Holy shit! I thought Mitch might make it back for the playoffs, but I was thinking second round for sure (and even there, it wasn’t like I was confident in it happening). If he’s a game-time decision tonight, that means he is actually seriously close to returning. If not tonight, then soon and that would be amazing.
I’d probably continue to start Noel, just to avoid fucking with his head, as apparently he really wants to start. Just let Mitch close the game out.
Apparently it was just some BS. Mitch is still not close to returning. Boo.

Alas, not true, Brian. Begley and others say that the official report has Mitch listed as Out. Sorry to again be Team Party Pooper (see also Summer Thing Vildoza). Carrying over my last comment from the old thread:
This raises a question for whenever Mitch is back in these playoffs: does he take Taj’s spot in the rotation, or Obi’s? Thibs isn’t playing 11 guys. Thibs understandably trusts Taj more on defense, but we saw in Game 1 that Obi’s a useful weapon to have around while Randle is taking a breather.
someone mentioned it on another thread and really nailed it – the camera work on these recent knick interviews has been great: julius being interviewed by the tnt crew regarding the mip award…
when mitch returns he may take more of noel’s minutes than taj’s…
Sorry about spreading this one. I want it to be true.
what i’m saying is Thibs the guy ‘who doesn’t like playing rookies and youngsters’… was forced to play a roster filled with exactly that this year… so yes he was forced to do it this year and he would presumably be forced to do it again…
thanks to the little mole in our front office we know if it was up to him we wouldn’t even have randle or rj on our squad…. he’s not the gm…. so if we want to pick young players for this team to develop and play he will do that because he signed on to this job knowing full well what he was getting into.. he and rose assembled a team ready to develop young guys to take advantage of all the picks and the roster they inherited.. this is the reality….
maybe all that gets thrown to the wind and we’re ready to blowup all our cap room on role players…. but i honestly don’t think that’s happening or else we wouldn’t have given them 1-year deals in the first place… if we’re saving our bullets for a big fish that is going to preclude us from keeping any outsized multiyear deals which makes keeping and using these picks to find replacements the most efficient way to do that…
i don’t pretend i know what’s going on… but all the actions thus far align with that kind of thinking… that doesn’t mean things can’t change but it’s not like keeping and using the picks is some insane idea or something… it’s probably the most likely thing that’s to occur…
That actually sounds likely.
To reply to Brian and djphan in the other thread… I’m definitely not suggesting we punt any of our picks. Trading the 33rd pick for a future 2nd was stupid, I agree. But that bad trade is not the template.
A couple years ago, for instance, Phoenix had the 32nd pick and they it traded for three future second round picks. That makes a little more sense.
Assuming we bring most of our free agents back (which you might not assume), I would rather turn one pick today into three picks tomorrow than select someone we’re going to put in the G League.
three and a half hours til game time…ugh, it was hard for me to watch the final quarter and especially final minutes of the last game…hopefully this one is a wire to wire victory for us…
for those going to the game, try not to cheer too hard the first quarter or so…maybe they can pump in some kenny g during player intro’s or something…
My wife picked a terrible time to schedule our first group dinner in a year
My car doesn’t have satellite radio, and I don’t own a cell phone, so I plugged an old iPod in that I found lying around when I was driving today and put it on random shuffle (it has about 3000 songs on it). The song that came on was “Get Ready Here Come The Knicks” which I don’t even remember ever owning but do remember watching Pat Cummings do his layup line warmups to, back in the day. (I thought it was a fortuitous song with particular relevance for today:)
Here is Seth Partnow in the Athletic, just to lighten the mood and not trigger any people…
By far the bigger swing is for the Knicks. At this point, it should be no surprise that continuing to start Elfrid Payton has been a bit of an anchor for New York. Simply by redistributing his minutes to Derrick Rose or especially Immanuel Quickley would move Game 2 from roughly even to a 2-point Knicks’ win. Given that Payton only played 8 minutes in Game 1, down from the 14.9 he had played in regular season games in May, that estimated swing is likely a slight overestimate of the benefit of just playing the good players and not the bad ones, but even that same 8 minutes would be 8 too many.
Right? Of all the evenings to schedule a threesome with a hot blonde, my wife picks today. Like, c’mon, Lady Jowles. Do better.
I’ve only got an hour-long business call with board members that should start right about the start of the second quarter. I’ve set it up so directly above my laptop screen will be the TV, on mute. It’s going to be really hard to concentrate on problem solving and not curse or say whoo hoo for what appears to be no sensible reason…
I’m on the top of an athenian hill offering chips and Cola to the BBall Gods of Olympus for our first playoff W.
payton still starting apparently…. confirmed by begley…
well let’s see if it works…
Payton really does a great job filling up those boxscore games started
i think to shake up the hawks…we should do like bill walsh did in the niner heyday and script out the first five possesions…each time down the court…we should isolate elf one on one on trae…just clear out the whole side of the court and let elf take him down low and abuse him…it will boost elf’s confidence and embarrass young and mess with his head…someone please relay this theory to thibs before tipoff…
Best use of Elf right now seems to get in a real fight with TraeY and make him bleed or ejected
