Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks vs. Grizzlies (Street Clothes Opener, which is not really a thing)

The injury-ravaged Knicks host the injury-decimated Grizzlies at MSG tonight.

The Knicks are missing some key guys, but so long as they have Brunson, they still have more guys than Memphis, so the Knicks really should win this one.

How many minutes will Taj get tonight?

53 wins is still in play!

Let’s go, Knicks!

I thought that that should be the move as soon as the OG trade was made, as that allows them to use DJM as the centerpiece of an eventual godfather offer for Mitchell.

We shall see what happens.

In non- Knick big news, ESPN, Fox and Warners are launching a massive sports streaming service together. Wow.

Maybe Brunson can save everyone from having to play 40 minutes against what might be the worst NBA roster ever trotted out for a game

Grizzlies looking like the embodiment of the “stop he’s already dead” simpsons gif

I love how we are reinventing cable.

I’ve seen some awful teams before but this Memphis squad makes the Process Sixers look decent in comparison.

Yep. Totally shambolic.

Hard to watch honestly. And haven’t seen the first episode of Curb.

Just reading Thibs’ answers on OG’s elbow made me depressed right now. Doesn’t sound good at all.

lol, stream was memphis commentators … memphis player hits a 3 “3 balls keeping memphis in……” long silence, never finished the sentence

lol

Archie! Archie! Archie! C’mon Thibs let the guy score his first points of the season!

I could watch Clyde and Dollar Bill tell stories all night. Perfect entertainment while the bench mob just destroys this Memphis embarassment.

Interesting: Thibs is finishing the half with Deuce instead of Hart, something he probably regrets not doing against the Lakers.

Right. Like the game is on in the corner of the room, but we’re learning from the Elders at the dining table. Haha.

Clyde is so funny “if Bill was elected, i was going to be secretary of defense” 😀

This Grizz team should be relegated and replaced with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers

Precious seems to have a personal ISM guarding him whenever he shoots in the paint.

Is Duane Washington Jr. a real person or did Brock Aller make him up for the purposes of one day having a little more matching salary? We should find out soon.

Having to get brunson back in is non sense

Evan can’t get any burn? The bench has no punch on it at the moment

A bench of Taj, Flynn and McBride

That is on par with the Grizz current roster

Phuk. That JB has to be playing at this point against this awful team is scary…….

Brunson getting injured while playing because the Memphis G team went on an 18-1 run is kind of Knicksy (and we haven’t used that term in a while)

If you take JB off this team would they reach 80 points?

Hope they hold on tonight cause Knicks might not win again before the All-Star break if Brunson is out.

Knicks might be cursed

Would you call it cursed or running players into the ground?

Would you call it cursed or running players into the ground?

Neither incident today was of the fatigue type.

Update: we should be relegated and the Sioux Falls Skyforce should take our place

Gonna be the worst win of the season.

The two wins against Memphis are 1-2 for sure.

Knicks need to make their trades tomorrow so hopefully the players they acquire can play on Thursday.

Hart twisted a knee too and looks a little tentative…we should really just punt the Dallas game at a minimum.

Evil Donte-Duane “allegedly real person” Washington-Charlie Brown-Jacob Toppin-Taj.

they just kept hitting their threes in the fourth…

3 after 3 after 3…

jackson II looked really good in the 4th for the grizz…

In positive news if Bucks lose at Phoenix they’ll have same record as the Knicks.

Well, at least we still have the good vibes from Clyde and Breen’s celebration during this game. But I’d have gladly traded that for a less anxious ending and no Brunson turned ankle. 🤞🏻

Yeah, this is basically ridiculous 3 point shooting. If they simply shot 40% rather than 60%, it would be a 28 point game right now.

The 3s were falling, but the bench doesn’t have any offensive firepower on it…that was an issue as well which is why Brunson had to go back in

They had three rotation players on the bench today though. Yes they need one more bench guard, but they need to get healthy too.

I couldn’t watch the game. Iwoukd have loved to hear Clyde reminisce. But I did look at the ESPN box score and noticed an odd thing. It has expected return dates for injured players. I don’t know where they get them, but, for what it is worth, Mitch is expected to return April 2, Sims February 8, Grimes February 12 and OG February 8th.

I didn’t watch the game but checking the stats… 21 threes?! Jesus Christ. Looks like we blew a big lead to G-leaguers.

We need healthy bodies and some help from trades.

Knicks are now tied with Boston after recording their 22nd double digit win of the season which leads the NBA.

See, this is why we need another guard who can actually score. It would be a big mistake in my opinion to stand pat at the deadline and hope that this bench with zero good offensive players on it is going to get the job done.

Even at full health we don’t have anybody on the bench who can score reliably.

Was not concerned, even for a minute. Teams get complacent with big leads.

Only thing to worry about is Brunson’s ankle, but he was walking so.. Probably fine

I also read Thibs answers to questions about OG that were linked to here. It didn’t worry me. I concluded that the Medical department does not answer to the coaching staff and doesn’t have to justify keeping a player out. That’s why Thibs kept referring to Medical. And that organizational structure makes sense to me. If you want to protect the long term health of a player who is an organizational asset, do you really want the coach deciding whether to give a cortisone shot today and a bunch of pain killers so you win tonight’s game at the possible expense of his long term health?

Would you call it cursed or running players into the ground?

Yeah give me a break with this “cursed” crap. Thibs spent half of January playing like it was game 7 of the finals and it’s caught up to us.

Look out, Donte. You’re next.

I find Thibs a minute manic as much as anyone, but other than I-Hart and OG, I would put the injuries very clearly in the bad luck variety rather than over-usage.

Respectfully, Marechal, that sounds like denial. Take Randle, for instance. If you fall on your shoulder, a fatigued labrum is more likely to tear than a rested one. Take Brunson, tonight. Ankles turn more readily when the muscles and tendons are exhausted. Take OG. No one knows what the hell is wrong with him but elbow aggravation screams overuse.

The loads these guys were asked to carry in January were ridiculous. It’s not a coincidence they’re all hurt.

Brunson really only has one gear and it’s terrifying right now

This is depressing…

I left for the night between these two posts. WTF happened?! The rest of the thread is terrifying.

Every injury that’s ever been sustained during a workout of any kind can be blamed on fatigue of some sort. It’s the low-hanging fruit and it’s impossible to disprove. But I feel like it tells only a fraction of the real story in almost every case.

“Medical” should keep Brunson, OG, and Grimes out for the next couple of games. If not, Thibs will run these guys into the ground. I’d way rather rest until after the all star break, get healthy, and get ready for the second half and playoffs with a healthy rested team than allow Thibs to keep pushing the limits. Then Mitch and Randle will come back and a couple of weeks after that we should be peaking for the stretch run.
