Dog days between the All-Star break and the next game. Macri had Ian O’Connor on to talk about the idea of LeBron coming here next year. I know we’ve already talked about it a little, but let me throw a few specific questions at you:
1. If LeBron wanted to come here for the minimum — so we wouldn’t have to ditch other players for reasons beyond apron maneuvering that would happen with or without him — would you want him on the team?
2. If LeBron wanted to come but be paid at least the taxpayer exception, if not more (but still much less than a max) — thus requiring us to jettison guys to make enough room — would you want him on the team?
3. If LeBron wanted a significant but non-max contract — thus requiring a LOT of maneuvering to fit him in — would you want him on the team?
4. On a team that still has Brunson and at least one of KAT or OG as better offensive options at this point, could you start LeBron at power forward? Small forward? Smallball center only?
I would take Lebron on the minimum. I would probably take Lebron on the taxpayer exception. I don’t think I would take Lebron on anything significant though.
My expectation would be he would be our 6th man. He wouldn’t do it though.
As a starter? I guess he could replace Hart and then Hart could be our 6th man?
Alan, I think convo’s about LeBron coming here are clickbait. I don’t see any possibility of it happening. But for argument’s sake, I would most definitely not want LeBron at any price above the minimum, and would not feel great about him even at that price. Really, fuck him. He’s a drama queen with zero interest in anything but his own legacy. His play is teetering on a cliff, and we all saw from the Jason Kidd experience how the wheels can suddenly fall off at a critical moment.
Let him go fuck up Cleveland’s last gasp at a title run.
Lebron never coming here.
With the Sports Guy on Reggie Miller being annoying during AllStar Game broadcast.
Alvarado and Sochan are like Xmas presents on a snowy Xmas morning. Alvarado is the present you’ve opened and it’s what you didn’t know you wanted but now realize it’s exactly what you did want. Sochan is still a mystery wrapped in pretty paper and a bow, and you’re excited (and perhaps a bit nervous) to open it.
Meanwhile, LeBron is the pony you wanted when you were five, but you’re not five anymore (and neither is the pony). So it’s no longer a consideration.
Nice work, Raven!
I am sure my perspective is different than most of you folks that seem to be very invested in the final result of winning a championship.
To me, Knicks fandom is about being entertained. I marvel at these guys and think of the game as an artform, ballet among giants.
This current iteration of the Knick I personally find as enormously entertaining and very likeable. I hope they win the title but if they don’t I’m perfectly content with a group of guys that gives me everything they’ve got and comes up a little short.
I have zero interest in the LeBron dog and pony show. A decade ago, sure. I’m funny in a certain way. Once a gal ever turned me down, there was no power on earth that could make me try again. I feel the same about LeBron.
Could you just imagine every day Windhorst and the morons at ESPN complining “LeBron only got 21 minutes last night,” etc and fire the coach, blah, blah, blah.
My soul has no price…. I’m not going the Dorian Gray route.
I am not into art.
I just want to win a chip.
I will only qualify my above remarks as follows: If Leon acquired LeBron, whatever the price, I would still hold my nose and root hard for it to work out. And on a minimum deal, it is quite likely he would be an asset.
Ultimately, we have no control over what Leon does, so whatever. It’s not really worth discussing unless it happens, or there are definite signs that it’s going to happen. There’s what seems like a billion years between now and when that discussion is even a possibility. Really, this is the most important 4-month stretch of Knicks basketball since the 1990s. Seems like there’s lots of things to talk about that are more germane to our fortunes.
Not to give Al an aneurysm, but isn’t it a little nuts to have your top pitching prospect throwing a 49 pitch bullpen session topping at 102.6 versus Judge, Stanton and Bellinger on 2/16?

Here’s something that I think merits discussion: What will the Knicks rotation and minutes distribution look like in upcoming games, both with and without Mitch? Deuce isn’t coming back for at least another month, but let’s assume OG is likely to be recovered enough to play coming out of the break. Here’s my guess:
With Mitch:
Starters:
Brunson: 34
Mikal: 34
KAT: 32
OG: 32
Hart: 30
Bench:
Mitch: 24
Shamet: 22
Alvarado: 18
Diawara: 14
Without Mitch:
Starters:
Brunson: 34
Mikal: 34
KAT: 32
OG: 32
Hart: 30
Bench:
Shamet: 24
Alvarado: 22
Diawara: 16
Sochan and Huk: split 16
I left Clarkson out of the rotation, thinking that he will eat whatever minutes from Shamet and Alvarado that Brown think is necessary. But who knows, maybe Clarkson and Sochan have some unexpected chemistry.
I could also see Brown splitting Mo’s and Sochan’s minutes to see whether there’s situational differences.
dang, Carlos Lagrange is 6’7″, and almost 240 pounds…maybe he can play some power forward for us…
tv talk time…started watching predator badlands, it’s okay…unexpected a little maybe…the tone is similar a bit to the last movie, Prey, wherein the tone is more geared towards adventure than simple bloody violence…
gonna try to hold off on watching the last 2 episodes of a KotSK…re-watch the whole thing as one…shoot only about 3 hours or so of content for their first season…
finished up the second season of the night manager with thor’s brother loki as supreme super agent jonathan pine, that is supreme until all his plans consistently turn to poop…fun show though…
anyone latch on to any new fun shows?
Reasonably I can’t argue against LeBron at the minimum, but that doesn’t mean I’d welcome the move. I like liking this team (with the possible exception of KAT, who I like but whose play often threatens the health of my coffee table and those around me). I would like this team less with LBJ on it.
One thing I learnt about my fandom–and only really clear this year after over 50 years–is that liking the core of a roster is much more important than I thought. Way more invested in a Jalen led team getting there than the 2012-13 Melo led team. Love to see a redeemed KAT (traded here to his surprise) rather than a renewed Amare (signed here because we gave him the most money) hold the trophy. Home grown Mitch versus on his 5th team Tyson. Contributions from up and improving draftees Deuce and Mo versus declining to washed Kidd and Sheed. All this to say, don’t want LeBron even at the vets minimum.
I’m with BernieErnie (to avoid trying to say the same thing only not as well).
I would’ve traded KAT straight up for LeBron 3 weeks ago if the Lakers would have been dumb enough to eat his contract. So I’m open to any maneuvering as long as it gets us out of that deal with no cost.
That said, it’s totally a “depends what happens in the playoffs” situation now. KAT has the chance to redeem himself.
I actually would love to have LeBron with KAT. One of the most under appreciated parts of LeBron is his leadership. He holds his teammates accountable in ways no one else can. He kept Kyrie in line, straightened out JR Smith enough to win a chip. It anyone can get us the best version of KAT, it’s him.
Great perspective on Cap from a guy who played with him in college.
I too stand with BE…lebron would kind of kill the vibe…
Judge hit a bomb off him earlier before the 102mph K.
I think the idea that there is a “best” to bring out in KAT is mostly an illusion. He’s been in the league for 11 years and 23,000 minutes. He is what he is, and it’s quite possible that he lost a step and is struggling because can’t deal with it. He’s got to develop a better sense of when he has an advantage and when he doesn’t. He’s getting beat to the spot time and time again. Maybe LeBron helps shift his mindset, but it’s also quite possible that he would be a detriment to KAT because he’d passive aggressively blame the repercussions of his own decline on KAT, among others.
This team is finally not a media circus, and bringing LeBron in would be a major step back into that abyss.
Didn’t think of Tyson Chandler because I thought that he was almost universally loved and appreciated here. 🙂
More than Mikal Bridges did?
The vibes here have been very volatile since ’24. The good vibes only last until the next players only meeting is called to address how bad the vibes are.
I can’t imagine a world where LeBron is as unhappy to be here as Mikal and KAT have been. Frankly I think we owe it to the vibes to get one of them out of here.
Again, “depending on how the playoffs turn out,” I’d likely be open to a maneuver that sends Mikal Bridges to LA for draft equity and LeBron in a sign-and-trade. Mikal’s at $33M next year. If LeBron takes $14M (the MLE) that gets us under the apron and lets us complete the trade. It also lets us bring everyone back.
Then you’ve got:
1 Brunson, Alvarado, Kolek
2 Hart, Deuce
3 Anunoby, Shamet
4 LeBron, Sochan, Diawara
5 KAT, Robinson
Plus draft capital from the Lakers.
If I’m the only one vibing to that, so be it.
KAT’s so dumb he cost his team the all star game. I’ve never seen anyone in all star game as mad as Wemby was when KAT turned off his brain again on that game-winning 3. There’s no way he’s holding the trophy unless someone like LeBron wins it for him.
I want Brunson to hold the trophy. I don’t particularly care who helps him do it. He’s the vibe.
Knicks seem to be positioned ok in the number of tanking teams they will play during the rest of the season.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7051553/2026/02/17/nba-tanking-playoff-swiss-prospect-riethauser/
Aside from the exorbitant price paid for him, did anyone else actually feel that Mikal was a “vibe-killer” at any point?
You mean besides Thibs?
I think of mikal as one of the smartest basketball players we have on our team, right there maybe with OG…introverts perhaps that aren’t designed to be everyone’s cup of tea…
it’s funny, I think jalen is the smartest guy on the team – including being smart enough to not let folks know too much about what he really thinks…careful with his words he is…
and, on an even more postive note, young mister sochan has quite the attractive partner coming along with him…
cool we got a couple of british chaps now in him and OG…like a lot of these players it seems, jeremy’s been a pro for a while now…
I like his free spirit, hopefully the discipline necessary to be successful has been internalized by him…
I don’t love the idea of trying to field a defense with Brunson & KAT & this version of LeBron. One of those guys should go.
If he’s taking the minimum or TPMLE, you take Lebron and figure the rest out later. Later being immediately trading KAT for another player who is better on defense. While we’re playing fantasy basketball, let’s say it’s Giannis.
Hubert, doing a superb job of single-handedly taking on the job of killing the vibe…
Mya Mills has a pretty face but other than that not at all my type, geo. Not that she cares; nor should she. LOL
“Knicks seem to be positioned ok in the number of tanking teams they will play during the rest of the season.”
Can’t access without a subscription, KFNINJ. Which teams are considered to be the official tanking ones?
We have a very easy 7-game stretch between March 11-24:
Wed, Mar 11 @ Utah
Fri, Mar 13 @ Indiana
Sun, Mar 15 vs Golden State
Tue, Mar 17 vs Indiana
Fri, Mar 20 @ Brooklyn
Sun, Mar 22 vs Washington
Tue, Mar 24 vs New Orleans
I don’t think anyone else cared whether Bridges killed Thibs’ vibe or not. The way I saw it, Mikal said something that pretty everyone else here was thinking, and said that he had talked to Thibs about it. Thibs said that they never talked about it. It was never mentioned again by either party, nor did it seem to affect the on-court behavior of either of those two or anyone else associated with the team.
There’s some who believe that Mikal was a major factor in Thibs getting fired. To the degree to which that is true (probably not very much) it was the legitimate issue that pretty much everyone agreed on that got Thibs fired, and I, for one, don’t think how Mikal felt had any bearing on the decision. In other words, I think Thibs would have been fired even if Mikal never said a word and vocally supported him in his exit meeting.
Thibs got fired for essentially the same reason he got fired in Chicago and in Minnesota…failure to compromise and collaborate with management over personnel, strategies, and tactics. Ironically, to the extent that Mikal had any influence, he actually improved the vibe of the Knicks by creating an opportunity to bring on a less vibe-killing coach.
I agree, Z-man (and I loved Thibs) but gotta quibble with one thing.
Thibs got fired from Chicago because he wouldn’t tank and he was too good of a coach for them to tank.
lol dude the vibe’s been a bunch of toxic old men ridiculously declaring they don’t want LeBron James even at the vet min because he’s uppity. I’m happy to be the one killing it.
“I agree, Z-man (and I loved Thibs) but gotta quibble with one thing.
Thibs got fired from Chicago because he wouldn’t tank and he was too good of a coach for them to tank.”
Actually, it’s not a quibble at all, since it aligns seamlessly with “failure to compromise and collaborate with management.”
I mean, technically, yes. But still a bullshit reason to fire a coach when your MO is to lose games and the coach you have is too good.
Chicago could have said “wow, even though we lost DRose, Thibs is still busting his ass and keeping us competitive. We’re so lucky to have him as a coach” and let him continue to do his thing. But instead they wanted to “tank” and they’ve been completely irrelevant since then.
????
I can’t speak for the toxic old men everywhere (whatever that means) but IMO as far as Lebron is concerned, the juice isn’t worth the squeze anymore.
The toxic old guys understand that the whole is often more than the sum of its parts.
For the record most of the toxic folks in world history were middled aged and not old.
Lent can’t come soon enough!
One more day…
Looking at our schedule we have 27 games left. I think 19-8 should be the expectation. Anything better and we did well, anything worse and we stumbled a bit.
We have 12 games against teams in the top six of each conference. Two of those are 2nd nights of a B2B and six are on the road. I think 6-6 should be the expectation.
We have 8 games against teams that are in the play-in or within one loss of the play-in. Two of those are 2nd nights of a B2B and five are on the road. I think 6-2 should be the expectation in those games.
We have 7 games against teams fully out of the play-in race. One is the 2nd night of a B2B and four are on the road. Most if not all of these teams are tanking. I think 7-0 should be the expectation in those games.
That would put us at 19-8 over the remaining games and 54-28 overall. It won’t shake out exactly like that but that should be the baseline.
8 of our 12 games against playoff teams happen over the next 10 games. How we do over this stretch will largely determine how well we finish the season. If we can go 6-4 or better we are in good shape the rest of the way. I am really hoping for 7-3 or 8-2 and I think we can do it.
Potential schedule losses are OKC at home on the 2nd night of a B2B and LAC (if they aren’t in the tank) in LA on the 2nd night of a B2B and 5th game in 7 days. Other than that our schedule looks fine.
OKC ain’t what they used to be by a long shot, especially without SGA.
If Lebron joined the Knicks I’d become a T-Wolves fan until he retired much the way I rooted for the Nuggets when we traded Gallo, Chandler, Mozgov, Felton, a 1st round pick and 2nd round picks for Melo who I did not like much. I’m not even a huge Randle fan, but Randle and DDV is more likeable than the Knicks with James. He had his chance. F him.
Just for the record, James is not anything close to the player he was 2-3 years ago and he’s only going to get worse next year. That’s Luka’s and Reeve’s team with an assist from Smart, Vanderbilt and Hachimura. If James was out, there would be no noticeable difference in LA’s results. They have enough scoring and playmaking without him. He doesn’t defend at all.
Yeah the Knicks have a stretch in March where they really should pull off another 8 game winning streak, rather easily too.
Isn’t Lebron James the guy who was flipping water bottles on us… Great player… can go eat a duffel bag of diddling dildos.
For those without access, here is the table of games remaining against definitely tanking teams for the top teams in the East. See the link I posted above for more details. The first number is many games left against what he calls the egregious six ( the most dedicated tankers) and the second number is all the game remaining against all the teams he considers to be tanking.

Can we please stop speculating about Lebron James coming to NY….this is sooo 2010. He’s not coming to warm the bench for OG. This is a zero probability event.
Same as discussing extension contract value for Mitch, if he was healthy and shot 40% from three?
I’ll just re-post this quote from yesterday (god forbid I somehow conjured this stupid conversation with it…):
Favorite random quote of the day:
“The Lakers grade out as a 38-win team when LeBron is on the floor, per Cleaning the Glass.”
LeBron is still very good and funnily enough fills a few specific weaknesses for the current Knicks (secondary ball handler and shot creator, front court depth). So yeah if we can acquire him painlessly (or at the cost of, like, Dadiet and Hukporti) I’d definitely do it. It’s not like age 42 LeBron on the minimum or TPMLE would have the clout to get a coach fired or a teammate(s) traded. He’d basically be a super role player.
Obviously, once we start talking about making actual sacrifices to bring him in the conversation changes entirely.
Counterpoint: he has been meaningfully better than Karl Anthony Towns both this year and last year, and is frankly more trustworthy at 41 than KAT is at 30.
“Same as discussing extension contract value for Mitch, if he was healthy and shot 40% from three?”
Well he’s over 40% from the FT line, so there’s that. Baby steps.
No to Lebron, please. There was a time for him to come here, he didn’t want to come. End of story.
And btw, yesterday Raven posted a funny quote of the day: “The Lakers grade out as a 38-win team when LeBron is on the floor, per Cleaning the Glass”
Is this being dismissed?
Thanks for the article, Z-man. We all know Brunson is great, but it’s always nice to know more about how he got to where he is.
Sorry, Raven, i came to post my replies without reading all the comments. 😛
This I agree with. I just don’t consider ridding ourselves of KAT’s $120M an “actual sacrifice.” It’s the #1 thing on my to do list!
Now if you told me we’d have to let Mitch or Alvarado go to fit him in, no way.
Even if you told me signing LeBron would hard cap as at the second apron and cost us Shamet and Diawara, I think I might pass.
But if you’re telling me all I have to do is get rid of one of the worst contracts in the NBA? I’m in!
KAT is having a bad year by his standards and is overpaid by ~$20m.
He’s still an All Star & leads NBA in rebounds and double doubles. At he’s worst, this year, he’s a top 3 center in the conference.
When he lights it up in April, May and June, – we’ll forget how he shot it during December and January.
KAT is having a down year statistically but I don’t see anything to indicate he’s declining. He has never rebounded better and imo he hasn’t been as bad defensively this year as last year.
His problem is that he’s playing in a system and with a PG that’s not doing much to help him get high quality shots.
His shot selection has been weak.
He’s often driving into crowds where he gets called for offensive fouls or winds up on the floor. He gets no respect from the refs when does that either.
He shoots a tad too many tough 3s.
He also gets whatever he can get on putbacks.
That’s not so great overall.
But he DOES have to do a BETTER job hitting the quality 3s he does get (like on open pullups). Maybe his finger is bothering him. Other than that I think it’s just statisical noise. He’ll be fine.
Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing him play with Alvarado to see if that helps a bit. I’ve given up on Brunson making Towns better. Brunson is a great closer, but imo he’s not the kind of PG that makes players around him better at the level he’s capable of given how often he penetrates or they double him. He creates for himself at an amazing level, but not enough for others given his ability.
I’m not sure Towns is the answer and I don’t think the Brunson/Towns combo is ideal on ether side, but I want nothing to do with James. He’s close to done defensively.
Before you declare it a conspiracy of toxic old men, Hubie, you should check out LBJ’s numbers. The counting stats are still fine, but advanced numbers aren’t so good, and defense… Well, it’s Strat’s old E-Fence moniker.
Cuban is openly challenging Silver and basically saying his commissioner doesn’t understand the league.
I would just eliminate the draft and let kids sign with whomever they want to. League will be a little top heavy but a ton more kids will be paid millions to play for youth and G League teams.
Also, eliminate the salary cap too and go full MLB. Some of our small market owners are the wealthiest. Annual team revenue and ticket sales no longer dictates owners appetitte & will to spend.
Teams will have to employ a venture capitalist strategy and hand top 100 elite 14 and 15yr olds something like a 5yr – $10m contract. Have them put % of this money in a trust fund until they turn 25 and let kids pursue their passion.
Sorry, Director, but all of that is *also* about as likely as Mitch hitting 40 percent of his 3s. None of that is happening, probably not in our lifetimes, and likely not ever.
just read that silly spiel by cuban with some weird pro-tanking slant…
basically saying silver should just worry about the money, not the competition…
what a hollow soul…
ha I wasn’t counting you in the clique, Rama. Thought you had a fair take. (Also thought you were pretty young-ish, too.)
I know the extent of LeBron’s decline but there’s no advanced stat in the world to suggest he’s not worth adding for the minimum. And if we have to get rid of KAT it’s not like that’s a good defender going out. (Seriously, did you see the all star game? Wemby couldn’t believe how stupid KAT is. And that’s the exact same thing his teammates complained to Fred Katz about — inexplicable rotations combined with not seeming to grasp the seriousness.)
The Mikal idea was bad, I was just looking for a way to get him and KAT together, if that’s something anyone wanted to do.
Hubie, if we stipulate that we should want to sign LBJ if he wants to come here for the minimum and we do not have to really give up any players that we value, the question remains:
Why on Earth would LBJ want to come here for the minimum? He’s shown through his entire career that he does *very much* care about the money, and also that he doesn’t give discounts. (If he did decide to offer the first-ever discount of his career, I would have to think that it would be to Cleveland, not to us. Yes, he likes playing in the Garden, but he has no real personal ties to NYC.)
I dont think he would, Doogie. That’s why I never entertained the idea. I proposed getting rid of KAT or trading Mikal so we could offer him the MLE. (And EB was right about the Mikal idea leaving us too poor defensively.)
I did not. Sounds like the new format was OK, at least. And I believe you about KAT’s error – as said, he’s the one player I’d look to trade, especially before considering any extension. But James would be good value on the minimum, and not so much otherwise; and I’d hope we could get better than a fairly washed James for KAT. Yes, I know part is the goal is getting off bad salary, but when you’re over the apron you have to use your assets more effectively than that. We won’t have all those players you list – Shamet will be too expensive, Sochan if he shows out will likely be gone, Mitch will get at least Exception-level offers, and so on. We have to get something for existing salaries, not just dump them.
I say all this acknowledging that at one point I argued getting rid of KAT would be addition by subtraction. Losing gets to all of us, I guess.
I guess I think that I could substitute “MLE” in for “the minimum” in my prior post and still say everything else.
The MLE wouldn’t be a discount. It would likely be the highest offer (at least from a contender — maybe the Wizards would offer more).
So your question is then: “why would LeBron accept $14M to play for the Knicks instead of taking the minimum at Cleveland?”
So do it. The idea was to “maneuver”. If you trade KAT for a $17M player you save $40M. Now you’ve got LeBron and that guy instead of KAT and you saved $26M.
didn’t watch all of the all-star stuff, did catch the dunk contest and some of sunday’s mini games…
thought the dunk contest was fun and competitive…the play on sunday was waaaaaay better than usual…
think someone already mentioned it, but yeah it was hilarious watching wemby get upset with KAT for leaving someone open at the arc when only a 3 point play would cause them to lose…there are simply different levels to the game of basketball…the spurs could be a really tough out come playoff time…
Maybe, Rama, you can trade KAT and our ’33 pick for Santi Aldama (or a similar C), give LeBron the MLE. We’d be hard capped at the first apron but we’d be about $30M under it without KAT’s bloat. $25.5M under after an opt-in-and-extend with Jose. That’s enough money to sign Mitch, Mo, Landry, and the two draft picks. Maybe LeBron even does you a solid and takes $10M instead of $14M so you can sign Sochan.
1 Brunson, Alvarado
2 Bridges, Deuce, Shamet
3 Anunoby, Hart
4 LeBron, Sochan, Diawara
5 Robinson, Aldama, Huk
Plus two rookies (I got rid of Kolek and Dadiet to make room for them).
That’s what I meant by maneuver.
I mean, the vibes would be just awful without KAT but maybe someone else can sweep the floor, cry to the officials, cry in the press, boast about his sacrifice, undermine the coach, commit dumb fouls, and constantly piss off OG Anunoby.
Good lord, Hubie, are you volunteering to play center for the Knicks if they dump KAT?
(Where’s Pags when you need him for some positive vibes…)
I liked the new format and if I was a Clippers fan I would love th form Kawhi showed
I might be alone on this but I doubt Landry or Mo get much more than the minimum next year. Landry is playing well but he isn’t young, has missed real time both last year and this year, and only averages like 20 minutes a game. There is a reason he came out of both of the last two offseasons with no contract. Mo is a late 2nd round pick that will probably play less than a thousand minutes and maybe have 100 3pt attempts. Lots of 2nd rounders show glimpses of potential, I think it’ll take more than what he’s shown to make a team try and outbid us. Unless something major happens, like he has to start in the playoffs and he explodes, I doubt anyone will make much of a move for him. Him being restricted and most likely wanting to stay makes it almost a lock we will be able to keep him if we want.
I would also be surprised if there is a huge market for Sochan unless he shows out huge. It’s possible someone wants to gamble on his untapped potential but I feel like if anyone really liked his upside they would have traded for him when all they needed to give was expiring contracts and a Starbucks gift card.
The apron is crushing the mid to low level players and I doubt it is Mo, Sochan, or Landry that break that trend.
Robinson will get offers but with his injury history and what happened with Timelord and Zion, and Embiid. Teams cannot afford to lock up major money on players with injury questions. I doubt anyone throws both money and guaranteed years at him. I’m guessing 2/25 or 3/30 is about his ceiling when it comes to offers.
Alvarado is the most likely to get some real suitors but again I don’t think anyone is playing a bunch of money for a 28 year old back up PG. Something around 3/20 or 3/25 is probably the top of his market.
We also have bird rights to both Mitch and Alvarado and I think they’ll both want to stay if all things are equal. So most likely it’s up to us if we keep them.
Honestly, if we want to keep all of them I bet we can. We’ll be over the 2nd apron but I think it’s ultimately going to be up to us.
landry shamet, professional baller…seven year pro with career earnings over 37 million…
hopefully his career highlights end up including a chip or two with the new york knicks…
Shamet has made $32,947,106 over his NBA career—$30,650,832 prior to this year, and $2,296,274 for this season.
I suppose this will impact what Leon will do going forward…
Also: Mason Plumlee signed a 10-day with the Spurs, and Jayson Tatum is undecided as to whether or not he’ll return this season.
RIP Doug Moe, groundbreaking coach.
I’m pretty sure Shamet has earned something closer to the mid-level, or at worst a Yabu kind of contract. He’s young enough that some of these teams now trying to compete could look at his great shooting and decent defense and feel that he’d provide the kind of cheap production that helps their younger players grow into their roles.
Mo is an interesting question. I don’t think it can be answered until the end of the season – I mean, look at where he is today compared to three months ago! Maybe he stops growing… Or maybe he continues to improve at his current rate and plays real minutes in the playoffs. Who knows?
But your final point is that we can keep them if we want, and I agree with that. I just think we’re likely going over the second apron unless we make a move or two. Which might be ok: we’d be in the playoffs every year for a few years, with a chance to go far. But it would likely put a championship out of reach.
I think you are going to be in for a fairly rude awakening this summer. 6/9 225 lb 20 yr olds with insane reach and can shoot from distance as well as handle the ball aren’t exactly common. I don’t see him signing for a minimum or a Deuce styled contract.
Seriously, had he been the 8th player taken in last years draft, would you be happy today?
“Seriously, had he been the 8th player taken in last years draft, would you be happy today?”
Seriously, yes. Why wouldn’t I be, in general? Plus, in our specific case, it’s been so long since we had a high draft pick that worked out that it would feel really good to have this kind of hope for one. (Of course, we’d be paying him a lot more, but I’d still be enjoying his development just as much.)
I can’t tell if this was the response that you were expecting, or the opposite of it, but there you go.
The discussion yesterday was what to do if we acquired Lebron for a minimum or Yabu-like contract.
Fair enough. I checked out on the thread.
Still not sure it’s a cut and dry case.
