There was a dark cloud of dread hanging over KB yesterday ( see eg. Swifty), which made me reflect on just how magical this season has been, given all the injuries. Hoping for a ’69/’70 like miracle as I am not ready for the season to end. The possibilities of Hart ( he’ll play but, how can he possibly be effective) and OG ( can’t imagine him playing) lend drama to the narrative. Who will step up ala Clyde in May of ’70? Cannot say that this season hasn’t been alternately energizing and ennervating. One more surprise, please.

Ok, let’s cut the shit, regroup and advance.
We deserve to be in these ECF.
And as BradAchillesPitt said in Troy:
    Take it! It’s Yours!

My wife and I got Book of Mormon tickets a long time ago, so we’ll be there for at least the first half of the game.

Like Bo, I’m holding out hope for this improbable run to last just a little bit longer. And if Hart can play at all, given what Woj and others have said about how much it hurts to do… anything… just hang his jersey in the rafters tonight.

    Amen Bo, amen! šŸ˜‰
I always have a bad feeling about matinees, but i think that don’t apply to a game 7… let’s win this! šŸ§”šŸ’™

I love that the Mavs won that series on one of the cheapest fouls Iā€™ve ever seen yet no one in the media is covering it as controversial. I mean talk about robbery. The Pacers merely had a chance to win game 1 when Turner committed a moving screen. The Thunder had just won the game with a clean block and they stole it from them bc he nicked him on the follow through! Crazy.

Hubie I think thatā€™s because OKC hasnā€™t used that as an excuse why they lost. I havenā€™t seen any complains from them. It was an interesting call though I think Kyrie wouldā€™ve had an immediate putback it seems anyway

Congrats to Alexander Usyk, undisputed heavyweight champ, but fuck the ref for not letting him get the knockout.

    Oh, and GO KNICKS!

We absolutely deserve to advance more than the other team. Are the gods just, or just messing with us?

Yeah I didnā€™t mean to bring a dark cloud over that thread but itā€™s just the hart injury has me super bummed bc like when does it stop for us and this team if healthy could win a championship I truly believe that.

So Iā€™m just going to watch the score in my phone and if it looks like things are going well I might check in during the second half.

For me itā€™s going to take place in the middle of the night, so Iā€™m going to have to decide whether to watch the replay when I wake up without knowing the score or just check the result right away.

My hot take is donā€™t play Josh Hart. He clearly made the injury worse by playing through the pain and will probably make it even more worse playing today.

Jalen, Donte, and Hartenstein is more than enough to carry the day against a soft Pacers squad that canā€™t win away from Indiana.

Donā€™t panic. Trust your guys. Get through.

No matter what happens today this has been a great season. If healthy we would already be in the east finals but it is what it is. This team has never backed down no matter the obstacle this season. Today wonā€™t be any different and I know they can pull it out even if we have noone left standing.

Coming from the land of Leo (not fkn DiCaprio) and his 300 I’m always in peace with Loss as long as the fight is fair and wholehearted.
I’m gonna definitely watch this one Live (unless working) and Celebrate this season no matter the outcome.

An injured Hart trying to guard Siakim is not going to work out well for us. They need another solution.

No matter what happens today this has been a great season. If healthy we would already be in the east finals but it is what it is. This team has never backed down no matter the obstacle this season.

    I completely agree.

Today’s game could change this season from epic to mythical but it will not change my feelings for this guys and this team as a whole.
I’ll always be thankful for what they have done in the unluckiest (sport) circumstances.

    Let’s Go Knicks!

Another thing I’d like to see is Brunson passing the ball to Precious when he’s unguarded in the corner. Give your teammate some confidence and steal 3 points when they try that shit.

Maybe make sure Isaiah’s under the basket, though.

I think if Hart can play you have him come off the bench given his reduced state. Start Brunson, DiVo, Deuce, Precious, and Hartenstein. We should win this game at home, but itā€™s going to be a struggle. It would be *really* nice if OGā€™s hamstring were accommodating.

    Going.

Knicks are up from -2.5 to -3.5, which most likely is a movement based on OG more likely playing. That said, I spent most of the glorious Sunday of Game 7 Rangers/Penguins two years ago looking at the sportsbooks trying to figure out if Sidney Crosby and other injured Penguins were likely to play. The books leaned against them playing but of course warmups started, there they were, and they all played.

    Already nervous.

If OG can give us 15 min of defense Iā€™ll take it. He doesnā€™t need to sprint up and down court.

I love that the Mavs won that series on one of the cheapest fouls Iā€™ve ever seen yet no one in the media is covering it as controversial.

    You’re right Hubie,
maybe by the letter of the law it was a foul and SGA owned his (bad) mistake in the post game presser, but it’s unfortunate that the game was decided on a call of this kind.

And nowhere near the wave of indignation from the media you would’ve expected if other teams were involved…

Pat Riley said a series doesnā€™t start until the home team loses

So letā€™s hope this series never starts!

Yeah Iā€™ll be proud of this team no matter the outcome today. My hope is that a few years down the road weā€™ll all look at this season as the year before the year.

Congrats to Alexander Usyk, undisputed heavyweight champ, but fuck the ref for not letting him get the knockout.

It was the correct call, though. If the ropes are the only thing holding you up, that is considered a knockdown and you get an eight count. Clearly Fury would have left his feet if not for the ropes.

The knockdown call also ended up winning Usyk the fight by making the 9th an automatic 10-8 round. Without that 10-8 round the third judge would have had a 114-114 card and the fight would have been a draw.

Also Tyson Fury is an asshole.

The Thunder had just won the game with a clean block

I apparently have no idea what a foul is – dude basically jumped on Washington there as he was shooting, AFAICT. If you touch the ball first now you can apparently do whatever you want to the body of the shooter? I don’t get it.

But good point that the Thunder didn’t make a point of complaining about how the refs stole anything from them. In this day and age, that’s worth appreciating.

SGA got all ball on PJā€™s shot attempt, but then on PJā€™s double pump prayer they called him for nicking him on the arm. It was a pretty cheap call that decided the series, nowhere near as egregious as Turnerā€™s illegal pick.

Bottom line is the media doesnā€™t report what they see, they just bark when master tells them to bark. The Thunder showed class, but the media only rewards the likes of Embiid, Nurse, Turner, and Carlisle when they show none of it.

Mavs for the most part got ripped more than a bit for their deadline moves, but they turned out to have had one of the best deadlines in modern association history.

It was the correct call, though.

Debatable. Fury was backpedaling pretty well and imo hamming it up a bit, but yeah, Usyk himself was just happy to get the win, all business.

I donā€™t hate Fury, but itā€™s nice to have a champ with great technique and agility again.

FWIW all the talk Iā€™ve heard around OKC is they need a a big who can protect the rim and rebound.

Hereā€™s hoping they address that through the draft and not free agency.

Pat Riley said a series doesnā€™t start until the home team loses

So letā€™s hope this series never starts!

    Hear, hear!
    (Here, here!)

FWIW all the talk Iā€™ve heard around OKC is they need a a big who can protect the rim and rebound.

Maybe Chet can gain 100 pounds?

I just hope Mr. Kourtney Kellar prefers the big city. What’s a dozen million or so at the end of the day?

No matter what happens today this has been a great season.

    +1

What’s on everyone’s hype soundtrack today?

I’m blasting Scary Goldings IV dominated by the raw genius of John Scofield (who just may be the Clyde Frazier of guitar).

Party on, gents. See you in the game thread.

Brunson has already put himself in the convo for top Knicks ever but if he puts in a masterpiece today and we win he would secure legendary status.

Woj says both OG and Hart are “on course” to play. I think we all expected that, it’s more a question of how effective they’ll be, almost certainly playing hurt in both cases.

Both injuries are definitely gonna hamper those two, but I guess 50% of Hart and OG is still better than other options

I know Larry Goldings a little bit. Genius player.

He does this duo thing with a tap dancer Melinda Sullivan who is also kind of a part of the music scene I hang with sometimes. Sheā€™s a brilliant dancer, has the rhythmic timing of a very good percussionist. This performance of theirs is joyous. Larry on piano and Moog bass

    https://youtu.be/VkMTEWNHP0M?si=s9K_3EMS6NbSCORw

OKC could have tried not blowing a 17 point lead if they didn’t want to lose on a somewhat cheap foul, nobody but SGA made any shots in the 2nd half for them.

both OG and Hart are ā€œon courseā€ to play […] almost certainly playing hurt in both cases

This is totally moving. Win or lose, this team is great.

Yeah, you gotta admire the guts of these guys, both planning to play while not really healthy.

@JK47 — Ha! Thanks for that link. I got to Goldings from the Sco side, so I didn’t really know much about him (my ignorance).

From what I’ve seen online, and in that vid you sent with Melinda, Larry seems to live art daily without some big dividing line between life and Performance (capital P!). Maybe that’s real, maybe just a curated persona, but I totally love it. Thx, again.

I was toying with the idea of not watching this one but, since it could be the last game of the season, did a 180 and am now fully committed to watching every second. These guys deserve it.

Steal My Sunshine couple times, Nas Illmatic, then undecided, then assorted TBD Public Enemy on the subway.

How can some of you guys seriously not want to watch this game on purpose??

How can some of you guys seriously not want to watch this game on purpose??

They’ll miss a million miles of fun.

Iā€™m drinking either way this Sunday afternoon but here to hoping itā€™s celebratory drinks!

Itā€™s been an incredible season and I donā€™t want it to end! Go Knicks!

PS — @JK47 — I hope you know and hang with Louis Cole, too, bc that guy —- DAMN!

I’m at peace with whatever happens today. Hoping like crazy Knicks win but won’t be disappointed or mad if they lose. Will just make me even more excited for next season.

Admittedly he Yankees looking great makes the Knicks losing an easier pill to swallow, feel sorry for Knick fans who are also Mets fans lol.

Can’t imagine us winning, and losing would be accompanied by a palpable sense if relief as long as no further injuries happen tgat threaten next season. I am at peace with whatever happens, but do hope we win just so we can say we made ECF

Itā€™s been an incredible season no matter what. But I want to win. Letā€™s go Knicks! Do it for young sexy Thibs!

I love the quotes like “Regardless of the state of his hamstring, OG Anunoby wants to play today.”

I respect it, and the same with Hart wanting to play through the abdominal injury, but boy, it sure doesn’t sound like their best idea longterm.

But hey, if it means the Knicks make the Eastern Conference Finals in the short term, I’m all for it!

ā€œSteal My Sunshine,ā€ ā€œHow Bizarreā€ and ā€œWhen Itā€™s Overā€ would make a good mini playlist of songs that should be terrible but are actually awesome.

I donā€™t know Louis Cole or any of the Vulfpeck cats but mad respect to those guys.

Having a beer and wood fired pizza at the Raquette River Brewery in Tupper Lake NY on my way home from the North Country. Will catch the game on the radio. Also at peace with whatever the boys can give us today.

    LOVE How Bizarre.

Knicks win, Iā€™m listening to it on the subway home.

I say forget the it was a great season talk…

It’s game 7 at MSG…literally, the defionition of a must win game.

    Entire NYC needs this.

    LETS GO!!!!!

I hope the refs are listening to RATM’s Killing In The Name Of, thinking of pRick Carlisle.
F*ck you, i won’t do what you tell me!!!

OMG this is turning into Musicblogger.net again and i… love it! šŸ˜€

On my way to the game, already very nervous

If we win you guys can buy me a ticket to Boston Tuesday. šŸ˜

If we win you guys can buy me a ticket to Boston Tuesday. šŸ˜

You must get in line, Alan started the “crowdfund” for a trip+ticket first! LOL

I’m starting to get a little nervous too. At some point i lost faith that we’d be in the ECF again in my lifetime. LOL

Brian I feel like both of those injuries arenā€™t really things that are gonna hurt them long term. They arenā€™t ankle, knee, shoulder or wrist related. Both are basically bruised/sore muscles.

Fed my magic cats their favourite, wore my knicks jersey, ordered my souvlakis and opened my tv.
    Ready

I respect it, and the same with Hart wanting to play through the abdominal injury, but boy, it sure doesnā€™t sound like their best idea longterm.

Putting two injured players on the court doesnā€™t even sound like a good idea short term. I hope these guys can actually play today. Indiana is going to attack them ruthlessly if they canā€™t.

Unless this is all a ruse and theyā€™re both ready to go no problem.

If OG’s mobile enough to make defensive rotations, he will have a huge impact. We don’t need him to score 20, even 15 points for us to win. The most important impact he has is how he covers as much ground as two guys and can erase any teammate’s mistake as a help defender. He just needs to get into position and his length and size will cut off opposing drives and corral those 50/50 rebounds that the Pacers got last game. And while I’m no hamstring expert, I don’t think that stuff relies on being explosive or jumping.

If OG can get siakam off his game that would be huge. But most importantly need a great game from Brunson, he needs to be the best player on the floor. This is where great players make their mark
