CAMDEN, NJ — Did the Knicks mess up by not trading for Jimmy Butler?
The logic for declining to negotiate with the Timberwolves at the time, as outlined by team president Steve Mills, was that the Knicks were no longer willing to sacrifice assets for a player they could acquire in free agency (the…

At least a couple NBA teams have approached the Knicks to inquire on Damyean Dotson‘s potential availability, a source tells Marc Berman of The New York Post. Berman’s report gives no indication that the Knicks are looking to trade Dotson, but he suggests the team may have to consider a move by February’s trade deadline, […]

Emmanuel Mudiay will try to keep the hot hand going when the Knicks play at Detroit on Tuesday night. New York (7-14) has won three straight after a 4-14 start.

While Enes Kanter is back in the starting lineup and averaging rouhgly five more minutes per game than his career average, it would still make sense for the Knicks to explore a potential trade.

DETROIT — There was a Damyean Dotson sighting Tuesday night. And it was a sight for sore eyes. Proving plenty to Knicks coach David Fizdale, Dotson, who had not played a minute in the previous four games, was summoned early in the second half, with Mario Hezonja in foul trouble. In 23 minutes, Dotson pumped…

DETROIT — David Fizdale has heard the playoff talk from his players, but he’s really still just focusing on the ax he brings on the road as symbolism for their mission. “You just try not to get seduced by our success,’’ Fizdale said at Tuesday’s morning shootaround before the Knicks three-game winning streak was snapped…

DETROIT — The Knicks’ spirit and shotmaking went missing in Motown on Tuesday night and so goes their three-game winning streak. Playing their eighth road contest in their past 11 games, the Knicks looked sluggish and saw their winning vibe smashed by the more physical, more veteran-laden Pistons, 115-108, at Little Caesars Arena. The night…

DETROIT — The offensive numbers are awful for Mario Hezonja since he was named the New York Knicks’ starting small forward four games ago versus Portland. But coach David Fizdale has seen phenomenal growth in Hezonja’s defense, even highlighting the forward’s work on that side of the ball during film sessions. Hence, Fizdale has stuck…

Umm…don’t look now..but this level of play by THJ just may be sustainable! He may even become an all star under Fiz’ tutelage. I can’t believe what I’m seeing nor that I’m saying this, but what’s really impressing me is the way he finds other ways to show up when his shot isn’t falling. He’s getting to the line yal! Next thing you know, he’s got somewhere around 20 points or more off of 4-6 baskets made. He’s still super streaky with his shooting, but who knew we’d see this version of THJ? This is absolutely nuts!
We have the right coach. I can’t wait to see what the team looks like once KP is back and the kids are developing.
Sure, but I think we need to establish what it actually means to be a worthwhile “project.”
There are some players in the draft that you can reasonably expect to be productive in the NBA, but for various reasons (specific flaws that need to be addressed, physical traits, etc.) it’ll likely take a few seasons. I’d put guys like Giannis, Jonathan Isaac, De’Aaron Fox (though he’s becoming good quickly), Kristaps Porzingis, Mo Bamba, and Mitchell Robinson in this category. I’m happy to draft them and wait because they demonstrate, at least to some extent, what their production in the NBA could look like.
There are other players who get labeled as “projects” simply because, well, they aren’t good at anything. Unfortunately as of now it feels like our last two lottery picks fall into this category. It’s one thing to say “if Player X develops a consistent jump shot he’ll be great.” It’s another to say “if Player X learns to shoot, pass, rebound, dribble, and play defense he’ll be great.” If you find yourself being tempted by one of these guys in the draft, the chances are overwhelmingly likely that there’s a better choice.
Here we are, about 25% into the season, and we’ve seen how this team can compete. Even in losing, they are doing really well. It makes me believe, that with one or two pieces beyond KP, and a bit more time, this team is on it’s way. How easily could this team be a 15 win team? How many games were lost in the last few minutes? I watch every game, hoping for a great game. I’m seeing that and the light at the end of this dark tunnel too.
