Sorry to hear you’re under the weather KNY. Feel better!

Got nuthin’ today on the Knicks. Wish the season was starting.

Thibs really likes Toppin huh? I’m shocked that both Knight and Roby got waived before a guy like Toppin. I’m even more shocked that Martin got waived. Maybe he makes it to Westchester. So..our roster is set- apart from bottom of roster churning over the next few days like Leon usually does. Are Toppin and Windler actually gonna make it onto the Knicks roster? And who makes that very last spot between 2 guys Thibs loves in Jeffries and Arcidiacono?

Not gonna lie- it’s actually kinda nice to know who your team is gonna be comprised of like we did in the 90’s, and be able to count on them actually performing well. Cmon 10/25!

Okay, tidbits from Hollinger’s review of the Knicks in his piece on the top 7 teams in the east:

The Knicks are a tough team to model because three of their projected starters aren’t among their five most effective per-minute players. On the other hand, this is the best second unit in the league when the starters are healthy, and it’s not even close. Josh Hart, Immanuel Quickley and Isaiah Hartenstein all project as starter-quality players by BORG, and in fact grade out much better than starters Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson.

That said, somebody on this team needs to provide shooting with the first group, which is why Grimes starts. Additionally, it’s not clear how Hartenstein scales up against starters, while Robinson dominated Cleveland in the playoffs. Barrett, of course, is 23 and (hopefully) still improving, especially if he can reverse last season’s shooting regression.

    Barrett, of course, is 23

And it is well known NBA players rarely show what they are capable of before that age.

Surprised he thinks Hartenstein is better than Mitch. I don’t agree but I do think we are lucky to have him as our backup center.

I thought Toppin looked remarkably good in the pre season game where I saw him play. He defended and rebounded well. Those are qualities Thibs likes. I’m not totally surprised he is still here. But there are still a few days to go.

Not a big Hollinger fan, but his rankings are a lot closer to what I’m predicting than most others. In particular people overrate the Heat and underrate Cleveland.

Philadelphia is a big ole question mark. It’s really difficult to imagine what their season will look like.

I don’t get to see enough of these end of bench players to know who really deserves to stay, but I feel politics matter. The little I’ve seen of Arcidiacono doesn’t explain why he’s still here, but his relationship with Brunson, Hart, and DDV does. Maybe Toppin deserves a spot, but I like what I saw from Roby, and he’s gone.

Owen, I don’t think he’s saying iHart is better than Mitch, just that whatever his metrics are show iHart doing better, which as he intimates in the second paragraph is likely due to going against bench players.

It’s a good point about Roby. He looked reasonable as an end-of-bench player and got more minutes than Toppin did. The Knicks attitude toward their scrubs is hard to understand. But I’m not sure it’s politics. Thibs seems to want players that okay hard in practice. We don’t see the practices so we can’t judge how those go.

Are Toppin and Windler actually gonna make it onto the Knicks roster? And who makes that very last spot between 2 guys Thibs loves in Jeffries and Arcidiacono?

To clarify, there’s no need to choose between Jeffries and Archie. Jeffries is currently on the 15 man roster, although on a non-guaranteed deal, and after waiving Roby we have 2 open spots.

It’s hard to get excited about Exhibit 10 deals for older players. OTOH the Westchester Knicks are back to playing at the County Center, 15 minutes from where I live, so hopefully they can acquire some players worth watching. Although I just checked ticket prices…stoopid.

Yeah, Exhibit 10 are much closer to be playing here in Portugal than in the NBA. How much are the tickets? Don’t forget it’s for a good cause, it’s to make Dolan even richer! 😀

    He defended and rebounded well.

This is interesting. I seem to remember an article about brothers in the NBA and how they often have opposite skill sets where one is good on offense and the other on defense because when they’re little they play against each other, so one develops better on one end than the other. I wonder if this is the case with the Toppin brothers.

Cyber, It’s a really small rectangular venue with two levels, mostly good viewing angles. Prices are mainly in the $30-60 range, courtside $100+.

Toppin is the only player capable of turning into a long wing defender, he’s also a couple years younger than the other guys. So if you’re not comfortable playing Roby or Knight, then Toppin is the guy to keep.

Finally, now that the last game of the preseason is over it’s on to the actual season…

    …any minute now…

…yup, the regular season is basically here…

    …god this is a stupid schedule…

Every day you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart

    🤘🤘

Houston is looking good against Miami in preseason and it looks like it’s the starters playing. I’m beating the drum for the Rockets. I think they are going to be much better than generally expected.

    Thanks for the wishes guys!
After 6 days of pure rest and 3 knicks preseason soups I’m finally fine!
Appetite for beer and music speak louder than thermometers and rapid tests!

I really don’t remember a preseason having less juice than this one.

It’s just the nature of this particular team. Unless they seriously just fall apart (which seems unlikely), this will be basically last year’s team, so it’s really just about waiting to see if they can play better in the playoffs. So there’s no real storyline about the team. Last offseason, they just added Brunson and iHart and a Donovon Mitchell trade seemed very possible (and then when it didn’t happen, we got to debate the lack of a trade), plus RJ got his extension. Just so many more stories last offseason. This one is just dull as fuck, and they didn’t even play interesting preseason games, so we didn’t even have that to enjoy. Plus the scheduling is terrible. Simply an awful preseason in terms of getting people interested in talking about stuff.

By the way, is anyone interested in a win prediction thread?

As Early Bird alluded to, we still have toooooooons of time before the actual season starts. We’ll definitely have a wins prediction thread before then.

Houston is looking good against Miami in preseason and it looks like it’s the starters playing. I’m beating the drum for the Rockets. I think they are going to be much better than generally expected.

The Rockets also got humiliated by the Spurs several days ago. They will definately be a more deciplined team this season but I think it’s still a long way to go.
