Gm Knickerbloggers! I just got in town this morning. I’m looking for 1 ticket for tonight. Let me know if anyone has a source.
The athletic has a fun article about NY players seeing someone wearing their jersey
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6770898/2025/11/04/knicks-players-fans-jersey-nba/
gkhenman I’ve been using vivid:

This, I think, is where Edwards is at his best: giving a sense of the personalities of the players he’s covering, and describing under-explored aspects of life in the NBA. It’s when he gets into analysis and prediction that he tends to be iffier.
Curious what y’all think of the revamped news bot? I’ve culled the sources down to a few different sites & added a youtube section, again limited to a few sites. This should reduce/eliminate the click-baity articles and hopefully provide decent content.
Good by me, Mike. Thanks as always for your efforts!
I didn’t notice it til you mentioned it but it does have links I would actually click on now. Good work, and thank you.
i like the newsbot that we now have sir thanks so much as always
Funny, Mike, I actually clicked on and read an article before seeing your comment. Hadn’t done that in a while. So yeah, seems better!
And thanks for the link, Hubert – I’m coming to town for the rest of November, so I’ll be checking out some games myself.
mitch and kat currently both questionable for tonite
I liked the old bot. He got me.
Thanks Hubert.
Is OKC gonna go 82-0 this season?
Also, still not a believer in the Magic, their defense this season so far has been awful (and that’s supposed to be their calling card)
Yeah, d-mar, I would guess that Jamahl Mosley’s seat is starting to get a bit warm…but I also think that they will play better going forward.
“Knicks use time machine to trade for 25 year old Michael Jordan in this three way proposed deal.”
okc probably not going 82-0 but will maybe challenge gs 73 game reg season record
Only to lose to the Knicks in 7 games in the NBA finals!
can you imagine another 1994 finals game 7 oj game i dont think any of us would survive that oh wait the oj game was game 5 but still game 7 was killer
If you look at the list, rama, I think everyone is either a primary option or a mistake. You mentioned liking OG more than KAT, for instance, but KAT at $54M is also a mistake; that’s why the Timberwolves traded him. OG looks better than Lavine and Beal and Porter, but they all got salary dumped, too.
The reason I’ve always been against the contract is because the opposite of ThisChicanery’s point yesterday is true:
This is categorically false. Salaries are only increasing for max players. Salaries are compressing for everyone else due to the apron.
Tertiary options and non superstars are getting squeezed. RFAs are being forced to take the qualifying offer. And the vet min market is full of guys like Clarkson who were making $14M a year ago. It’s remarkably wrong to say player salaries are going up right now. 26% of the cap for a tertiary option is pre-apron economics.
Let me know if you go, gkhenman. I’m attending the game, as well, and meeting a friend at Tir Na Nog for dinner before.
FWIW I see three teams who failed to read the room when aprons kicked in: New York, Orlando, Toronto.
Masai already got fired (rightfully so) for giving pre-apron era deals to non-stars like Barnes, IQ, and Ingram.
Orlando’s cap sheet looks like fucking hell.
We are ok right now because Bridges & Brunson combine to counter OG & KAT. But that goes away when the Bridges extension kicks in next year. Then I think the impact of OG, Bridges, and KAT will be clear.
But that’s a next year problem. Leon gave up the whole fucking farm for this year. I don’t think it was smart to do so, but I’m sure as fuck going to enjoy it before the bill comes due.
With all these mistakes, you’d think we’d be a lottery team. And yet…
were squarely in line for the play in with the heat and the cavs
I’m in like Flynn, Hubert. I bought a ticket in Sec 208. I’m definitely open for a drink or a bite before the game. Just let me know.
@gkhenman/@hubert – if you want me to help sync you two up without publicly sharing your info, you can send me an email at mike at my last name dot com, and I’ll pass them over.
You know KAT wants to play vs the Wolves tonight… But if Mitch can play, maybe it’s a good game for him to miss
Thanks, Mike K, I actually set up a fake email for this a while ago! gkhenman you can email me at hubertdaviskb@gmail.com and I will get back to you.
And rama, whenever you’re in, do the same. I am working across the street from MSG from now til Christmas so I’m going to a ton of games.
Some interesting stats from Macri’s newsletter today:
Regardless of the eventual results, I give Mike Brown a lot of credit for saying he’ll be implementing a vastly different offensive system, and then actually following through on that. Plenty of coaches have done the former with the latter not following, either because of a lack of actual new ideas or player intransigence, or most likely, some combination of the two.
As for the results, I’m pretty optimistic given that we’ve drastically underperformed our expected point total based on our shot and shooter quality data, and still have the 13th ranked offense.
Brunson ain’t gonna shoot 32% from 3 forever, and who knows, Yabu might even see a few go down at some point before the sun explodes. Keep getting ’em up.
I put the numbers into my Excel sheet. If Brunson was shooting his career average .388 from 3, his TS% would be .612.
His career high TS% is .618 from his Dallas time. He had a 20.2% usage. This year he’s at a career-high usage of 32.6%.
His 2nd highest usage year is only 00.1% lower, but his TS% was .597. Still very good, but considerably lower.
He’s also below his career number from 3-10ft. This is the zone where he takes the most 2pt shots every year. His career average is .496 and he’s currently shooting only .364. Now imagine if that were to revert to the mean…
im imagining it and liking it
Great stuff, EB. Only a matter of time unit JB returns to mean but I won’t be suprised, if he actually has a career shooting year with all improvement in quality of shots, space and legs (minutes decrease). He’s right where we want him to be.
Noble, thanks for that — I’d actually copied the last bit about the changes, but work pulled me away before I could paste it. I agree with your analysis re Brown, and it feels very much like this is a better version of the starters in terms of touches/dribbles than before.
It kind of feels like a big-ass engine that’s just revving up…
Personally, I wouldn’t describe what I’m seeing as a “vastly different” offensive system…and that’s a good thing! It’s more about different points of emphasis, trading off risk of TOs for better opportunities, and being more proactive/reactive to opposing defenses. Most of the things that we are now doing were possible and even occurred within Thibs’ offense…just not enough, in large part due to his risk-averse nature. Dribbling is safer than passing, shooting only select 3’s is safer than letting it fly, etc.
One cautionary note: It’s all working well for now…but last year we started the year with one of the best offenses in the NBA, only to have it derailed once film of how the team played got around and adjustments were made. In that sense, we won’t really be able to judge the efficacy of this offense until the league sees enough film, some coach tries something that works, and the league copies that strategy. Then we’ll see if Brown’s counter-adjustments work…which I’m hopeful about, because he’s not going to be as rigid about implementing change as Thibs was.
Shams:
i cant wait unit its fully working i really dont think itll take 20 games hopefully well work out all the kinks during this long homestand and come out guns blazin on the other end of it
That sucks. I saw some highlights of his play this year where it looked like he might have taken a step forward.
his reb/36 and blk/36 were way down from last season and his pf/36 and to/36 were way up but yeah horrible news for the young man
I think you described pretty big differences here that are so far bearing out empirically
At a certain point you have to stop obsessing about salary and ask yourself wether you can win a championship with this player at position X in role Y.
If you keep trading every player that might be making too much you’ll be like a squirrel in a spinning wheel and get nowhere. That’s not to say you should wildly overpay or give more years than makes sense, but you can’t keep taking a step backwards to save money while looking for an equal or better player for less.
Can you win a championship with OG as your SF/PF?
IMO, unquestionably YES.
Is he wildly overpaid?
NO
So you pay him.
Can you win a championship with Bridges as your SG/SF?
IMO, unquestionably YES and I gave that answer last year.
Is he wildly overpaid?
NO.
So you pay him.
Where it gets dicey is whether you can win a championship with Towns and Brunson. Both are a negative on defense. When you have two negative defenders it gets very diffuclt to build a championship caliber defense. It causes lineup issues you’d rather not have to deal with and that may not have a good solution.
I like Towns a lot on many levels, but if we are fully committed to Brunson (and it seems we are), we are paying Towns a lot and we aren’t really sure this will work. So I can see questioning the fit and eventually even making a move if the right player was available.
But I think obsessing over every million for the key pieces or giving up a 5 cents on a dollar with a draft trade is missing the bigger picture of trying to create a team of quality players that fits together well.
There were a couple of occasions last year that Thibs publicly stressed ball movement and we looked so good on offense even I wasn’t complaining about the lack of player/ball movement and Brunson dribbling too much. The test will come when we play against a top defense. Are we moving the ball? Are players active? Do we fall back into dribbing and ISO.
Hmm, I was going to respond to the last bit from Strat with “You mean like tonight?” But in fact if the site I’m looking at is correct, Minny is currently ranked 20th in team defense (we’re 14). Last year the Wolves were 5th, so maybe this is an early season blip?
Yeah the offense looks nice but I’m not going to get too excited really until the playoffs. One thing I am concerned about. We’ve often said that Thibs only threw rock but one thing that I’ve LOVED about the Thibs teams the last few years is how tough they have looked in the playoffs. We’ve had some absolutely thrilling victories that came in the last minute because the team never gave up. And Thibs stresses the fundamentals that can keep a team in a game even when the shots aren’t falling. It looks ugly at times but then you win games one and two in Boston coming back in the last 5 minutes or you win game 2 against philly in the first round with a remarkable sequence of games or you close out philly on the road playing tough ball.
Will this team have the same fortitude? Cause one thing I feel about the new modern NBA offenses is that it looks so pretty and nice when the three’s are falling but can the team play ugly and win. Just ask Boston how the offense looks when the three’s aren’t falling and the shots aren’t so easy.
In other words, I am concerned that Mike Brown’s team might put up better numbers in the regular season but be an easier out in the playoffs. OF course, this is just a concern of mine that I have no way of easing until the playoffs, but it’s something I’m going to think about all season.
yep its a concern for sure
Swifty, it’s a legitimate concern, but it’s fairly low on my worry list partly because we have the world’s best clutch player who can score baskets despite what everyone does to stop him. And we also have Josh Hart who will happily kill himself to win a game. And we will have OG snatching the ball and heart out of teams. And now that Mikal is flying around the court like he’s actually enjoying himself, barring injuries that’s a pretty good recipe for when things get ugly.
Yeah, having captain clutch is good. And the team learned a lot last year with that deep playoff run. Plus the core guys now all have multiple years of playoff successes and losses collectively to lean on that experience. I just hope they don’t lose the Thibs grind mentality. I think that mental fortitude has served them well.
Brunson is great and all but let’s not get carried away. Nesmith and Haliburton both did more clutch stuff last year than he’s ever done.
##110
its for sure a legitimate concern good thing we have brunson doing his thing and hell likely be doing his thing even better soon
Oh Pags, I’d say I missed you but that would be an utter lie.
Pags vs. experts. Pretty sure I know who I’d back.
In fact, Nesmith and Haliburton didn’t break the top 8.
But you know, sure. What you said.
Yeah when people talk about most clutch players in the NBA, Aaron Nesmith is inevitably part of the conversation.
You know because of one unconscious performance against the Knicks.
nembhard has seemed to do more damage to us than nesmith anyway
