Instant classic. This was the definitively quote of the day.
Good news is that France is out of Eurobasket, having lost to Georgia, so Yabu can get some rest while injury free. Bad news is he had a so-so game going 1-7 from deep (or kinda deep since the line is closer to the basket there).
If there were a Knicks Hall of Fame, and where Melo may or may not fit, I would put in front of him (in no particular order): the 70s championship team–Reed, Clyde, Barnett, Monroe Dave D, Bill B, and Jerry Lucas. Add Richie Guerin from the old days. Bernard from the early 80s. From the 90’s add Pat, Oak, and Houston. That’s 12 so far without a whiff of Melo.
Starks and Spree are above Melo too. So is Brunson. Melo is barely top 20. Two first round exits and one second round exit followed by three years of no playoffs is pathetic for a franchise player.
The best part of melo’s tenure was when they stormed out of the gate going 18-6 during the 54 win season topped off with destroying Miami in Miami.
Few have more disdain for the overall package of Melo, but one has to give the Devil his due. The idea that Bill Bradley or John Starks were comparable, let alone better basketball players than Melo is just silly.

This is really not a very good comparison. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that Starks had better teammates than Melo.
In hindsight, was the cost for Melo all that high?
The Knicks gave up:
Gallinari (good career but frequently injured)
Wilson Chandler (textbook generic NBA wing)
Ray Felton (mostly stunk)
Mozgov (bum)
1RP that turned into Dario Saric (bum)
I mean really, that’s the king’s ransom we are still pained about giving up all these years later? You can make an argument that those players could have been traded for something better than Melo and that the opportunity cost was high, but that’s a bunch of journeyman type players that went out the door for him. We stunk during Melo’s tenure for a lot of reasons that had nothing to do with that trade.
if you’re using a hindsight-infused lens like that you probably need to include the 2016 swap they used to take jamal murray in our #7 slot
Gallo and the two firsts really hurt. Gallo and Melo would have been an incredible pair.
The worst part about it was Melo actually helped Ujiri create leverage by expressing a willingness to play for Brooklyn when Walsh had Denver by the balls. Dumbass.
Tom Brady talks a lot and says nothing.
Prime Brady could be Giants QB and with that O line, they would still stink.
Speaking of O-Line I predicted a while ago that Daniel Jones will be good for the Colts if they have one, and it seems like they do.
How is Allan Houston considered a better knick than Melo? I disliked Anthony as much as the next guy, but that is just weird cause Houston was even more single-faceted and wasn’t even that good at his single-facet.

The opportunity cost was.
Gallo and the two firsts really hurt. Gallo and Melo would have been an incredible pair.
It was one first rounder, not two.
The pick swap only got Denver from 9 to 7.
We traded the Denver pick (used to draft Poeltl the Turtle) for Andrea Barfnani (sic)
As much as I try to quit on this Yankees season they keep pulling me back in…
In hindsight, was the cost for Melo all that high?
Jammal Murray’s pick was part of that package. Also besides Gallo and Chandler and Felton Mozgov was later flipped for 2 additional #1’s
It was one first rounder, not two.
February 22, 2011: As part of a 3-team trade, traded by the Denver Nuggets with Renaldo Balkman, Chauncey Billups, Anthony Carter, Shelden Williams and a 2016 1st round draft pick (Jakob Pöltl was later selected) to the New York Knicks; the Denver Nuggets traded a 2015 2nd round draft pick (Richaun Holmes was later selected) to the Minnesota Timberwolves; the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Kosta Koufos to the Denver Nuggets; the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Corey Brewer to the New York Knicks; the New York Knicks traded Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, cash, a 2012 2nd round draft pick (Quincy Miller was later selected), a 2013 2nd round draft pick (Romero Osby was later selected), a 2014 1st round draft pick (Dario Šarić was later selected) and a 2016 1st round draft pick (Jamal Murray was later selected) to the Denver Nuggets; and the New York Knicks traded Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph and cash to the Minnesota Timberwolves. (Nuggets acquired right to swap 2016 1st-Rd picks with Knicks)
Between the team’s actual game and how Jones played, the day couldn’t have possibly gone worse for Schoen and Daboll. Woof.
The Jamal Murray “pick” was actually a pick swap in which the Nuggets (who were already bad by 2016) moved from 9 to 7.
Perhaps in some alternative universe where that swap wasn’t included, the Knicks led by noted doofus Glen Grunwald would have made the correct pick at 7 and selected Murray but alas said doofus traded the pick for Andrea Bargnani. But at any rate, that’s what that asset was. A move from 9 to 7, not a full 1RP that was sent out.
So today was a epic day, because Z-man is here in Porto and i met him and his lovely wife. We had lunch together, also with Lady Cyber and my mother, and it was a wonderful time. 🧡💙
If in June 2026 Jalen lifts the O’Brien trophy, then Z-man has to come here again next summer for good luck. 😉 😀

Jesus, we traded the 9th pick in a draft for Bargs? I somehow forgot that detail.
Between the team’s actual game and how Jones played, the day couldn’t have possibly gone worse for Schoen and Daboll.
Unless Andrew Thomas fixes that line by himself, the Giants are going to lose a lot of games this year.
I would still keep Schoen and Daboll if Dart looks like the future.
Daniel Jones looking good is a much bigger indictment of Mara, IMO. Mara fed him 3 coaches in his first 4 years while he played behind the worst line in football. Now we gonna do the same thing with Dart?
Mara demanded a QB, he got a QB, now he should stick with the infrastructure, IMO, as long as the trend is up.
Cyber! That is amazing!!!
Good day for the Iberian peninsula!!!!
And yes, we paid too much for Melo.

Always great to hear of KBers meeting IRL, especially under happier circumstances than when Frank wandered in to see me in pre-op at the hospital.

It’s not that the players we gave up were good, it’s that we gave up all our players with any upside which capped the team pretty solidly in an era where contracts were long and replenishing picks was expensive. It turned out the Knicks could still add Tyson Chandler, so the mezzanine talk at the time was a bit overstated; however, the opportunity cost of Melo was real, cause Chris Paul became available shortly thereafter, and went for a package demonstrably worse at the time. And, of course, Paul was the guard we needed, not the forward we already had.

The Giants started four below replacement level players on the O line today. Elumunor is the only one who might still be on the roster when (and if) they turn it around. The guards are below avenge and JMS might be the worst center in the league. I believe he graded out 31/32 last season. They can’t figure how to pass of a simple twist after playing together for 18 months FFS. This regime’s drafting of Neal and JMS has been apocryphal. Anyone who ever played a down of football at any level knows if you can’t block it up, you can’t do an effin thing.
I can’t begin to tell you guys how thankful I am for cyber’s graciousness. His mom is a wonderful force of Portuguese nature who treated us as if we were family, and Lady Cyber is as delightful as cyber (well, sorry cyber, even more!). Cyber drove in and picked us up, and then we went into Porto’s coastal ‘burbs where he treated us to lunch in a small fishing village at a super-authentic restaurant right on the beach, with colorful fishing boats all lined up on the sand and fisherman’s houses behind them. Then cyber and mom took us on a scenic return drive along the coast as we swapped stories of family, homeland, and occasionally our beloved team. Truly an experience Lady Z-man and I will always treasure.

How did you guys explain to Lady Soze and Lady Man how you two knew each othet? Like, you had to come up with a more plausible explanation, right?
I always hated the way Melo laughed immediately after missing a game winning or game tying shot. Losing didn’t bother him at all.

Not a great day for NY football, but an excellent day for U.S.-Portugal relations.

I’m getting soft in my old age. I have averaged 147 minutes of tennis a day for the past year and consequently have respect for Melo for how much and how often he showed up, at least on offense.
I’m kind of out on the whole “criticizing another man’s heroic physical exertion” thing, unless it’s about a certain fascist’s ability to cram Filet-O-Fish down his disgusting fascist gullet
