Since it’s quiet this early, may as well ask about what Begley, Edward’s, and I think Shams have said about mutual interest between the Knicks and Durant. Given his age, health, contract status, and the kind of matching salary we’d have to send out, what is everyone’s interest level in finally making this happen six years after he declared us uncool?

OG’s drives looked amazing last night against the Hawks defense. I wonder if he’ll be nearly as successful against Boston and especially Cleveland.

I guess the issue with Durant is that for a guy that’s that good(he’s certainly in his waxing off era but not certifiably waning) and has played next to enormously potent talent, he’s only won a couple chips while masquerading as a knight of Curry’s round ball table. He’s a very black night “thou shall not pass” kinda guy. No thanks… on second thought, KAT doesn’t play defense.

No thanks to Durant. Sorry but Paul George to Philly should be a cautionary tale to all of us about trading or signing an aging superstar. Durant is not without his injury history too.

I also just don’t think the fit is good. He’s not a good defender anymore. So even if you’re swapping KAT for him I don’t think it makes you that much better and doesn’t help the defensive issues.

Saw a stat yesterday somewhere that showed the Knicks up until mid January were actually pretty league average in assists per game but then that plummeted up until Jalen’s injury. So obviously the team is capable of playing a more team flow offensive style with Brunson.

Not sure what changed during that mid January to march stretch but hopefully this time away has shown him that he needs to share the ball more.

I don’t think he’s selfish. He’s just not a pure PG and his instinct is to try to score when things get tough. And we do want him to score! But getting OG and Mikal invoked is going to be the key to our playoff success. That and a healthy dose of ‘Mitch.

I really like this team, but if we bomb in the playoffs, I might consider Durant for KAT. He is still deadly on offense, and I think he is far superior on the defensive side of the ball. It probably shortens our window, but it does raise our ceiling… I love to see OG putting the power in power forward. The way the game is being officiated, he is next to unstoppable in the open court or slashing to the rim.

As other’s have mentioned, Durant is still ultra elite as an offensive player. I wonder how much of his defensive metrics decline is due to ‘I don’t give two shits playing along side Beal and Booker.

He’s 36 but hoops is his life. He played 75 games and 62 this year at 37.2 and 36.5 m/g. Giving him a big contract at 37 next year is something to consider, but he is going to age better than most.

Building a championship team around KAT’s horrendous D is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. A Brunson. Bridges, OG and KD line up surrounding a rebounder/defender with limited offensive skills is sort of the 50s/60’s Celtic model. 🙂

KD is too old, too expensive, and not good enough anymore. Maybe if you’ve looked at KAT for the year and decided he’s not what you want and you trade him straight up for KD and don’t plan on giving Kevin a big extension maybe there’s something there?

KD is still a great offensive player, but he’d make our team worse- if the KAT idea is the one used. At this stage in his career, KD is not gonna defend and rebound well enough for it to be a plus for us. If Bridges and Mitch are the pieces goin out, our offense might be good enough for us to break even at minimum- but it’s a Ceasar from Planet Of The Apes (remake) no for me on KD. I honestly wanna see him in Washington to close his career. Washington has enough trade pieces and youth to at least make the playoffs with KD. I don’t think he’ll win another chip before he retires though- unless he teams with Giannis or Steph again

Definitely want to see how the playoffs shakeout before opining. KAT could be anywhere from our playoff MVP to 4th-quarter-unplayable. That said, if there is a playoff flameout the FO needs to identify the culprit (could be KAT, could be Thibs, could be Mikal, etc) and move him rather than seeing an opportunity to get a star and putting together the least bad option trade package, which would necessarily involve losing someone we don’t want to.

The only way I’d even consider trading for Durant is if we traded Towns for him.

I’m not even sure I like that.

Durant is still an elite scorer. He could take over Towns’s role in the offense.

I don’t think he’s a strong defender at this point, but it would alleviate the Towns/Brunson issue because Mitch would be back as starting C and hopefully we’d either add another C or Hukporti will be ready for a bigger role. Also, Towns’s knee may be an ongoing issue that gets worse over time.

The downside is Durant is older and clearly declining in some other ways than scoring.

    It’s worth thinking about it.

For me, anything else is off the table. I don’t want last puff of Durant for players like OG or Bridges who still have a lot of good two-way years left.

I’m not sure if KD is an answer to any of our problems. He doesn’t fix our defense unless the plan is to trade KAT for him. So I guess it depends on what Cs we can acquire in a second trade.

Let’s not ignore that Durant, even prime Kevin, ain’t getting almost 13 rebounds a game, either. Even with a straight-up trade, you’re not replacing that (Oh, Mitch will play 36 minutes a game for 82 over the next two years…). It would be lunacy, not even considering the massive age gap and end-of-career Kevin.

I could see swapping him in for Mikal, but of course that’s not happening.

And sure you could then trade more of this team for another center, and now you’ve completely blown up the team for end-of-career Durant, and we’ve seen this show before.

    Pass on Durant.

    Don’t 👏 trade 👏 for 👏 players 👏 over 👏 thirty 👏

Especially over 35 with Megamax contracts. Just don’t.

Pass on Durant. It’s not just that he’s pretty old. It’s that I remember he got Atkinson fired from the Nets. Apparently he didn’t want to play the way Atkinson wanted. That’s too much of a risk.

I’m feeling a little less dumb for all that ‘OG can be the Claw 2.0’ chatter I had going on this off season and earlier this year…

Spending of bans, it’s odd we haven’t seen E lately. Can’t imagine why that would be…

Then again, I thought we should trade 4 picks for Mikal, so I probably should be the one hiding….

Oh did our volunteer editorial intern get banned when I wasn’t looking? That would be a shame.

KD is still a great offensive player, but he’d make our team worse- if the KAT idea is the one used. At this stage in his career, KD is not gonna defend and rebound well enough for it to be a plus for us.

Pheonix started the season with KD, Beal, Nurkic, Tyus Jones and Booker. Durant was the best defender of that group. Surround him with Mitch, OG, Bridges and Brunson and I could reasonably predict his defensive effort will improve. He has the length and the brain to play defense. His offense is impeccable.

He’s also pretty handy when you need a bucket with the shot clock running down in a playoff situation. 🙂

Interesting injury news for Knicks: KAT isn’t on there, even though B2B.

Both Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride are questionable.

Mitchell Robinson isn’t on injury report.

So, despite relatively good health this season, Knicks might be at 100 percent for final week of season.

If Brunson is back tonight, we might get a clue as to whether Delon has secured himself a rotation spot, over either Cam or Shamet. Thibs starting him yesterday could be read one of two ways: 1)Thibs is a creature of habit, likes to keep people in their roles, and wanted Payne to come off the bench now that he knew Wright could play some minutes. (See also the period last season, when Sims would start whenever Mitch was out, because Thibs wanted to keep Hartenstein used to playing with the reserve unit.) 2)Thibs sees what we’ve seen, and is trying to find ways to work in a guy with Wright’s size, defensive chops and high floor reliability in the rotation somehow.

Didn’t Edwards used to cover Detroit? He’s trying to jinx us!!!

is trying to find ways to work in a guy with Wright’s size, defensive chops and high floor reliability in the rotation somehow.

I was thinking this might be why he wanted to keep both him and Payne out there for the closing minutes yesterday.

I’m actually a little intrigued by a KD/Towns swap – I’m not really sure we wanted to commit to Town’s decline phase anyways and as others have said KD probably has a few years of juice left. Of course, that’s only really a course of action we could pursue if we had a line on another center.

In any event, selling high on Towns may sadly be one of our only real moves to upgrade the roster. I’m kind in Strat’s camp here and am skeptical he and Brunson can both be part of a championship level defense.

Edit: I’m team Delon all the way, he seems like a genuinely useful bench piece we shouldn’t be too had pressed to use with Brunson.

in all fairness, a big part of the judging of thibs has to do with him getting to the end of the season with a healthy roster…

hopefully we perform well enough during the playoffs that our starters are not out there 40 minutes each game…

and if i’m being honest – super excited to hear/read from a lot of folks whom normally don’t kick in that much during the season…

it’s about to get popping here at KB…hopefully we get a good long run…

the OG for KD talk is pretty mute, cuz OG is both the better player and prospect and value at this point…

now KAT for KD is a bit more interesting, both offensive forces during a game, KD just being a lot more consistent and well rounded…

however, there is no way in the world I would send KAT out of the locker room and bring in KD…

talk about a team chemistry killing move…constant noise around the team…no thank you…

KAT has been about as expected on defense and offense, real happy though with his passing and rebounding…

knowing he’s from the “local” area just means he deserves it more, he appreciates the opportunity like a million times more than a KD…

been also pleased with how he carries himself with a microphone around, very professional…KD is a meme, whatever that means…

cam brings energy in to the game, seems though the whole teams plays better with delon in there, iffense and defense…

for someone whom hasn’t played much recently, delon has looked really good…

The KD rumors should be like a bat signal for E, who loves him some decline phase superstars.

    E, you okay?

The KD rumors should be like a bat signal for E, who loves him some decline phase superstars.

Curry, LeBron and Jimmy Butler seem to be navigating their decline phase better than many stars do their supernova stage.

Caveat: totally non-AI and completely emotional reaction. I guess the Knicks are now conveniently “cool” enough for KD-hard, hard pass for me. I need to actually like the team I root for. In fact, how far the team goes is not the acid test in my world. Give me a bunch of fighters, like Willis, Clyde, DeBusschere, Patrick, Oak, Starks, Mase, Bernard, Brunson and yes, Hart. Do the best you can, leave it out there on the court. No prima donnas.

Have paid not a bit of attention to the Suns, checked their last game, they started Royce O’Neale, Ryan Dunn, and Oso Ighodaro, along with Beal and Booker. The soon-to-be-Knick (not) Kevin Durant was out of commission, as was some clearly insane laboratory creation named Jalen Bridges.

Sounds like Durant might miss today’s game, too.

Also, Beal was 0-7 for 1 point in 30 minutes.

    Although Booker did score 37.

Also your favorite scumbag and mine, Grayson Allen, should get minutes. If he hurts Brunson I will personally fly to Phoenix and bury him in the desert. Alive. Next to an anthill.

Hahn with an interesting take that Durant could go to Minnesota, given his super-close relationship with Ant and the new management team maybe willing to take a big swing.

He’s not playing so I can talk without jinxing,
to me the KD to the Knicks scenario is a loud “NO” even if he’s still a very good player.

“Don’t waste assets for highly paid 33-and-over declining stars” should be a rule.

    * LeBron is the clear exception, but he’s so juiced it bends reality.

Whoever stops doing stupid things first wins this game.

Apparently it’s the 4th game of the year with the full roster, if you don’t count Huk of course

    Thanks BBA,
I consider Huk a roster piece so I was wrong, to me this is not a full roster game but Thibs probably disagrees 😉

Getting dominated on the offensive boards by the Suns is truly something.

Feels like we should be winning by a lot more. Have to clean up all those mistakes.

KAT is a very similar player to Jayson Tatum…

In that they both scream for fouls after every drive to the basket
