Before the inevitable (and justifiable) kvetching about the team —

I’d just like to say thanks for this board, the organizer/s, and the whip smart posters who consistently offer lovely rhetorical diversions that vary my days a little bit.

I hope you all have safe and successful years ahead. Happy Thanksgiving.

Yes, co-signed. In this time of information chaos, fake and lies, this board is an example of evidence based, discussion based methodology for finding a good enough truth. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

    Repost:

This team is getting too frustrating for me. I can appreciate all the talent, but if you don’t defend, the game turns into a high variance 3 point shooting contest. You can beat or lose to anyone like that. The Mavs have a terrific team, but when Doncic is out, we are supposed to beat them. We scored 114 points and still got our asses kicked without Doncic in the lineup. That formula is not going to work. Either the defense has to step up soon or a significant change will have to be made. I have some ideas, but we know nothing is going to happen until they get a look at the team with Precious and Mitch. That can’t happen soon enough because I’m getting sick of these no D players other than OG.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Very happy to have missed yesterday’s game. This is quickly becoming one of my least favorite teams. I can’t stand the lack of defense regardless of how our offense looks when it clicks. The promise just makes the letdowns worse.

Mikal Bridges, feel free to step up at any time. He’s on the Fournier career trajectory.

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I am very thankful for this fun and interesting team and this community to share it with.

Mikal Bridges, feel free to step up at any time. He’s on the Fournier career trajectory.

It’s not all his fault, but Bridges is a problem.

If we traded him for a package of DDV, filler and a pick or two, it would be fine. You sit through a bit of a slump shooting, realize he’s not the stopper you thought he was and try to figure out what to do next.

Does Towns have to move to PF with Mitch at C?

Do we have to trade for a 3&D rim protecting PF to pair next to Towns?

Do we trade Bridges for a legitimate wing stopper?

That 3rd option is not really an option. We went close to all in on that trade. IMO we can’t recover even close to what we gave up for him and we can’t play him off the bench. That would be a huge embarrassment for management and hurt his value further.

IMO, the mistake wasn’t getting either Bridges or Towns, it was getting Bridges AND Towns.

We already had Brunson & OG as #1 and #3 scorer. We only needed to add one scorer. We needed a C badly, so I can see going for Towns. But if you do add Towns, you don’t need another 20 point scorer that will be underutilized and not play elite D. You need an elite defender that brings some other things to the table.

For example, Kessler and Bridges might have worked better than Towns and Bridges even though Towns is a much better player than Kessler.

If you bring in Towns, then maybe a Jonathon Isaac or even an Alex Caruso type works better than Bridges.

Unless Bridge wakes up defensively (which to me at this point is more important than his 3 point shot) we have a team construction issue that will have to be addressed. I think management, as well as a lot of other people (including me), overestimated what Bridges brings to the table defensively.

    Happy Thanksgiving Knickerblogger Community!

One of the things I give thanks for is that this roster is different from last Thanksgiving’s roster. If it was the same all this season’s past and future posts wouldn’t be half as interesting.

    Happy Thanksgiving to All!

If you didn’t watch the games or know the scores and who was in and out, i.e. just followed the standings, going 2-2 in these past 4 games is probably a reasonable outcome. So there’s that!

It’s more about the way we’re losing in the games we lose. Seems like we’ve become a team that is nearly entirely dependent on 3-pt variance.

I will keep saying it until proven wrong: our losses are going to look like this so long as KAT is at the 5. He is a woefully bad paint protector, period. Like Bargnani-Kanter-Amare bad. He’ll make a few plays based on his size and length, but the instincts and fast-twitch reactions just aren’t there. No amount of perimeter D is going to cover for that.

Thanks to everyone here for tolerating me! And I suppose I should be especially thankful to Brian for not banning me when I’ve gotten close to the edge. Thanks Mike K for keeping this up. And thanks to everyone who provides the content that lets me escape when I need to.

Lastly, thank you to OG Anunoby for always following his best performances with god almighty stinkers. Every time I feel like it’s time to get the diamond-crusted L necklace (and I was getting fitted after Denver), you always manage to turn in a 3-15 performance with less defensive impact than my Aunt Mary.

    OG Anunoby

    Mikal Bridges

Extra-special Thanksgiving wishes to the Department of Redundancy Department!!

If you bring in Towns, then maybe a Jonathon Isaac or even an Alex Caruso type works better than Bridges.

Bridges for Isaac is actually a very interesting trade idea. Their salaries are almost perfect fits. I’ve shied away from it for two reasons:

    1. I’m afraid of how good it would make Orlando. With Suggs alleviating Bridges’ defensive duties at the POA, Bridges would be able to play a more suitable free safety role on defense. And when the offense eventually comes back, a Suggs-Bridges-Wagner-Banchero foursome would be incredibly balanced and terrifying.

    2. Isaac is always injured and can’t be counted on.

Bonus reason: It seems like Isaac is a dick.

If you could expand it and get back Isaac and Wendell Carter, I might be interested. That would probably cost us Bridges, Mitch, and a kicker like Dadiet, though. I feel like we could do better than Isaac and Carter for that package.

I wasn’t a big fan of the Leon Rose hire. Figured he’d be the next in line of a parade of failed Knick GMs. He’s already done more than I thought he would.

May have already hit his ceiling though, and it’s not a particularly high ceiling.

    Happy turkey day…..

Haven’t watched much lately…too early to get all worked up…let’s get on the ledge post all star break if the team is still treading water…

Bridges is now sitting at -2.5 BPM. Worse than:

    Bargnani’s two seasons with us
Every RJ Barret season since age 22
    Every Quentin Grimes season
All of Bojan Boganovic’s career except his 557 minutes for us last year
Every year of Evan Fournier’s career from age 22-29
13 of 14 years of Alec Burks’ career
    Kemba Walker’s year with us

    Catastrophic.

Despite my bitching during game threads I’m very grateful for the Yankees and Knicks!

If my calculations are correct, and they are always correct, Jonathan Isaac has made $21,000 per minute played. (Anybody know the alltime highest per minute bank?)

(Anybody know the alltime highest per minute bank?)

If we’re just talking value on the free agent deals they signed, Jerome James has to be up there. He might have provided good value on his pre-Knicks rookie deal, though.

I have been intentionally avoiding the M word this season but I think it’s fair to wonder what impact this workload is having on our inconsistent performances. So many times someone will lament poor effort or lack of urgency, but what if it’s just fatigue?

Mikal is leading the league with 38.3 mpg. Hart is 5th at 37.2. OG is 9th at 36.6. And these are hard minutes. Every second they are out there they are scampering to cover for Brunson and Towns on defense.

Our guys have gone through a postseason already before Thanksgiving. Maybe that’s why sometimes a fresh team comes out and spanks us like Utah and Dallas did.

Bonus reason: It seems like Isaac is a dick.

I am curious why you feel that way. He seems the perfect compliment to KAT for 18MPG when healthy from an on the floor perspective…. great rim protector… good rebounder…. top on the ball and help defender…. doesn’t need the ball to be effective.

Why exactly would ORL, who is better than us and a conference rival, trade one of the players that makes them better than us for one of the players that makes us worse than them?

Do they need a 3&D guy who a broken shot who can’t guard anyone as much as we need a rim protecting, floor spacing big (i.e. the most valuable player archetype in the league)?

We’d be lucky to get a single 1RP for Bridges at this point, let alone an elite defensive big who has hovered around 4 BPM the last two years. Today is Thanksgiving, not Christmas.

Ignoring guys who never played a minute in the NBA, I found the following since 2000:

Royce White earned $191,053 per minute
Troy Bell earned $121,911 per minute
Zhaire Smith earned $40,628 per minute

I am curious why you feel that way.

I’ve read stories about him having difficult interpersonal relationships with teammates and other NBA players. Don’t know how valid they are, hence the “seems like” qualifier.

I’ve read stories about him having difficult interpersonal relationships with teammates and other NBA players. Don’t know how valid they are, hence the “seems like he may be” qualifier.

Could you link to one of those stories? I Googled “Jonathan Isaac difficult interpersonal relationships with teammates and other NBA players.” and found nothing but sportswriter’s and media opinions. The only things I know about him other than his play on the floor and injury history are: he is a (devout)Christian, he has a clothing line, didn’t get vaccinated and didn’t kneel during the George Floyd stuff.

    First off…Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

While I was disgusted by the team’s effort defensively, I’m still patient. This team still hasn’t quite jelled- nor do we have all of our rotation available. I thought the offense had jelled at least, but I’m starting to think our offensive improvement is only a product of guys’ skill sets and shooting efficiency.amd that’s because I’m wondering about how to best use Anunoby and Bridges on offense. No one expected OG to play this well offensively. Everyone thought Bridges would be 2nd or 3rd option. KAT didn’t really change things for him because he would have likely been 3rd option with Randle here. Granted- shots that Bridges usually makes aren’t falling- including free throws! But sometimes it looks like Bridges is having a hard time adjusting with Hart and OG playing so well with the ball in their hands. I mean- is he the new OG Anunoby once he’s back to defensive form? And by that I mean a nearly 50/40/90 guy averaging 14/5/4 with 2 steals? If so, are we ok with that? Or do we risk starting 5 chemistry and versatility by starting Mitch or Achiuwa in place of Hart once they’re ready? Personally I like the current starting group because the spacing and unselfishness has made every member better except Bridges- even though we could use a bigger body to help with rebounding in there. What I’m thinking is Achiuwa and Mitch could help simply by being the drop guy, as we can’t afford to have Anunoby be the drop guy if KAT isn’t gonna be good enough at it. But that would completely change the offense. That conundrum is awkward for me because I’m an old school defense guy.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I don’t think Isaac’s a dick. I think he’s a hyper-religious iconoclastic weirdo. He caused a great kerfuffle by refusing to kneel during the Black Lives Matter protest the NBA did league-wide, and also refused to wear the “Black Lives Matter” tee-shirt all players wore then. His point was ““For me Black lives are supported through the gospel. All lives are supported through the gospel.”

No idea if he’s otherwise a great teammate. He seems like a hard worker on the defensive end. Hyper-religious people spook me, but that’s me (atheist, and worked a fair amount in hyper-religious countries where a lot of people wanted me dead, which was spooky).

Looking forward to that tryptophane high later…

Okay, most $ made per minute played, minimum $50,000,000 career earnings.

Isaac’s $99,000,000+ for 4800 minutes has to be close.

Just turned the football game on. Someone has gotten injured on every play since. Crazy sport

Yeah, Donnie but he’s lowering that ratio every game. Seems reasonably healthy for the time being.

Chandler Parsons played 1862 horrendous minutes for Memphis after signing a $94M contract, for a cool $50,000 per minute.

Yeah, Donnie but he’s lowering that ratio every game. Seems reasonably healthy for the time being.

Chandler Parsons played 1862 horrendous minutes for Memphis after signing a $94M contract, for a cool $50,000 per minute.

Easily beaten by our own Joakim Noah. $72m and 1055 minutes for a crisp $68,246 per minute. Sub-zero BPM and sub-50% in both TS% and FT%.

Isaac’s $99,000,000+ for 4800 minutes has to be close.

You’re counting his entire $25M salary for this year in that figure, though. The Magic have 20% of their season so only 20% ($5M) should count.

Currently he’s at 79.5M for 4,850 minutes played, an average of $16,391 per minute.

I am so pleased and delighted to tell you who his closest competition is.

    Yes, it’s Joel Embiid!

Embiid has earned $227M for 13,958 minutes, an average of $16,263 per minute. I would imagine by the end of the week he’ll have surged ahead of Isaac and will never give up the lead.

Joakim Noah played 1015 minutes for the Knicks and made ~$72.5M for $68,720/min.

    How’s it goink?

Zion at $14,250 for his career, prorating the current year. Lonzo at $8,200 for his career and over $50,000 on his current deal but just came back.

been a ghost for a bit, but I still love all of you (except fuck bobneptune)

also fuck Chet Holmgren for fucking up my 67-win prediction for OKC

also fuck Chet Holmgren for fucking up my 67-win prediction for OKC

Yeah they’re only on pace to win 64. Fucking losers

i see the giants are playing, no thanks…

the bird was brining all last evening, today tom the turkey is slowing basting away towards tryptophan perfection…

still about 2 hours before showtime and consumption of that crispy seasoned brown skin and juicy turkey meat (location 30 miles away)…

gotta get going, hope everyone is having an enjoyable day…

    gobble gobble…

LaMelo out tomorrow, good opportunity to drive up the point differential for group cup tiebreaker.

Happy Thanksgiving, good people of KB! I’m truly thankful to be a part of this great Knicks community, i hope we’ll all be here for years to come, and if it’s not too much to ask, with one or two championships would be really amazing… and much deserved!

I’ve been off and on this board since Cuttino Mobley was a Knick. I’m very thankful for the things I’ve learned about basketball here.

Thankful for that noon start time tomorrow… we came too close to talking politics a few times today.

I’d be beyond thankful if Mitch could return to something resembling the 2023 version of himself and think that a Josh Hart, Deuce, Precious, and Cam Payne bench sounds pretty damn great.

A win in Charlotte tomorrow and I would call this a successful road trip. Unfortunately, I won’t be there to witness another W.

been a ghost for a bit, but I still love all of you (except fuck bobneptune)

Ain’t it awful when something lives rent free in your so-called brain 🙂 He called me and asked how you enjoyed 11/5
