If OG Anunoby had been on Gilligan’s Island they would have gotten the fuck off of Gilligan’s Island.

That is really good. I want to say something like that when I grow up.

    Rooting hard for Spain today….

    2

Random thought: Something really bugged me about seeing Wemby angrily exhorting his teammates on in the huddle during a timeout. This happened more than once during the playoffs. I get that he’s trying to show leadership, but he seemed way over the top, especially considering that he’s 22 and yelling at guys 10 years older than him. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a fight between him and a teammate at some point.

Everyone talks about guys like Wemby and Giannis as freaks of nature, but OG is just as freaky as any of them. I remember when we acquired him, Macri kept referring to him as the “skeleton key.” I had high hopes for him, but never in my wildest dreams imagined that he would become THIS impactful.

During these playoffs, the four guys on the team that significantly exceeded even the high end of my “realistic” expectations when we acquired them are OG, Brunson, KAT, and Landry. Everyone else did kind of what I expected. But OG was in a class by himself.

btw did you guys know LeBron James has been in NYC all week? He showed up at the Jay-Z concert, the ESPYs, fanatics fest, and is going to the World Cup final.

I’m beginning to think it’s a little weird that we haven’t heard anything about him to the Knicks. Like, why would he seriously consider the sixers but not the knicks? And why wouldn’t James Dolan want his team’s value to increase by an extra billion dollars?

Either the two sides never talked or they’re planning a giant surprise, and the former would just be silly.

I’m not mad at the Dadiet pick, since that contract allowed us to make the KAT trade, which led to a championship, etc. It nonetheless bums me out that he hasn’t developed enough to be useful. If his contract can help us get a better player at midseason, then sure. But oh well.

It’s telling that LeBron is choosing to hang in a minor city for these routine events during the offseason. Must mean he’s coming here. Are they selling jerseys yet?

I feel the same way. He still won’t be old enough to legally buy a beer in NY until next week, so maybe he makes a leap some day, but probably not on his rookie deal.

Since nobody noticed my Star Wars quote earlier, I’ll just say that Liam does not have a very particular set of skills, skills he has acquired over a very long career. So probably not worth further discussion.

    To Liam… GOOD LUCK! 😀

neat dude from lisbon in this season too cyber 😊

Thanks Geo, my mother and my “middle” sister (i have 3) are always talking about one of the survival shows. Sorry, i don’t know which one, but i’ll let them know that this season they have a fellow countryman trying… not to die? 😀

    1

Hey Z-man, how’s things going? Rocking Knicks gear* 24/7 ?? LOL!

    *just not #23 !!! 😛
    (what have i done? 🤭)

Maybe LeBron was just waiting for #23 to become available…

    That’s the spirit, Z-Man!

    1

since that contract allowed us to make the KAT trade

Not really. We could have traded out of the first round and still made the KAT trade.

I want to believe in Dadiet. I like the idea of him. And he’s still two years younger than Tyler Nickel. If he sticks around it’ll be bc he’s showed them something in practice all these years, bc man he’s showed nothing on any of the courts we’ve seen him play.

Maybe LeBron was just waiting for #23 to become available…

That might be the reason Leon had to let Mitch walk… 😀

But to be honest, i was really sad Mitch chose the Celtics. I bet he had more teams trying to get him… hell, even the Lakers would be better! Sorry CDiggy!

    1

I have to say my faith in Dadiet is as high as my faith when Mitch went to the line in the playoffs!

Mitch going to the Celtics is like your beloved hottie leaving you for your ugly hated neighbor. It’s made worse that you have to see them together all the time.

    1

it’s exactly like that except you told her she could only stay if she slept in the basement and stopped using the wifi

Not the Wi-Fi !!! Now i gotta go with the ugly neighbor !! 😀

Yeah, but she was only good for 15 minutes every other night and suffered from chronic migraines.

    1

    Right right tmw….

Spain is such a good team. The only superstar they have has been extremely quiet but their OG, Rodri, has been absurdly good.

i was really sad Mitch chose the Celtics. I bet he had more teams trying to get him

I think after the Lakers chose Kessler and the Hawks inexplicably donated their full MLE to Jock Landale, the Celtics were probably the highest bidder by far. Can you think of another team who had access to the full MLE and needed a center?

LeBron *must* be coming to New York! I mean, what’s a bigger stage than Los Angeles?!? (Oh, wait. Maybe he’s going to Chicago.)

Speaking of which, seeing Second City at the Birchmere tonight.

Yeah, Owen, I expect them to control the match and just choke the life out of Argentina. Maybe Messi does something magical to make it interesting but it seems like a mismatch.

It’s hard to bet against Messi, he finds a way, but Spain looks doninant yeah.

Flipping channels last night, and NBA TV was showing game 4 of the Finals. And I couldn’t help myself, watched the 4th quarter for probably the tenth time.

There were so many moments in that quarter where you thought “oh well, at least they’re not getting blown out at home” And the 15 point third quarter deficit actually ballooned to 20 a few minutes into the 4th!

And beyond all the Knicks heroics, the Spurs completely melted down, Fox in particular. That contract ain’t gonna age well.

    1

If my Sicilian wife reads this, I’m getting punched in the nuts

    LOL!

Tell her i said “hi” 😉

God only knows why I watched that game last night from start to finish. Especially after a day of reading through all those recommendations on here of quality television shows. The Summer Knicks finale was the antithesis of Must See TV.

That said, a few random thoughts:

    – My expectations for Dadiet going into SL were somewhere well south of modest but, my lord, he even failed to live up to those. His age no longer cuts it as an excuse for me after watching him get consistently outplayed by others equally young who did not have the benefit of Pac’s NBA experience. I saw no growth in his game at all; most distressingly, in the one skill that was supposed to be his calling card – the 3 pt shot.

    – Weird that Kayil was yanked after a pretty productive 10 mins (0-2 FGs, 1 reb, 3 assts, 2 stocks) and never seen again. Maybe he had to rush out to catch a flight back to Germany?

    – Who the heck is Langston Wilson? Can’t recall having seen him in any of the other SL games before his brief stint last night. He certainly flashed, making the most of his 10 mins (9 pts on 4-4 shooting – including a monster dunk, 5 rebs) and played with good energy on D. Oh yeah, he’s listed as 6’ 10. Seems to me he’s no less worthy of getting a camp invite than Liam.

I think after the Lakers chose Kessler and the Hawks inexplicably donated their full MLE to Jock Landale, the Celtics were probably the highest bidder by far. Can you think of another team who had access to the full MLE and needed a center?

Don’t know, but i think the Lakers are going to regret it.

It’s hard to bet against Messi, he finds a way, but Spain looks dominant yeah.

If Spain wins, i’m choosing to believe Portugal was the 2nd best team!! LOLOL

LeBron *must* be coming to New York! I mean, what’s a bigger stage than Los Angeles?!? (Oh, wait. Maybe he’s going to Chicago.)

All I’m saying today is… the fact that we’re not hearing anything about the Knicks as a contender might mean it’s being intentionally withheld for reasons.

It makes too much sense for all parties involved (particularly LeBron James and James Dolan) for it to not even be on the table.

Don’t know, but i think the Lakers are going to regret it.

Kessler is pretty good and exactly what the Lakers need.

I mean, how good is Kessler? I was a big fan at draft time and still am, but $33M AAV plus the assets given up to acquire him? Seems like Mitch at half the price and no assets would be the safer bet,

LeBron is no longer the Lakers GM. Reports are that the team’s new GM, Luka, “pushed hard” for a Kessler deal.

Hopefully, this works out for the Purple & Gold as well as LeBron’s signing of Westbrook once did!

    1

So I went to look up Kessler’s free throw rate (70% last year, although only a bit over 50% for his career) and came across a Yahoo article describing the trade as the worst one of the off season. Writers gotta clickbait, but just thought I’d share that…

The Lakers are kinda like us two years ago. Kessler is their Mikal Bridges trade, and Austin Reaves is their OG Anunoby contract. We still had enough left over to get KAT, though. They strike me as fucked.

    1

Nah LeBron is going to Miami. Then he can take over the Wade role (wise elder) while Giannis plays the LeBron role (top nba player). And he hates that the Knicks finally succeeded on his watch, so he’ll try to set things straight by clowning us one final time.

If Spain wins, i’m choosing to believe Portugal was the 2nd best team!! LOLOL

Cape Verde already got that locked up

    1

Nah LeBron is going to Miami.

I think Miami makes the second most sense. If he’s not coming here, he’s going there.

Again, I just think it’s suspicious that we’re not even being talked about.

James Dolan hired Leon to bring him stars. He’s still resentful about Donnie Walsh in the wheelchair. Does it really make sense that he’d sit this out?

    1

Does it really make sense that he’d sit this out?

To answer my own question… it might not make sense, but it’s logical if Dolan is now full of foolish pride, which he seems to be after issuing the second apron edict.

Pride (from both parties) is probably the one thing keeping this from happening. Greed would have to be stronger.

I think it’s either Philly or Cleveland. Miami would not have nearly enough shooting, at least that’s how it looks to me.

I’d put the odds of LeBron coming to the Knicks at about 0.0000001%. But hey, one in ten million shots hit all the time!

My attitude toward Lebron is that I am deeply disgusted by and deeply resent his being such an attention slut. The only thing I want to read about him is if he decides to fund some of my work, and just barely that (yes, I am something of a slut as well).

He can go to Team Hell for all I care. Just stop demanding headlines, you diva whore.

You’re right, Z-Man, the fit in Miami isn’t perfect. That’s why I think we make more sense (that and $$$$). But Giannis and Bam are great players. And I think he trusts Riley and Spo enough to figure it out.

The 76ers are a clown show. I’d be genuinely shocked if he was willing to trust Nick Nurse and Joel Embiid with the final chapter of his legacy.

And Cleveland’s just a very boring story. He’d probably have to get the coach fired there, too.

To each their own, Raven. And your opinion is valid.

But my question is why aren’t the Knicks reportedly interested? I don’t think it’s because they think LeBron’s a whore.

I’ve come up with two possible answers: a) foolish pride, or b) they actually are interested and it’s being intentionally kept quiet.

    Could go either way.

Ultimately there are no better answers for him than New York. I agree that Miami is probably the best option in terms of winning a championship and overall culture with Riley and Spo, but they would have to bludgeon teams by attacking the rim and boards. Miami is also a shitty basketball town…not that it mattered much when the Heatles were a thing.

The Knicks would be a fantastic spot for him for sure. Ticket prices would be astronomical, media coverage would be insane, and he could have a suitable role for his age. He and Brown have a relationship.

But the utter lack of smoke is pretty telling. He’s not coming here.

Hubert, by foolish pride are you entirely basing that in terms of the statement about the second apron? Cuz there are a few other ways to imagine it… (for example, we don’t need no attention-demanding aged-out diva whore to win a second chip…).

    1

I like the fit in Philly because LeBron would take tons of pressure off of Embiid’s knees. Now that they have a volume scorer in Brown and two lightning bolts on the perimeter in Maxey and Edgecombe, LeBron can just facilitate. Their bench is only so-so, and that might be a dealbreaker, along with the things Hubert pointed out.

But the utter lack of smoke is pretty telling

    You’re right. But…

what if it’s telling us that they’re concealing the smoke?

There’s smoke in so many places. The lack of any smoke here almost seems conspicuous.

There’s this whole myth about Leon being a ninja, right? I haven’t bought into it personally, but according to the myth, if Leon were pursuing LeBron, there would be no sign of smoke.

Unless LeBron thinks coming to NY substantially tilts the field in the Knicks favor come June he’s not coming. He may be a Diva Whore but he ain’t uncanny.

by foolish pride are you entirely basing that in terms of the statement about the second apron?

I just mean the general exaggerated sense of ego that drives a person or an organization to act against their own best interest.

My underlying assumption (which you might argue) is that it’s clearly in the best interests of both LeBron and the Knicks for this marriage to happen.

We’re more useful to LeBron as a foil, as an obstacle to overcome, than we are as an ally. He comes here and we win another title, so what? He jumped on the bandwagon. We already won without him. We lose, and it’s somehow his fault.

He goes to say, Philly, and they beat us– great for him and his narrative. He doesn’t need to win a title for the year to be a success, just needs to eliminate the Knicks. If Philly loses, well, he gave it a try and they just weren’t good enough. No downside for his legacy. Just another year at the end of his career that didn’t pan out.

Coming to the Knicks is high risk/medium reward, going to Philly is low risk/high reward.

I don’t think it would be possible to hide smoke in this particular situation. But who knows?

LeBron is not really much of a two-way player anymore, and if he ends up on a team coached by Nick Nurse… seems like a guy that smart teams might be able to hunt a little bit on defense.

The Lakers were trying to hide him as much as possible against the opposing team’s weakest perimeter player. LeBron still expends a lot of energy on the offensive end and just doesn’t have the bandwidth to play lockdown defense anymore. He still gives you some defensive value because of his IQ– he makes the right plays, fills in the gaps, plays smart help defense– but at his age he can be cooked on the defensive end.

LeBron AND Embiid on the floor together? That might be genuinely problematic. If you’re closing with a lineup of Maxey/Edgecombe/LBJ/Brown/Embiid that does not seem like a championship caliber defense.

“We’re more useful to LeBron as a foil, as an obstacle to overcome, than we are as an ally. He comes here and we win another title, so what? He jumped on the bandwagon. We already won without him. We lose, and it’s somehow his fault.”

While I think this is valid, I doubt that LeBron would care all that much about jumping on the bandwagon if the Knicks won. Nor do I think it would be perceived that way. If they lost, it would depend how, but He’s be playing in the mecca and donning the jersey of America’s Team (weird, I know). There would be fans with LeBron Knicks jerseys in every arena in the country. There would be unprecedented media coverage.

The issue from the Knicks side is that they won this championship with chemistry as much as anything else. I can’t say for sure that LeBron would disrupt the chemistry, but that would definitely be a major consideration.

To me, the single most important “controllable” that Leon accomplished here was the putting the “circus” narrative to bed. LeBron invites drama and scrutiny. I can’t imagine that Leon (or Brunson) would want that, but again, who knows?

I disagree with that assessment, JK.

No one expects us to win again. Not even us! There’s been 8 champs in 8 years. We lost Mitch. Our odds are +850.

If he comes here, we win 60+ games and repeat, no one’s going to be thick enough to think that would have happened without him. And there’s a very high probability that will happen! I think we’re low risk/high reward.

Philadelphia has zero chance to win a title and a high chance of his career ending in a four game sweep with Embiid injured while 8,000 Knicks fans laugh him off his home court. That’s high risk/low reward.

    1

Is Lebron sitting the last 2 minutes in any close playoff game because he’s being eaten alive by live leg Louie?

Is Lebron sitting the last 2 minutes in any close playoff game because he’s being eaten alive by live leg Louie?

You’re challenging my jive translator, Clarence, but I think you’re suggesting the problem with LeBron for us is he might be unbenchable to our detriment.

That’s a fair critique, probably the best I’ve heard so far.

“He still gives you some defensive value because of his IQ– he makes the right plays, fills in the gaps, plays smart help defense– but at his age he can be cooked on the defensive end.”

LeBron is probably capable of a prime Larry Bird level of defense…not great over the course of a game but situationally amazing.

I actually worry more about his offense. The loss of athleticism impacts him way more than it would a guy like, say, Durant. He’s not getting the separation, the lift on his reverses, his midrange fades, etc.

“Live leg louie” can refer to several different subjects depending on your interest. It most likely refers to leg day gym content by creator Louie Castro, live powerlifting demonstrations by Louie Simmons, or the viral story of a toddler named Louie who learned to walk after double leg amputations.

Pretty sure that LeBron wouldn’t get eaten alive by gym content, exercise demos (not being performed by him), or toddlers. If we signed him and he *was* eaten alive by any of these, we’d have bigger problems.

Anyway, I’m going to see the odyssey now.

I didn’t mean to turn this into another pros & cons of LeBron.

I just wanted to point out that he has been in NY all week and I think it’s weird that there’s been no smoke about him to the Knicks.

Show me that ninja shit, Leon.

The Knicks have signed RFA Moussa Cisse to an offer sheet!

    2-year contract per Jake Fischer.

    2

Apparently Knicks signed Mousse Cisse to 2-year contract. Mavs have until Monday to match

    2

Shams Charania of ESPN, who confirms the news, hears Cisse’s salary for next season is 50% guaranteed, while his deal for ’27/28 is non-guaranteed (Twitter link).

That seems like the most matchable offer sheet of all time.

Wonder if they talked to the Mavs beforehand and got the green light to do it.

    1

yeah i don’t really understand this offer sheet, if the mavs didn’t want to match this you’d think they wouldn’t have extended him his qo in the first place?

I’m wondering if it’s sign-and-trade bait. Maybe Leon can talk them into Pacome and several seconds…

If it sticks, seems like an excellent upside deal. Well, unless he goes all iHart! Although that would be an amazing problem to have!

Maybe we try to entice the Mavs with a sign and trade? I see no reason they wouldn’t match ASAP.

Dallas has a roster crunch, they have 15 signed players plus three two-way contracts and they already have three signed centers plus Santi Aldama.

Nice move for NYK if this sticks, as Cisse is a legit defender. Gets lots of blocks and is athletic enough to defend the pick and roll.

    2

This has to be a planned s&t otherwise it’s just a pointless offer. Dallas could use more 2nds if they’re planning another sign and trade, as they have a lot of cap space still. Not sure what their thinking would be here.

Great catch JK, though they can still match and get down to 15 by the end of camp.

So we might force them to send Caleb Martin to Cancun and collect a cool $18M for his troubles. But I hope we get Cisse.

Is it meaningful at all that Cisse didn’t play in Summer League this year as a second-year player? As in, “we can’t risk him getting injured because we have something in the works with him”?

Also: High Schools: St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey, Christ the King in Queens, New York (same high school as Alvie)

Dallas has a roster crunch, they have 15 signed players plus three two-way contracts and they already have three signed centers plus Santi Aldama.

Yes, but they can have as many as 21 players right now. So they can easily match this if they want to. I have to believe there is some kind of sign-and-trade already agreed to.

    1

think it will take at least a season for the heat to make it past the second round – even with lebron, they are so thin…

the cavs have a james harden situation…they need to go all in on trying to acquire kyrie, not sure that’s possible though…without a better option at point guard, the cavs most likely don’t make it back to the conference finals…plus, either mobley or allen should be moved…

the warriors are up against it, just like every other team out west not named thunder or spurs…

my early guess would be us and detroit in the conference finals next season…

if lebron shows up in philly, take out detroit and put philly in there facing us for a chance to go to the finals…

Wait, we can’t get him in a sign-and-trade because we’re over the first apron. So yeah, we’re hoping for the best.

    3

The Mavs have Lively, Gafford, Aldama, and Morez Johnson (the #9 overall pick in this year’s draft) on their roster listed as centers. Hard to see where Cisse is going to get a lot of minutes.

I have to wonder if Dallas will match just because of residual bad blood of the Brunson maneuver.

    1

It’s also possible they just don’t want him and told Leon he could go ahead and sign him.

Are there “loophole” sign and trades where they don’t match, but then in a “separate” deal we agree to send them Deuce and/or draft picks for Caleb Martin? (We’d then have to waive Martin, right?) Or is that so blatantly skirting the rules that it would not be allowed?

Maybe the League Office told them they cannot match as amends for that shitty tanking maneuver they did to keep our draft pick away from us a couple of years ago? (I might actually believe that, but no one is feeling sorry for the Knicks right about now.)

I suppose we’re daring Masai to be a dick. Matching is clearly optimal for the Mavs, but we have a much better opportunity for Cisse.

Is there anyone on Dallas’ roster that they clearly don’t want? The closest I see is Sasser.

Caleb Martin sucks, but he’s owed over $19M over the next two seasons. So waiving him would hurt but it’s a sunk cost.

I dunno, is matching “optimal” for the Mavs? He’s clearly not worth more to them than the minimum and they would have to free up a roster spot to keep a 4th string C getting paid more than the minimum. They would also be restricted from trading him (is it a full year?)

I wonder if the inability for the Knicks to sign-and-trade for him actually increases the chances that they just let him go.

This sounds like a Brock Aller special…

It looks like an easy contract for the Mavs to match, but maybe it’s about targeting their roster crunch rather than their money. They have 16/17 roster spots filled and they haven’t signed one of their 2nd round picks (Vsvelod Ishchenko at #56) yet. I think they want to sign Ischenko to a two-way deal, given that they signed their other 2nd rounder (Tobi Lawal, #48) to a two-way deal already. They might be valuing Ischenko on a two-way over Cisse on a regular deal. And also, Ishchenko is Masai’s guy and Cisse isn’t.

We signed Cisse to a regular contract where the 1st year is “half-guaranteed” (50% guaranteed?) and the 2nd year is non-guaranteed. It sounds trivial for Dallas to match, money-wise, but I think there’s a decent chance they want a two-way contract in their 17th slot instead.

As Z-man said Dallas also has a logjam at the 5: Lively + Gafford, then Aldama and Johnson are PF/Cs. They let Marvin Bagley and Dwight Powell walk and then replaced them with Morez Johnson in the draft and Santi Aldama via trade, both of whom are PF/C types. Which does not strike me as vote of confidence in Cisse. It seems like he prefers backup bigs who can score and Cisse is kind of an offensive zero.

Philadelphia has zero chance to win a title and a high chance of his career ending in a four game sweep with Embiid injured while 8,000 Knicks fans laugh him off his home court. That’s high risk/low reward.

In Philadelphia, there is a moderate chance that Joel Embiiid will fall on you, no matter which team you are playing.

    That’s super high risk/low reward.

    1

“In their position I would definitely rather have a 23 year-old center with a little upside than what remains of Caleb Martin, and maybe Sasser too. So I still think we’re daring Masai to tarnish his relationship with Cisse and/or his agent.”

I don’t think these things are mutually exclusive. They could let Cisse walk AND move/waive one or both of Sasser and Martin.

Generally speaking, new POBO/GMs like to make moves. Matching Cicce makes him a piece they can’t move for a year. Assuming that the contract isn’t fully guaranteed for this year, they can waive him I guess, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of matching in the first place.

The best argument for matching is that Lively is coming off of a serious injury, Gafford is not very good in the first place, and neither Aldama nor Johndon are pure C’s. They might think of him as sort of between 2nd and 3rd string.

I saw a Dallas fan make the salient point that Gafford and Lively are injury prone, and that Aldama and Morez Johnson are both more like 4’s who can play some 5, not true centers. So maybe Cisse would actually get some minutes there.

Should i go watch a ton of Cisse’s videos, or it’s best to wait for monday? 😀

    1

Doogie, I like your idea of a separate deal, in lieu of matching. Obviously, it’s blatant salary cap circumvention, but if the terms were reasonably fair, maybe it would fly. I think we need PT to weigh in on this one.

I should correct myself and say I like the idea in general, but not the specific terms you propose. I wouldn’t want to lose Deuce unless it’s for a better option.

The reasons we can’t trade for Martin are unrelated to Cisse. We’re over the first apron so we can’t take in more money than we send out, and we can’t trade anyone newly signed until December. So the only legal trade on our end involves sending out Hart, which Dallas can’t do because they don’t have cap space.

I just watched some tape on Cisse. I hope that Dallas doesn’t match. He’s precisely what we need at C3 – a cheap, young, NBA-ready, rim protecting option. One thing in the Knicks favor is that Dallas has 15 players under contract.

BTW, rooting VERY HARD for Argentina tomorrow.

    1

Okay, side story where I can make fun of myself, a favorite hobby. Reading ESPN and there’s a story about an Aussie coach calling out Angel Reese and getting in trouble for it. But the article said he said something “that sounded like protected species.” I’m like, what the HELL sounds like protected species? Closest I could come was protracted pee-pees.

Turns out it was actually protected species, apparently a term down under for people who get favorable whistles.

Drafting Morez, trading for Aldana after paying Gafford could leave Derrick Lively as a Nico guy they don’t want to hand the bag to.

I thought offering Deuce, Dadier + the 1st roudn pick we just incinerated last month for Derrick Lively would have been a fair trade for both teams.

Taking Cisse for free is a great low risk alternative.

Cisse will get playing time all season and in playoffs so MSG stage and showcase will get him paid similar to iHart. Great opportuinity for the kid.

I don’t think Cisse is NBA ready. In fact, I think Huk is significantly better. Cisse seems like his floor is a poor man’s Adem Bona who can’t shoot FTs . If you do look at his highlights, I would sort of ignore that Chicago game on April 12. That was the epitome of a who cares game. And even in that game, he had some lucky bounces.

I still hope that Dallas doesn’t match, but I have zero hope that he will ever be better than Drummond, at least for next year.

I think that the hope of finding a 2nd string center as good as Mitch is something we all have to just get over. I know that it’s difficult, but Drummond is as good a choice as there was. And thinking about Cisse overtaking Drummond for that role is insanity. It was just as insane to think that Hukporti would be better than Mitch or Drummond. We just have to come to grips with that.

It’s tough to look at Cisse’s NBA stats to understand what he can do. He was a garbage time insert. The fact that he is a bonafide rim protector and has some pro experience is a good place to start.

But in the G-League he averaged 27.8 min, 14.7 pts, 13.1 reb, 2.1 blk, 63.6 FG%, 50.8 FT%, 1.5/1.5 ast/tov. That looks promising and the kind of player that can be developed.

Cisse and Hukporti are pretty similar I’d say. Same age, Huk had the slightly higher BPM but Cisse had better rebounding and block numbers, and also had a better turnover rate than Huk despite higher usage. Huk made his free throws last year while Cisse is, uh, Mitch-esque in that department. They both played around 500 minutes.

Is it meaningful at all that Cisse didn’t play in Summer League this year as a second-year player? As in, “we can’t risk him getting injured because we have something in the works with him”?

Since he is a free agent (albeit restricted) he isn’t under contract. So maybe they couldn’t play him in summer league.

I think that the hope of finding a 2nd string center as good as Mitch is something we all have to just get over.

That’s true if you are thinking in terms of this year but not if you are taking a 3-5 year perspective and think the Brunson window will be open for awhile.

That was a fun game Cyber. For a lot of Americans, like my Dad, this is how soccer should be every time.

I like the idea of Cisse

I’m asked a guy I know who covers the team why the Knicks would make such a seemingly weak offer for Cisse. He said: “ So the Knicks are paying him a bit more than Dallas would have paid on the minimum. Because he’s a 1-year vet. And they’re paying him like a 2-year vet”

So maybe that’s just enough of a headache for Masai that he decides not to match?

They [Dallas] would also be restricted from trading him

Methinks this is a much bigger sticking point for the Mavs than the miniscule dollar amount.

Per P & T, Dallas already has 16 players signed. If they match the offer sheet, that would bring the total to 17 and they’d also be locked into keeping Cisse around for this season. The Mavs would have to like him better than at least one of the already signed players that would have to be released if they choose to match. Dallas seems to have a bevy of bigs ATM so maybe the Knicks calculation here is that one of those may eventually come available if the Mavs do opt to keep Cisse.

Thanks Alan, that’s interesting. I think there’s a chance Dallas doesn’t match, but I’m not holding my breath.

I just wanted to point out that he has been in NY all week

Thanks! I learned that Jay-Z is still alive, and that the soccer thing is still going on.

    @ShamsCharania
The Dallas Mavericks have matched the New York Knicks’ two-year, $4.7 million offer sheet on restricted free agent Moussa Cisse… The 6-foot-11 center signed the Knicks sheet earlier Saturday but Dallas matches well before 48-hour Monday deadline.

Fuck! Well, at least we didn’t have to wait long.

Well I am now on the record saying that Cisse sucks and it was a bullet dodged. Feel free to bookmark!

This is what it would look like if the dipshit owner rug pulled the original plan.

Ok. They matched. Who now gets released?

It would have been nice if the Knicks had offered a little more. Then we would have him or Dallas would have a bigger new salary commitment. It may be they didn’t have salary cap room but they still could have guaranteed more of the contract.

It would have been nice if the Knicks had offered a little more.

I think this was the most money they could have offered. Maybe if they had made more of it guaranteed, or longer, or something, but Aller is really limited in the dollars he can give anybody right now.
