Josh Hart’s rebounding spree puts him in lofty Knicks company
57 replies on “Knicks Morning News (2024.05.11)”
Brunson’s sub-par game last night was likely attributtable to the impact of his foot injury, and the Knicks’ fortunes ride in large part to how this injury will hold him back. Nice that Burks showed he could be a useful and necessary rotation piece. This team deserves the ECF and makes it in a stressful 7 games.
It’s unfortunate that there isn’t at least one break that’s an extra day off in this series. I feel like if we could play the next game on monday instead of tomorrow that would be just enough time for Brunson to feel a little better and play better.
Rick says he did his job well influencing the refs subconsciously
Agree an extra day off would help. Paper says OG def out for game 4 so we must steal it. A lot last night suggested this is indeed possible.
The kid made a tough shot. Tip your cap and get ’em tomorrow.
It could have been known as the Burks Resurrection Game*, instead it’s a frustrating, refs decided loss.
I’ve nothing to say to our guys and coach but praises and “Thank you”, you deserved better, now let’s get the next game.
* Even if he reversed back to a pumpkin in the 2nd half…
Coming from a Knicks fan, this sounds horrible- I know. But I didn’t expect a win. It was just the perfect storm of events for Indy. We’re shorthanded, and they were at home with their fans ready to feed them all the energy they needed and then some. So with that said, I’m not mad we lost. But I am disappointed. I mean- we HAD that game. I was pleasantly surprised by how much of a grip we had on the game under those conditions. I didn’t expect a blowout loss, but I thought Indy had a chance fore a close but wire to wire win. At some point the minutes, travel, uncomfortable surroundings, and injuries were going to have a larger effect.
But even with that being said, we’ve proven in these first 3 games that we are truly the better team, so I wouldn’t be shocked if we send them home in 5. I still say it goes 6, but a gentleman’s sweep feels like a 50/50 outcome at this point. I’m proud of the grit and confidence our guys are playing with. I also want to give respect to Indy. This is a REALLY good series. They are playing tough and I love it
I’m predicting Denver comes back and wins their series in 7 games.
Very rare for the home team to lose the first 2 games and win the series (last one I remember is Rockets over Suns in 1994) but the Nuggets are definitely capable and still have the best player on the planet.
I love how our team reacts to the games. No excuses.
I think that series depends on how good Anthony Edwards plays. He needs to be Jordanesque to carry Minny. If he’s just plain ol’ superstar, that might not be enough.
Looks like i made a longer than allowed comment with our player’s reactions to the game. It’s in moderation. 😮
But what i wanted to tell you is that i love this team and how we’re a no excuses team. What an amazing time to be a Knicks fan! 🧡💙
Well, with all the injuries and Brunson clearly hobbled we still only lost because of a few bad calls and a guy hitting an extremely low percentage shot, so I’m very fine with this loss. Brunson knows he made a mistake, he always owns it and moves on.
It’s just annoying because we would be absolutely pounding this team if we had anything close to our full strength, but it is what it is.
I want to be all level-headed like some of you, but I woke up this morning with a bad taste in my mouth. These bastards have gotten me so used to winning that a loss now makes me sick!
But I’m still in awe of the fight they put up to be in a position to win that game. If Brunson can heal up and we can get positive (or just not negative) contributions from Borks and Sims, we should take this series. I believe in these guys!
We’ll get a better Brunson but will it be offset by a lesser Donte and a the Alec Burks we’re accustomed to? TBD.
We scored just 8 points in the last 9:46 after taking a 9 point lead.
We have a real Sophie’s Choice at the end of games now: put Precious in and there’s less space for Brunson. Put Deuce in and we get killed on the boards (that rebound before the game-winning three went right to Deuce but he’s too small).
Given that Brunson can seemingly do anything now, I’m inclined to sit Deuce and lock down the boards with Precious.

Over the Knicks’ past four games, dating back to Game 6 vs. Philly,
Donte DiVincenzo is averaging:
27.8 points,
4.0 rebounds,
3.5 assists,
1.0 steals,
1.5 blocks
5.8 three-pointers
while shooting:
50% from the floor,
56% from 3PT range and
100% from free-throw line.
“Is Donte a starting level SG on a contender or a sixth man”
Tommy Beer
@TommyBeer
Since trading for OG Anunoby, the Knicks are:
26-5 in the 31 games OG has played (83.8% winning percentage)
13-16 in the 29 games OG has missed (44.8% winning percentage)
No one had a great game and we were right there until the end. Burks is found money. Carlisle got the whistles he was craving for “an equal shot” but needed a late game heroic to seal the win. Thibs didn’t play anyone all 48. OG got a game off to heal. More evidence they cannot defend. Knicks classy in the post-game.
All good on my end. On to game 4!
Donte?
Very happy to see Donte performing like this too, killing the narrative that he wouldn’t be able to contribute in the playoffs for good. With Indiana’s defense those shots will be there for him every game.
Donte?
7 for 11 from downtown is pedestrian for Donte…!
It feels like the team is on a knife’s edge. No wiggle room. A bunch of things must go right to win.
Brunson has to feel better (and make better decisions, sorry Jalen).
Donte has to continue to be en fuego.
Both Burps and Deuce have to deliver.
Those are the big question marks. I’m not worried about Hart, or iHart, or even Precious. They should be able to continue to do what they do. It’s those other three (four) questions that will decide things. If they’re yes across the board, we should beat these guys in five. If not, a lot of other results may occur…
There is an extra day off after Game 5.
Oh yeah, and one more thing as per the Macri newsletter, we need slightly more egalitarian refs.
One other tidbit from Macri, a point I really didn’t pick up watching the game, hence my sharing it — I thought Deuce did okay, but:
“Perhaps the best stat of the night: Indy had just a 105.3 offensive rating in the 29 minutes McBride played, but a 137.8 rating in the 19 minutes he sat.”
That McBride stat should be shown to the coach
I’m not impressed with that stat, Raven. TJ & Obi were bad last night, and Indiana’s starters were excellent in the first half.
Deuce’s size killed us on the boards down the stretch.
The sky is blue AND water is wet, Hubie. Two things can be true at the same time. I don’t disagree with your end-of-game analysis, but it’s also pretty clear that Deuce was a critical disruptor that let us get back into the game.
Also in that vein, ‘TJ & Obi were bad last night’ AND ‘a 137.8 rating in the 19 minutes he sat.’
Agreed. Putting this on the refs looks just as bad as when Philly and Indy put it on the refs. It was a close game, and their guy hit a crazy shot (and another one of their guys made a huge block), and thus the Knicks barely lost. Tip your cap, and take care of business in Game 4. Just like the Philly series (only also then win Game 5. ;)).
Sometimes you just need to play much better instead of just better than your opponent to get the win cause of refs, whining, bad luck or other shit.
Take it like a man and keep going
Don’t understand the optimism here. We shot over 50% from 3. This was our MIA/BOS game 2 outlier game, and we still lost
OG’s absence is clearly being trickle-truthed and we should not expect him back for the series. Brunson’s foot looked bad and figures to get worse after just 36 hours between games.
I don’t think we’re going to be close in any if the next 3 games. We’ve just run out of options.
Stop watching..
Pags, as much as I (don’t) appreciate your schtick (at all), you come across as an idiot on top of being an irritant when you say stuff like this.
Nobody knows what’ll happen, especially as we’re currently and for the foreseeable future without 3.5 of our starters, along with a key reserve, so it’s absolutely possible that we lose the next three.
But one thing we DO know is this team will scrape and scrap all 48 minutes of every remaining game, and the odds are VERY good that any and all remaining games will be close.
Which also means we will have the chance to steal two games and advance. I say ‘steal’ because it does feel against all odds, but with this team there’s a real shot. Which is one reason I appreciate them so much. Unlike you, Pags, they don’t have any quit.
Don’t understand the optimism here
We narrowly lost. On the road. We lead 2-1. We have HCA. You may disagree but what the fuck do you not understand?
I understand the thoughts about rebounding but we need McBride on the floor as much as possible. With OG out he is our best perimeter defender. He was +11 last night, every other Knick had a negative +/-.
It’s also the fact that we lost all of the minutes that Precious, Hart, and IHart played together.
Having 3 non-shooters out there is a disadvantage offensively but with the Pacers’ speed and perimeter shooting playing two big men is also a disadvantage defensively.
McBride needs to start. Every stat from the last game and from the regular season shows that we are better with McBride in starting lineup when OG is out.
That is the key and I think we would have won last night going away if we had started McBride. Instead, we had to climb out of a 12-point hole in the 1st quarter and then an 11-point one in the 3rd.
This and the Raven stat are wildly misleading.
Deuce did better than the rest of the Knicks bc he played against TJ McConnell and they played against Tyrese Halliburton.
When Deuce played against the Pacers starting 5 down the stretch he was -4 and they killed us on the boards.
Also FWIW the same stats for him in the first two games were horrible.
Rebounding is our advantage and we lose it with Deuce. Those numbers are noise. The Pacers’ board dominance in the final minutes is the signal.
I thought you could turn the birdbrain doomer gimmick on and off?
So maybe it makes sense to start Deuce but if the game is close at all, close out with Precious?
no “ideal” options with all the injuries – but I also do not like precious at the 4 with isaiah in the game…
let deuce start the game…
nice game with the thunder/mavs…
Pags the clown is a shitty troll poster who has already been banned under a different name and still persists to post here where he’s not wanted, and to post irritatingly stupid crybaby horseshit that does nothing but annoy people and make this place dumber with every letter that he types into the box.
I wish there was a “no stupid fucking assholes” policy on this blog, but alas.
Chet Holmgren might be the skinniest great player in the history of the NBA
Last 2 minute report only had 1 missed call, Siakam grabbing iHart on the Nembhard layup. Not only would it have waived off the go ahead basket it would’ve also been Siakam’s 6th foul.
The Mavs big 3 is doing it (Luka, Kyrie and PJ Washington)
On a separate note, I love that Hubie is still doing these games. His voice is so soothing to listen to and he’s genuinely so appreciative of players, it’s always very enjoyable.
Sga…hero ball…no bueno
Meanwhile, Mets being no-hit.
We all know the reason we lost is that Josh Hart didn’t play 48 minutes. I accept no other explanation. We have yet to lose a playoff game in which Hart plays exactly 48:00.
The Mets can’t hit worth a damn and need to rebuild their entire offense. I want no part of a Pete Alonso extension and hope he gets hot enough to get traded for prospects before the deadline.
Good news is that the young pitching looks very good. Mets pitchers lead the entire minor leagues in ERA, Christian Scott looked terrific again today despite getting touched up for a few runs by a top offense, and there are some other arms at all levels of the system that appear to be stepping up.
The Mets ball park is to big for them to hit in. I truly believe this.
I’ve definitely seen enough of Brett “4-3” Baty, who amazingly has an even higher ground ball rate this year. His glove has been a lot better but he is just never going to be able to stop grounding out.
Again, imagine being, like, “Man, I sure hate playing with Luka fucking Doncic.”
I’m just glad people are finally seeing how unwatchable the Thunder can be instead of just glancing at box scores and praising them. So much flopping everywhere, Dort is built like a bull yet goes to the ground on every contact, SGA on every drive whips his head back like he’s been shot by a sniper.
I don’t have much love for the Mavericks but I’m sure rooting for them.
Looks like Hali is questionable for game 4. That would be helpful.
it looked like he tweaked his back in the last few minutes on a layup..
Man it is so nice to have the Rangers on off days.
They’re kinda want the Knicks would be like if everyone was healthy
Watching Donovan Mic’d up for this game vs the Cavs has me wondering if maybe he could fit next to Jalen…
He really has ungodly skills and has a great head on his shoulders. Making myself believe Thibs could make the defense work…
I have to assume that the mic’d up feature is set up so that only the most innocuous tidbits that the editor can cobble together make the reel. Either that or all coaches speak only in hackneyed platitudes and their only coaching tool is to say “we’re being out-hustled”.
