👏👏👏
What a great season so far. 🙂 Let’s hope Randle is OK for the playoffs and i think we’re miles better than the 2020-21 team. I’m hoping to win one series, but if we take the Cavs to game 7, that’ll be a fantastic season too.
Oh, btw, we have another thing going for us in comparison to 2020-21 – the Knicks are much better at the 4th/5th series if they are the 5th seed. 😉
OKC lost, so we’ll know tonight if the Mavs are still fighting for the play-in or not. I think they are. Of course the other question is: can they fight for it? 😀
And i have bad news for CDiggy. If the Lakers win the remaining 3 games – @LAC, PHO, UTA (all at their home arena) – they’ll be the 5th seed because they’ll at least tie with the Warriors (and they have the tiebreaker) and be ahead of the Clippers because they’re tied with them and they have a matchup tonight. I’ll be rooting for Kawhi to show them who rules LA, but with AD and Lebron healthy, it’s not a lock to happen.
About tonight, i hope Thibs eases the workload of the starters a bit, plays Obi and Deuce a lot of minutes. And maybe gives spot minutes to Fournier, Rose and Sims. That way if we need them in the playoffs because of injuries, they’ll be a little less rusty.
I’m very happy we clinch the 5th seed!
Now I can go “rest managing” for 10 days… 😀
My only hopes for the remaining 3 games is we keep the momentum up, and considering the remaining games are totally winnable- I hope the main rotation starts strong enough to allow Thibs to use more of the bench for the final 3. And obviously, I hope the Mavs win out lol
We have literally NOTHING to play for in the last 3 games.
Not easing the starters’ workload, especially with players banged up like JB, would indicate a pathology and I think Bearded Thibs is smarter about this…
“Winning is more fun than fun is fun.”
-Thibs tonight after he plays Jalen Brunson 40 minutes in a blowout that was already meaningless
Let’s hope Thibs doesn’t play anyone important more than a few minutes to stay sharp or at all. We don’t need any more injuries.
Via mavsmoneyball
“Luka Doncic confirmed on Tuesday after practice that he plans to play against the Kings on Wednesday and told reporters “when there’s still a chance, I’m going to play.” The Mavericks currently list Dončić (left thigh injury recovery) and Kyrie Irving (right foot injury recovery) as probable for Wednesday’s home game.”
At least Brunson needs to be load managed, we need him completely healthy for the playoffs. Give him a couple of minutes here and there on those games so he won’t get too rusty, but nothing more than 20 minutes a game at most.
“…but nothing more than 20 minutes a game at most.”
This made me chuckle. Over/under on this, anybody?
Now that we have the 5th seed, I would shut Brunson and Mitch down. Brunson is already dinged up enough and Mitch is very injury prone. Why take the risk of further injury?
Do the Knicks hold the tiebreaker with the Nets?
Shutting down Brunson completely until the playoffs makes so much sense. If he is unavailable for a playoff game we lose not only his production but a sort of insurance policy on bad/hot-tempered Julius being kept in check.
And then I would give the keys to RJ. See if he can get some momentum going into the playoffs. We need a slightly better than league average RJ (given he is going to get his 30minutes per game) to have a decent chance of advancing to the second round.
Do the Knicks hold the tiebreaker with the Nets?
Yes, though it could be that you may have to go to the 4th or 5th tiebreaker (which I think is record against playoff teams or playoff and play in teams)
I didn’t check the details but the Cavs-Knicks (4th-5th) matchup has been officially announced by many news outlet and blogs so I took for granted they do.
After Kyrie trade and KD injury, I knew Knicks would be 5 or 6 seed. Think Knicks were 8 seed at the time. Expected Miami to beat out Broklyn and compete with us for the 5 seed. Weird that Pat, Spoelstra and Jimmy haven’t been able to solve their problems all year. If they can get into that 6th seed, they match up well against Philla.
The Knicks 100% own the tiebreaker. If we lost out and the Nets won out, we’d have tied H2H record, tied division record, tied conference record. It would go to record vs. playoff teams in the EC, which we have a significantly better record than them. It’s a done deal.
Brunson was declared OUT for tonight game.
Thanks everyone, great to hear it’s a done deal, and great to see Thibs is not being stupid about Brunson’s health.
Fingers crossed that we somehow get The Trevor Keels Game before this season is done.
“Right hand maintenance” is just a wonderful phrase.
Looks like Brunson will be very heavily load managed for the rest of the season, if not out for the rest of it. Good.
Macri’s newsletter today raises a question I’ve thought about–do teams that play at a slower pace have more playoff success, owing to the low-hanging fruit being taken away in the playoffs?
tl;dr there’s not *overwhelming* evidence to that effect, but in recent years slower paced teams have had moderately more playoff success. Worth monitoring, both for the Knicks this year and as a general trend.
Also, a very fun Katz read: https://theathletic.com/4382020/2023/04/05/mitchell-robinson-knicks-fun/
Lastly, the Babe Ruth of the Knicks beat talking about how Randle’s absence could wind up helping us if he’s able to make it back: https://www.si.com/nba/2023/04/04/julius-randle-injury-jalen-brunson-knicks-playoffs
Tip of the hat to Thibs, who coached his ass off this season. He got everything he could out of this roster, got us to the 5 seed. No notes.
Shitposting before the playoffs start and the postseason off-topic moratorium begins.

Just added the SB59v on the right. Eastman is my daddy. Have an SB55dc/v on the way, too…
What is this?? 😮 Maybe Bearded Thibs is a improved Thibs’ clone and not Thibs himself. The beard is to mask imperfections. 😀
Thibs has been amazing since the 9-man rotation change. I only don’t say he’ll win COTY because that’ll probably be Mike Brown.
“Just added the SB59v on the right. Eastman is my daddy. Have an SB55dc/v on the way, too…”
Congrats. That’s a beautiful 1st, 2nd and 3rd option. Major finals contender right there.
Thibs is peaking at the right time. We’ll need all the help we can get against a healthy Cavs defense.
I agree with Chris Herring in that I think the playoff series against Atlanta is less relevant now because Atlanta was able to successfully double and wall off Randle. They dared the rest of the team to beat them and we didn’t have enough firepower or experience to overcome it. Randle forced things badly. In fact, that’s what lead to the ill-fated decision to add Fournier and take a flier on Walker. It was obvious from that series Randle needed help scoring, but they couldn’t land anyone significant. So they went with plan B and C. This time around we are a bit more mature and much deeper. However, if Randle is not back and healthy, I could see the Cavs trying to focus on Brunson to slow him down. Fortunately, I don’t think the guards are where the Cavs defensive strength lies. But I do think we need to be healthy to beat the Cavs.
Stratomatic is back!
Feels so strange to have like 15 days where not much will happen of import. Fine with it but it’s odd.

Keegan Murray is the first rookie with 200 3PM in a season. Dude came off the blocks with a >.600 TS%…
Kings look set for years. They still should have traded Fox instead of Tyrese.
Crazy stat: they have exactly one rotation player (Davion Mitchell) with a negative TSAdd/TS+.
I’m gearing up for the next chess world championship. It’s strange that I can get so exited about a game I never studied hard and rarely play.
I know just enough to understand most of the live analysis.
I’ve been critical of Nepo’s ability to avoid blunders under major championship pressure and I’ve been a big fan of Liren. I expected him to give Carlsen all he could handle until Carlsen bowed out. But Nepo has been playing really well and I’m not sure Liren has been as sharp recently as he was pre pandemic. I think I may be leaning towards Nepo with that previous championship experience under his belt.
is there a special couch store for rare proportion mutations
okoro is a far cry from randle, but if his knee keeps him out it’s a modest positive. he’s probably their best choice to defend brunson, with garland on grimes and mitchell on rj. they probably don’t start out this way, but they’d eventually try it out if brunson started reprising the utah series. dean wade isn’t going to take that role.
Nice, Jowles. The Eastman version of the Les Paul looks a lot like my Les Paul Traditional that I got in 2016. Hardware, pickups and finish look very similar. My LP is my workhorse guitar, unspectacular but solid. Probably my most used guitar. The LP Junior copy that Eastman makes looks nice. I don’t really have a guitar right now with a P90 in it, that’s kind of like my #1 need at the moment.
I also kind of want a shred guitar, like an Ibanez or something, so I can play some metal. I get requests for that sort of thing sometimes and I always have to borrow somebody’s shred guitar with the Floyd Rose on it. I’m in the process of starting a SoundBetter page just to make some extra pocket money so I can buy more guitars and synthesizers. There are so many drool-worthy analog synths out there right now.
I’m looking at the Eastman website, and I see that several of my friends/colleagues endorse those guitars, a couple of whom are extreme guitar snobs. I wonder if Eastman would swag me out with one. I need a manager.
They wouldn’t have gotten Sabonis for Fox, though.
If you don’t need a neck pickup, you can’t go wrong with an Eastman SB55. The resonance is crazy. Find a shop in LA that has one and go fall in love. It’s THAT good. Feels like Gibson Custom Shop.
I bought a Juno 60 in mint condition with a flight case for $500 in 2013. Sold it a few years ago for $2500, which I think would be a steal in today’s market. And that said, the new analog synths do the Juno 60 just as well as it does. So many good options. Hell, I’ve heard good things about the Behringer.
It’s just strange that you get excited to watch 20 consecutive draws in classical time controls. Unbelievably boring. It’s all theory for the first, like, 40 moves.
You wanna see fireworks? Watch Chess960 or Blitz Championships. Or Hikaru speedrunning the goddamn Bongcloud Opening up to 3000 blitz ELO. THAT is the good shit.
We may be re-signing Eldfrid Payton to play out the string but you guys want to talk guitars. SMH.
And Fox has turned out to be awfully good, too. What seemed like a calamitous trade instead perfectly rebalanced their roster and let both Fox and Hali have the keys to their own respective teams.
I think Sacto would still gladly swap Fox for Hali if they could, though.
I still have my Juno 6 that I got for Christmas in 1983!
Sure. I’m just saying that I would much rather have Fox and Sabonis than Fox and Hali. And if you assume Indiana wouldn’t have made that deal for Fox, then it becomes whether you’d rather have Hali and whatever you could have gotten a year ago for Fox, at a moment when his value was depressed. (And has arguably been raised by getting to play alongside such a complementary piece.)
