I fell asleep somewhere in the 3rd and woke up to this nice surprise, maybe I should do it more often š
A 46-29 4th wasn’t in the cards, but the Little General willed us to the win (17 points in the quarter), kudos to Mikal for keeping us in the game (+29), Josh was Josh and Precious made things.
KAT is gutsy-ing through pain and discomfort (11 4th qrt points) but the hand is clearly bothering him, his 3FG% has plummeted (5-25 since his 2-games absence) and he has trouble even clutching the ball on rebounds.
I’m not a doctor so I don’t know what the right choice is, I’m just worried.
The bench sans Precious produced a meager 12 points and to me Shamet was worse than Huk (who needs to play, here or in Westchester, you’ll never progress glued on the bench).
The Rockets were heavily shortended but their bench, with Whitmore, Holiday and Adams, killed us.
Speaking of the Rockets, I’m really impressed with Amen Thompson (triple-double) he’s basically a 6’7″ Josh Hart’s heir and he’s 6’7″, his future’s already bright and he’ll be scary if he learns to shoot.
Encouraging news yesterday about OG and Mitch, let’s hope the ASG-break help them to be ready for the stretch run.
My fingers are still crossed.
Great news on Mitch. I had thought there was a real possibility that he would never be cleared for contact this season and the logical thing was to trade him. But if he is cleared for contact that basically means he is healed and the process forward is just to be cautious as he rebuilds his strength.
i wish i could live my entire life adrift in mike breen’s synapses in the moments they are deciding whether to proceed with the second bang
That was a really fun game last night. I contemplated turning it off at the beginning of the 4th but am very glad i stuck with it.
Brunson really is amazing. 6 foot nothing guy scoring around these ridiculous 6’7″ athletes and amongst the trees inside. Just such a special player.
Random other thoughts –
– this Rockets team is really fun – Amen Thompson is legit, Eason looks pretty good, and they just have waves of young athletes that they can just throw at you. The #3 pick in the draft barely plays! And they were missing 3 rotation players (Jabari Smith, Sengun, VanVleet). I’m a little surprised they didn’t make a move for Fox who is still pretty young and not so far off the timeline. It must be extremely tempting for them to go and make an all-in move. Devin Booker on this team would be absolute fire, and I would imagine Houston has the goods to get that done if they really wanted to, including the rights to a bunch of Phoenix draft picks.
– Jalen Green is terrible. He would be amazing on a team like Charlotte or Utah — tank commander supreme. Can you imagine him and Jordan Poole on the same team?
– I’m thinking about buyout candidates — and feeling like maybe Lonzo? His scoring has not really come back but he’s still averaging roughly 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2.5 steals per 36, and he is not at all afraid to pull from 3 (shooting about 35% this year on 9 attempts/36). He would be a great addition to play 15-20 minutes per game. I assume every contender would want him, but the NY market might appeal to him?
Alternatively – it looks like Torrey Craig just got bought out by the Bulls – he might be a reasonable depth piece also even though he’s like 100.
Trade deadline-wise — I think they prob need to move Sims even if it costs a minor draft asset, just so they can really play in the buyout market. Hukporti is good enough as a 4th center. Feels like the buyout market never really turns out to be that impactful, but this team really could use just 10-15 minutes of competent play, and Shamet is not it.
Re: OG – let him sit out until after the ASB. it’s only 4 more games and doing that would give him a full 3 weeks to heal and get his legs back. And speaking of getting legs back, I suspect Towns’s shooting issues are more about his legs than his thumb. He is really laboring getting up the court sometimes… .gives me bad Ewing memories.
Wait, so they amputated Townās knees also?
We can’t sign anyone who is bought out and was making more than the non-taxpayer MLE, which is $12,822,000
I like Sims, but I agree it makes sense for the Knicks to trade him. Iāve been having fun trying to figure out a Sims trad that makes sense, but the new salary cap makes it difficult. I can see teams who donāt have enough centers might want him and heās probably worth a second round pick. Heās not highly paid, so youād think a trade wouldnāt be that hard. But. No. For example, the Clippers could use a backup center but actually have no second round picks at all. And Sims makes so little that itās hard to find a player to trade for him. The Lakers definitely could use him. But they have no player to swap unless they promote a two way player. Their only second rounder available to trade is actually this years. Iād take it for Sims, but I donāt see them doing that.
EB is right about our inability to sign Lonzo. Craig seems like he would be an easy upgrade over Shamet, who isn’t good at the one thing he’s supposed to be best at (3-pt shooting), and whose effort at everything else fluctuates wildly.
Double bang last night? Had it on mute.
Great win
I have fallen deeply in love with Amen. The kid is electric.
We really need to lose this idea that players are “terrible” because their TS% is 20-ish basis points below league average. Houston is 32-17 and Jalen Green plays major minutes. There’s literally nothing “tank commanderish” or “terrible” about him. Virtually everyone here can write and think well enough to move off that kind of thing.
In terms of the game, a big part of my purpose in going was to Catch Up With the Houston Rockets but of course that couldn’t happen because their all-star starting center and point guard didn’t play. So instead of the Real Rockets, we got the Fun Rockets — and they’re very fun. Fun …. and when winning time came, desperately in need of adult supervision. Big possessions neither organized nor executed well.
OTOH, the Knicks have a tentpole superstar and in typical association form, the tentpole superstar won the game for them with great execution on the big possessions. Quintessential example of the template.
I’d definitely take a flier on Craig, he’s listed at 6’7″ and it’s hard to believe he could worse than Shamet.
I’m so desperate for bench help you could convince me about Duarte too! š
Knicks liked Duarte in the draft and I believe we were in discussions to trade for him at some point. He’s also injury-prone, not very good, and already closer to retirement than his rookie season. But almost everyone on the buyout market is bad.
Jalen Green’s true shooting percentage this season is roughly 10 points higher than Julius Randle’s career Knick true shooting percentage. At 27.2 USG.
Jalen Green is a very athletic, very toolsy player. It’s possible that he eventually falls just a *little* short in several areas and thereby will never fully realize the very high ceiling his tools give him. He may never shoot *quite* well enough; his handle might always be not *quite* at the level you’d like to see; he may never *fully* refine his athleticism such that he’s always a *bit* too straightforward and straight line when on the move(*), etc. Right now that where he is and those are the next steps for him if he’s ever going to make a big leap.
But there are a lot of tools and talents there. We shall see. That’s why they play the games. Dude’s 22.
(*) Meaning he’s not quite balanced and ready for the next move (**) enough after he moves fast. If Jalen Brunson is a 10 in gathering on balance after a quick, hard move in a particular direction and readying himself for the next basketball move and having the footwork and spatial dexterity to make that move, Jalen Green is probably a 4. He is in no way, shape, or form “crafty.” He is the anti-craft. That said, very few players are Jalen Brunson in this area.
(**) Unless that move is in the same direction he’s already going.
***Sometimes I wonder whether E gets paid by the asterisk***
Correction: Jalen Green’s TS% this year is one basis point higher than Julius Randle’s career Knick TS%. Doesn’t change any point or conclusion, but wanted to be clear.

I’ve given you more up votes than the Knicks had 3pt makes in the first 16mins of last night’s game
it was only single bang owen but i swear if you listen closely there was an inkling
Tommy Beer had a nice clip package of Brunson’s five fg run. I think #2 is my favorite although the three was enormous.
https://x.com/TommyBeer/status/1886786772333420675
He’s pretty good our Jalen. Jalen Green, ehh. He seems like a solid player. Is his defense any good?
I don’t know, there are a lot of guys that can do what he does for far less than what he is going to get paid. Amen is the guy to build around.
Jalen G feels kind of like Cam Payne + to me
Is it that he’s terrible, or that Mikal Bridges has really stepped up his point of attack defense and screen navigation over the last month or so? Ja looked awful against us, too, and we know how talented that guy is.
“it was only single bang owen but i swear if you listen closely there was an inkling”
100% true, and I was thinking the same thing as I watched the replay of the last minutes of the game.
One thing that struck me after first hearing the call on the radio and then watching the replay with Breen and Clyde is how incredibly awesome Breen is at conveying the excitement of the moment compared to whoever was doing the the game on the radio broadcast (Tyler Murray?)
I have vague memories of Breen doing radio broadcasts, and always felt that radio guys do the best work when they have to paint a picture for fans who can’t watch the game in the moment. Yet Breen is my favorite ever in being able to do a close version of his radio call without stepping all over the viewing experience, in fact, even enhancing it.
I might try “listening” to the Breen-Clyde call without watching the game, just to see how close it is to producing the visual effect of a radio call. I can’t imagine it being any worse than a typical radio play-by-play call.
The biggest issue with Jalen Green is not if he shoots too much or how inefficient he is, is how little improvement he has shown now that he’s in year 4. I get that he’s still only 22, but all his numbers look the same as they were in his rookie season, same shot profile, low assists, low rebounds, doesn’t really get to the line, doesn’t defend particularly well. Improvement is obviously not linear in sports specially with a guy who was drafted so young, but he’s about the same player he was when he was 18 and that is definitely cause for concern.
Jalen Green, like LaMelo Ball, is a spectacular but incomplete player. There are glaring holes in their games that are maddening because of the extreme level of talent. Is it an IQ thing? Stubbornness? Immaturity?
Whatever, I certainly wouldn’t want either of them on a max deal.
I first started following the team in the first Riley season, and at the time, Breen and Clyde were the radio team, and Marv Albert and John Andariese were the TV guys. Breen was obviously a lot younger then, and Marv was a legend (before becoming a disgrace). But it’s shocking to me that it took so long for franchise living legend Clyde to get promoted over to the TV side of things.
Green got off 22 shots, almost all of them good and was 1 for 8 from deep. Had little to do with Mikal. (Nor did he look “awful” in any way, premise fail.)
He was also banged up. Wasn’t moving great from about the middle of the first quarter, spent the rest of his bench time with his knee/lower hamstring in a big wrap doing a bunch of walking band stuff with the Rockets’ trainers, occasionally grimacing.
His OBPM is up from minus-0.5 as a rookie to 1.3 this year.
The game was pure association comfort food, little meaning. Knicks were without a starter, Houston was down fully three starters. Quality night of NBA basketball, confirmation of tentpole-ness, good Knicks win in the moment. Little more.
Didn’t Gilbert Arenas on his podcast last year say that Jalen Green was better than Brunson?
Nah it’s that Green sucks.
…and so does RJ.
“ā¦and so does RJ”
Curb your dog and don’t feed the troll.
Last night was a meaningless game but if Raptors beat the Knicks tonight it will be a very meaningful game!
I’m eager to watch what this trade deadline will bring to the League.
In a sismic weekend three teams already moved their most recognizable players (Luka, Fox, LaVine) and one its second (AD) but with names like Butler, KD and others swirling around (even LeBron!) plus the looming consequences of the new CBA, this couple of days could end with a bang or with a whimper.
I heard it in my mind, milo
Jalen Green is tasked with doing a lot of shot creation on a team that has poor spacing. Heās probably not going to be a star player heās already a pretty useful player for a good team.
Hate to argue with E (not), but here’s Macri with a different take, talking about Mikal:
‘Through it all, he never quit. His primary assignment, Jalen Green, finished with 21 points on 22 shots to go with four assists and six turnovers. He was a minus-22 for the game while Mikal was a team-high plus-29 in 39 minutes.’
Not really a take against Green, and I’m rather agnostic — rather, a take for Bridges and his hard work last night.
Green is sort of interesting to me. How much worse is he than De’Aaron Fox? I just can never tell why one of these guys is considered so much better than another.
Watched the highlights. It’s amazing we won this game. Also amazing, how much taller Hahn is than Darren Erman.
I kind of think Jalen Brunson is the best iso-scorer in the NBA. I hate hero-ball generally but with Jalen, I am mostly ok with it. He just performs magic. It’s incredible the seams and space he finds and exploits.
Everyone contributed though. Big buckets from Towns, Hart, Bridges. Brunson had a big steal and drew a huge charge too.
I don’t know if Breen was thinking about a second bang but there was something tremulous and beautiful right at the end of the g.
I grew up listening to Breen and Clyde on the FAN and yeah, not sure I would be the fan I am without them.
Also, what happened between Hahn and Jalen in the postgame interview? Why did he say “effing @#$hole”, all playful of course.
Believe Brunson cursed cause Hart slapped him on his ass.
Ok, he did a good job because he never enters the frame.
It’s a thing with Hart and JB, been going on for weeks.
Last night was the kind of game we expected from Bridges when we traded for him. 22 points, some very timely hoops in the 4th quarter, and solid defense all game with 2 blocks and a steal.
I would like to see him be more consistent with three pointers, but I think the most important thing is we’re not talking about where’s that plus defender we thought we were getting. He’s been pretty damn good on that end lately.
Celts @ Cavs tonight, Celts at full strength, Cavs with Okoro and Wade out. I expect the Celts to try to make a statement in this one. I don’t think they care all that much about home court in the theoretical ECF matchup with the Cavs, but it’s not nothing and this game will either make the Cavs’ lead insurmountable or cut it to 4.5 with a chance to win the tiebreaker at home on February 28.
RJ is out tonight with a concussion.
“RJ is out tonight with a concussion.”
if only
Sucks for RJ
https://www.si.com/nba/raptors/toronto-raptors-say-rj-barrett-has-entered-league-concussion-protocols
Sorry, just trying to fit in.
Truthfully I was worried about tonight especially after having to expend a ton of energy in the 2nd half last night but I still think Knicks will find a way to win tonight.
As much as we like to rag on him RJ being out definitely helps the Knicks.
It is ridiculous how well coached OKC, Houston, and Memphis are. OKC gets talked about because they’ve been at the top of the league this past season and a half. But Taylor Jenkins and Ime Udoka need to be talked up more. They are both doing outstanding jobs. Much better than Thibs and I think Thibs is great. Houston could have and probably should have beat us, but Brunson wouldn’t let us die. Thank God we have a Brunson lol. KAT is reverting to his old ways on defense, and I wonder if his legs are tired. I really hope we can blow Toronto out tonight so the starters can get a breather.
Question- has Hukporti finally beat out Sims? Or do we think last night was Thibs experimenting?
I did notice Huk in the boxscore. Any opinions from his time on the court, as I missed it?
Had a recent concussion experience — little Raven snowboarding. He progressively got worse over a week, we finally took him in and they gave him what they called a ‘headache cocktail’ intravenously, which made him sleepy but also made him entirely better the next day.
Proving what we adults all know — cocktails cure almost anything…
Also, concussions are nothing to mess around with.
Hukporti was active and noticeable and doing things the entire time he was in the game. Unfortunately, one of those things was to commit fouls
I think Thibs used Hukporti to get more offense on the second unit than with Sims now that they would play along with Precious instead of OG. I couldnāt watch the game but my impression from the box store and from comments here is that it didnāt wonāt very well from an offense point of view. This is all speculation on my part.
Huk and Precious were a catastrophe as a pairing
one of the things that stuck out to me in yesterday’s game was just how much back and forth was going on with the refs…
more than a few times josh and jalen were putting hands on them or just joking around…
Dallas trading Grimes to Philly for Caleb Martin.
grimes for martin is a very weird trade. like a challenge trade diet version for you bullhorns who like to shout it out but never hammered the line a day in your life you know who you are.
(NOT) BREAKING NEWS š
Caleb Martin to the Dallas Mavericks
OAKAAK Quentin Grimes and a 2nd to the Sixers
“As much as we like to rag on him RJ being out definitely helps the Knicks.”
I take it that you are not in the “Clank Barrett Sucks” camp…otherwise this makes no sense.
Journeyman Grimes
I don’t think RJ is very good but he’s not a scrub and he’s one of Toronto’s best players.
re-watching the game now…
thought i had noticed some kind of wrapping on one of KAT’s fingers yesterday…
looks like it is on his left ring finger…
Isn’t Grimes better than Martin? I guess maybe the Mavs think Grimes won’t work without Luka? Weird trade of two guys who are just guys
Good afternoon, fellow Knickerbloggers!!!
I feel cheated that we are not riding a 7-game win streak into Toronto tonight because of that ridiculous loss to LeLakers. Damn.
Grimes rejected a 3-years/27M extension before the season and will be a RFA at season end.
Interesting situation and maybe a bad bet from his agent, we’ll see.
Re: RJ
He’s not a superstar or maybe even a star, he was maddingly inconsistent in New York and he’ll always bear the weight that comes from his draft spot, but he’s the Raptors’ 2nd offensive option, a big part their offense and they are happy with him.
So yeah, his absence is good for the Knicks (and erases one of the two potential revenge games we could have faced).
I wish him a quick and full recovery from the concussion (always worrisome).
Didn’t Mikal significantly roll his ankle last night?
dallas didn’t want to pay luka, seems they didn’t want to pay grimes either…
it was a full roll, looked like that bone that protrudes on the side of his ankle touched the floor…
mikal is just a different kind of guy, crazy genetics…
Bridges, Hart, and Towns are all listed on the injury report as probable; I’ve never seen Bridges on it before. Hart is playing; that’s a given. (That’s as fake as the Lakers putting LeBron and AD on the injury report for every single game.) I can’t imagine Mikal breaking his streak unless he really, really has to. Maybe KAT will be the sacrificial lamb tonight, and maybe Poeltl will toast us. Hope not.
Mikal is the offspring of the Wizard of Oz’s Scarecrow and the Spinners’ Rubberband Man.
i believe last night Breen said Bridges never missed a high school, college or pro game in his career…
This is in response to Nico Harrison claiming that Kidd didn’t know about the Luka trade until it was completed:
The issue with Bridges’ streak is that he’ll probably some token minutes to keep it alive that are at best ineffective and at worst risking a more serious injury
Confirmed then that they chose Kidd over Luka. Speaks volumes.
ah, so it was jason kidd who was in cohoots with adam silver to create buzz and nba interest in having luka go to LA…
“The issue with Bridgesā streak is that heāll probably some token minutes to keep it alive that are at best ineffective and at worst risking a more serious injury”
He could literally check in for 30 seconds at the end of the first half. There’s no way in hell I see it going down that way, but it *could*.
like the guy from the Unbreakable movie who never got sick or hurt…pretty unique…
Note Jeff BRIDGES played the lead in Fearless, a movie about a guy who survived an airplane crash and other crazy circumstances and was basically indestructible,
Cosmic significance?
way to ease in to the thread after last evenings, uh – flood of odd negative perspectives…
maybe not now – but what i’m really interested to dig in to, is this trait of yours which seems to make you impervious to criticism from other individuals or even group disapproval…
we actually have a few folks here whom don’t seem so concerned with going with the group/community flow…
normally a trait i would greatly praise, because seriously, fuck every one else…we each get our own ticket to the life game, enjoy it as you will…
however, being here for some years now has kind of taught me that maybe it’s not always so beneficial to others to constantly partake in your own counter programming…
particularly when it includes pissing on everyone else’s day, which occasionally gets combined with the preening of self…which is kind of gross…like a monkey at the zoo whom can’t keep their hands off of themselves…

Wait. Merab Dvalishvili is the name that is spelled *correctly*? Good going, geo. š Next thing you know we’ll be spelling Sandro Mamukelashvili’s (very similar; are those two from the same place?) name correctly, too. Died and gone to Heaven.
EDIT: Yep, they are both from the Georgian Republic. Isn’t that where everyone eats yogurt and lives to be 110 years old?
hi doogie, have you had an opportunity to study “language”, history of it, roots of different languages…a different kind of coding…

Nuh uh, geo. Nothing formal, anyway.
For tonight I’m hoping IQ goes off for 35, we win wire-to-wire by 25, and Huk gets two dunks and a lovely baby hook, with Sims sitting in prep for trading him for Terance Mann…
Lordy. Terance Mann is a pretty decent player, but IMHO is not at all what we are seeking. (But then again, maybe you weren’t saying otherwise, in the first place.)

We got a tight one here…
Charlotte’s protected pick: Hornets > Knicks > Hawks > Spurs > Kings
Quentin Grimes: Knicks > Pistons > Mavericks > Sixers
Bill Simmons and Kirk Goldsberry had a good conversation about how unlikely it was the LeBron didn’t know about the trade, too.
geo laying down the truth…
Doogie, actually I was just regurgitating a take from The Athletic from their latest rankings (we’re still fifth and in Tier 1) that also includes one player each team could trade for. I know little about Terance except you should be mad about how he spells his name, but a somewhat lengthy defensive wing presence off the bench isn’t too terrible an idea. Basically a maybe better, slightly bigger Shamet, he’s mediocre at shooting threes but so is Shamet these days…
But again, not my take. Just sharing.
Martin seems slightly better than Grimes but heās also 29 instead of 24 years old. Martin is listed as a small forward and Grimes as a shooting guard but they are either the same height or only an inch apart. Grimes actually makes less money but is a restricted free agent at the end of the season while Martin is signed through the ā27-ā28 season. Iām really not sure why Dallas made the trade. From Phillieās point of view it looks like a good deal. They get a replacement for Martin, they get their own second round pick back and they reduce their tax bill.
I don’t see the point behind Grimes for Martin. I’d rather have Grimes.
more of a known league commodity, making around 9.5 mil for this year and the next 2, versus, i wanna get paid quentin grimes…
thank goodness they shed themselves of: i was gonna get paid luka doncic…
probably the same reason knicks moved him…
just noticed AD is only signed through next season…
more and more i’m thinking this is owner directed…
Geo with the right of it.
If there is one lesson in life that you can take to the bank. Itās way more important to wash your hands before you go to the bathroom. Especially in public places like airports.
This is kinda fucked even for Butler:
āJimmy Butler has blocked trade options to multiple contending teams where he would have been a good fit on the floor and potentially been paid. But Butler has been obsessed with joining the Phoenix Suns, who may be completely incapable of trading for him due to the need to find a trade of Bradley Beal.ā via Windhorst.
The Butler/Beal situation is ridiculous.
Maybe Butler can give Beal some Bitcoin to wave his NT Clause. š
This is the kind of situation Bitcoin was designed for. It’s a way for serious gamblers, drug/sex traffickers, gun runners, terrorists and other assorted riff-raff to move money around outside the banking system. Let’s just add Butler to the list and get this trade deadline moving again. š

2 Klay Thompson, Max Christie
3 PJ Washington, Caleb Martin
4 Anthony Davis, Naji Marshall
5 Derrick Lively, Dan Gafford
I still hate the trade but I like that team a lot.
There’s no way a team that traded Luka and lost Brunson for nothing should be that good.
actually pags, i got a better one…
i knew this thing once as a water buffalo…it’s about a 400 gallon tank on a trailer, generally used as a company sized (120 or so folks) army asset…location dependent, normally each person needs 1 to 6 gallons a day for use…
you’re together wherever, sharing precious water from the water buffalo and using it to drink, clean, make coffee with, whatever…
it’s like you are getting up on top of the water buffalo, opening the lid there and pissing right in to it…
please pags, stop relieving yourself in our shared water source…treat the water buffalo with a little more respect please…
“please pags, stop relieving yourself in our shared water sourceā¦”
This is rough coming from geo, who along with cybersoze is one of the most affable posters we have on here.
Cuban was a disaster in recent years. Then Nico took over and turned things around in a way I found shocking. I saw little hope for a quick turnaround. In fact, I thought Doncic was going to get pissed off and leave. But he pulled it off.
Now we have this Doncic deal????
So what do we make of it?
Was his flurry of very good deals just luck?
Did he get forced into this by new ownership that didn’t want to pay Doncic the super max given his conditioning and injuries?
Does he know something about Doncic we don’t know?
Is Kidd somehow involved?
I guess the Mavs traded Grimes for the same reason we did-they don’t want to pay him next year
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
As geo said…….
Yeah, that Kyrie guy turned out to be a pretty good buy-low candidate after all.
If anything, I suspect it’s something he knows about AD. Maybe it’s just Luka’s atrocious defense, which makes it difficult to truly contend. But I’m not buying them as contenders now either. I consider last year’s run a fluke. There’s a reason most runner-ups don’t win the next year.
Re: Grimes
RAPM liked Caleb more than Grimes heading into this year (I’m not seeing more recent updates), but Caleb hasn’t had a great year. I suspect leaving Spo has something to do with that.
On the other hand, the box-score AIOs like Grimes quite a bit more and he’s a much better shooter.
You don’t see too many teams sellout on rookies for vets when it feels like a coin-flip to make them better. Idk, Philly’s 2nd projects to be 37, which isn’t terrible.
Yeah, Dallas will continue to be good. That doesn’t excuse the handling of the Doncic situation, which remains one of the worst trades of all time.
This was probably not the best week for the Thunder.
A week ago I thought maybe Denver could challenge them in the West, and that’s it. Memphis and Houston are good but it’s too soon.
Now they might get a Wemby/Fox team in round 1, then Luka and LeBron in round 2! Or that nasty looking Dallas team that I absolutely would want nothing to do with this year.
I still can’t believe the Spurs gave up so little for Fox. They still have the Hawks unprotected first this year with Jalen Johnson out. I think the league should just conspire to tank against the Hawks.
I donāt think it was wrong of Dallas to not make it public to all the teams that he was thinking of trading Doncic. Sometimes itās better to do that. The Knicks did it with Porzingis, and I think it was for similar reasons. But the price the Knicks got for KP was probably fair. The price Dallas got for Doncic was unreasonably low.
seems like Dallas lost out on including dalton knecht and the 2031 1st round pick…
even if they made first contact AND wanted to keep things quiet, should have gotten at least one of those assets…
AD did waive his 6 million dollar trade bonus…so there’s that i suppose…
Jaylin Williams with 13 and 7 (5-of-9 shooting) in 26 minutes off the Thunder bench last night.
I’d want nothing to do with that Dallas team over a 7-game playoff series. No need for the three-point variance they had last year. Long, potentially great defense, deep, two superstars.
Caveat, health of course.
Kidd pretty clearly detested Luka. Shocking he “won,” that almost never happens.
It was truly remarkable negotiation by Pelinka. He used Nicoās own reluctance to pay Luka against him and tricked him into thinking he was taking on all the risk in the deal.
Same with San Antonio. They gave up one thing (the Wolves ā31 pick) that they wanted to keep for Fox. One thing!! Thatās what happens when youāre willing to walk away.
Noble, who I respect a lot, always tells me āLeon got the guy, Iām not going to give him grief bc he could have negotiated better.ā
Well I am!!! Itās the one thing Iāve always hated about him. Being a good negotiator is probably the single most important thing I want from my GM. And Leon sucks at it (the KAT heist notwithstanding).
Pelinka is as mid a GM as Iāve ever seen but he should walk into the hall of fame on the first ballot just based on how well he negotiated this deal.
Just going to note this before the game thread goes up — something I wrote to a sports-agnostic friend this morning about why I’m enjoying the Knicks:
Mostly because their short, slow, stocky captain is somehow able to make layup after layup against multiple guys a foot taller and almost infinitely more athletic than he is, often to the tune of 40 points or more a game. Itās sort of impossible to believe even while watching it happen.
Cognitive dissonance
Hart, Towns, and Bridges all starting, along with Achiuwa.
I wouldn’t mind a The Precious Revenge Game here.
I predict a blowout win. We will shoot 50%+ from 3 and jump out to a double digit lead in late Q1 or Q2 behind a flurry of ill-advised shots that go in from Payne and/or Deuce.
