I love how Berman’s article’s headline = “mavericks fight”. The Knicks pick before the Mavericks. There’s no fight. The kid has zero choice where he goes.

PG market is going to be fascinating this summer.
Figure Steph is going to re-sign with the Dubs, and CP3 is probably resigning with the Clips.
But if Hayward leaves, the Hill will be on the market (to SA?)
Now that George is probably on the move, Teague will probably be on the market.
Lowry may be on the market
Holiday by all reports is not happy in New Orleans so he’ll be on the market.
Patty Mills may be on the market if SA signs another PG

5 rookie PGs will be drafted in the top 10.

So there’s a glut of PGs on the market, whether through the draft or in FA.
There’s a relative lack of cap space on the market compared with previous years.
There also aren’t that many teams that need a PG desperately enough to give gigantic $ to these guys.

Holiday may actually be in the best position to get paid, if for no other reason than New Orleans has no other options — they may have to offer him the max just to have a chance, and their FO is under serious pressure.

Lowry is already 31 – I’d be shocked if he got a 5 year max deal from Toronto. If he holds out for that, I could easily see Toronto going in another direction.

You might imagine that 1 of these guys is going to be left without a chair when the music stops.

(also makes the market for Rubio extremely small. we should be able to get him cheaply if we want him)

I hope Galloway didn’t make a mistake opting out, hopefully someone will give him a couple of years even if the AAV is less than $5.4m. I’d love to see him back here if the market for him is weak.

For all the bellyaching about Langston leaving, he was pretty bad last year in 1500 minutes. TS of just 51, still can’t make a 2 point field goal to save his life (36.7% 2p%), and his assist and rebounding rates fell off the table. Amazing how going to a different situation / role changes someone’s productivity.

Seeing Hill go back to SA to play with Kawhi who he was traded for would be great

Re: yesterday’s drama over KP — Woj is obviously the best news breaker in the business, but he does seem to serve an agenda at times with hit pieces and “breaking news” that often make a team or person look bad. The one about Lebron after LeBacle in 2010 comes to mind, but there was also that ridiculous story about how CP3 would have come to the Knicks if Phil had just treated Melo better. I mean, that’s a ridiculous story. There’s no way in a million years CP3 would ever come to the Knicks with the talent level on the team right now, even if Phil was personally carrying Melo’s luggage around.

So 24h after all that stuff about trading KP came out, what the actual story seems like is that people have been calling Phil to see what he would want for KP, and Phil didn’t hang up on them. Is this a weird thing? I mean, shouldn’t you always listen to what other teams might offer in case Billy King or Vlade happen to be on the other side?

Leaks come for a reason, and there generally is an agenda. There has been a war going on between Melo’s camp and Phil for a while. It seems altogether plausible that Melo’s camp heard about teams calling Phil about KP, and leaked it specifically to make Phil look bad (not that Phil needs any help with that, but you get my point). And this also comes just a few days after that ridiculous CP3->Knicks story, which clearly came from Melo’s camp either directly or indirectly. I mean, you had respected media people Mike Greenberg, Mike Vaccaro, and basically all of Knicks Nation calling for Phil’s head yesterday, and who knows how much radio and TV airtime spent on the “How dumb is Phil Jackson?” and “Dolan really needs to step in” stories. Whose agenda does that serve most obviously? –> Melo.

Frank, if true, just another reason why Melo needs to go.

I thought the NYT article quoting Jeff Van Gundy was the best from yesterday at putting all the KP trade talk in perspective. Like he said, Kareem Abdul Jabbar was once traded. Anyone can be traded, and any team should listen to offers.

Interestingly, I read some stuff yesterday about the alleged demand that Phil made to the Suns for KP for Booker and their #4 pick. Comments that that was too much to ask for, whereas here it is viewed as too little! All just a matter of perspective.

Many of us agree that Phil needs to STFU, but so does KP’s brother.

One of today’s rumors is that the Clips offered to trade DeAndre Jordan to Phoenix for the #4 pick and Tyson Chandler.

    @#5 Frank

    Indeed!

I can’t help but notice a considerable amount of hate towards Phil that redates running the Knicks. In that climate, there’s nothing he can do to win amongst the sports radio guys or the overjealous coaches and GMs out there that feel that he’s lucked himself into 13 rings and a $12M salary with no effort on his part. Honestly, some guys make things like that ‘look’ easy.

Well to be frank Phil’s always been one of the least likeable guys in the NBA since literally the 60s when he had a rep as a dirty player so it’s not unreasonable for these people to be uncharitable given his dickishness

Yeah, I think it is a combination of lots of jealousy for all of his success combined with him coming off as smug. There’s also a lot of Dolan hate in the media that adds to the toxic mixture.

I’m just crossing my fingers, hoping that Phil has learned from his mistakes and will have a good offseason since we’re stuck with him for 2 more years.
