I can’t figure out how we are winning this game given all the mistakes and dumb plays. We may be up, but I don’t like how this is going so far.

Towns decided to get all his non-scoring stats out of the way in the first half today:
10 rebs, 4 ast, 6 stocks!

We have left a lot of meat on the bone in this half. Hope we don’t regret it.

OG’s form and shot selection from 3 is way off. He’s taking bad shots and jerking the ball. Time to calm down and get more conservative.

This is disgusting. The Knicks’ defense is ok but the Hawk’s defense is much better.

You don’t beat Boston and the Cavs (twice) without being pretty good. They’re defense is really giving us trouble. Daniels is the point of attack defender we wish Mikal was.

Daniels is dominating Brunson defensively to a degree rarely seen. No adjustment by the captain or anyone else.

Shockingly the Knicks are losing another big game at home. They haven’t been a good team at MSG since the 1999-2000 season.

Hawks arent good defensively, Knicks have a better defensive rating than them. This is an absolute garbage performance by the Knicks but the bright side will be having 6 of the next 7 days off.

Daniels is playing fine but the entire offense just turned to shit, just guys taking turns throwing bricks from 3, where is the movement and the passing?

I can handle the horrible lack of effort on defense if the offense is still humming, but this is just terrible.

at least if we lose we can take the moral high ground against sportswashing!

Pre-playoff game at a bare minimum if not a full-on playoff game. Plenty of time but not a great sign if it continues.

If this is the way they’re going to officiate then maybe no more nba cup games is the best outcome

I’m not watching the same game as y’all. We’re hustling like crazy and the ball is bouncing everywhere. Just not into our hands – probably because we’re much shorter. It isn’t lack of effort.

Hawks have 17 offensive rebounds. That ain’t gonna cut it

And definitely Brunson’s worst game of the season.

It should be obvious to everyone by now we need some size, rebounding and interior defense. If it’s not going to be Mitch, then we need a 3&D PF. Then we move OG to SF, Bridges to SG and Hart to the bench.

Bringing in Sims makes sense – can’t come back when you can’t get five stops in one possession because you can’t grab the board

Probably the most frustrating game of the season. Take the six of seven days off and come back with fresh legs and the taste of this game thoroughly washed out of your mouth.

Pretty much. After the first quarter they shut down Towns and that killed us since we weren’t making 3s.

We’re cooked. Just another frustrating, deflating, maddening loss against a hated opponent. Rediculous.

The Hawks are also shooting like shit, 31% from 3, but we’re just shitting the bed worse.

Sorry Z-man I had to work late just got home after halftime! Honestly could use a break from sports so only positive of this embarrassing performance is only 1 Knicks game over next 7 days.

Well our strength is offense, and in the 2nd half we missed (almost) everything, it happens.

Also as I mentioned earlier, this continues a trend of the past 24 years of the Knicks basically losing every big game at MSG. It really is embarrassing how bad they’ve become at MSG since basically Ewing got traded.

The Hawks are so stupid it’s even more frustrating we can’t get boards. They keep throwing up quick shots with the lead…dumb.

Very sobering loss. The energy was there, the bounces went against us, but the lack of length and athleticism is concerning.

An embarrassing second half and another embarrassing loss. We were totally exposed! When the shots don’t fall, we are at the mercy of the opponent. Btw, the rebounding problem is not new. It’s been going on all season. The Haws put up 11 shots more than the Knicks. The Raptors two nights ago put up around 15 more shots.

It’s deeper than they took it to us. They easily beat us. We had no answer. They shut KAT and Brunson down with good D. We had no answer for their length.

I’m willing to forgive the bad shooting from 3. It happens. But this game really exposed the very serious weaknesses the team has defensively and on the boards. You can’t win a title trying to outscore everyone. You have to have a competent defense and be able to rebound. Honestly, I’m not so sure I’d want to be Leon from here. They have the assets to make another move, but I’m not even sure what that move should be. This team has more talent that last year’s team, but the pieces are not right. I think we need a bit of an overhaul. Just don’t ask me who should be traded.

Hollinger referred to this week as the equivalent of a bye week because the schedule is so light. He liked it. He thought it was a good time for a break and an opportunity for an internal assessment for each team. I was hoping it wasn’t going to be a light week for us, but that didn’t work out.

I thought our defense was somewhat improved. They won because we couldn’t get rebounds and because Jalen and to some degree Towns were shut down, and because we couldn’t make 3s – especially OG, who had a terrible game

Tota bullshit. It’s on the players. If anyone else is to faule, it’t the guy who acquired this mix of players.

There is something wrong with the construction of this season’s roster. There are a lot of defensive weaknesses, which is surprising, and they don’t seem able to find an answer so far. On top of that the team has a thin bench and no salary cap/picks flexibility.

Thibs is going to get run out here, it’s coming. Leon Rose doesn’t talk and the average fan [which is the majority] doesn’t care about him.

Again, where exactly did you see that? I saw a lot of hustle, a lot of bad bounces, a lot of getting fouled on offense, and a lot of misses that caromed to the other (taller) team. I did not see loafing or indifference.

I did see some bad coaching, though. There were moves to be made that Thibs did not make.

On top of that the team has a thin bench

I’m not sure anyone on this team can get the tough buckets except Jalen. If Dyson is in the game and the backdoor cuts dry up, we’re completely impotent.

I’m usually super irrational on game threads but I surprisingly don’t really care about this loss and am really happy with the schedule break.

This Knicks team is very good and is still gonna win 50+ games, unfortunately it’s not looking as smooth and easy as we hoped it would. But in the long run I assume they’ll actually benefit from losses like tonight.

Pretty funny. You guys turn on the ones you love faster than my second girlfriend.

Knicks coming into tonight had the 7th best defensive reb % in the league.

Towns has been rebounding great, but OG is very weak at the PF position and Bridges is not much of a rebounder either. That makes us dependent on Hart who is terrific at the wing, but he’s more of a position and hustle rebounder. He’s not going to bang with the big boys.

IMO we need a bit of an overhaul because the pieces are all good, but they are not right together. There are serious issues defensively and there will be issues on the boards at times.

This is a real puzzle. It’s not at all clear to me how to fix this.

I do know two things.

I overestimated Bridges’s defense (which I should not have done because the data I look at suggested he was overrated) and I underestimated the significance of rim protection from the C relative to suspect defense from Randle. We really miss I-Hart (and healthy Mitch).

That was immensely frustrating. Much will be said about it and rightfully so, but holy shot, Dyson Daniels is a fucking menace. That’s the best defense anyone has played on Brunson. He took him out of the game.

I’ve been trying to keep an open mind about Mikal Bridges, but he truly does seem to suck. Not a plus defender, and a “meh” offensive player.

Prove me wrong, Mikal! I’d be more than willing to admit that I was wrong about you. But you can’t defend for shit.

We used to bully teams. This season we are often bullied. We used to outwork teams. This season other teams outwork us.

I didnt see a lack of effort. Without towns on the floor they had a huge size advantage and the ball just seemed to bounce their way. We put up a lot of threes but a lot of them weren’t perfect looks. With OG in particular, I thiught be didnt get a lot of really clean threes:, ie feet set, in rhythm, without a strong contest because he doesn’t have a quick release. He forced at least five threes for different reasons. They seemed active on defense considering how bad they are supposed to be outside of Daniels.

Also the refs blew a bunch of calls obviously

The Warriors-Rockets game officiating was worse than ours. The NBA decided to allow more physicality this season but this is applied very inconsistently. At times the refs whistle a foul for nothing, and at times they allow jaw-dropping physical plays to go on or miss blatant calls. Well, it’s tough to understand what constitutes is a foul these days. Teams have trouble adjusting and frustration is growing.

Brunson is the rare case of FTA > than two years ago where FTA for top players were all time high. Now only few are above 8 FTA per 100 poss. Trae is much lover than two years ago, my boy Luka also. Brunson and SGA, Embid “adapted to new foul rules the best” (; This must be love 😉
And I agree that frustration seems to be growing…
I hate tick tack fouls and foul hunting, but it’s worse to have this kind of inconsistent shit we have now from refs. Someone, Malone or Udoka will sucker punch a ref one of these days.
