Guys, let’s take the elephant out of the room. We can talk about Dolan, KAT’s extension, and everything else, but you all know that we’re always champions when one of you comes to visit me in the summer/fall.
Z-man did it last year… who’s going to do it this year? We need some portuguese magic! LOLOL

That only works in even number years. This year you have to come to NYC and see the championship banner in person!

That only works in even number years. This year you have to come to NYC and see the championship banner in person!

Now that would be amazing! 🧡💙
I just got to get rich in the meantime!! 😀

headed back home today…yay…weekends are always much better to make the drive…

got kicked to the curb again, received my partnering up walking papers…it’s happened a couple of times before, think this one will stick…i’m a stubborn guy, want what I want, so kept trying…

not really managing the distance or my dad role, or even the dog owner stuff well enough to remain in a romantic relationship…we’re still friends though…

I hate failing…hate lying to myself even more…

sad truth, I feel relieved…feel like shit cuz i couldn’t make it work…feeling like a failure is worse though…

    oh well, fuck it…

The KB Council of Elders has determined that your money is no good in NYC anyway, the only cost would be your flight and time away from your lovely family! I’m not rich, but if your mom comes, her money is no good either! I mean, hell, we owe you our first championship in 53 years!!!

geo, keep breathing in and out and putting one foot in front of the other. Orange and blue skies 4eva!

Geo, if there’s a certain sense of relief there, then maybe things aren’t all bad.

Y’all know I was not hyped up about Wiseman, and still not sure I want to roster him…….but to be fair to him his pre-season stats over 4 games are pretty impressive: 25/13/2 with 81.3% FG. I’m assuming that Drum will work on his free throws, and he had 19/16/4 per 36.

Still concerned about not having a truly defensive-minded center, but maybe a couple of blocks per game from Drum and another from Wiseman (if he’s even on the floor enough, which would likely only occur with foul trouble/injury for KAT or Drum) would be enough given the offense they bring to the table over Mitch.

Geo, not sure I’m following, but in these cases, the curb-kicked usually wins in the end over the curb-kicker.

Which is why I want a happy ending for Wiseman. Maybe it can happen? I mean, if Enes Freedom Kanter can have a whole long career, so can James.

So in my confused courtship with Andre Drummond, the Athletic posted an interesting article on the best at each position, including immediate backups, so we have a list of backup centers at our disposal. (Knicks are third at center, and second overall teamwise to the Sixers, which is arguable but also understandable).

So here are the second team backups, according to Murray:

Kornet, Bagley, Drummond, Bona, Reed, Adams, Portis, Raynaud, Beringer, Huff, Mara, Bryant, Looney, Williams III, Queta (Mitch is starting here), Landale, Smith, Horford, Ware, Ayton, Bitadze, Stewart, Kalkbrenner, Murray-Boyles, Gafford, Nurkic, Queen, Maluach, Wagner, Lopez.

So who’d you rather have? Remember, these are centers playing behind someone else starting, for example Gafford who I once liked is playing behind Morez Johnson, whoever the heck that is. Also, availability is a skill, speaking to Williams and Adams for example. And being washed is the antithesis of a skill, maybe he was great two years ago, but now?

Doogie, on balance, Drummond was probably playing tougher opposition than Wiseman, because Wiseman tended to play when everyone had their deepest subs in. So I’m not sure that statistical edge is real.

    Shams:

The Philadelphia 76ers are signing 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall to a two-way NBA contract, sources tell ESPN. Fall enters his fourth NBA season after the 76ers convert his exhibit 10 deal.

The belief with Drummond and Wiseman is all rooted in belief in the organization, from coaching to teammates to support staff.

Drummond just turned 33, and to my knowledge, has not had any chronic injury issues. It’s easy to dream on the organization mining a couple of late prime years out of him by getting him in peak physical condition and putting him in a system that is tailored to his strength-weakness package. We saw some things in preseason that suggest that he might become one of the better backup C’s in the league, especially on a minimum deal. It’s clear that Mike Brown is trying to do this. He’s not asking him to be Mitch, he’s asking him to be sort of a Mitch-KAT hybrid, and Drummond seems very happy with the challenge of this role.

With Wiseman, it’s clear that he has some big-time physical gifts. Seems like it’s all between the ears for him. This is where Mike Brown’s patience, positivity, and people skills will be instrumental. If he can’t get through to the kid, no one can. And if he can unlock something with him, even in a tertiary role, it would be amazing. Keep it very simple at first. Catch Lobs, set screens, move your feet on D, go vertical, don’t reach, box out, run the floor. He should never be allowed to shoot 3’s or dribble in traffic, and he should not try to chase blocks and rebounds when he’s out of position. Just focus on your base, meaning footwork and positioning, and on reading the play. If he could just eliminate the really unforgivable stuff, there’s a baseline NBA player there.

Raven, I think that list is misleading in some cases because some bigs are more versatile than the list allows for. For example, OKC uses Chet as the primary second C, Cleveland uses Mobley, and Miami will surely use Giannis there quite a bit.

If Wiseman is going to pan out, it’s going to take a minute. He has missed a lot of development time and doesn’t seem to be a quick learner either.

Maybe this turns out to be a good situation for him, and a full season of being on a defending champion roster with a quality coaching staff gives him that development he needs. Right now he still seems pretty raw, and at 25 the clock is ticking. But it looks like he’s going to get the roster spot, so let’s see what Mike Brown can do with him.

    1

Absolutely Z-Man, one of various reasons that the rankings that they put forward are questionable. I only put this up as it’s a nice example of actual bench bigs to compare against Drummond, who is certainly a bench big (as compared to Giannis or Chet or Mobley).

According to this list, Ware backs up Myles Turner. YMMV.

    What Bo said…

The Philadelphia 76ers are signing 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall to a two-way NBA contract, sources tell ESPN. Fall enters his fourth NBA season after the 76ers convert his exhibit 10 deal.

They are trying to find someone slower than Embiid.

The concern with Drummond is entirely about footspeed in the playoffs and whether opponents can play him off the floor.

If a trimmer Drummond can move well enough or wingstop hedging towards ballhandlers can cover for him, then Drummond will work out great.

For the regular season, he’ll be good. Maybe great if the passing continues.

I’m hoping and praying that the floor for Wiseman is higher than Adem Bona’s, who was unplayable in the playoffs, and for a lot of the same between-the-ears reasons.

The KB Council of Elders has determined that your money is no good in NYC anyway, the only cost would be your flight and time away from your lovely family! I’m not rich, but if your mom comes, her money is no good either! I mean, hell, we owe you our first championship in 53 years!!!

Cyber put me down for a few meals should you visit NYC!

Thank you very much, my friends. I was half-joking, i’m not rich, but i’m not poor (thankfully!). One of these days, i’ll be in NY, and it’ll be a blast to know you guys. 🙂

Dink Pate isn’t back. He was a sign-n-cut:
The Knicks signed free agent wing Dink Pate to an Exhibit 10 contract and subsequently waived him, the team announced today.

Anyway, he’s not a center. Who cares?

    Myles Turner starts

Forgot about Myles. Are they trying to win? They could “gift” us Ware, in a move like other teams do with the Lakers. LOL

The Knicks signed free agent wing Dink Pate to an Exhibit 10 contract and subsequently waived him, the team announced today.

That (probably) means he’s going to Westchester.

Dink was a fun watch in Westchester last year. Nowhere near being an NBA rotation player, but he’s so young that maybe he develops. He’s got good height and length for a guard and some skills, but as with many, it’s mostly about whether he can hit shots consistently.

The thing with Drummond is that you don’t want him to overdo it trying to become fast and nimble in too much of a hurry. He seems to be in a good place physically right no, and I would hate to see him getting set back with a calf or hammy by trying to to too much. He’s got 6 long months to get into playoff shape from this better baseline. Take it slow, big guy!

Kyle Kuzma is the nominal starter at PF for the Bucks but I would guess Ware is going to get lots of minutes at both the 4 and 5. Ware is a very intriguing young player. I think he’ll have a good career.

Weird move by Dink. Would he have been draft eligible if he stayed in the NCAA?

Apparently he wasn’t ruled eligible for NCAA

    Washington cut Trevor Keels. OAKAAK.

UPDATE: And Philly waived Dillon Brooks, while Portland waived Sochan.

    OAKAAK.

    Sigh, yes, Jones.

    But also:

The Utah Jazz have claimed center Tony Bradley off free agency waivers, sources tell ESPN. Bradley was the Jazz’s No. 28 pick in 2017 and now returns where he spent his first 3 NBA seasons.

    OAKAAK

So will the Knicks decline Dadiet’s club option by the Halloween deadline or pick it up for salary filler next year? I’m guessing that they decline it.

There is NO way they pick it up, Z-Man. It’s been such a pain to get rid of even this small a contract, there’s no way they would risk being stuck paying him again a season from now. He’ll either be filler in a deadline trade, or he’ll just play out the string and sign somewhere else next season.

UPDATE: And Philly waived Dillon Jones, while Portland waived Sochan.

Maybe the Philly announcers jinxed him. I watched part of their last preseason game and the announcers were commenting how he’d been on the last two champion teams.

“He’ll either be filler in a deadline trade, or he’ll just play out the string and sign somewhere else next season.”

…or alternatively, they keep him and he becomes the greatest player in Knicks history! Hey, ya never know!!

You know, Dadiet didn’t standout in any way n his last couple of games but he was one of the first players off the bench in the last pre-season game and to me he looked competent. He could fill a need for us. I used to hope for much more from him, and he didn’t deliver, but now I think he still might be worth keeping.

Leon should move heaven and earth to get his hands on this guy, but alas, we don’t have the goods. Only if KAT ends up getting moved in a multi way deal.
