MIAMI — When the New York Knicks visit the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, the injury list may be more impressive than the players actually on the court.

I love how much Spoelstra loves Fizdale (and vice versa).

    Coaching camaraderie is fun!

And Spoelstra’s a great coach. Not all coaching trees work out, but the fact that Spoelstra so clearly admires our guy is one of the things that makes me feel good about Fiz’s regime so far.

Hoping Fiz took Frank aside after the Milwaukee game and gave him the same come-to-Jesus-and-shoot-the-ball lecture he did after the first preseason game. Maybe if he does it enough time, the lesson will sink in. The problem seems mainly mental.

I’m going to start counting every time the Knicks pass up a 3 to attempt a tough 2.

    1. I guess Trey’s 600 2pt FG% from last year was not sustainable.
    2. Timmy needs to stop fighting with the refs. I’m getting melo flashbacks.
    3. I love Kanter’s old school post up game.

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

Frank looks up sees Olynyk on him and thinks “swing it”

Are NBA players allowed to take testosterone shots?

It’s really just bad timing that Hezonja is not competing for the scoring title as the first pick in the expansion draft

In this new “defense is when the other guy happens to miss his unguarded shot” version of the NBA Kanter seems like kind of a valuable player

Nice job by the bench. Still recovering from the Frank coast to coast dose.

    @7

We could also send him to learn how to be aggressive as a point guard with Diana Taurasi, but I guess she doesn’t have much testosterone to help in this case 😉

Don’t overdo it. There’s good stuff about Knater but he’s still the guy who gets searched and destroyed in the PNR in every future playoff game (on a hypothetical playoff team). No way is he worth $20m and Timmy’s overpay isn’t a good baseline. Scoring is up a lot and will probably stay up somewhat, but the free movement emphasis will fade a bit and I’m betting the playoffs will still look pretty familiar.

@8 It all depends on whether Kanter can maintain averaging a double-double and also if he develops the 3pt shot and also if he starts to block shots.

Some very not-good play by Josh Richardson has been NYK’s best friend. He had four turnovers and shot 0-3, so he killed a lot of possessions for MIA

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

I’m not sure how much Kanter is worth, but I don’t find the C situation amusing.

Last year we had a glut at C between Kanter, O’Quinn, Hernangomez ,and Noah. Three of them are gone and there’s a good chance Kanter is going to leave or we are going to overpay him. If he leaves, we actually won’t have a C unless you think Robinson is going to be ready to start (which seems optimistic). I’m not sure how you can screw up a situation worse than they have. We should still have Hernanagomez. Then we could allow Kanter to walk. Willy is basically the same player (probably on his way to being better) except that’s he’s younger and would be cheaper. At a minimum, they should have seen this coming (because it was obvious) and given O’Quinn another 1 year deal until they see how it all plays out.

@20 – Agree 100%. How we went from a team with a strong front court to a team made up of 1-way wings is puzzling. I hate that we gave up Hernangomez.

Seriously, this kid needs to supplement whatever it is that makes some people more aggressive, fearless, confident, arrogant etc… than the average person. You need that to be a top athlete and definitely need it to be a star.

I liked that Hardaway yelled at Kanter for not helping on defense.
    Put in the second unit.

I mean did you see that play. There is not a big man in the NBA who bothers Tyler Johnson less than Kanter did when he waltzes by Timmy.

Dred, I thought our defense was remarkably good. Our starters offense, was not; altgough I will say they got some good shots and just missed them

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

    Kanter -6
    Vonleh +9

Anyone tracking that so far this year?

    @23

Oh I surely agree. It’s hella annoying because most of the times when he is aggressive good things happen, and he’s such an aggressive and confident defender already.

First unit is molasses. Burke does do some probing nicely but ultimately they don’t execute.

Tyler Johnson looks like he should be the villain-protagonist in the next Making a Murderer sequel

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

Knicks 9-14 from 3 and only up 3. Not a good sign.

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

I love Dotson more and more every game. We have so few players that can contribute on both sides of the ball. He can.

Tim Hardaway Sr said it was okay for him to root for Tim Hardaway Jr because “he grew up in Miami”.

Knicks solid effort again so far. Shooting 60% from beyond the arc, that will even out in the second half. Lance actually contributing a little.

This Knick team stays in games because they play hard, but they lose games because there just aren’t very many skilled players. They have no way to get easy baskets.

I thought offensive FT/FGA would be a huge weakness for this team because nobody can really take the ball to the hole very well. There are a lot of guys out there with very low FT rates. This game is kind of Exhibit A as far as that’s concerned.

I know Frank is young and all but he does not exactly give you a lot to dream on when he has the rock in his hand. He looks like he is allergic to the basketball.

Did the Knicks really just give up 44 points in a quarter? That’s pretty impressive!

That third quarter was the first time this year that the team looked like it just sort of quit. Perimeter defense was nonexistent.

“With the sixth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select… Quentin Grimes, guard, Kansas”

    #DolansRazor

Mitch needs to chill when he doesn’t get the lob in traffic. Can’t be doing that rook shit where you pout when you miss a dunk opportunity.

Are we just calling clear outs for Mario every play? Is that the break glass plan this year? I’m okay with it.

Deflating loss, they played like shit and the effort level was nowhere close to the previous games.
    Blah.

On the plus side, at least we bucked the trend of poor NBA defence to start the season and kept them to under 120 points.

Eh. Sucks that it happened against a middling team like the Heat, but you gotta think this team will have a clunker every so often.

    ZION ZION ZION

I can keep this up for months

I, like you, think Zion would be perfect in orange and blue next fall. He reminds me a bit of Larry Johnson with Lebron-ish explosiveness.

NBADraft.net has his NBA comparison as Rodney Rodgers. For a top 3 pick to a team in desperate need of talent, that would be a tremendous bust. Please tell me they have no idea what they are talking about. That his game will translate against the best of the best in a modern half court offense.

Well, this was the first very ugly game out of probably many, but that’s what we expected anyway. A team that tries but is obviously lacking in talent in most parts of the roster. Miami is incredibly well coached and has a deep roster, so it makes sense. Zion is a possibility.

Well. That was pretty bad. But we played our same basic game, just without Burke or Trier scoring. They exploited our bad individual defense on the perimeter and our lack of rim protection inside. I think Frank upped his eFG%, 9 on 7 is pretty good for him. Nice to have a Mitch sighting. The Heats defense on our penetrators was solid, and we settled for a bunch of 18 foot pick and pops. Would have been nice to see more adjustment in the third but we’re so young I’m not upset about it.

Also, how fucking good is Kawhi Leonard? I almost forgot how amazing of a player he is last season.

    Our ideal starting lineup:
    Tim Tankaway Jr.
    Enes Tanker
    Lance Tankas
    Trey Burtanke
    Ftank Ntilitanka

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

    Donovan Mitchell

    38 points
    14/25 FGs
    4/9 three pointers
    6/8 FTs
    5 rebounds
    7 assists

    And they won.

    You were saying?

They have his size rated as a 7. He’s 6’6″ and 280 lbs. and not fat. As my wife likes to reassure me, girth is no less important than length. They also have his post skills a 7. Have they watched any tape at all? He’s a bully in the post. Just because he doesn’t have a Carmelo-esque post skillset, he’s not rated higher. And we all know how much that matter.

That comparison is totally stupid. He plays like Barkley, full stop.

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

    The Knicks are terrible.

The best active two-way player may actually be Dotson and he’d be relatively deep on the bench of a really good team. #ThanksPhil

    20 points
    8/14 FGs
    3/8 Threes
    1/2 FTs
    10 rebounds
    2 assists

Frank was less horrible on offense (that’s not a compliment).

We have 2-6 potentially very good players on the team if you include Knox, Robinson, and Trier as unknowns because it’s too soon to tell and Frank as a project on offense. Other than that, it’s KP, Dotson, and Frank. Can we get Willy back?

Stratomatic "Porzingis, Ntilikina, Knox & Robinson are going to lead us to the promised landsays:

The Rockets pretty much suck without Chris Paul now that they lost some of their best defenders also.

Th Bucks are a player or two away from being very serious. They are already good though.

The 76ers took a step back without the vets they lost that spaced the floor for Simmons and Embiid and helped the bench.

Frank’s ineptitude with the ball in his second season is not encouraging. It’s not just that he’s not productive, he also just looks completely clueless on offense, like he’d rather be doing anything else in the world than handling a basketball.

I don’t know about that guy. Great pick and roll defender, doesn’t do much else.

At least Frank now has a higher TS% than Burke!

    It’s looking ugly.

    Wake me up in 2025.

Well I’m glad I stayed until the end and at least saw that Frank-Mitch-Rob-Lob.

At the end of the day, this team is very bad and this season will not be easy to bear.

This is obvious, but Dotson needs all the minutes he can handle going forward. Had plenty of Heat fans asking me “who’s number 21?”
