In these dog days there really isn’t a whole lot to ponder. I am reduced to reading articles about which of the 3 prominent vet C’s we should sign: Javale, Bismack, or Tristan. JaVale looked completely washed last year and is too flaky to be around Thibs. Thompson is also kind of washed and I am not a fan of anyone that has been mixed up with the Kardashians. Bismack is smallish and has never been good even in his prime.

Let’s hope Sims and Huk are serviceable enough to keep these guys far away from out roster.

Sims must know that this is his opportunity to be a part of something, right? An opportunity that he might never have again.

well, at least we’re not missing a starting point guard this season…felt like for so long every season was the same, no point guard…

keep forgetting to check, but has there been any status update on mitch’s health?

just checked your weather cyber – looks like it feels absolutely wonderful there…

Yeah, Geo, the weather in Porto is great. 80 or below. I have some mountains between me and Porto/the sea, so it’s around 90 here. 😛
My parents had one of Bob Seger’s albums and in the 70s, early 80s, you would be highly influenced from what you had, because except radios, and in Portugal they played mostly bad music for my taste (LOL), there wasn’t many ways to hear new music. I think it was the “Against the Wind” album.

Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then” is worthy of a KB debate on whether it makes sense or not. 😉 😀

Not cleared for contact, not likely to be ready for training camp. Get ready to start our first all-in season with Precious at the 5 and probably no Randle either.

What’s the O/U on games where both OG and Mitch play? 15?

hi mister doogie, i hope all is well for you sir…

i’ll tell ya – you can never take for granted that someone is well that day, or at any moment…

many of us spend a good bit of time simply hanging on, and making it from moment to moment…without hurting ourselves or others, or simply screaming aloud incomprehensibly (that one is my challenge)…

the feels like a number thing hits me a bit whenever i’m encountering a large organization, like the government and its many agencies…

i get it, soooo many people to service…still, the whole “one size fits most all” type of medical care is not so welcome…

i feel super blessed to have free health coverage for the rest of the time i’m here – however, more and more i am missing the advantage of a good family doctor…

a good family doctor can really make such a huge difference in life…someone whom doesn’t work for a big organization, with all their rules, policies and continual fiscal restraint…

everything in its time, on the list of things to do: get additional health coverage…ma’s got a good family doc, i need to go see him…

Jesus Doogie, what part of “hanging out at the VA waiting to see my doc…” didn’t you understand?

I am fascinated to find that having a good team actually means there’s less to talk about. Seems when we sucked there was always something great to bitch about. Now, it’s only absurd hypotheticals like “Would you rather have DDV or Hart if you couldn’t have both?” We know we’re weak at center with no real moves to make and we have lots of injury recovery concerns that only time will answer.

Carry on, geo. May your appointment bring you nothing but good news…

I am fascinated to find that having a good team actually means there’s less to talk about.

Do we blow it up, go for the tank, who we should get as our new coach, whose contract should we stretch, how can we get Dolan to sell are all off the topic table ( perhaps not the last one).

Let’s not forget how is it that we STILL have no point guard…

    Or decent wings…

    thanks raven…

it was funny, my doc told me he’s retiring, he’s taken good note of the progress i’ve made with my health since i’ve stopped working…

i don’t know, we all have a timer on us it seems for how long we can effectively stay in the workforce…

this is my 3rd primary care physician in a row to retire…i need to find a doc younger than myself 🙂

not to talk about you like you’re not listening in here – the doogie situation is an interesting one to me raven…

first things first: we need a functioning community for all the folks whom come here seeking – whatever…

not everyone has the same social skills or grace…

doggie said some stuff the other day that makes me think, maybe he’s locked up a bit with his own perspective, the note he shared about how those around him accept him – with love and appreciation it seems…but, totally different circumstances…

maybe there’s a bit of a disconnect with the ability to understand others…and, how to manage that…

the answer for that is in establishing behavioral rules for yourself…much much better to be cautious in social situations…

there was a comment he made yesterday:

I have zero desire to see Alien Romulus. Not my cup of tea…….but enjoy if that’s your thing!

that really drove home the point about that disconnect…

big time social faux paus that if you’re not so in touch – you would never realize or get that that’s some stuff you shouldn’t really say…

feeling so far apart from others myself, it pains me to see other folk having a tough time connecting…

i know one thing – doogie likes being here, and he wants to fit in…

i am rooting for you sir…

this is a hard world to stay humble in, but, if you can do it doogie, stay humble and patient and you’ll get there…

ThisChicanery said “Trap was very much not awesome and don’t let anyone try to trick you into thinking it was.”

I said “I have zero desire to see Alien Romulus. Not my cup of tea…….but enjoy if that’s your thing!”

Why is that so different? 🙁

Good Katz mailbag to get through the dog days.

On a persistently debated Knickerblogger topic:

Based on your reporting and knowledge of the NBA, what is Randle’s trade value at this very moment before a potential contract extension? Either in player compensation, matching salary plus draft pick compensation or a mix of both. (For what it’s worth, I do not favor trading Randle. — George G.

Here’s what makes discussions about hypothetical Randle trades so difficult: I don’t believe there is a team in the NBA that would value the three-time All-Star more than the Knicks do.

I texted this question to someone who works in a rival team’s front office and received an answer I expected: “Neutral, at best,” the person said.

Randle’s contract is fair. He makes $28.9 million this season and can become a free agent next summer. But the fear of having to pay him, especially when his skill set makes him such a specific fit, makes it difficult to find suitors willing to give up any package that would be worth it for the Knicks.

As I’ve reported already, there is no indication the Knicks are trying to trade Randle, which means it’s difficult to gather a true gauge of his market. So to break this down further, let’s travel to New Orleans, where the Pelicans are dealing with a similar, real-life situation.

The Pelicans have fielded offers on their All-Star wing Brandon Ingram, who is three years younger than Randle, has been an All-Star and has averaged more than 20 points in five consecutive seasons. But months into the offseason, they haven’t been able to find any viable suitors.

Ingram, a lanky, 6-foot-8 wing, is a free agent after this season and is hoping for a significant raise next summer. He’s a specific fit, too, even though he’s stylistically different from Randle. He doesn’t shoot enough 3s to threaten defenses while spacing away from the ball. He’s best with the rock in his hands and is an underrated passer (not many players have the size and vision to toss the cross-court dishes he does), but his presence doesn’t guarantee a high-voltage attack.

Teams are worried about what happens when Ingram’s contract is up. Do they want to pay $40 million a year for him? Or maybe more? He makes $36 million this season. Thus, there hasn’t been much action on him, even with New Orleans making it clear to the rest of the league that it is down to make a deal.

The Pelicans won 49 games last season, and they’re not trying to get worse, just as the Knicks would not make a Randle deal only to weaken this season’s roster. New Orleans also understands that bringing back Ingram for even an identical price, which is not Ingram’s expectation, would mean paying nearly $140 million just for an unproven quartet of Ingram, Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum and Dejounte Murray.

The Pels are at a standstill, as I believe the Knicks would be if they chose to move on from Randle.

But all of this is moot. The Knicks are holding onto Randle for now, and he enters the upcoming season with an argument as the team’s most important player.

I don’t really understand that last line–Jalen Brunson will be our most important player as long as he can walk with everyone else competing for a distant second–but I just might not be insane for suggesting Randle doesn’t have Leon by the balls.

“Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then” very much makes sense, cyber. It’s just about going through life and maybe learning some unpleasant truths about life as you get older that you didn’t know when you were much younger (often because you didn’t have to know them). Or maybe it’s just because you know now that your wife has been cheating on you, and you are longing for the times when you were still ignorant of that fact.

Pretty simple, really. That’s my take.

    “Why is that so different?”

Super slow day here, so why not.

One is an informed opinion (he’s seen it) on a topic that was being discussed, with amusing turns of phrase (very much not awesome, don’t let anyone trick you…). The other was a rank dismissal of someone’s else’s interest, sight unseen, with a snotty or perhaps passive-aggressive backhand masquerading as a polite nod (if that’s your thing).

“The other was a rank dismissal of someone’s else’s interest, sight unseen, with a snotty or perhaps passive-aggressive backhand masquerading as a polite nod (if that’s your thing).”

Except for the fact that none of that was happening in my head. Sometimes it’s on the perceiver(s) seeing something other than what is intended (especially if one already does not like the original writer—like you, but not like geo), and not on the person delivering the message. This is undoubtedly one of those cases.

good question doogie, social interaction is just sooooo freaking complex and nuanced…

you ran in to some trouble with the end portion of the statement:

“but enjoy if that’s your thing”…

it’s not really your place to give anyone permission to enjoy anything…

well, unless it does involve those close to you, and it’s your stuff…

I’ll be honest – I probably read more in to people’s words than most…

I’m getting better, but my level of paranoia is pretty high…I watch people pretty closely…

“…but I just might not be insane for suggesting Randle doesn’t have Leon by the balls.”

I’m still waiting to hear your plan for replacing Randle if he decides to walk. I’m also waiting for you to go on the record with your prediction of Randle’s salary in 2026-27.

Randle’s leverage is in the Knicks’ inability to replace his production. He is in a great position to bet on himself by not opting in. He could easily tell the Knicks that he would rather opt out and risk making less money than sign a deal paying him dramatically less than whatever a run-of-the-mill multiple all-NBA players and all-stars in their primes tend to make. What would you do if you were Leon? Would you trade him in a “neutral” trade? (whatever that is, especially since you used that term to describe what you would have traded him for two years ago…maybe you’ll explain that means now.)

What you don’t seem to be processing is the point that when Katz says “…I don’t believe there is a team in the NBA that would value the three-time All-Star more than the Knicks do….” he is actually saying that the Knicks value Randle more than the rest of the league does because they have no way to replace him. You yourself said that losing him for nothing would be a disaster. I don’t understand how you can interpret that as anything but that Randle has way more leverage than the Knicks do.

That Katz piece is kind of a hatchet job. And that Ingram comp is downright disingenous. My takeaway there Randle-wise is that the beef is back on

There is an ironic element to doogie dealing so proudly in the written word while at the same time struggling so mightily to communicate with it that I should find amusing, but I don’t.

As for Seger, I think his lyric is a middle-aged answer to The Faces’ post-adolescent refrain I wish that I knew what I knew now, when I was younger. Seven years and several hundred thousand miles later, Seger seems to agree with Robbie Robertson that theirs is a goddamn impossible way of life.

Bob Seger is an excellent songwriter whose skill gets overshadowed by his voice, which, in my opinion, is maybe the best sounding voice of any white man I’ve ever listened too. It’s the ine thing I share in common with Julie Cooper.

“Bob Seger is an excellent songwriter whose skill gets overshadowed by his voice, which, in my opinion, is maybe the best sounding voice of any white man I’ve ever listened too.”

Loved Bob Seger, but my love only goes around 10 songs deep. I dig his voice but it’s not in my pantheon of white male voices in the rock genre. I’d personally put Elvis, Gregg Allman, Don Hendley, Elton John, Van Morrison, Sting, John Fogarty, Roger Daltrey, Rod Stewart, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant, Levon Helm, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and some others over Seger, but he’s certainly great and unique in his own right.

I mean, there’s no right answer I guess, as it’s all subjective. But some of those guys you list just aren’t great singers, even handicapped for their whiteness:)

That said, hope you and your son enjoy Teseschi Trucks next weekend! Wish I was gonna be there with you, dying to catch them again.
