Kevin Durant‘s next opportunity to reach free agency is nearly nine months away, but speculation about his decision has already begun. And according to various reports compiled by Dan Feldman of NBC Sports, the Knicks are viewed by many insiders around the NBA as a legitimate candidate to challenge the Warriors for Durant. “The New […]

An injury is hampering Courtney Lee’s efforts to earn a spot in the Knicks’ rotation, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post. Lee sat out his second straight preseason game Wednesday while recovering from a neck strain he suffered while being fouled on a layup last week in training camp. â??Iâ??m losing my conditioning […]

Don’t take Kyrie Irving at his word just yet.
“If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here,” Irving said Thursday at a Celtics team event inside TD Garden.
Whoopty-doo.
We remind you this is the same Irving who told a small kid he wouldn’t leave the Cavs following The King’s first…

Kevin Durant can become a free agent next summer, and – oh hey, there’s the Knicks, a prestigious franchise in a large market. The New York Knicks have a very good shot at luring KD away from the Bay Area. The reason I say that is his business partner, Rich Kleiman is based in New York, huge New York Knicks fan.

Madison Square Garden Chief Executive James Dolan got a hefty raise, the company said Thursday. Dolan will bring home roughly $9.3 million in total compensation over the next year — including sales, bonus and other payout — up 20 percent from his previous contract. MSG, which owns the Knicks and Rangers, saw its shares spike…

It’s time to put those “Kyrie Irving” Knicks jerseys on hold. The Celtics point guard doesn’t sound like a man with a plan to hit the free-agent market next summer, instead telling fans at a team event he intends on re-signing with Boston. “If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here,”…

While the new guy, uber-athletic rookie center Mitchell Robinson, grabs all the headlines, old-schooler Enes Kanter is still grabbing all the rebounds. Knicks coach David Fizdale talks up the 26-year-old Kanter as a basketball dinosaur but a bull-like force he’s glad to have. For now. Fizdale has noted his improvement as a more active defender,…

For so many years, Knicks head coaches had come, gone and not used Walt Frazier’s knowledge despite him being present on the planes, trains and buses. Frazier, to a man, was always surprised at the lukewarm interest. In fact, Frazier, the Hall of Fame guard with the NBA’s fastest hands, had told confidants he didn’t…

Madison Square Garden Co. said Thursday it is moving ahead with plans to spin off its sports franchises, which include the Knicks and Rangers, into a separate publicly traded company. There may be no ‘D’ in “Enes Kanter,” but Knicks coach David Fizdale begs to differ.

Allonzo Trier is showing out for the Knicks, and he is used to the big spotlight.

hello – hello hello…is there anybody out there – there there…
this reminds me of the one time we all went quiet during a game thread and ras wrote (in a sort of anxious tone): where the fuck did everybody go? 🙂
key game tonight tonight against the pelicans…no, not really…
it will be interesting though to see if trier keeps lighting it up…and, to see whether lance either scores a dozen or a doughnut…
lance needs his own betting lines…
“Hardaway Jr. seems like the most replaceable type of player – average shooter, gets really hot on occasion, gets to the basket on occasion, goes totally cold on occasion, average defender.”
I know, let’s sign him for 70+ million dollars – Brilliant!
Guess who’s starting tonight?
maybe it’s a last meal sort of thing
Lol
Frank had better get a preseason start at some point.
Mudiay and Thomas in the same lineup is tanky
Mudiay, Thomas, Frank, Hezonja and literally anyone at C is basically a guaranteed top-5 pick.
Boy, lively bunch in here
I guess this is what happens when MitchRob doesn’t play
So boring!!
I’m here. Took the wife out to dinner early so I could watch the game with her approval.
🙂
Mudiay has made a couple of nice passes tonight, but still can’t shoot or finish.
Hezonja with a couple of nice hoops tonight, but still seems mostly lost. Hot Timmy tonight, so far…
Two impressions. One, we adjusted well to the pellies pace so kudos for that. Two, this is the best game I’ve ever seen Mudiay play.
At the Garden. Observations:
Lance seems improved
Knox is not terrible on D
Trier is a crowd fav already, lightning quick
AD isn’t trying
Lance
Actually
Looks
Good !
Getting very encouraged by Knox’s D and court awareness. How did he miss that dunk?!
Normally I’d say you can’t trust a man with two first names, but I might be coming around to Henry George’s supposition about Mudiay.
Knox is active if anything
Can we all agree that if the Knicks go 5-0 in preseason they’re the presumptive eastern conference favorites?
They seriously have no answer for Enes Kanter
Frank’s been much more aggressive in this half. Hasn’t always worked out, but the process and instincts right now are more important than the results.
Boy, Vonleh can be fun to watch. Tonight he’s playing like Oakley if Oakley could jump.
Watching Vonleh tonight makes me wonder why he’s been a disappointment so far in his career. The guy can be a beast. He seems relentless down low like Kanter.
I can’t watch the game, but from the comments it seems like guys are actually getting effective coaching based on what they did in previous games. I never had that feeling with Hornacek.
And I have no idea who they will cut to get down to seventeen players. Everyone is doing something worthwhile (except Noah, of course)
3-0! 3-0!
In all seriousness, there are promising signs so far. We’re still probably going to lose a lot of games until KP comes back (if not beyond), but we should be a lot more entertaining while we do it.
Vonleh is another reason why I’m cautiously optimistic about the front office. We could have gone for someone liked Anthony Tolliver or a random veteran PF to fill the holes on the team, but going for a guy like Vonleh, a blue chip prospect who seems to not have figured out anything yet is the right move.
He can’t score at all but he’s shown he can be a rebounder, it’s a worthwhile gamble. He’s sorta kinda like Mudiay in the sense that he has proven in the minutes he played he’s not a NBA level player, but unlike Mudiay he has one skill that he excels on (rebounding), so why not take a gamble and see if he can develop something else.
That’s what I like from a team projected to be bad. Pick up reclamation projects but do it when these players have shown at least something to be hopeful of.
Seeing Vonleh up close is pretty eye-opening. He was significantly more muscular than anyone out there tonight. On that dunk for the and-1, he went right through a defender’s arm like it wasn’t there. I’m not sure how that will translate in the regular season, but he’s definitely a great no-risk move. He also looks like he can hit an occasional spot-up 3, not as a go-to move but just enough to keep the defense honest.
If we can’t move Lee, and we won’t cut Mudiay I think the obvious choice to cut to make room for Trier is Kornet. He’s barely an NBA player and with Vonleh on the team, he is the fourth string center. On top of that none of our centers except maybe, Vonleh can play the PF.
I really want to see Baker get some burn with the rotation players. His defense is legit and right now probably even better than Frank’s. On top of that, he moves the ball well and only shoots when he has a wide open shot. I’d love to see him get 25 minutes+ over the next two games to see if he deserves to be in the rotation. I’d love to see him get all of Mudiay’s minutes once the season starts.
I must be a slave. I just watched the Knick game on my SlingBox on a trans-Atlantic flight. Mudiay is on his last legs. We can’t have two zero-offense guards and Frank can play D. I like Vonleh as our replacement for O’Quinn. It wouldn’t be a sin to send Robinson to the G-Leaugue. Kornet is a wasted spot.
I love the Trier & Burke back court. We won’t need much offense from the front court when they’re playing together.
Oh, and I suspect it was quiet here because of a certain game in Boston. I watched that first. I wish it had a different outcome.
