Well, Moussa was not meant to be. Would have been a nice addition I guess.
I legit don’t get why they did it. I mean, no harm/no foul, I guess, but this is the NBA, you know what kinds of offers have a chance, and which ones don’t, and they had to know this one wasn’t going to work.
Now the Mavericks can’t even trade him to the Knicks this season.
The Knicks appear to be having a lot of fun. Well deserved.

Not a capologist but I don’t quite understand this move either.
My wife and I were going to watch The Devil Wears Prada 2 last night but it was 25 dollars to rent but free on Disney in two weeks.
So we watched the Giannis doc instead obviously. Not amazing but definitely some very heartwarming moments. Hadn’t realized all the stuff that happened during the title run year, including the death of his father, the knee hyper extension, and going down 0-2 in the Finals.
I guess one possibility is at the Mavs cut him when his contract becomes non-guaranteed or even before.
But as I said yesterday, I don’t think he’s ready to help a contender yet. He’s very raw and it looked to me on film like he had very suspect hands and lack of NBA-level coordination.
I still don’t get why they didn’t make a qualifying offer to Huk.
I saw somewhere on Twitter that Cisse has the same agent as Dadiet. Maybe Leon returned a favor and raised his salary by a bit.
Cissé OAAKAAK*
*Once almost a Knick, Almost always a Knick 😀
lol cyber! Enjoy the cup final today!
the best explanation i guess is ‘why not.’ but the space in which this particular offer sheet worked seems absurdly tiny: the mavs do want cisse on a two-way but have zero interest in him in a roster spot. and even then, the offer sheet was so incredibly team-friendly the mavs were incentivized to consider signing it anyway. they are only risking ~$1.1 million to think about it for a couple months.
sure they technically have 15 guys but some of those guys are very expendable. sasser could be cut or traded for a weak second, klay could be bought out. gafford might get traded for someone they can cut, etc. and if they keep him it’s an ideal risk free deal as his 27-28 is nonguaranteed plus he remains rfa at the end. the vet min cap hit this year means nothing to them. it almost looks like a favor to get him a guaranteed million.
I did not like the odyssey. Turning Odysseus into a bore with PTSD was a weird choice.
That means we still value Dadiet?? We give too much time to french prospects, it must be because of the Statue of Liberty…
Unless this supposed pursuit of Moussa was actually a misdirect while Leon works out the details of signing LeBron. 🙂
Well, that was fun while it didn’t last.
If they knew they were going to lose Mitch (they almost had to), IMO it was bad idea to let Huk go also. Then you have to replace 2 Cs in a market where other teams are looking for Cs. Unless you have something better lined up (apparently they don’t), you keep Huk. I’ve been saying that since before they lost Mitch. They may still make a bigger trade later or at the deadline, but I’m not thrilled with the way they are handling the C position.
I am legitimately devastated to learn this morning that I could have taken my son to see a Knicks-centric Saturday Night Main Event at MSG last night.
What’s the point of all these tech companies violating my privacy if not to send me a targeted ad about such a thing ahead of time?
Maybe Leon should check in on Ben Simmons…
I was only half kidding…
Being something like a 3rd string C would be a great role for him. At least the fanbase wouldn’t be alarmed by Hack-a-Ben.
We are 3.3M below the 2nd apron, Huk will make 3.4M on the Sixers. Maybe Clarkson wasn’t needed, but Huk doesn’t strike me as that he’ll be useful by the time we’ll need the players to shine – the playoffs. They probably think it’ll be easier to find a good backup C during the season and valued more a player that can play in the playoffs – Clarkson – over one that it’s not likely that he’ll be able to do it.
We just have to be patient. I’ll understand all the criticism, but only if after the trade deadline Leon still hasn’t solve the backup C spot. If he solves it until then, all will be good, our time is the playoffs, not the regular season.
“We are 3.3M below the 2nd apron, Huk will make 3.4M on the Sixers.”
Yeah, but there are ways they could have corrected for that. In any case, by offering him the QO, if the Sixers made the same offer then they could have just chosen to not match.
I think they figured that they didn’t want a 3rd stringer on anything but a minimum deal or just above it. But I continue to believe that Huk is gonna develop into a decent backup in Philly (not a strong belief, though!)
Huk got signed for $130,000 more than we could spend. They wouldn’t have been able to match anyway.
So now we have 2 lovely choices left:
1. Moses Brown
2. Duop Reath
If Huk accepted the QO, he could have also vetoed trades.
It’s amazing how much flexibility teams gain when stay under the second apron, isn’t it?
If Huk was given the qualifying offer, and then signed an offer sheet that Leon couldn’t match, how would the team be any worse off than they are now? You’d have money tied up for a couple of days. That’s all I can think of. As to not being able to trade him, why would that be a terrible thing?
“It’s amazing how much flexibility teams gain when stay under the second apron, isn’t it?”
More disingenuous BS. Not a single poster (or Dolan himself) said that staying under the second apron would increase flexibility this year. I don’t get why you keep repeating this nonsense, other than to be a pompous, condescending troll.
lol I’m quoting you, dude. You’re the poster who said it.

And I clearly was talking about in the longer term. Are you really just too dumb to understand that? Or just being an asshole? Never mind, the answer is clear for everyone to see.
This time last year last year, Cisse was an undrafted no-name who parlayed a promising Summer League into a 2-way with Dallas, a few impressive regular season stat lines (including MLK Day against NYK), an offer sheet from Leon Rose, and, finally, a guaranteed regular contract and roster spot with the 26-27 Mavs.
That’s not a common NBA career arc but it’s hardly a one-off, either. Every year there seems to be a sprinkling of unheralded SL hopefuls who find their way onto NBA rosters and manage to become productive players over time. More than likely there’s another one in the mix this year – maybe even a center who’s roughly equivalent in ability to a Moussa Cisse. Or, Ariel Hukporti.
It was all I could do to watch four Summer Knicks games and that was my absolute limit for SL viewing. So I can’t claim to have any insight into the promising no-names around the league who might be ready to make the leap. I do recall that in the lead up to the NYK-Mavs tilt, the announcers spent a few minutes talking up Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu as a big who’s flashed for Dallas in SL this year. Don’t know Thing One about him but with Cisse now taking up one end of the roster spot in Dallas, someone like Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu might be harder for them to keep.
And were he to somehow wind up on the Knicks, an added bonus would be the entertainment value of listening to the million and one ways in which Clyde would mangle his name!
Sure you were, buddy.
Mr. Mezzanine has spoken.
Dudes, get a room, seriously. Lovely quiet Sunday morning here, reading your pillow quarrels is nauseating and polluting.
Raven, respectfully, please don’t say guys when clearly one person took it upon himself to instigate things. Stupidly so, I might add.
Cmon, Z-Man, don’t play the virgin angel here. Hubert fired off a snarky comment into the ether (first ever snarky comment on this site, by the way), you replied calling him out as a little bitch.
I’ve been in a few altercations without any provocation (part of a mis-spent youth in toothless dive bars), but most involved my doing something stupid to escalate things. I’ve tried to teach Little Raven to walk away, a very useful skill for a teenager or a retired educator.
Believe me, Raven, Ppl of Hubert‘s stature who talk shit in those kind of bars don’t last very long.
Dort going to Hawks in 3 team deal
I think my favorite story of same was when I was sitting at the bar fairly well into my cups when a very large man muscled up to the bar for a drink, looked down at me, and said, “I don’t like you. I’m gonna fuck you up.” I immediately, inexplicably, and brightly said, “Okay!”, after which he became so befuddled he wandered off.
Dort
KAT hit two of the more impressive chokeslams I’ve ever seen at the WWE show last night. That’s what a 9’1 standing reach looks like. Also it’s what a legit seven footer looks like in a wrestling ring — a lot of wrestlers billed at 7 ft., like the Undertaker and Kane, are actually around 6’8 or so.
Wait, does that mean that there are now ZERO teams over the 2nd apron?
Well, I guess we still are waiting on the Cavs…
Dallas with three #1 picks on one team now!
Sneaky good trade for the Hawks. Kinda meh for Dallas.
Guess the 2nd apron is SUICIDE after all.
Apparently Dallas explored a Daniel Gafford-for-Risacher swap last season, so they must see something in Risacher they really like.
last off season thought it was weird for us to go after a bunch of coaches who most likely weren’t going to come coach here…
felt like we were intentionally just messing with other clubs…
hopefully we keep doing more of this cisse stuff…
next target please…
Love that story, Raven. I sure wouldn’t tangle with someone who does what you do for a living.
Dort is nice but seems a little duplicative for them. I guess they’re trying to put their own WingStop together. Could work.
under the second apron but also saving ~$90 million in one year
NBA.com has this headline, “Watch Live: Nike EYBL Peach Jam”
Which I absolutely read as “Nike Eye Bleach Jam.”
What does Raven do for money? Jujutsu teacher?
So now Dallas has no backup point guard. Kolek for Cisse would’ve made a lot of sense but alas…
It does seem like some real cap jujitsu from OKC
They apparently care about the second apron I should note
Not a wrestling guy but KAT did look legit in those clips
As an addendum to my previous post, I should clarify that I was not personally advocating for the Knicks to target KAE (don’t wanna type that whole name out again or even copypasta it) I really don’t know squat about him or any of the other young, unknown SL centers out there who might be worth taking a cheap flyer on.
I was simply trying to remind folks that the first domino hasn’t even fallen yet. The available options to the Knicks are not always going to be Moses Brown, Liam Robbins, and Trey Jemison. At some point, teams facing roster crunches will be forced to part with no young no name prospects who (hopefully) have roughly similar floors and higher ceilings than that.
I mentioned KAE as one possible example, mainly because I heard someone say his name on a broadcast the other day. That said, I don’t think it totally crazy to speculate that Leon saw a potential roster crunch at center in Dallas and used the Cisse offer to force their hand a bit. Perhaps KAE is one of the Mavs surplus bigs that the Knicks are keeping an eye on.
“What does Raven do for money? Jujutsu teacher?”
Nature Boy.
Doogie, read a few posts up

“Not a wrestling guy but KAT did look legit in those clips”
The pros can make anyone look legit, especially a big 7-footer.
https://www.facebook.com/nbaonprime/videos/knicks-new-addition-andre-drummond-meeting-with-mike-brown-at-the-nba-summer-lea/4604748069766197/
Is it me or does Drummond look much leaner in this video. Guy plays with a tshirt to hide his fat but in Vegas he’s sporting a tanktop? – Rim protection has to improve a little…it definitively can’t get any worse.
One thing l’affaire de Cisse definitely does not scream to me is “we were totally prepared to lose Mitchell Robinson for nothing and have a well thought out plan to replace him.”
Seems to me that they actually did replace Mitch with Drummond. Whether that qualifies as well-thought-out or not, he was one of the best options available for under the second apron pricing.
Weird offseason for the Hawks.
They went into our playoff series with excellent wings to throw at Brunson and no bigs to throw at KAT.
KAT spent the whole series passing over their heads.
And they responded by getting smaller?
The draft strategy just seems so odd in hindsight. Some of these long shot developmental bigs that were on the board for us don’t seem all that different from guys like Cisse and Hukporti in terms of floor/ceiling.
Where have you gone, Moussa Cisse?
Knicks nation turns its lonely eyes to you
Boo hoo hoo!
What’s that you say, Mitchell Robinson?
Another big has left and gone away,
Ha, ha, hey!
Seems not optimal to select a 19 year old guy at #1 overall and then trade him for Lu Dort after two seasons. That was a weak draft and Risarcher does not look like a world beater but last year was his age 20 season! He wasn’t embarrassingly bad for a 20 year old either.
I get not making a pick in the first round for the obvious reasons. Don’t get taking two non-bigs in the 2nd.
FWIW, here are the centers taken in the 2nd round after Kayil was picked (I’m assuming that taking anyone in the slots prior to that was off limits due to salary concerns)
Maliq Brown (listed as center but only 6’8)
Felix Okpara
Henri Veesaar
Ugonna Onyenso (OAKAAK!)
Narcisse Ngoy
My complete ignorance of college ball precludes me from any informed opinions on whether selecting any of those dudes would have been a better use of the 2nd rounders than the players who were selected. I suspect, however, that Nickel’s one demonstrable skill will probably get him more playing time than any of the names on that list, which should make him more valuable to a win now team. But what do I know?
If Nickel keeps shooting like he did in summer league, he might become a good trade throw-in. And if he learns how to move and defend like an NBA player, maybe he can replace Landry in a couple of years.
Hawks were missing Jock Landale for the playoffs. He played about 20 minutes a game for them after the trade at the deadline. Goga B took him out on April 1 with a dirty takedown resulting in a high ankle sprain.
The morning of the free agency kickoff, James Edwards mentioned Landale as a C the Knicks might pick up for the vet minimum. ATL immediately re-signed him for $14 million for one year.
so, spain should win this one, right?
except argentina just stays annoyingly persistent in wanting to win…
lol they just showed Wemby on the screen and the ~200 people watching this game with me booed him loudly
was thinking during the first half how great the pitch looked there in jersey…
we’ll see what it looks like after this halftime thing…
I’m gonna sound like the “I’m my day” guy, but what a contrast between watching Joe Jackson kill it at the Beacon last night and then today a halftime show featuring 90 year old plasticized Madonna and Justin Bieber
So the American football championship game featured an all Spanish language halftime show whereas the corresponding show at the final World Cup football match between two Spanish speaking countries is performed entirely in English.
What a woild!
sis recently got to catch a joe jackson show, smaller venue, says he still sounds great…
that is definitely a show I’d like to sit in some small old theater to enjoy…
@YossiGozlan
looks like chris martin (coldplay) helped put the show together…I liked it…nice family friendly vibe…
hopefully they didn’t mess up the field…
in that case, reference mitch: well, bye…
Madonna had a Weekend At Bernie’s kind of vibe going on out there
I set up a printer at halftime because I knew it would suck
Spain is dominating but they need to stop playing with their food
I might set up a printer instead of watching the rest of this match
feels like it it’s about to get wild out there…
lots of physical play, hopefully the match doesn’t end up getting decided by a penalty kick…
There’s more Yankee baseball on today too.
My only regret is I have but one printer to set up
seems like argentina is getting pressed continously, all game…and yet, they are right there still…
pretty sure they’re gonna win…
I don’t think 130k was enough to get Huk to leave given he just made some extra money in the NBA Cup and NBA Finals and would be more likely to win again in NY. He seemed very happy here. I guess it’s possible the 76ers offered him a bigger role, but he would have had a bigger role here once Mitch was gone.
The whole thing smells like the Knicks either still have something on the drawing board that didn’t pan out (at least yet) or they screwed up the C position.
I’m not pretty sure they’re ever gonna get the ball
well that should do it right there…dumbass…
Argentina is a bunch of dirty mfers. Hope they lose.
emeliano martinez is on fire right now…
none shall pass…let’s see how much longer that lasts…
Argentina, other than Messi, has just been pure shithousery for decades and I hope they lose
This has been more one-sided than the Knicks close-out game vs. ATL and it’s 0-0.
Oh, never mind. At least the dominant team is winning.
Justice is served……………
We weren’t going to actually pay him $130K less. That’s just how much we could have paid him without going into the 2nd apron.
And banking on winning either the Midseason tournament or Finals is a bad bet.
My kingdom for a backup C!
Justice was served.
Although shoutout to Messi for being a class act throughout his entire career. Guy is, all things considered, very possibly the GOAT of GOATS.
That printer I set up has been christened Ferran.
Trump having to present the trophy to a country he hates was kinda nice.
Not a football die hard here but when it comes to World Cups I’m a fan of Argentina since 86 and i ve watched so many great players playing for this team that i wasn’t impressed by this current squad.
Thankfully Messi who is probably the GOAT was playing incredibly but the rest were scrubs and bums…
End of an Era
