr are going to prevent a major transformation of this franchise

Mudiay has a long way to go before he’s any good. Right now he’s at the stage where he gets some extra very good looks because defenses are more worried about other options. If he gets to the stage where he’s knocking down open looks consistently enough, he’ll stop getting the same looks.
In the beginning of the season Frank was WIDE open. He had a chance to set his feet and shoot in rhythm. That’s why I immediately predicted a decline. He started making a few so defenses tightened up a little and now some of them are tougher. That’s part of what Trier and Dotson are going through too. Everyone knows you can’t leave Trier wide open and that he can create and score efficiently off the dribble. So they are tightening up.

I’d like to see some examples of Mudiay getting open looks because of reputation. That sounds like nebulous spacing conjecture. He’s a 6’5” guard on a terrible team with no real offensive scheme — no one is leaving him open.
Jeez, Donovan Mitchell 31 points on 35 shots and zero assists vs. Philly last night. The next highest in shot attempts was 12 by Ingles .
I don’t know if it’s coaching or something, but that doesn’t exactly seem like a recipe for long term success.
On the other side of the coin, Butler was a beast, 28 points on 15 shots. I guess last night he was a good “fit”.
There was a funny Tweet about Mitchell, “Donovan Mitchell is gonna be Efficiency Twitter™’s punching bag this season I see it coming already.” Oh, you mean the guy who had one of the all-time inefficient games is going to be criticized by people who like efficiency? Crazy!

In what way? We’re going to clear up a max spot even if it takes a 2nd round pick or two to do so. Their salaries could certainly be put to better use, but I don’t see them preventing a major transformation.
Bold prediction:
Unless Frank or Trey go on a 2-way tear, Mudiay isn’t giving up the starting nod for the foreseeable future. And, yes, he has been looking like a legit NBA 1 now that he’s starting to not get in his own way.
Yeah, I think Mudiay will start unless and until he starts stinking up the joint. I also think that Fiz is losing patience with Frank as a PG, as he should.

I love watching Mitchell sometimes but I have a good guess that it will turn sour very soon.

That’s… actually a very accurate description. I would argue that Mitchell is probably a better defender because Westbrook sometimes barely tries, but OKC has been amazing on defense with him and his steals numbers have been great, so I don’t think there’s an edge here too.
At least he owned up to it.

would’ve been pretty interesting last night for Fizdale to try Frank on Jrue in that Brow PNR and switching it rather than whatever you call what they actually did. I don’t mind Jrue trying to take MitchRob 1-on-1 (interesting to watch at least), and I would bet that Frank would at least force Davis to take a tough shot whether on a post move or forcing him to drive a smaller player with quick feet.
Robinson doesn’t really understand the spacing of how to show/recover etc. yet. I think we would’ve been much better off encouraging the Pels to play 1-on-1 even in a mismatch setting.
Didn’t get to see the game last night, so I just watched the 1o minute You Tube vid where they show all the baskets.

If Frank is having shoulder issues maybe they should sit him for a bit- rolling him out there injured certainly isn’t going to help his confidence/shooting issues.

I think we have the worst roster in the league. We’re in front now but time will even that out.
I’d say PHX if they weren’t in the west. When ATL gets John Collins back, they might be a bit better. But doubtful that we will ever be as bad as them and CLE unless Timmy gets hurt.
The 2011-12 Bobcats had an SRS of -13.96, which I believe is the 2nd-worst of all time. Even the 10-72 Sixers were around -10, which is typical for the league’s worst teams. The Hawks would be challenging for the worst SRS ever if they keep this up, currently sitting at -13.3. Their roster is utter garbage — there’s no one that I would take on the Knicks right now if my goal were to win more games. Plumlee, Bazemore, Dedmon, Len — all trash. Trae Young has been a dud, which is fine, but man, that Dallas trade looks worse and worse.
Hard to see the Knicks as worse. Kanter is a sieve but still an elite offensive player. Hardaway has huge holes in his game but he’s at least a league-average SG. And of course, Mitch is the future at C, and is putting up great numbers when he sees the floor.
Our SRS is -3.53, 23rd in the league. It seems unlikely we will get worse as the season goes on.
Especially if we play Trey.

The Knicks have so little talent. If for instance Hardaway and/or Kanter go down for an extended period of time scoring will be even harder to come by.
Of course other teams will likely have injuries too. Cleveland and Atlanta do look tough to out suck. With his roster there is a chance the Knicks can do it.
The comment on the last thread that Anthony Davis and KD are going to join LeBron with the Lakers next year made me violently nauseous. Of course the league mandated “steer the best players to the Lakers” policy will probably come into play and make this happen. Count on Davis ending up there.

Why would the league care if the Lakers are great? It wouldn’t help with revenue sharing. Thinking about it, it probably helps with the national TV contract, but then again, the same would be true if the NY teams were non-garbage…
