From the news bot I see we have replaced the video guy we lost to the Raptors with a video guy from the Bucks. First step in prying Giannis loose in case the trade for Joel doesn’t materialise. Leon always thinking two steps ahead.

    One last post on politics.

This is just my analysis of republican politics, not national politics, or my preference.

I listen to a lot of republican/conservative podcasts in my car when I’m on the road. I have a pretty good feel for what’s going on.

Vivek knows he has almost ZERO shot at the nomination. What he’s doing is trying to get in the good graces of Trump voters and set himself up for the future. That’s why he refuses to criticize Trump publicly now.

Trump voters are a mix of republicans that are tired of the establishment RINOs, blue collar and union workers that used to be democrats that got killed by free trade, libertarians that don’t want to spend trillions on wars over natural resources and a desire for US hegemony, people that think the CIA, FBI, FDA, FED and many other government institutions are so corrupt they need to be gutted, oil, gas, and other energy interests, and social conservatives.

    This is his plan.

If Trump wins the nomination, he’s on the short list for Vice President or gets a very major job in the administration. His career is launched.

If Trump loses the nomination, is forced to drop out, or is in prison, someone like DeSantis will get the nomination but he’s the heir apparent to that new Trump coalition going forward that’s a mix of republicans and former blue collar democrats.

IMO the idea that Christians won’t vote for him because of his nationality or religion is not correct. Those people care way more about your policies on social issues than what what color, nationality, or religion you are. The subset that’s still backwards enough to DQ him on that is very small. That idea is mostly media propaganda. At worst they would hold their nose and vote for him over someone that didn’t share their belief in God and their values. When he’s on more Christian leaning podcasts like Steven Deace and other Blaze podcasts he’s very popular even though DeSantis is their preference.

Ramaswamy combines all the personal insufferableness, terrible economic opinions, and child like naivety of a replacement level tech bro with the retrograde social views needed to compete in a GOP primary. What a schmuck. Thank god he’ll never be President.

I’ll just re-quote Knicksfan’s statement from last night, as it perfectly sums up my opinion of the entire field (and a considerable subsection of humanity):

‘I don’t see how you can like a candidate who is in favor of world destruction.’

After a long, slow decline, our beloved dog took a turn for the worse in the last couple of days, and while he might have hung on a bit longer, we thought it would be best for him to have him put down this morning. He had a long, happy life…we got him back in 2008, around the time that Isiah got fired. We had someone from Lap of Love come to our home to take care of it, definitely helped us get through it, worth every penny. But very, very tough no matter how you slice it.

Rhetoric aside, there are very few differences in reality between the two parties. I’m confident that most of us can’t stomach voting for either of the two old farts again next November.

With respect to Vivek and climate, he said that the “climate agenda is a hoax” – he’s not saying that climate is not changing and that it’s not going to disrupt million of lives because it is. He says that the current proposed carbon tax and regulatory solutions are a growing grift industry pushed for personal gains of a few and that it has nothing to do with the actual climate, which is changing due to human despicable activity. Classifying him as a right wing cadidate in favor of world destruction is wrong.

Z-man, may I ask the dog’s name (don’t reply if it is Wilt)? Helps when replies are not “your dog”.

So sorry Z-Man, have had dogs my whole life and know how tough these days are. You absolutely made the right decision and sounds like you gave him a long, great life.

Z-man, – I feel you, brother. Had to do the same earlier this year. Life is not the same without Oakley. Miss him dearly…

This is good news for the Knicks.

Harden is a very difficult guy. I wouldn’t want him on my team, …

I couldn’t agree more! He leaves a trail of destruction in his wake.

I was just thinking about how much I missed the political discourse on Knickerblogger, said absolutely no one.

Hubert’s approval rating is really surging this offseason.

Thanks guys! EB, Gus was a smallish cockapoo (pretty unique looking, multi-colored sable…more spaniel than poodle). He was as pampered and spoiled as a dog could be, especially when it came to food, thanks mostly to my nutty wife (sorry BE, I’m not giving you her name). He generally ate Boar’s Head turkey, Bell & Evans chicken, sauteed ground sirloin and assorted other table food and dog treats. This indulgence led to Gum making table begging an art form, and on the nights when we ate steak, he would frantically whine and scratch until he got his fill of scraps handed down to him! Even yesterday when he had mostly lost interest in food, he happily woofed down a bunch of vanilla ice cream spoon fed to him by his mom, and his last meal this morning was his beloved fresh cooked bacon.

We’ll probably wait a while before adopting our next pooch…it made travel difficult, especially once he got old and needy…but the house already seems incomplete without that bundle of unconditional love, loyalty and childish innocence getting underfoot and minding the door.

Gus Johnson? How could you? Have prepped my dearly departed Bruce to take care of him.

With embarrassed apologies to Hubert, I will make one comment to DirectorNYC, as his position makes me a little crazy, because it ain’t the guy at the top, which is indeed all standard-bearing and rhetoric. It’s the people he puts in place, whether it’s the head of the EPA or justices or on and on. it’s the people putting the rhetoric into practice. Like Betsy DeVos to fix our education problems. That’s who you are voting for. Or against, if need be.

    Sorry about the dog also.

Agree on Hubert. Must have a model girlfriend.

Oakley is an elite dog name. Makes me want to get one.

Oakley is an elite dog name. Makes me want to get one.

Makes me want to have another kid. I’ve already got a son named Xavier; one more boy and I’ve got the ’92 front line.

Thanks, Hubert. Especially because now I can post about basketball!

My two favorite bits from that article:

“In that context, it’s easier to understand why Trae Young, who just led the NBA in dribbles per touch and totaled a whopping 12 cuts in 73 games playing alongside Dejounte Murray, was snubbed.”

    and

“RJ Barrett put up 31 points on 13 shots in a victory against Germany.”

Arguably I’m most upset bc you guys failed to start an off topic discussion in the proper manner. For example…

I know this isn’t Giantsblogger, but I love the Isaiah Simmons acquisition.

A couple years ago I wanted him with the 4th pick in the draft, which was used – to my dismay – on Andrew Thomas.

Thomas is great now, and we got Simmons for a 7th.

i watched the debate show…interesting theatrics…pence was intense, which was both scary and amusing at the same time…

man, i don’t even hardly follow politics anymore, i know enough to know joe biden has got a good bit of legislature through since he got in…joe knows how to get shit done in the swamp…joe is the swamp…swamp thing swamp on…

i was curious to hear what the major “concerns” amongst conservatives were…
    – fentanyl, somehow building some wall thing system and engaging american soldiers at the border is gonna solve the opioid crisis in new hampshire and north dakota…that’s some medieval thinking there…

    – no one cares what the gov from florida says…the guy is a complete wack job who basically stated he would institute federal marshal law as soon as possible…what a lunatic…follow that with some school system including “american” indoctrination…actually – that one may not be so crazy…

worse than that – desantis has clammy hand low charisma…

    – best line of the night, by jersey gov: booing doesn’t change the truth

    – i could see haley as trump’s vp choice…she sounds sane at least…

    – tim scott is both accomplished and incredibly disappointing…

    – the vivek guy just makes me think how much money there must be in politics…fertile ground for a soulless capital…it’s like any second you’re waiting for him to blurt out: hey listen, i’ll say anything to be popular and get paid

and then smile at you afterwards…

Agreed, Hubert. I was similarly seduced by Simmons’ athleticism and disappointed with the Thomas pick. Obviously, I was very wrong. But for a 7th, with the hope Wink can unlock him? Sign me the hell up.

Raven, I see your point and you’re right. Justice picks matter, – but 2016-2020 was a statistical anomoly. In my view, both parties are bought and paid for my mostly the same players. They only differ on the margins and those (non-rhetoric) actual differences tend to be imaterial to the realities of the day-to-day life of a median working class person/family.

I know this isn’t Doggerblogger, but my condolences, Z-Man. Here is my way-too-early dog breed ranking for 2023-24:

    1. Lab
    2. Great Dane
    3. Border Collie
    4. German Shepherd (white)
    5. Vizsla
    6. Pit
    7. Burmese Mountain Dog
    8. Weimaraner
    9. Belgian Shepherd
    10. Carolina Dog

What’s your temperature on Evan Neal, Alan?

I don’t watch enough games to have a good sense of him and there’s not much word out in the media. My sense is that we got unlucky with that draft and ended up with a low return on the pick that was used for Justin Fields.

sorry z-man, it’s hell. last time, i waited too long to get another dog because it seemed so painful.

Geo: I love bulldogs but their health issues are rough. In fact, many smaller breeds have them—or else attitude problems lol. But we all have our biases.

I let my wife dog free for too long after 15 years with the mini schnauzer. When I came home with the cavachon it was to late. Fortunately the puppy bonded with son’s girlfriend. They split but we kept the girlfriend and dog.

“I don’t want to be 20 years on the same team and don’t win another championship,” he said.”

I’ll forgive Giannis, as Engish is not his first language, or even his second. He speaks better in English than I ever will in either Greek or Nigerian.

Yeah, no edit function anymore. “English,” not “Engish.” Damn multi-tasking.

I am not that worried about Neal yet. I hope. By all accounts, two things are true: 1)His issues are mechanical and eminently correctable, mostly involving his stance and some leverage things; and 2)He is a hard-working gym rat type.

I am not expecting some kind of Andrew Thomas-esque leap, but he already looked substantially better in the last preseason game than he did at any point last year, and he’s already a complete load in the run game. On the whole, I’m much more worried about our guards than Neal or John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmitz.

I can’t believe we are back in another election cycle, the past two years went way too fast. My goal was to not ever have heard of any of the candidates come (including Trump, of course, whom I had hoped to forget existed altogether). That said, people have been texting me about this Ramasmarmy guy lately, and I finally responded to them by cutting-and-pasting TNFH’s above post and hitting send. That was one of my favorite pre-draft summaries ever written about a politician.

the fucked up thing is the election isn’t even this year we got another 14 months of this shit

oh yeah, the other thing i learned from the debate was this hatred for teacher’s unions…

worse thing ever for children, teacher’s unions…i had no idea…

the fucked up thing is the election isn’t even this year we got another 14 months of this shit

It’s actually really easy to opt out of “this shit”. You can start by not bringing it where it doesn’t belong, like to a basketball blog, for example.

This is my opinion on politics:

I can not understand why any person, Democrat or Republican wants government to be bigger and have more influence on their everyday life when you’re constantly pissed when your side isn’t in control. I want those corrupt pieces of garbage to have as close to 0 influence on my life as possible. I understand we need some government, but why people want to give them more and more power is beyond me. Every damn election leads to these assholes giving themselves more “mandates” to tell us all what to do with our lives. Fuck that and all of them.

I’ve come to realize, albeit slowly, that I don’t need to respond every time somebody says some dumb shit. It has resulted in a lot more free time for myself.

I just can’t believe this thing that I bring with me everywhere I go is always around me. This morning, I put it in my bag, I brought it to my office, I placed it on my desk, and now it’s here! I can’t get away from it!!

fiba world cup kicks off tomorrow…

canada and france highlight the first day of matches…looks like espn + and espn2 will be the broadcast/streaming sites…

I also just realized that I don’t need to respond to everything people say. Now, no one defend Eddy Curry.

I think a Rhodesian Ridgeback has to be much higher. Anything you use to hunt a lion has a super high BPM.
