2021-22 Game Thread: Knicks vs. History-Making Steph Curry (and the Warriors)

Well, this might get ugly. The Knicks host the #1 seed in the entire NBA, the Golden State Warriors, as their Hall of Fame point guard, Steph Curry, is setting to set the NBA record for the most three-pointers ever made. So, you know, this is going to be a big game.

Maybe the Knicks can shock the world and beat the Warriors even with a bunch of guys out due to COVID!

Hey, weirder things have happened!

As part of our all-poll content…

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Let’s go shock everyone, Knicks!

Thanks Owen, I will check it out. I love Backgammon. I switched from chess about 15 years ago. I don’t mind the element of luck that allows me to beat better players from time to time.

Yes on the poll, of course.

Just sitting down to some Red Curry Chicken while I watch…

All for just letting Curry jag some 3’s immediately after the tip and then just getting this over with. In all seriousness, tremendous achievement to Curry. Wild to think he is breaking the record with at least 2 years left of his prime then another handful as a spot up role player type post prime.

Okay. The record. Everything must stop. Respect.

But now I want IQ to outscore Curry for the game.

If the Knicks can make their wide ass open 3s they’ll blow out the exhausted Warriors tonight.

BigBlueAL:

that seems like a “i just got back from the company holiday happy hour” assessment…we ain’t blowing anybody out..they can sit curry the rest of the game and we ain’t blowing them out..

d-mar:
I guess I thought when we got Fournier he wouldn’t brick wide open 3’s.

Yeah, something’s wrong. We’re left playing 3 v 5 now instead of 4 v 5

EDIT: On the plus side, the Deuce is loose.

Deuce needs to learn when Mitch is being inexplicably double teamed in the post it means someone else is open

Credit to Knox for staying ready. Can’t be easy riding the pine so much, but his shot looks really good at the moment.

Shorthanded, going up against the best team in the league on a historic night and we’re hanging tight with the young guns. Maybe we should start this group every game.

Not judging the Warriors by tonight given the back to back, but how the hell is this roster 22-5?

its all about curry…i live here in sf…watch their games…without him they are an average team

never thought i would feel like..”man, i wish knox stayed in there instead of randle” in my head..

Cyber, I apologize sincerely.

Deuce/Grimes starting backcourt once Grimes is back. Why the hell not?

If we would just bench Randle and Fournier we’d probably be pretty good again. Lol

Think about how much Deuce has “accomplished” offfensively compared to our favorite French Frank …

Maybe we should attach a first rounder to Randle just to trade him as far away as possible.

come on thibs…give us that “talk it over” time out that started with your moronic substitution pattern…send thibs out of town…keep everyone else

So, we never cut to the basket, but someone on our coaching staff must be aware that other teams often do.

i mean…it thibs is supposedly..win every game at all costs type of guy…wtf is he doing rolling this (ex-rose) sorry group out there for?

Totally, if the Warriors are tired, get the young guys out there and run. We could totally steal this game.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this team might be better if we simply got rid of Randle and Fournier. We have players on this team that have more of a positive impact on the game than either of them. At least the kids bring some energy and make impact plays on one side or the other. If guys like McBride or Grimes have a rough night shooting you are at least going to get some good defensive energy. At this point I’d WAY rather have Obi on the court than Randle even if he can’t shoot yet.

If we would just bench Randle and Fournier we’d probably be pretty good again. Lol

so crazy, that this isn’t a joke, and it’s very true…

hard to explain what the heck is wrong with those two…so many games last year where julius looked like the best player on the court…that ain’t even close to happening now, at times he literally looks like the worst player on our roster…

evian doesn’t look close to an nba starter, he doesn’t even look like he deserves to be in the rotation…

i just hope at some point this season they can get it together and actually help the team win games…

those two are definitely losing games for us right now…

At the beginning of the season, who had RJ out of the league at end of contract and Knox breaks Charlie Ward curse?

Fourniers been cupping I see so that’s good … hasn’t helped thus far ….ya know his release is so slow, he doesn’t create enough space … he’s too guardable on the kick out

total discombobulation from julius…he may need to start from from scratch with learning to tie his sneakers up…

I just don’t get Randle this year. He’s passing on good looks from 3 while chucking up absolute garbage. At least full time chuckers take the threes too. That dude is deep inside his own head.

Lmao this is disgusting basketball from everyone involved

Randle and Fournier are at the point now where they are afraid to shoot. Just bury them. Throw Kemba in there. At least he won’t be afraid to shoot. Our two highest paid players suck.

We’re bringing the Warriors down to our level, they may have to shower twice tonight to get the stench off

He was exposed in the playoffs and never recovered.

man knicks are like a basketball laugh track, we can even make warriors games boring and stilted

KJG:
Listen, I just had a kid 2 months ago … It’s not surprising Burks sucks right now …

Randle had a new kid in October, too, right? Depending on how much help these millionaires have (or want) newborns are tough.

I’m sure this is one of the worst games the Warriors have played this season, and they’re winning

We’re bringing the Warriors down to our level, they may have to shower twice tonight to get the stench off

At least it might result in a win! That’s all that Thibs cares about right now, I imagine.

Obi and Grimes being out is brutal because we can’t even fantasize about bringing other players in. Let Deuce go one on five IMO.

KB Apprentice: Randle had a new kid in October, too, right? Depending on how much help these millionaires have (or want) newborns are tough.

You’d think they’d have a lot of help … but maybe they feel bad like they’re “not parenting”

Brian Cronin: At least it might result in a win! That’s all that Thibs cares about right now, I imagine.

Yeah, it’s all ugly as sin, but maybe we’re whining too much. We’re usually down 20 to a lesser team at this point.

Have you noticed that a lot of these players wear compression socks and sleeves? I’m going to start doing it also.

KJG: You’d think they’d have a lot of help … but maybe they feel bad like they’re “not parenting”

Exactly. It’s a once in a lifetime experience, so maybe they’re both trying to be present for it as much as possible.

He was exposed in the playoffs and never recovered.

i hope you’re wrong…i’m starting to lose faith though…

evian needs to get comfortable on the bench so we can play some folks who can help us win this game…

Do I want IQ to keep improving at the point? Or do I want him never running the point again so we can have his shot back?

ptmilo:
you could write a sonnet in the time between mitch setting a screen and mitch rolling

He is way too sleepy … a sloth of a man this year who can’t jump anymore … sell sell sell

Oh wow a 7 footer dunked it with 2 hands … he was open too… lame …. Just not a happy camper right now

Fournier staring at a rebound in front of him for 3 seconds then picking it up is the perfect description of his season

Big Chiefin’ Geo:
hey dude, how ya feelin’ man…

Was released from the hospital today. The many blood clots are still in my lungs and have to dissolve over a number of months, sapping my strength. But, all of that aside, I’m still in better shape than the Knicks are.

This game felt more winnable about 7 minutes ago … we just decided to do nothing right … Warriors barely did anything right

Burks took a quick gander to our big man for potential post up … Mitch already had his back to him … solid

Unfortunate we don’t have a hot-handed, hard-driving, good defense guard on the bench who could spark this team…

at this point i feel like kemba must have asked out once he was demoted, but asked to keep it quiet bc he cares a lot about being the good guy

KevinR:
Deuce making sure Kemba never sees the floor again

Thanks, Kevin. The frustrating part is that no matter what Deuce does in the next 6 minutes, he’ll still be on the bench at the end of the game.

At the game. Knicks fans are the best. The Knicks…. Are not.

Of course it’s the Bjielica game

ptmilo:

Could it be that Thibs is a strong believer in “rotations” and that even if Kemba slides to bench he still needs rest days and that ruins a Thibsism

DRed:
watching the warriors motion offense and then our shit is just painful

This is the thing. By now, doesn’t everyone know how this works? Can’t we teach it?

ptmilo:
haven’t really seen deuce get past the first level off the dribble yet

Agreed… not really point guarding much if at all just yet… This lineup needs Obi on and Randle not … Burks seems tired this eve and Knox isn’t fleet of foot … it’s a weird combo …

There are things to like about Deuce but he seems to have Quickley esque aversion to the rim

Deuce doing a lot of small things that should get him more PT… eh … he didn’t put hand up on dray

Every Knick standing around 3 point line, not ONE cut to basket … Ends in Randle clear out , lucky to get foul

d-mar:
Draymond is a better passer than anyone on our team by light years

I’m not sure if he would look this great on the Knicks. No player movement tends to lead to less easy passes. I don’t know if Magic Johnson would create easy looks for this team.

You literally still had a shot down 6 … you play defense for 20 seconds and let Wiggins take a wide open 3 … right…

Credit to Randle for turning a tough start into a solid game. Feels like the second half lineup, particularly in the 4th was a really good combo for him.

Unfortunately it was just for him…

Tankathon’s server gonna be like “hey, guys, welcome back! where did you go?”

good thing i didn’t delete that shortcut 🙂

Deuce really does play much bigger than his size. Should be a nice bench guard at the very least.

all of that aside, I’m still in better shape than the Knicks are.

too funny…glad to hear you’re out…

weird off-hand question, but, wondering how you were spending time while getting care – do you read dude?

Julius had 31 points? Seems impossible. He had a couple turnovers that were absolute all timers.

The Knicks offense is trench warfare. It’s sickening to watch. I used to think of it as like the Giants offense with OJ Anderson but tonight was basically the Somme. Goddamn horrifying.

The Warriors played pretty badly outside of Bjielica not being able to miss (perfectly predictable that) and the Knicks just couldn’t figure it out.

Very frustrating to watch live but the Garden crowd is amazing and they gave the man of the hour his due.

I think roughly 19811 people were thinking, he should have been a Knick. Everyone but the (actually fairly amusing) jackass behind me. Great player and seems like a pretty solid human being.

I think Randle hit absolute rock bottom and then bounced in the third, when he absolutely refused to shoot a long series of wide-open shots and decent drives, and was intensely moping when he didn’t have the ball (and intensely moping even when he did). It was a jaw-dropping display of quit-a-tude. Then he canned that three and it was like, okay, maybe I’ll keep playing.

He scored 31 points, but they were 31 shameful points.

On the other hand, my eyes were glued to Miles, and I thought he played near flawless D. He sticks like glue to his man. Goes hard for rebounds (whereas Fournier turns into delice de bourgogne when the ball goes into the air — “Rebound? Non-non, c’est impossible!”).

KevinR:

He has a 6’8″ wingspan, so that definitely helps

ptmilo:

Brolic? More like Slow-lic!

Maybe I’m a bit too enthusiastic about Deuce but it was great to see him get some real run. Hope that continues.

fortunately i had to go to my company holiday party…spared me the pain of the 2nd half…although the party was so lame…the game may have been less tortureous…

Z-man: Hope that continues.

“over my dead body” – Tom “faithful to his guys” Thibodeau (the deua is pronounced similar to like when Homer Simpson says “dooh”- Coach NY Knicks 2020-2022

Maybe I’m a bit too enthusiastic about Deuce

We haven’t resigned a draft pick since charlie ward and we get gleeful around here when our picks don’t work out. How do you like the odds?

DRed: We haven’t resigned a draft pick since charlie ward

Charlie Ward actually may be a good comp for Deuce…
