2023-24 Game Thread Knicks @ Warriors: OG Elbow Prayer Circle Opener, which is sadly a thing

We had some less than delightful Woj bombs tonight, not only does he note that the Knicks are unsure if they’ll see Julius Randle again this year, but OG is going to be out for a while, as the elbow continues to be really sore. Luckily, the MRI is clean, and it’s not like OG is a starting pitcher, so Tommy John Surgery doesn’t come into play, so whatever, I’m not pumped, but nor am I too upset, either.

OG will likely be back, and then they’ll start winning every game he plays again. They’ll be fine.

They almost beat the Warriors without OG last time, and the Warriors are all over the place, so the Knicks can easily win this one tonight.

Let’s hope that they do just that.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Also Haliburton is overrated.

I have to think he is hurt. Or maybe his unique mechanics are finally catching up with him.

In the previous 8 games he shot 18% from 3 on exactly 7 attempts per game. Tonight he shot 1 for 9 from 3.

So what ends tonight – our streak of holding teams under 100 or Brunson 40 point games?

Sadly I think both.

Lowry getting big buckets in an important game against the Heat is pretty funny.

Knicks won the last two while shooting below 30% from 3. They probably need to be at 40%ish to have a shot tonight.

Every iHart floater makes my heart sink because I’m convinced it’s going nowhere near the rim, then it keeps going and goes in…

Brunson has been awesome when blitzed. He’s found I-Hart every single time.

Very pleasing first five minutes. Which is something, I guess…

And Deuce riding Curry like Secretariat. 40 minutes and no points for Miles?

Brilliant move by Tibs designating Deuce as Curry’s hemorrhoid.
Great passing by Hartenstein and his floater looks like a never-miss shot.’

The difference in rim protection/rebounding the moment I-Hart steps out is stark.

Hart is a much better rebounder when he’s playing SF and not having to box out PFs and Cs.

Like, way too early to declare Thibs officially Found Something, but this lineup has been a blast. I’m pretty close to full circle on Deuce, will happily take the L on that one if he keeps it up.

The Deuce front braid is an actual thing! I thought it was just a piece of his do collapsing last game.

Also, brilliant cut.

It’s such a smart adjustment. DDV wouldn’t be able to cover Steph nearly as well. Deuce is not giving him an inch. Some of the best defense I’ve seen on Steph.

So Blake Snell turned down 5 yrs, 150 Million from the Yankees to sign for 2 yrs, 62 Million with the Giants…

Can we just hand Jackson-Davis the Sumner award now?

Bojan turns it over way too much

But the starting unit was great, we need more of that energy

Is it okay if I blame that really bad pass on Burks not being in the right place?

Cuz, you know, Burks.

That opening lineup was moving and grooving but man they missed a shit ton of wide open 3s. And then the bench mob comes in, gives up a bunch of dunks and Bogey promptly throws the ball into the stands. (smh)

The Detroit trade as a vote of confidence in Deuce: A+

The Detroit trade in every other way: F-

Is it okay if I blame that really bad pass on Burks not being in the right place?

Cuz, you know, Burks.

Seems fair

Does Burks have an assist as a Knick yet?

12 assists in 217 minutes. 11 turnovers.

12 assists in 217 minutes. 11 turnovers.

I’m guessing they were all airballs to a guy who just happened to be cutting

Deuce should probably rest a bit in the non-Curry minutes, otherwise he won’t have legs in the 4th quarter.

So is Burks. They both suck. Burks is shooting every time he touches the ball, which has the exact same results as Bogey turning it over every time.

Burks and Bojan have gotten their power stolen by the Monstars. It’s nuts.

Freaking Thibs should have told Bojan not to throw the ball in the opponent’s hands.

Deuce should probably rest a bit in the non-Curry minutes, otherwise he won’t have legs in the 4th quarter.

Thibs: “No rest for the weary”

We just don’t have the kind of ecosystem these guys enjoyed while they were playing well in *checks notes* Detroit

Bojan gets stuck in the same place in the same place every single time

In response to Alan’s question last thread, Deuce should also make an all-NBA team

It might be Shake time. And maybe DaQuan.

Can’t be worse.

Detroit guys: 2-8 for 7 points, 2 turnovers, 2 assists, 1 rebound in 17 combined minutes.

It’s telling that this is somehow a step in the right direction.

Ah Draymond’s solution to their Deuce problem is to illegally screen the hell out of him

I thought Sims should have come in when Jackson-Davis was in. They could have had a hop-fest.

I-Hart coming out there is not ideal. Only 10 minutes in the half.

Deuce is SO good today. My goodness.

This “…right in the hands of Kuminga!” thing is getting really old.

Well. Are we not entertained?

I’m a little nauseated, but that was fun.

Not the ideal ending, no, but they’re still up six.

And Deuce has 19 fucking points in a single fucking half! That’s insane!

This “…right in the hands of Kuminga!” thing is getting really old.

I think that’s just his name: Wright Inza-Handsov Kuminga

Dang crazy end to the half, refs really swallowed their whistles, getting chippy out there…

What are the odds on Draymond doing something stupid and getting booted for the season 🤷🏾‍♂️😅

I felt that Deuce and Hart were a bit tired at the end there – having not rested for a single minute.

I felt that Deuce and Hart were a bit tired at the end there – having not rested for a single minute.

“Well, why would you rest anyone with a 15pt lead?” -Tom Thibodeau, head coach/crazy person

That Warriors run was a shame because it was mostly about bad bounces and sloppy offensive play. I thought the Knicks had a close to impeccable half until that happened.

Maybe Thibs believes that we have an infinitesimal chance of winning…the nerve!

Probably the most unprofessional halftime show ever. Someone might get pink-slipped by night’s end.

This feels like a sure loss, but the worst part is the ESPN crawl stating IG is out “indefinitely ” Yay.

Probably the most unprofessional halftime show ever. Someone might get pink-slipped by night’s end.

Yeah but they’re having so much fun aren’t they?

Moronic….

draymond still looking for his athletic supporter after brunson just schooled him..

I’m pretty sure I used to see Podziemski selling meth behind the 7-11 near my old place.

I-Hart is a +23 for the game.

They really will need to find a way to survive his bench minutes this half.

So I get that scoring was a little too easy but this whole thing of turning the foul slider down to 0 mid season without telling anyone feels like someone important had some big bets on the under for the second half of the season or something. 5 whole FTA as a team when Brunson alone has been mauled a half dozen times…

A healthy OG would not be letting Kuminga do what he is doing to Hart this quarter.

Loving the toughness they’re showing.

The frustration with the whistle is obvious and they’re letting it get to them giving up obvious fouls on the other end, but they’re still fighting.

The Knicks are getting some really lucky bounces, which is nice, too!

iHart was always Jokic. He’s being allowed to be Jokic, finally.

Precious cannot hang with this Jackson-Davis kid.

Achiuwa proving that Sims did belong in at the end of the last half

I truly don’t get how the Warriors are playing Brunson. How do you let him take that shot? Only to then foul him as he lands? Moronic play.

Probably not a flagrant, but it’s close!

Achiuwa proving that Sims did belong in at the end of the last half

See, I think matching up Sims with Jackson-Davis would be smarter than putting him in at the end of the half when Draymond was out there.

yeah, sims/jackson-davis is the match up…

big play for us…fuck bob myers, that was 100% a flagrant…

and fuck steve garvey’s plastic, stretched and shiny face…

The difference between I-Hart and the other centers tonight is a net 37 points. In a 9 point game.

If anyone wants to know Deuce or Hart’s per 36 numbers, it’s really easy right now

I’m really hoping I-Hart can play 8-9 minutes this quarter. This would take him to 24 total, 4 fewer minutes than in the Sacto game.

That Secretariat line was easily D’Antoni’s best quip during his Knicks tenure.

I think matching up Sims with Jackson-Davis would be smarter than putting him in at the end of the half when Draymond was out there.

Yeah. They need Sims out there just to box that guy out.

Hart has 10 rebounds and 10 assists, but still only 6 points. This is the most Josh Hart thing.

I’ll put this lineup against any the Knicks have had this year as worst possible.

The Knicks are sloppy, but this is their bench. These are some key Warriors players playing this sloppy.

They’re saying it’s fatigue on Deuce’s part. It’s not. There are two shooters out there that can’t shoot, and two non-shooters out there that can’t shoot. What the fuck is he supposed to do???

Not only to they have a bunch of guys out, but they can’t play the guys they have when they need them because of minutes restrictions. The Knicks would be like 20 points ahead of I-Hart and Brunson could both play their regular minutes.

thibs is so concerned about the tjd roll that he has achiuwa in a deep drop against cp3 yet we’re killed by the tjd roll anyway

Brunson will return and it will be fine. Relax! Heck, maybe he’ll get 40 again. He only needs 11!

I’ve been reluctant to give up on Burks and Bogey, but this game has really done it. They are all out of sorts, sloppy, desperate, completely lost and lacking any confidence. On paper they made sense but in practice they have been a disaster.

Healthy playoff rotation:
Brunson, Dante, OG, Randle, iHart
Deuce, Hart,Precious,Mitch

Bojan and Burks are benched.

See? Just get Brunson back, and calm is returned.

are you actively medicating BC…you are waaaaaay too relaxed at the moment 🙂

“thibs is so concerned about the tjd roll that he has achiuwa in a deep drop against cp3 yet we’re killed by the tjd roll anyway”

I once had a bad tjd roll resulting in a deep drop…

In all seriousness, it’s more anti-Warriors than anything. I just don’t like this year’s Warriors squad in close games. I’ve seen them collapse way too often. I think the Knicks just needed to right things with Brunson and they’d be fine, because the Warriors would fall apart.

I actually think my sister could have shot that shot better than Bogey just did!

I mean, look at that last possession. These guys are choking like shit.

I just don’t like this year’s Warriors squad in close games.

very good BC, warriors are 4 – 10 in games within 3 points…

That was pretty much the textbook example of how not to guard Jalen Brunson.

Jalen throwing some dumb-ass passes this quarter. Not usual.

Jalen throwing some dumb-ass passes this quarter. Not usual.

When they were guarding him one on one, he should be trying to score each time.

How do you wait until 4:11 to double him?

They doubled him quite a bit in the first half, and then gave up on it.

I mean, when Steph Curry shoots 3-11 from three, you’re in pretty darn good shape.

Hart was determined to get that triple-double. He put in a full day’s work. I think he deserves it.

Shouldn’t you just start fouling every possession here?

it’s like an unwritten NBA rule now that they don’t play the foul game anymore at the end of games…people just wanna go home i guess…

unexpected victory…

that starting lineup was a huge success for thibs, that and saving isaiah’s minutes for the second half…

love that deuce dunk at the end, take that with you for the drive home warriors’ fans…

that starting lineup was a huge success for thibs,

learned his lesson the last one against these guys…good to see he sorted it out…

Tremendous effort from Josh while putting up maybe the worst triple double in NBA history

Deuce >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Steph

Irrelevant to the outcome but…

An I the only one who gets extremely nervous every time Brunson meanders across the half court line with 16 on the shot clock? The league decided awhile ago that 24-8 = 15 for some reason, so that helps I guess?

Great win. Thankfully we don’t play till Thursday so Hart and McBride can rest after both nearly playing the whole game.

It’s gonna be tough beating Denver without OG but this team is winning games I didn’t expect. Go Knicks!

Yeah, there was definitely a couple times I thought 8 seconds expired tonight

The league decided awhile ago that 24-8 = 15 for some reason, so that helps I guess?

I never understood how they are counting that. It makes no sense.

But yeah, it’s a little nerve-racking, even if I don’t recall him ever being called for 8 seconds. But it does mean it takes a while to start the offense. I suppose he is trying to rest up while bringing up the ball.

Philly beat Miami and Cleveland beat the Pacers, which are two results that are both good and bad

Reading this blog you would never guess the Knicks went ahead in the first and the led wire to wire for the win. It must be Brunson not getting dirt points three games in a row (only 34) and not holding the opponent under 100 points are depressing people.

This team is so fun to watch’. But, just imagine…if we were at full strength. 🫨

they’re showing it now on sportscenter, that was nasty…

great – on the espn ticker they now have running: OG out indefinitely…

That Deuce 3 over Draymond was porn to me, always love to get one over him and the Warriors, specially with them fully healthy and at home. Seeing those fans leave early is always a treat.

Incredible road trip no matter what happens next at Denver.

I never understood how they are counting that. It makes no sense

I’ve heard broadcasters say they don’t call it until 15 is on the clock.

Which makes no sense if you have taken first grade arithmetic.

Is it even a good rule? I don’t know why it exists tbh.

I haven’t watched college basketball all year but I’m personally offended the Johnnies were snubbed

Raven, I watched this game with my sister, who I’m spending a couple weeks with, and she was an Olympic basketball player! And yes, she could have done better than Bojan I think.

First current Knicks game I’ve watched with her, which was fun. She was really impressed by our defense, not impressed by our second string. I explained it was our third string and our entire starting frontcourt is out. “Ah, that makes sense. Your second string is pretty damn good, then.” Yes indeed.

I don’t follow college ball at all but my friend who is a huge st. john’s fan tells me the conference champoinships basically fucked all the bubble teams. He’s still mad tho

Had to drive to the airport tonight and listened the first two plus quarters on the radio. Watched the last 18 minutes or so. Precious had a bad game. He and DiVo were missing defensive assignments, and so was the Detroit duo. Things got a bit scary at the beginning of the fourth when the Warriors cut it to four but then Thibs took a time out, I-Hart came back, he settled the defense down, and it soon became clear we are not losing tonight. I cannot remember a west coast trip that we went up 3-0 and I have been watching this team for decades. Kudos to the players and coaching staff! Where are those imbecile grave diggers who wanted to put Thibs on the skewer all day today? Oh well.

“Tomorrow we are going to host a Josh Hart apology space on this blog”

I know he missed all of his 3’s but he played pretty good otherwise…does he really need to apologize?

I cannot remember a west coast trip that we went up 3-0 and I have been watching this team for decades.

A quick check seems like the answer is another Knick season where they overcame some injury adversity, the 1997-98 Knicks.

Just checked out the 1997-98 New York Knicks. Seems like 35-year-old Patrick Ewing was indeed held to 26 games that season. I had totally forgotten that we ever had former big-time All-Star Terry Cummings on our roster for that season.
