Shout out to Alan. Having recently binged season 5 of The Bear, I watched the TV is Good podcast ( thanks to Knicks and Giggles for reminding me about it) about The Bear and it was excellent. Personally, I like to see how my takes align with the experts. ( Alan is to TV criticism as Zach Lowe is to hoops commentary. Katheryn V is Fred Katz to Alan’s ZL). What was equally engaging and educational was the portion of the same podcast describing the contributions of director James Burrows. Learned a great deal about how he revolutionized the sitcom genre. Def will be watching more episodes as a new subscriber.

GF and I binged the last season of The Bear ourselves. Loved loved loved the show. Last 15 minutes of the last episode of the last season: a bit lazy for my tastes.
Just catching up.
I don’t think a lot of the Knicks moves were “leaked”. I think to a large extent sharp basketball people (including here) looked at the team, knew what the Knicks needed, identified the perfect players, Leon identified the same players and then slowly accumulated them.
Everyone knows we are looking for quality backup C. Leon ideally probably wants someone developed enough to contribute now, young enough to stick around as a core player longer than a year and better than Drummond. The issue is identifying someone that might be available and who/what to trade to get him.
Dead here today, so far. Maybe I should bring up Liam Robbins(on) again. If he actually agreed to change his last name to Robbinson, would we be more interested in signing him? 🙂
Since nobody noticed my Star Wars quote earlier, I’ll just say that Liam does not have a very particular set of skills, skills he has acquired over a very long career. So probably not worth further discussion.

Went to see The Odyssey last night at Regal in Sheepshead Bay in the 4DX theatre and got whiplash. Who thought it made sense to literally punch the audience in the kidneys with hydrolic dildos hidden in haptic chairs. All I wanted from the future was flying cars and sex robots.
Zero interest in that flick, and you just confirmed for me that I’ve made the correct choice there (albeit for very different reasons).

Agreed! Listening to Alan’s pod on widow’s bay was like tuning into Zach Lowe & Bill Simmons after game 4.
I love the flashback stuff, like The Suitcase episode and The Americans finale. I haven’t actually been watching many of the shows he’s talking about, though (like Vampire Lestat, House of the Dragon).
I wasn’t going to watch Little House on the Prairie but since he compared it to deadwood I’m definitely going to give it a try.
I enjoyed it Owen. I’ll leave it at that. The haptic shit is weird and fun and it spits water on you during the wrath of Poseidon and all that. Not a fan of that.
Random tv talk…
I’ve really enjoyed hate watching Cape Fear. I don’t know how to explain it. It is really bad. One of the worst shows I’ve ever seen. And I can’t look away. I get excited to see how bad it will be every week. So strange.
I just finished season 3 of the Bear. Watched the first two seasons in real time but I stalled out in season 3. I don’t know why, I just wasn’t in the mood for it. I finally busted through the season. Didn’t really like it, other than the outstanding Tina flashback ep. I spent the whole episode where Natalie was giving birth with Jamie Lee Curtis talking to you guys about the second apron. I thought the season ended well, though, and am excited for season 4. It just took a long time for the point to get into focus.
What else have I been watching? I tried Silo, which I get confused with Fallout (the show that geo put me on to), because they’re both shows about dystopian future societies living underground in the wake of a nuclear fallout that flash back and forth between present and past. Not doing anything for me.
Have you tried Pluribus, Hubert? After dragging my feet about giving it a shot, I kinda really enjoyed Season 1. Of course now I have to wait several years (exaggerating) for Season 2. Watching Widow’s Bay, and it’s OK, but not really sure why the “pundits” love it so much. It’s really just OK.

not sure if you are familiar with Derinkuyu in turkey…actually, it’s not just that one site, there are multiple sites there dated to before the common era that could house a combined figure in the tens of thousands of inhabitants…
hard to imagine at some point most of us not heading back below the surface for some reason or another…
bestest friend to geo has expanded her potential viewing catalog to now include the sci fi genre…Silo is one of her first ventures in to those type stories…
she keeps asking about plot progression…the show and books are a bit different in some aspects, so I’ll lie a bunch and say I don’t know, or just totally make shit up, just not to give away what I do know…
Silo does have a fairly satisfying conclusion to the story…
my understanding is the author will actually write some more to further the storyline…
the Fallout TV thing is following it’s own path, and even though I’ve spent soooooooooooo many hours in that “world”, there are still plenty of pleasant surprises that’ll occur for me…
I almost hesitate to mention it since you guys are all into your serious drama shit, but Rooster on HBO is a pleasant break from the endless horror of real life. University based, with all the requisite backstabbing and divorce, and yet it somehow manages to be surprisingly pleasurable and amusing. Steve Carrell in the lead, and I can’t stop thinking it’s a bit like Scrubs as the head guy is from there (McGinley, the Brian Cox character).
It’s total fluff, but if you’re looking for fluff…

That’s kinda it. It’s so ok it’s delightful, like a warm blanket. And the performances are perfect. I like being in this town.
i’m still making my way through Spider – Noir…think i have 3 episodes left…
still remember when i first started watching some of the Netflix marvel superhero stories…really like how they brought the super hero stuff down to a level that’s more relatable to every day living…superheroes weren’t just large screen spectacles…
nic cage and the whole cast are absolutely wonderful…it has a much more mature theme than most super hero stories…loving the black and white version…
and, it’s pretty consistently funny…
kind of makes me wanna see nathan fillion get his own green lantern series…good chance that would get equally weird and wonderful…
not all good though, was super duper disappointed with the new Punisher show…didn’t even finish it…it’s like how many times do we need to rehash the character’s emotional trauma…
can we please just get to the part where frank simply enjoys wiping out others in some neat and innovative fashion…maybe one of the worst written plots I’ve come across in a while…
oh yeah, almost forgot, still only watched a couple of episodes of this last season of house of dragon…
so, a bunch more to go – yay 😊
can totally see how this show may not be everyone’s cup of tea…I love it so much though…
particularly matt smith and fabian frankel’s characters…both have totally sold me on their portrayal of those key pieces to the story…
yeah I get it – the dragons look fake…feel sorry for those folks whom get locked out of that wonderful story immersion bubble…

I have. And I’m surprisingly conflicted, which seems to put me on an island because everyone loved it.
I watched it in real time, and by the middle of the season when I new episode dropped I noticed I had no problem waiting 4 or 5 days to watch it. And sometimes it felt like a chore.
When they got to Diego, though, I found myself more drawn in. That’s when I realized what my issue with the show is: Carol’s whole point is she wants to be left alone, and that actually made me want to leave her alone!
So it’s not that I don’t like the show, they just did such a good job making me empathetic to Carol that it actually made me slightly uncomfortable to tune in.
and for those who know…
years and years ago enjoyed watching survivor and all the other survival tv shows…
then, a long period where nothing really interested me in that genre…
a while back though really fell in live with the show Alone…
enjoying this latest season a bunch…no doubt my favorite form of “reality tv”…
nothing like watching others suffer while chilling in the house happily eating and drinking whatever you want…

I heard it’s very good other than casting a guy with Scandinavian heritage as Odysseus. And obviously it’s a little ridiculous that everyone doesn’t have a British accent.
I am excited to see it.
It’s also kind of bonkers that some guy wrote these two stories (obviously there will always be questions about Homer.) still, talk about GOAT shit.

Just not my particular cup o’ tea, but I guess I understand the appeal. My GF wants me to take her to go see it, but since I just sat through Devil Wears Prada 2 (Anne Hathaway is a Knicks fan, and doesn’t seem to age) for her, I kind of have an out for the short-term future. I just went to that one for the popcorn and the nap. I enjoy watching Knicks games with her much, much more.

thought about this for a while…you know doogie, i think that may kind of be part of the whole point of that show/genre(s)…
this season is a world championship format located way up north in canada…
was this one guy from the US, although a retired vice principal, he kind of seemed slow…whatever, not for me to judge…
anyways, was talking all this stuff about showing the other competitors from around the world just how superior americans where, particularly alaskans, where he was from…
on like the fourth day, builds a fire and leaves his ferro rod sitting next to it…thing catches fire and he tapped out a few days later…
did it bring me joy? don’t know, did laugh and smile about it though…
interestingly, another competitor from slovenia decided not to bring a ferro rod at all…that almost always does not work out for competitors…
he did it out of principal…very courageous choice…
he didn’t count on just how moist and humid that area is though…literally there’s lakes everywhere around them…
managed though to get a shelter built, build a bow and drill set, warm the set next to his body, along with some tinder/kindling in his shelter and sure enough, on a dry enough day was able to get a fire started…kind of amazing in those conditions…
not sure if he’ll try to sustain a fire, or just keeping going with friction flame…
he’s also forgoing boiling his water, again normally a really bad move…he’s using two waterproof boots, elevation difference between the boots, and a scarf to filter/transfer the water…
never saw that one before…
another competitor is indigenous to that area…way awesome to see their survival approach…

big difference this season, how incredibly abundant game is in the area, never seen a season where folks were eating so well…
i’m only a couple of weeks in on it though, snow and wind hasn’t arrived in force yet…
survivor, les stroud, dual survival, below zero and now Alone…
oh yeah, there’s this dude on nat geo who treks thru some vicious environments, called primal i think…fun stuff there too…
different survival format, so, your left more so with a rooting interest for the protagonist…
competitions just set up a different viewing vibe…
and yes, sometimes sad/tragic to watch – but when the show’s namesake causes competitors to leave, that is really really interesting to observe…

For the most part, readers here don’t seem to be 1) retired or 2) independently wealthy and not needing to bring in paychecks, and with that assumption (whether correct or incorrect, and whether or not you or I specifically fit into those typecasts ourselves) being the case, “most of us” would be working on a Friday afternoon unless it’s a holiday or some other occasionality. That’s all. 🙂

Oh good, geo, glad for that. Super realistic and a bit difficult to watch at times, but I liked some of the realism (like when you’re inside in the 17th century of course it is REALLY DARK, and if you’re on a super long canoe trip of course you have to shit over the side of the boat…).
Only in that it was another trauma to flee from Geo…! A few great teachers (including my Latin teacher, Father Larry Ryan), but not an hospitable environment for a shy, bookish kid. I guess I did pick up some survival skills, though.
