Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks vs. Wizards (OG 48 Minute Challenge Opener, which is not a thing)

The Knicks host the awful Washington Wizards tonight, with Josh Hart missing the game. Can OG play 48 minutes?

Let us find out (you would hope that the Knicks would be up so big that OG could rest the end of the game, but we shall see)!

Let’s go, Knicks!

That alt “Thursday Night Knicks” theme song with Robert Randolph on slide ukulele is surprisingly good! Let’s go!

Wow that ia Marvin Bagley starting for the Wizards, I had no idea he was even there to begin with.

Gotta believe Randle likes his “new” mandate to release early from defensive assignments 😉

I’m just gonna say it: I do not think that guy should’ve named his daughter “Knicks”

Calling in protective services would not be out of the question

If Grimes would just hit his shots, he would eliminate like 70% of our posts so far this year.

E4 on the court! Must be b/c I’m drinking Pernod.

Guess we’ll get to test the “can’t we just use Fournier as the bench usage guy” theory. Early returns not good.

This is a perfect opportunity to use DDV with the bench unit, no reason he shouldn’t be back in already for Fournier.

I don’t know why Thibs is allergic to playing DDV with the bench. It makes too much sense.

Yeah, re Devo, was gonna say same. In my paranoid mind, I think he has the shortest leash from Thibs at the moment — of the regulars.

I don’t know if Thibs practices any sets for the bench lineup. Do they run any plays at all?

The Knicks are playing like they don’t give a fuck and have no respect whatsoever for the Wizards.

Man, I’ve coached rec teams of 10 year olds that shot better than these twin teams tonight. It’s amazing how we play up (or down) to the competition.

When Breen stops play-by-play to start asking Clyde about his high school football and baseball career you know there’s a giant turd being laid on the court.

Randle’s contract has a clause that says he must take the last shot of every quarter

When the sunniest announcer in the league says outright, “This is one ugly half” … hahaha.

it fees like julius hit the wall weeks ago…

i don’t get it…isn’t evian like some kind of secondary ball handler whom sort of creates for the french second unit…

does he really suck with the ball in his hand this much?

nothing from the bench…

edit: next to nothing from the bench…

Hopefully this is a repeat of last night and the Knicks take control in the 2nd half to finish with another double digit win.

It’s halftime at the Yorba Linda Community Center. The winner of tonight’s Waffle House Breakfast raffle is #6584. And if you are the owner of a gray Nissan in the parking lot, your lights are on.

Our offense is soooo ugly some nights. Dribble dribble dribble chuck or pass. There’s very little “purposeful” movement and passing.

Maybe they were out celebrating Thibs’ birthday after the game last night

Laps for everyone till 2AM!!

Remember during preseason Thibs was asked about spending time in Miami during the offseason and he said he was there for the clubbing!

Thibs is can’t do this to OG. It’s ridiculous. He might play 44 minutes tonight. On the second night of a back to back.

He’s using him like the Brewers did CC in 2008. Except he is expected to stay with the team next year.

This is hard to watch. They are either exhausted from the Thibs minutes abuse and B2B or took these guys too lightly and now can’t snap out of it.

And here I thought Donte was having his come back to Earth game… he just doesn’t have bad shooting games

Thibs won’t do it, but he really should just sit Randle the rest of the game

Maybe we should sit Thibs

I can get behind this lineup. But isn’t Grimes a “stopper”? Or did I imagine that?

EDIT: Should have let it play longer, but Randle is back, and iHart.
EDIT2: Refs saying iHart should sit longer, overruling Thibs for us.

Brunson forces shots sometimes when he has someone wide open. He has a bit of tunnel vision once he makes up his mind he wants to score.

Randle comes in and it all goes to shit

(and I’m not a Randle hater but he’s been horrendous tonight and should be sitting)

Why is Grimes still in?

Why are any of us still watching this dumpster fire of a game?! It’s a Hard Knicks Life

Brunson limping. 🙄

Right b/c what we really need is Brunson’s Willis-Reed-esque heroics to beat the #30 defense. What the actual F!

Thank you for this, Clyde’s Suit.

I briefly switched over to Everybody Loves Raymond reruns but I had to return to watching the Knicks game.

We’ve gotta trade for Brogdon TONIGHT.

Not persuaded by 2/13 for 7 points? #KNICKSBENCHMOB

When is the all star break? I think Brunson is ok but he needs a week off to recover.

Upgrade the bench now, and upgrade Randle in the offseason if someone shakes free. That should be enough.

I know most trades don’t happen until the deadline or close to it but we pretty urgently need to get a capable bench guy or two in the building. It’s not great to play all the starters 40+ minutes against the Wizards in January.

So if Brunson is ever out for an extended period of time , do we make the play in?

Not sure I’d stick around to find out.

What’s with the referees?

We’ll, they’re referring to the Wizards by their first names for some reason

Thibs is going to destroy OG’s legs by March. It’s ridiculous at this point.

We won and never need to speak of this game again (unless we’re talking about Brunson, nothing else)

Damn I missed the game but Thibs playing the starters 40 mins?! Jesus Christ

OG with 19 pts on 9 FGA. Granted playing 43 mins would’ve liked a few more FGA…

Oof. Onward. Saturday!

So nice we post it twice: 2/13 for 7 points. #KNICKSBENCHMOB

“Damn I missed the game but Thibs playing the starters 40 mins?! Jesus Christ
”

In this game, it was that or lose to one of the worst teams in the NBA on our home court.

5 points from the bench

Randle

Og

Brunson

40 minutes

Call up duane washintton jr

Grimes has to be affected by the trade rumors, he couldn’t hit water sitting on a toilet…

Randle made two big shots at the end, but he really seemed more weirdly out of sorts tonight than ever. Maybe he was bummed that they never had a Kentucky night…

Surprised by iHart’s stats tonight, felt like he got dominated by Bagley but he still filled up the box score as has been his routine this month.

Via @statmamba

OG Anunoby is a +173 in his first 10 games with the Knicks.

That’s the highest +/- through the first 10 games with any team in NBA history.

If Brunson isn’t an All Star this season it’ll be an absolute travesty.

As for the rest of this game… well, I’d rather forget it ever happened to be honest. We need help on the bench asap.

I do worry about Brunson’s health, the guy just takes a beating out there.

Reminds me a little of Iverson back in the day

I really should have gone with “Second Half Opener.” A missed opportunity!

I know it’s only one game, but the Wizards getting pick compensation to take Bagley looks like a robbery. He looked good tonight and is still young enough to put it all together.

We all knew (or should have known) the bench was going to be a huge problem post trade. We lost two high usage scorers from the bench unit and one was the PG. Leon better do something soon or we are going to have a few starters dragging ass by playoff time. No one should ever play more than 40 minutes of physical basketball back to back.

The problem with Bagley is also that he’s never been able to stay healthy in 6 seasons, the most games played he ever had in a season was 62 in his rookie year.

It’s not like the Wizards have anything better to do than give him a chance, so I guess I like it for them, but he’s been mediocre and unavailable for 6 years already at this point.

Brunson> Iverson

I have said this 15 times but the contrast between OG and RJ is so stark. OG is a true live wire athlete and he plays great defense. He is just smarter out there too.

No one should ever play more than 40 minutes of physical basketball back to back.

How is it that a professional basketball coach with decades of experience does not know this? I mean I know how, but wow.

Josh Hart not playing tonight had a huge affect on the bench play and starters minutes.

OG is a true live wire athlete and he plays great defense.

There were a couple of fast break transitions from D to O where I thought OG was by far the fastest guy on the floor. He just seemed to lap everyone with long “calm” strides. Guys on both teams looked like children to me.

Allen Iverson played 914 games in his NBA career and he averaged 41.1 minutes per game!

Allen Iverson played 914 games in his NBA career and he averaged 41.1 minutes per game!

Yes. Okay. Point taken. But maybe we don’t need to use that as a model for *all our players 😉

EDIT: and for the last 10 years no league leader has averaged 40 or more.

Bagley is underrated

Edit: Very underrated

If I were a Pistons fan and watched this game, I’d be very very pissed. Bagley had a bunch of misses on offense but his defense was a big help in holding the Knicks to 73 points through the first three quarters and giving the Wizards a good shot at winning. And they paid to get rid of him. And his contract of $12.5M isn’t that unaffordable.

I mean, the Pistons are so badly ran that they gave Bagley this contract in 2022, then traded him away now to solve a “logjam” they created themselves by trading for Wiseman and drafting Duren, and now they also added Muscala to play on the same position.

We’ve seen ineptitude very closely, but the way this Detroit team has been ran for the past couple of years is impressively terrible even for our very low standards.

Yeah, but he took practices off.

If I were a Pistons fan and watched this game, I’d be very very pissed.

A) you’d be a Pistons fan, so you’d be very very pissed whether you watched this game or not.

B) at least you wouldn’t have to think “we could have had Doncic!”
