Brunson is doubtful, Dame and Grant are questionable. We need to win the game either way, but if those two don’t play, it’ll be hard to swallow if we don’t win. My candidate for the Lord Sumner award is proven superstar Cam Reddish. 😀

We gotta win tonight but also, maybe rest Mitch? No Brunson and no mitch would be tough but I still feel like we can beat Portland even without those 2, especially if Dame is also not playing. Sims has filled in admirably. Time to lean on him again.

We gotta be smart about getting rest for our key dudes. A hobbled Mitch and Brunson in the playoffs will mean a first round exit no matter who we face.

In non-basketball news, we have over a foot of snow from last night, with another 8″ on the way. What a mess!

“In non-basketball news, we have over a foot of snow from last night, with another 8″ on the way. What a mess!”

I’m not a fan of March snow, to say the least.

    ***Dame and Grant are questionable***

That makes Donnie questionable tonight, too.

(Btw, if you think the Knicks need this one, the Blazers REALLY need this one, so Lillard will probably play. (Unless they are trying to keep their pick, in which case he won’t play I suppose. But that would be cheesy, seeing as they are only 2 back and all the teams in front of them are fading)).

The good news schedule wise is that if we can pull off the win tonight our next game isn’t until Saturday. Lots of time for Jalen to heal up (hopefully!)

Agree d-Mar. The rest till Saturday is huge for both Jalen and Robinson. As to Dame, if he has a calf injury, even given the playoff stakes for Portland, they may keep him out, particularly since Jalen is probably not playing. It’s easy to re-tweak the calf, which makes me think that it’s time to start shoveling. . . yikes.

Repost from end of last thread:

“Are we trying to create a problem where there’s none? Since recovering from the injury that was bothering him at the beginning of the season, iHart is always smiling, constantly talking to his teammates, and giving his all on every play. If that’s a guy that is frustrated with his role, then an Oscar is probably in his future.”

Exactly. iHart has had plenty of opportunity to showcase who he is and who he isn’t, both in practice and in games. Beyond that, players who change teams often have to manage their emotions through new teammates, coaches, roles, etc. iHart knew that Mitch was in front of him, and also how Thibs tended to utilized his bigs.

If iHart is actually complaining that he was sold a bill of goods, I’d lose respect for him. Personally, it sounds like he’s just providing reasons (not necessarily making excuses) for why it took so long for him to adapt to his role on this team for this coach.

I like our chances tonight because Cam Reddish is gonna take 25 shots minimum, and that’s if Dame is playing.

I know this isn’t exactly breaking news, but damn Giannis. I watched the 4th quarter of Bucks-Kings, and the Kings were completely helpless trying to stop the Freak. Once he turns the corner, it’s over.

And if Middleton stays healthy, I don’t see anyone beating Milwaukee, even the Suns with KD.

I thought what Giannis did while dribbling out the clock was kind of unnecessary. If you are doing something supposedly in the name of sportsmanship, no need to go out of your way to get all up on someone. Lyles may have overreacted, but Giannis should be held accountable, even if just in the court of public opinion.

    >>>>And if Middleton stays healthy, I don’t see anyone beating Milwaukee, even the Suns with KD.

Agree, and I’m relatively happy about it. Giannis is easy to root for.

I’m just hoping that the Celts don’t make the finals, and if we’re not the ones to knock them off, it pretty much has to be the Bucks. So yeah, I’m rooting for them.

To be fair, trying to create a problem where there’s none is a big part of what we do here.

***To be fair, trying to create a problem where there’s none is a big part of what we do here.***

Did you even NEED surgery yesterday, or did you and Frank just create a kidney problem where there wasn’t one?

Frank is the professional, so I just believe what he tells me. Though now you have me wondering, Donnie…

That Mavs pick is really starting to look spicy. It’s not out of the question Brice Sensabaugh could be on the board when we pick. He has his flaws–not much of a playmaker or defender–but he’s a bucket who might be better than RJ Barrett as a rookie.

Maxwell Lewis and Leonard Miller are kinda interesting too, though how G-League Ignite success translates to the NBA is still a black box to me.

Mmm… a long, skinny, defensive-minded Frenchman who just needs to learn to shoot… who am I being reminded of …?

    I disagree on I-Hart.

I don’t think he’s complaining or causing any issues.

He made comments about his role early in the season that expressed some level of frustration/disappointment and these recent comments hint at more of the same. The fact that he’s being the good soldier, accepting his role, and playing better now that he’s healthy are all great news. That’s what Thibs is asking of J-Hart, Quick, and Obi and they are doing the same. But there’s little question he preferred his role LA where he handled the ball more and made plays. Like I said in the previous thread, if he’s starting because Mitch is out, that’s simply not going to happen because Brunson, Randle, and RJ are going to handle the ball, but that bench unit could use another playmaker. I’ve seen some evidence he might even have good chemistry with Obi. But you have to put the ball in his hands. You can’t tell him your job is to defend and hit the boards on both sides. I’d like to see him get the ball more often in positions where he can make a play. It might make the team better on top of making him happier.

“Mmm… a long, skinny, defensive-minded Frenchman who just needs to learn to shoot… who am I being reminded of …?”

Hahaha. Yeah, but if they hadn’t picked Frankie Smokes you know they would’ve chosen Dennis Smith Jr… I actually followed up my post by comparing his numbers in NBL to LaMelo Ball’s and wasn’t too impressed.

I’d be pretty frustrated if my usage went from nearly 20% the past two seasons to 11% this season, especially considering points are the stat that gets you paid the most. And that’s on top of having fewer passing opportunities.

Maybe we see an expanded role from Hartenstein as he gets healthier, but it’s Thibs running a Thibs offense.

Hartenstein might be a good sport, and winning stops frustrations from boiling over, but I’m going to assume it still bothers him as it would just about anyone.

In the Clips’ two play-in games last year, iHart played 12 minutes combined and took 2 shots. Doesn’t match the narrative that he had all kinds of offensive opportunities there. If he fancies himself a higher usage player that was entitled to more shot attempts than he’s getting here, he’s delusional.

the gleague guys are hard to rate… but we are getting more and more data and with green.. kuminga… and daniels from last year we can start to at least make some educated guesses…

i haven’t tracked Miller since he didn’t get a ton of hype but looks like he’s performing well… i still would have others like Sensabaugh and Lewis and others ahead of him but he’s going to be in the discussion….

I should also mention that two years ago, while iHart did indeed post a near-20 usage, he only played 559 minutes and took 3.7 shots a game.

He was drafted 47th, was waived by the team that drafted him, then signed to a minumum deal by the Nuggets who then used him as a throw-in to acquire JaVale McGee, then couldn’t get anything more than a 1-year minimum deal from the Clippers.

He was signed to be Mitch’s backup. In that role, he is playing a career high in mpg and has had ample opportunity to establish himself as more than just a generic backup. I doubt very much that his ability to make more money is affected much at all by his low usage. I personally don’t see any valid reason for him to be frustrated by the oportunity that he’s gotten here.

TNFH: I think Sensabaugh hurt his knee and was shut down. Hopefully nothing too bad.

any of the people who pay attention to college know anything about Brandin Podziemski? Great shooting, rebounding and steals numbers for a guard, but he plays for Santa Clara.

Z–Man, regarding iHart, I don’t think it’s usage or minutes or pointz that is the problem. I think iHart believes he has a useful skill that is being underutilized — passing — and he probably believes it would help the team if schemes involved him with the ball and, you know, cutters happening. You can argue he’s wrong (I won’t) or you can argue it’ll never happen with Thibs (I would), but those are different arguments.

Imagine if we had a SF who liked to pass, wanted to do it more, and was good at it…

iHart is on his 5th team in 4 years. Considering that the Knicks gave him a great deal for him and for them, I couldn’t care less what he is frustrated about. He knew who was on the team and who the coach was. He spent a big chunk of this season playing poorly.

I seem to recall that the Clippers were short on point guards. But the Knicks have Brunson on the first unit and Quickley on the second unit. It makes sense that the Clippers would take advantage of Hartenstein’s passing ability more than the Knicks do.

Podz has gotten some draft buzz lately. My guess is he goes back to school to try to get into the first round though.

The numbers don’t lie and based on them alone I’d take him way higher than he’s being mocked, but they drop off substantially against good competition. Of course, there are always questions as to how meaningful that is–was it the competition or noise in a minuscule sample size?

Unless he gets a first-round promise, seems like one of the rare cases of his best interests being served by returning.

***That Mavs pick is really starting to look spicy.***

The better the Mav’s pick that conveys the more likely the Bulls are to accept it in a trade for Zach LaVine. (Keep that in mind while you’re building Leon Rose’s theoretical Big Board.)

i just had to look up who podziemski was…. level of comp absolutely matters but between most of the college conferences these days it’s not a huge difference especially now when most of the top players leave early….

numbers look good…. he looks stylistically a lot like luke kennard…. similar shot motion and below the rim play…. he doesn’t really get to the rim all that often cause his handle and elevation does not look great…. so he has all these awkward looking flips which somehow go in…. he uses his dribble and body well but relying on that gets punished hard in the nba….

he’s got a good outside game and passing ability… the other stuff i’m doubtful on but he’s late first early 2nd in most years…. this year he probably should be early 20s if he declares….

Nets look like they are starting to put it together, they are giving OKC the business

Meanwhile the Lakers are looking to give a 150-80 drubbing to the Pelicans…

Turns out the Nets have not put it together and have now blown a big lead to OKC, so that’s good.
