Oh man, so many cool stories yesterday. Thanks for that! Knick Fan in Celtic Land, that’s a wonderful story… and sorry about the gold medal, but we’re also strong in XC here in Portugal! I won’t bother you with my stories because it’s mostly about football/soccer like Bruno’s… but i’ve also seen my team (FC Porto) be world champions (twice)! And btw, Bruno, i remember those Sao Paulo teams, was rooting for you guys, Muller and Raí were magnificent players. 😉 Two of Sao Paulo’s players back then, Doriva and Lula, later played here for FC Porto. 🙂 About the Knicks it’s all on TV because i’ve never been to the states, but the best moment by far was watching us win game 5 of the 1994 NBA Finals… at the time, i really thought we could steal one in Houston!
That 2004 Porto team was a thing of beauty cyber, Deco was one of my favorite players ever to watch.
“…but the best moment by far was watching us win game 5 of the 1994 NBA Finals… at the time, i really thought we could steal one in Houston!”
I was at that game, and afterwards leading the “Knicks in six!” chants on the 2 train! (And feeling no pain!)
Other great moments live:
-1993 clincher vs. DET
-Jordan’s double-nickel game 🙁
-Steph’s 54 point game
-’86 Mets Game 3 Dykstra walk-off HR game
But it did make us suffer 20 years of Jose Mourinho.
Oddly enough the best live sport I witnessed was actually a premier league match. I flew to London in 2010 to see the North London Derby. At that particular time Tottenham hadn’t won one in over a decade. It was a Wednesday night in North London and I saw this:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ibSqYaGTt8Y
I was literally hailed as a hero at the pub after: “the Yank who skipped across the pond and ended the curse”. I stayed out til 2am or so, not knowing the tube closed on weeknights. The whole damn pub offered to let me stay at their home.
Then a volcano erupted in Iceland. I got stranded there. I got to see the next match. We beat Chelsea (another thing that rarely happened). Went back to the same pub. I had become a legend, and no one wanted me to go home!
A week later I got an all expenses paid (by a supporter who thought I was lucky) trip to Manchester to see us play United.
Alas, my luck ran out, the Atlantic skies cleared, and back home I went to my non-legendary life of being a Knicks fan in 2010.
being a 42 yo Mets, Knicks, Jets, Rangers fan, I dont have much in terms of big games I was at. but when I was in High School in Queens we had an Alum that worked for the Braves. Whenever they came to town we got a box of old BP balls and a box of old gear. Our coach would take 3 or 4 seniors to the game to pick up the stuff and then we’d get tickets to the game.
It was summer of 98, Braves vs Yankees interleague game. I was invited. We show up and they give us press passes! We walk with our coach (a legendary Baseball and Basketball coach in NYC) into the press gate and get lead down a hall way. The 4 of us thought we’d just be picking up the boxes and then going to our seats, coach never stayed for the game, he left the ticket to us and drove home with the boxes.
Next thing we know, we’re let into the Braves clubhouse. Chat with Tony Graffanino, a long island native, and Keith Lockhart. Cool as hell.
Then they let us go on the field for batting practice. Bobby Cox introduces himself, as does Leo Mazzone. It thrilling to meet these guys and watch BP. The 3 other seniors and I are extremely cool and calm, playing it totally cool.
Few mins later, our coach says “ok time to go. Help me to my car”. After doing so, he hands us the tickets and leaves. All 4 of us realize we still have press passes and say YOLO, lets see what happens if we walk back in. SO we walk through with no issues, down hallway, right into the dugout and we take seats on the bench to watch the end of BP.
Bobby Cox walks over to kick us out but to our surprise says “I met you guys earlier right? stay as long as you want but when the anthem plays, you gotta go”
few mins go by, we are still cplaying it cool with no sign of being starstruck. Graffanino and Lockhart some by to say hello. Then Greg Maddux!! walks over to say hello. Later Kevin Millwood and Chipper Jones. These guys are sitting on the concrete steps shooting the sh*t with us for 15 minutes or so. Millwood showing me his changeup grip, Maddux cracking jokes. At one point they grabbed baseballs and a pen for us and asked if we wanted autographs!
Maddux waived over Eddie Perez, his personal catcher, and said “hey Eddie, we have some kids from Venezuela here that want to meet you”. He happily comes over and then sadly realizes we are just 4 NYC kids, Maddux gives him my autographed ball and tells him to sign it. When Eddie started writing his name, Maddux slapped his arm and said “no they don’t want Eddie Perez, just sign it ‘Javy Lopez'” (who was the Braves young all star catcher).
It was super cool and since that day I never hated the braves as much as I did as a huge Mets fan – which they were all glad to point out to me how dumpy Shea stadium was and they hated playing there.
Don’t have many big games I’ve been to but I was at game 3 of the 2015 World Series and the place was electric afterward. Everyone was singing Meet the Mets on train back from the game.
The best Knicks game I’ve been to was this Easter game against the Bulls. Melo hit a 3 at the end of regulation to send it to OT then hit another 3 in OT to win it. That was a pretty great game.
one more to add. I spent 5 summers in high school and college on the grounds crew at the US Open. We spent all summer getting the grounds ready: screens on chain-link fences, pulling weeds, maintenance for the summer camps, wood shop, court maintenance, etc. But during the tourney we got different jobs, mine was being a court attendant. I got to sit on court, behind the players on Arthur Ashe, Louie Armstrong and the Grandstand. Job was to make sure the coolers, towels, and banana containers were full. I saw pretty much every big match during those years. Also had to power wash the courts at end of night. It was great.
My last year there, I worked in the ticket office during the tourney as a runner: take tickets from ticket office to the players lounge when needed. In the lounge they had 2 Playstations setup: 1 with a tennis game and 1with a golf game. No players ever played them so my coworker and I would slack off and play from time to time. One day, I get a tap on my shoulder and hear ” I got next”. Turn around and its Roger Federer!
He was still young, maybe ranked just outside the top 20. The tennis game only had the top 16 or so guys by name. I can’t recall who he played as but he destroyed me, and he talked trash! something like “i see you all the time playing but you still stink” i countered with “well you’re not even in this game!” we both laughed.
I prob played against him on 3 different occasions after that day, he was super nice, he also beat me at the golf game.
Awesome Federer story! I stopped paying attention to tennis once Sampras and Agassi retired.
1. That takes Rozier out of play for us, not that most on here wanted him.
2. That gives Miami less ammunition if they want to make their own play at a Star Trade this summer.
Love reading KB’s game stories. Knicks, Rangers and Yankee games followed a similar ritual for me and my dad from the 70’s until he died in 2012. Before night games at the Garden, we would grab an early dinner at V & T Pizza at 110th and Amsterdam – usually a large 1/2 Sausage Pie and 2 cokes (maybe pop into the Hungarian Bake Shop for a pastry) then drive downtown to find parking and take a walk around Gerry Cosby’s. Yankee games were the reverse. We would attend weekend afternoon games at the Stadium then head to V & T Pizza for an early dinner. If it was a win or Bo Jackson broke a bat on his knee – we would jump into a Yankee conversation with our waiter, Aldo.
Some nuggets from my broadcasting and college sports radio days:
A white knuckle drive to North Adams, Massachusetts followed by Pizza Hut preceded a riveting SUNY Albany vs. North Adams State College basketball game held during a snowstorm that me and partner broadcast to maybe 10 people in Albany. Who could forget the college hockey game called on a telephone while I was sitting on a lifeguard chair.
Nothing compared to the Doral Arrowwood Summer league games in the 90’s (I seem to remember Hubert posting that he was there too). Talking basketball with Dick McGuire, who was sitting on a stage at the Westchester County Center, Red Holtzman, and Cal Ramsey while watching game after game. Sitting a few feet from Allen Iverson when he made his professional debut and hoping that John Wallace was our “Answer.”
Rozier to Miami for what sounds like Lowry and one first.
That’s…low enough that I’m going to be wondering whether we should’ve topped it unless/until we do something else.
Also, Rozier is a very good fit for Miami, since they have the defenders to cover for his weaknesses there.
Speaking of alternatives, Macri mentioned the possibility of acquiring D’Lo.
A lot of people have a revulsion to him for reasons both fair and unfair, but if there’s basically no cost (e.g. us being the third-team in a Dejounte Murray trade) I think we could do a lot worse for a ~20 minute offensive injection.
Macri proposed/implied something like:
ATL gets: Fournier, Grimes, LAL 2029 FRP
NYK gets: D’Lo, AJ Griffin
LAL gets: Dejounte Murray
I’d do it. Griffin is a fine Grimes facsimile and is younger and D’Lo accomplishes our goal of keeping a large salary slot on the books next year if he opts into his player option, something his agents at the Creative Artists Agency might be willing to accommodate.
One of my favorite personal sports stories on the non-professional variety:
I was travelling in Mexico with my family the winter of my senior year in high school. We were in Ixtapa (where I got a legendary case of food poisoning later), but one night we decided to go next door to Zihuatanejo. Yep, the one from Shawshank. I had heard that they had an outdoor basketball court and I had brought a ball. I played for my school and was trying to stay in shape for the season so I put up shots for about 15 minutes while my parents had a margarita.
At some point, one end of the court started filling up with a bunch of locals in jerseys. They were the Ziwa semipro team. Shortly thereafter three Black guys pulled up decked out in UCLA athletic department gear. Two of them were about 6’2 and one was taller than me, maybe 6’8. Sensing that something competitive was going to happen I asked them if they needed someone to run with them. The shortest one, who had the most alpha energy, looked me up and down and said, “Can you ball?” I assured him that I wouldn’t embarrass them and asked them where they were from. “Ghetto USA” was the curt answer – which worked for me.
We drafted a fifth guy, I think he was a local barback, and proceeded to absolutely obliterate the local heroes. I had played all my life but I had never played with anyone remotely as athletic as these guys. I threw my first alley oop, played a lot of defense, and generally spectated as they ran an in-game dunk contest.
The game ended and the guys walked off without a word. Still a total mystery who they were or why they showed up but I had a hell of a night.
I was there, in Gelsenkirchen, for the Champions League final. Huge celebration from our fans, it was just a perfect day.
Oh man, that must have been amazing! 😉
Can you believe i was in Germany on my way to the airport to go back to Portugal, when they decided to shut down all flights? What a journey to get back, it took me 4 days. 😀
“Oh man, that must have been amazing! 😉”
Sadly, it was the high water mark for the Knicks at MSG since 1973. And here we are, 30 years later…still waiting…
Kind of weird that the Lakers, whose offense stinks, would want to trade away one of their better offensive players in D-Lo, but they’re not a very well run organization these days. Russell would be a great fit in the role we need filled.
was my fave job ever. Also played with Lleyton Hewitt’s entourage quite a bit.
When we were court attendants we had one hour on court and one hour off court. We had a room underneath the bleachers that had a mini fridge that the morning crew would stock with beer from the western beef right outside the park. One guy got so drunk he passed out in his chair while on court. We noticed on the TV in our hang out room and had to run out to wake him during the next changeover. Somehow, none of the bosses noticed.
During a lunch break once, me and a buddy had the balls to walk over to Shea Stadium unannounced, our H.S. baseball coach had a hookup for tickets with a guy who was the clubhouse attendant. we told the security guard we were here to see our Uncle Frank and he let us right into the clubhouse! The Brewers were playing the Mets that day. We walked into an empty clubhouse and just waited for the guy, who eventually yelled at us but gave us free tickets anyway. There was a 6 foot tall pallet filled with BudLights for the Brewers post game. Pretty hilarious.
If Leon can convince Russell to pick up his player option for next season I would be pretty happy with this trade. He can score, he can distribute and he can even play minutes at the 2 alongside Brunson if necessary, plus we definitely have the defenders to put around him so that we’ll be fine with his lack of effort defensively. If he buys into a more limited role and picks up the player option, it’s the best option we have alongside Brogdon for me.
https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/274388/Heat-Acquire-Terry-Rozier-From-Hornets-For-Kyle-Lowry-2027-First-Rounder
Scary Terry to the Heat…that helps them I guess…and Lowry might be an excellent buyout pickup for us…
Awesome stories, Knickelbacker. I was in the bleachers for that series. I saw Greg Maddux throw a complete game shutout in 80-something pitches. Fastest game I ever saw.
Bobby Marks says the Hornets don’t plan to buy out Lowry, at least now. They wanna see if they can flip him for something else.
And everyone says Russell is definitely going to pick up the player option, because there’s no way he will make that amount of money as a free agent on the open market.
My dad was a lounge singer in Fort Lauderdale, and some MLB umpires, Drew Coble and Al Clark, came into the club where he was working one night and they became friends. The Yankees used to do their spring training there. So I’d get to go to a bunch of their games and get the whole behind the scenes treatment. This is probably 1985 or so and went on for a few years. Dave Winfield was super nice to me, Mel Allen and Phil Rizzuto signed some baseballs, and we’d always get box seats.
It seems a single lottery-protected first round pick gets a helluva lot more than it did last year.
I did go to those, and they were awesome! Saw Starks, Mason, Greg Anthony, Charlie Ward, Monty Williams. Loved it.
“Bobby Marks says the Hornets don’t plan to buy out Lowry, at least now. They wanna see if they can flip him for something else.”
I can’t imagine anyone wanting to give up anything of value for him…unless he’s just salary filler in another trade…
Well, this is the game to sit him, for sure. And if we have to take a version of a load management loss against Denver, so be it. Can’t afford for iHart to be out/hobbled long-term.
Hopefully someone is explaining this to Thibs.
Rozier is a nice player but he’s owed another 50 million.
I remember that game. Think Glavine pitched the night I was there.
I happened to see Maddux on my honeymoon in Lake Como Italy 8 years ago and despite telling him how to find coffee at the hotels breakfast buffet, I got nervous and didn’t tell him about my 1st time meeting him. Then later that day watched him photo bomb an old couple who’d ask one of his friends to take a picture of them. They didn’t know who he was. I again walked passed them and didn’t say anything. Next time I see him I’m def gonna speak to him.
On separate trips to Disney World I saw Evander Holyfield and Doug Flutie late night at the Magic Kingdom!
When I was a busboy at Kutchers in the Catskills, Muhammed Ali and Wilt Chamberlain were up for the Maurice Stokes Charity basketball game. This was the time that Ali was not able to box due to his refusal to be drafted for the Vietnam War. In the dining room, Ali ( the most charismatic person I have ever met in person) was taunting Wilt verbally and flicking jabs at him and the crowd was eating it up. Ali turned to me and my fellow busboys and waiters, winked, and said,
” Boys I ‘m building a million-dollar gate”.
The good thing about the Rozier deal from a Knicks perspective is that it makes it hard for Miami to cobble together a strong pick package for a star.
I suppose the bad thing is that Miami is probably betting that no big stars will become available this summer?
Given that Charlotte is 28th in points per game, they might find playing Lowry to be helpful to them, rather than trading him again
I am really enjoying reading all of these cool stories today. Great stuff everyone. I got a few, that you might enjoy.
I used to work in sports communications at Manhattan College (early 2000s) and got the chance to interact with both Jeff Van Gundy and Charlie Ward. Van Gundy used to come to the games and sit in the bleachers to watch. He would come up to the sports communication office and ask for gum. Which we had a big bucket. haha.
Another one, is when I met Carl Lewis at a Philadelphia Soul (Arena Football) game. I went up to him and chatted. He is originally from NJ, as am I, and the fact that I grew up running cross country and track in high school and college, made me a big fan. Especially since he is one of the greatest Olympians ever! He was nice, but his body guard, told me, that is enough. lol.
Another basketball one involves Doc Rivers, when he used to coach the Celtics. I was on my way to a concert in Philly, I believe it was for the band Travis, but not 100% sure. Anyway, the Celtics were in Philadelphia and I was in the passenger seat. While in traffic, I look over and see Doc Rivers walking down the street. I open the window and yell, “Doc, I used to love you on the Knicks, especially that brawl with the Suns.” He said thanks, waved and laughed.
Or they are worried the teams around them are getting better and they have to compete.
I’m a little baffled that most fans are OK with selling out Quentin Grimes for pennies on the dollar.
Six months ago, swapping him for Russell type + a 1st would have been considered blasphemy. Now, we’re somehow OK to send him packing and paying a first round pick for an effing bandaid?????
I respect Leon for not moving Randle two summers ago when everyone, including myself, wanted no part of him. Hope he shows similar emotional resilience now. This is the kids first career slump & he’s making peanuts over next couple of years. Whats the rush to give up on him?
Quinton Grimes is a not a super urgent problem that needs fixing ASAP. Someone please write Leon a strong dosage of melotonin and turn the lights off.
I agree. I’m thinking of trades like Fournier plus a pick, not Fournier and Grimes. I’d rather keep Grimes too.
Yeah, I’m not trading Grimes unless it’s for a clearly better player, aka a star.
On one hand, agree that we should rest iHart. On the other, he played through the injury for the entire first half of last year.
At the very least, we’ll know more about how we fare without him tonight (unless he gets cleared to play and crazy man plays him…)
In a bonus newsletter about the Rozier deal, Macri agrees with the idea that this deal boxes Miami in regarding future big trades:
I’m absolutely flabbergasted by the fact Miami upgraded so much for so little. Add to that the fact that Cleveland keeps winning is troubling. Mitch is out for a while, we don’t know how long Hartenstein is gonna be out, and Brunson, Hart, and Randle are all a little hobbled. I’m not saying Leon needs to hurry and match the moves Indy and Miami made, but those moves makes the bench reinforcement need more urgent- as if it wasn’t already urgent enough. It is imperative for Leon to find the best fit for the bench if he’s unable to upgrade the starting 5. And I’m not so sure the starting 5 needs to be upgraded with they way they’re playing.
I don’t like what this Rozier trade means for this season at all.
Since their names have been invoked here:
I drove up to SF to watch Maddux win his 300th game. He was always my favorite baseball player ever. Maybe I’m old school, but I like 80-pitch baseball games that take 1:40 minutes.
Carl Lewis is really, really cool. I used to hang out with him quite regularly, back when he lived in my neighborhood. Just a really nice, fun, pleasant person to be around.
That’s awesome Donnie. Was this before, during or after his amazing career? I found him to be very soft spoken, well at least at the game.
I’m not sold on Rozier being some kind of massive upgrade. Lowry was massive off the bench on both ends for the Heat in last year’s playoffs, despite being written off as washed several times prior to that. I also wonder if Jimmy Butler is starting to tail off, he’s got a ton of miles on those wheels and his numbers so far this year are just so-so compared to his last three with Miami. Seems like a desperation move to me.
Lowry does have the ‘Nova connection so hope CHA doesn’t find a taker and he wants to come here for another alumni gathering. He might be rejuvenated by a 10-15mpg backup role behind Brunson.
“Carl Lewis is really, really cool. I used to hang out with him quite regularly, back when he lived in my neighborhood. Just a really nice, fun, pleasant person to be around.”
Unless you challenged him to a race, not interested…
Quinton. Melotonin.
Crikey.
I tend to think that if Riley and Spoelstra have given up on a guy, they know that the guy is either not good or is washed. If Lowry does get bought out I guess we could bring him and see what he contributes, but the history of teams picking up guys Miami has given up on is not good.
Z-Man, that would have be a site to see. I was (still am sometimes) a distance runner with basically not spring speed. haha
Indeed, that would have be a (web) site to see.
Kyle Lowry stole game one from us last year in the playoffs when Butler got hurt and had 9 assist on the close out game 6. He’s clearly washed up and a shell of his former self but we need a savvy veteran champ in the lockeroom to mentor Brunson and maybe even contribute and manage the 2nd unit for 8-10 minutes during a tough playoff series. Perfect off waiver pick up. Just jope Pat the rat doesn’t take him back from us. Nova connection can’t hurt.
I don’t have many Knick highlights, but the best 3 Knick games I attended were:
June 2, 1993. Charles Smith eludes 3 defenders to score a lay up that snuffed out the Bull’s dream of a 3-peat. Knicks would go on to win their first chip in 20 years. It was also the game that started the legacy of MJ as a play-off choker.
June 22, 1994. John Starks supplants Clyde in having the best game 7 finals performance with a 51 point outburst, including 11 for 11 from downtown. 2nd chip in a row.
May 14, 1997. PJ Brown body slams Charlie Ward. Mayhem ensues as the Miami bench clears while the Knicks bench stays put knowing Charlie can hold his own given his football pedigree. Knicks clinch the series and earn their 3rd chip in 5 years.
“I tend to think that if Riley and Spoelstra have given up on a guy, they know that the guy is either not good or is washed. If Lowry does get bought out I guess we could bring him and see what he contributes, but the history of teams picking up guys Miami has given up on is not good.”
There were some clear benefits to Miami and to Charlotte in doing this trade on its face, so I don’t think it is necessarily true that Lowry is “completely” washed. Keep in mind that he was starting and playing 28mpg, and for THAT role he is certainly washed. Similarly, Kevin Love is washed as a starter, but if playing 12-18mpg in a backup role with some load management keeps him fresh, he might have some situational juice left to squeeze in the playoffs.
The other thing is that we don’t know whether a move will be made before the deadline. If we acquire someone like Brogdon or Murray, Lowry would make no sense. But if we either stand pat or trade for someone like Brown, then Lowry on a post-buyout deal might be a reasonable way to go.

Remember that commercial where Jordan clanked the iconic shot over Craig Ehlo?
Miami’s defense might not be that good. Between Herro, Rozier, and Duncan Robinson there’s suddenly a lot of liabilities and they’re big liabilities.
Trade still makes them better, and I’m sure Spo will make those issues mostly irrelevant somehow, but there’s a limit even to what he can do.
I’m also curious to see how Jaime Jaquez Jr. progresses, his 3pt shooting has fallen off and he’s suffering from a groin tweak of sorts (hmmm…does being a 6’6″ rookie phenom with movie star looks on the South Beach scene make that some kind of “overuse” injury?)
oh wow the bucks fired Adrian Griffin
Ahhh, yes, the Frank Ntilikina injury. He can’t score, on the other hand, he can score 😆
Movie star looks? I guess Adam Driver with a 1970’s porno moustache technically counts as a movie star.
He’s no Kelly Oubre, that’s for sure.
There’s gotta be a story there
and they’re leaking that Doc is the top candidate for the job ahahahaha
It always seemed like a bit of a trainwreck there, getting by just on pure talent, but yeah, still shocking.
Our championship equity just skyrocketed
Their SRS is worse than ours, but they’re 2nd in the East with a W-L that’s around where they should be. If there’s any major issues, it’s the lack of perimeter defenders, which isn’t on the coach.
Probably wants to spend more time on his ministry. Either that or the domestic violence/giving his wife STDs thing popping back up.
David Blatt got LeFired in 2016 after going 30-11, so stranger things have happened.
I think it might be a case of buyer’s remorse, in the sense that they likely considered Doc this offseason, and now they think Doc would have been the better pick.
Oh God does that mean Doris Burke will be the only analyst during the NBA Finals?
Mark Jackson at home, “I’m back, baby!”
Call me crazy but they never should have fired Budenholzer. The time out brainfart in the playoffs was bad but I heard his brother just passed.
Milwaukee should just hire Stotts back. He’s a good coach, knows how to maximize Lillard, and presumably left because he got in a fight with Griffin.
Griffin was obviously in way over his head, but Doc away from Boston (and away from Thibs) has rarely impressed me. The amount of blame-assigning he did in the later Philly years seems a less than ideal trait to bring to a talented team that is flailing at the moment.
The Bucks basically had first pick of all these coaches, and they went with Griffin over Nurse or anyone else. [Extremely fake Joe Girardi voice] It’s not what you want.
Trade your good defensive guard and lose depth -> Defense sucks -> Fire AJ Griffin -> Hire Doc -> Implode in the playoffs -> Disgruntled Giannis asks to leave?
The history of the NBA would be so damn different if KD’s foot was an inch shorter.
Very strange. Blatt at least lasted more than a season. If you go with a rookie coach, you’ve got to ride with him longer than 43 games regardless of the record. And if your record is 30-13, which is an improvement over the last two years’ records of 27-16 and 26-17 after 43 games there better be a very concrete reason.
By SRS, Net Rating and Pytag Record, the Bucks have been slightly worse than the Knicks (well, significantly worse according to SRS – 4.30 vs 2.87). They have had the second easiest schedule in the NBA so far.
I think that’s totally crazy. They are 30 and 13, despite their coach going through a family tragedy (the same one as AJ Griffin did). The ESPN article mentions how their defense has slipped since last year, but that’s on the front office, not the coach, since they did the Lillard trade and gave up a lot of defense in return for offense.
I think the NBA just wants some attention today lol
The Griffin firing is strange though. 2nd in the EC with a compromised defense due to FO moves is an accomplishment, not a reason to be fired. Not to mention that Middleton is not who he was due to injury. There’s gotta be something else goin on behind the scenes, because at this point in the season- no coach is gonna “save” that team. Giannis has got to be giving that FO some serious side-eye, especially with the season he’s having. He’s probably gotten more triple doubles this season than he has for the rest of his career so far lol.
Shit, what’s next? Jordan Pool getting traded for 3 1sts?? LOL
We have their pick next year. As is, they’re too talented for it to be good. But if things turn sour…
Even Don Nelson lasted longer with the Knicks than Griffin lasted with the Bucks.
Super weird. I really hope the Cucks don’t hire Doc now because of his “playoff experience.” It will be interesting to see if/how much they drop in the standings.
i just want to hear more of these kind of stories…
The Bucks = The Grass Isn’t Always Greener
If his foot was an inch shorter he might be in the GOAT conversation like he thinks he should be. 😉
I didn’t want Rozier. Anytime someone I didn’t want is taken off the table that’s good news.
If we don’t land one of the significant players that have been talked about because the prices are too steep, maybe we can pick up someone that can help a little in the buyout market. I am not familiar with the rules though.
I really wish I could have gone to those games, Bernie
“Trade your good defensive guard and lose depth -> Defense sucks -> Fire AJ Griffin -> Hire Doc -> Implode in the playoffs -> Disgruntled Giannis asks to leave?”
AJ Griffin was an NBA coach now?
I read that Giannis make some comments about the team not being prepared. He then softened it a little by including himself, but I thought it was pretty clear he was talking about Griffin. What Giannis wants Giannis gets, but it’s not always smart to give a player whatever he wants. Just ask the Lakers.
The Cucks. LOL Too bad it wasn’t on purpose.
Jordan Pool.
It’s getting worse and worse by the day.
It’s even weirder because all the reports in the offseason were that the Bucks were looking at Nurse, but Giannis pushed hard for Griffin to be hired… I guess he was either completely out of his depth and the players hated him, or there must be something else to this.
And then the immediate Doc Rivers rumors are insane, why the hell would they do this? Hiring the king of the second round chokejob?
Strat, the Knicks currently have two traded player exceptions, $6.8M from the Toppin trade and $5.2M from the Anunoby trade. They are over the cap, but $5.1M under the luxury tax. I think they can sign or trade for a player using one of those exceptions (they can’t combine them). How much they use of the excrption depends on whether they are willing to pay tax.
howdy strat…i hope all is well for you…
any wild and crazy horse racing stories?
no julius on the potential olympic roster…what’s up with that i wonder…
The difference between the Bucks’ SRS, net rating, etc. and their record is one of the more intriguing, under discussed stories if the season to me. It sounds like Griffin did not impress them whatsoever, but was hired because Giannis liked him. That’s all good and well–it’s a stars’ league and all that–but what must he think of them hiring his preferred coach, signing an extension…and then that coach getting fired half a season later?
I don’t want any Knicks on any exhibition rosters, such as that for the Olympics. It begs for either injuries or exhaustion to occur.
i agree doogie, you’re right…julius is our guy though, and talent and performance should have put him on the candidate roster, unless for some reason, he did not want to be on the roster…
Pacers upset Bucks in round 1, Giannis demands trade, Knicks trade Randle, Mitch, and all the picks for Giannis.
Editors have the worst senses of humor… it WAS on purpose, schmuck.
Nothing new. This is a slow time of the year for racing, but there are some good races in Florida this weekend at Gulfstream Park. I’ll be in action. I hope I do a little better than some of my under/over bets in basketball for the NBA season. I was wrong about a few things and had some terrible injury luck.
I have a great sense of humor, actually, and there is absolutely zero evidence for your generalization about editors. But what about the Bucks relates to them being called “Cucks” at this particular juncture? It has to make sense in order to actually be funny. Before we knew that it was on purpose, it was funny for that reason.
It is. That team has had a tendency to kind of rate itself until the 4th quarter and tighten things up in the 4th quarter. Their SRS wasn’t that impressive the previous 2 years also.
Don’t watch them much, but I’m guessing Dame & Giannis are better at pulling out the victory than their opponents in close games/they coast in the early parts.
Denver kinda did the same thing last year before turning the defense up a notch or two in the playoffs, not sure Milwaukee has the personnel on the perimeter to do it though.
Griffin was learning the ropes, and the Bucks have the 2nd best record in the league, so it seemed like no-harm no-foul. That said, he was really quite bad, leaving his audience scratching their heads a lot of the time. And there was the bizarre Stotts episode which was probably part of a larger problem.
I’m kinda pissed about this Heat trade. I think Rozier is going to kill it there, and I can’t get over that they got a starting PG averaging 23 & 6… a legit 3rd option… for the same price we paid for Josh friggin’ Hart.
Except it’s not?
Ok…as long as Quentin Grimes is untouchable.
Cucks rhymes with Bucks and they’re a team we play that we hope loses. It’s that simple!
I missed some of yesterday’s conversation due to out of control family issues.
Did anyone discuss the rumor that the Pacers have put Obi on the trade block?
Everyone said the Lillard trade was going to be more beneficial on the list season than the regular season, but it sure seems like Bucks management doesn’t believe it.
No. And this is the first I’ve heard of it. But given that they now have Siakem, maybe they think they don’t need Obi anymore.
What the hell is the list season?
Siakam
I like the deal for Miami. If Lowery is not done, he’s darn close. It makes them better now and over the next couple of years. The price paid seems OK to me.
I was not a fan of bringing Rozier to NY. So I’m not upset other than I think some of the teams in our tier are doing things to improve themselves also. I think we need to do more than just the OG trade or it’s at least possible we may lose ground given our injuries and weaknesses that the trade exposed.
He was initially the starter, but then started coming the bench more frequently. With Siakam he’s clearly back in the position he was in NY, but maybe even worse.

– Any teams that could use Obi? Maybe WAS or DET takes a flier?
– Mathurin has big RJ Barrett energy
– If you buy his shooting, Jalen Smith is an interesting player
– Hield… not sure what to make of him, offense is still good
It’s not necessarily that I wanted Rozier here, Strat. It’s that he’s perfect for Miami. When contenders trade first round picks, that’s why they usually get: a guy who’s going to be a top 3 or 4 player on their team. And when Leon trades a first round pick, he gets 7th man extraordinaire, Josh Hart. I’m sorry but that trade was terrible and continues to haunt us. Hart was worth one 2nd. Not even two. Portland probably still laughing their ass off they got a first for him. And we’re about to see a whole lot more trades that make it look even worse.
Lowry, not Lowery. But at least he’s not coming the bench, like Obi is. Sounds super painful.
Charlotte seems to be getting ready to rebuild around LaMelo and Miller. I wonder if they are going to buy out Gordon Hayward. He’s a Thibs favorite.
Continues to haunt us. We kicked ass after hart came to our team, won our first playoff series in a decade and are 9-2 the last 11 games with a good chance to be 10 games over 500 tonight.
Oh and we still have a boatload of picks and pretty much everyone agrees we’re well positioned to trade for a star this summer if available.
I’m not haunted at all. Also weird that you call him the 7th man on the team when he, in fact, averages the 6th most minutes. He averaged more per game than IQ and leads the bench in minutes by a country mile right now. He’s usually on the court if the game is close at the end.
He’s also a year younger than rozier and makes like half as much as rozier.
I also agree that while lowry might be done playing 20 minutes a night he could be perfectly cromulent for 10 to 15 a game.
Yes, this is how a joke works, Downtown Doogie Clown… did you get that one?
Yes, I get it. It’s just not funny at all, and it has nothing to do with my sense of humor. “Cucks” is a specific word that has nothing at all to do with basketball, so calling them that just because we hope they lose makes zero sense. You might as well call them the Milwaukee Stupids or the Milwaukee Clowns, because those make just as much sense (meaning none) and are just as unamusing. The fact that it rhymes doesn’t help. The Milwaukee Ducks? No; it’s still not funny.
It would be nice for Obi go to the Nets, since he’s from Brooklyn, but finding a good, young PG is more of a pressing concern for them. It’s tough because he’s having a great season shooting the ball, but no one will want to commit to his defensive shortcomings. And yet, since he’s in a contract year, maybe a bad team will take a flier on him…
Love this one!
Cucks is always funny especially after they cucked their coach.
“the Milwaukee Stupids
Love this one!”
Yes, I figured that you would.
