    Question of the Day:

Are the Knicks the NBA champions?

Good luck to everyone going to the parade! Report in as often as you can/want. I have to record two podcast this morning, so I’ll be watching it on a delay.

    1

Dolan’s edict to stay out of the second apron pretty much spells the end for Mitch and Landry as Knicks. Shitty as that is, their departures would appear to open the door to retaining Mo, who looked as good as gone until yesterday.

We got here at 7:30 and couldn’t get closer than a block west behind the Trinity church. Totally mobbed. Assuming that there’s not a killer stampede, still great to be part of this orange and blue sea!

What might be happening in the NBA is the owners are counting on the fans to not really understand the apron penalties so they can create a de facto salary cap without negotiating one.

But we’ll see. I’m still banking on “Dolan’s a blabbering narcissist, and the people in charge will figure it out”. Going over the apron (if you have your team in place) is actually a huge competitive advantage. It’s probably the second biggest advantage you can have in the NBA after rookie contracts.

I also trust the Knicks to be able to play “I can’t do that day” long enough for the White House thing to blow over.

    On to el paredo.

Too bad i live thousands of miles away, now this is a parade i’d like to be a part of. 🧡💙
To all of you who are going, have fun and stay safe! 🏆🥳

Was going to write what Hubert just did, for fuck’s sake stop it Hubert.

As for someone’s comment yesterday about Dolan not being a racist, okay maybe, but he’s best buddies with a guy who might not be the biggest racist in America but is certainly the most important one, and he’s trying to force his team to socialize with the guy.

“What might be happening in the NBA is the owners are counting on the fans to not really understand the apron penalties so they can create a de facto salary cap without negotiating one.”

This. So much this. Just as the leaders of this nation are counting on their increasingly incorrect assumptions that this nation’s electorate is too stupid to understand what is going on, so goes Dolan……..

It’s weird. When we won Game 5, the traditional White House visit didn’t cross my mind for even a millisecond. I remember how upset I was that Trump was going to Game 3 (vibes, etc.), and although we lost that game, I cannot truly attribute it to him being there (although I hated how difficult he made it for fans to attend the game). It ended up being a big nothingburger that I worried too much about before it actually occurred, and I’m guessing that Dolan’s uninformed/mistimed comments are much the same thing. I am confident that the right people will make the right decisions, and we’ll be a contender again in ’27.

I ultimately opted against waking up at 5 when it became clear to me that if you had to use the bathroom anytime between your arrival and the end of the parade, it was over for you. So I’m watching with the assistance of for air conditioning and the views from the TV. I’ll also be at the KFS afterparty if anyone else is going. But salute to the soldiers out there!

Happy parade day!! Wish I could make it but like Danny Glover I’m too old for this sh!t.

Re: Guitar Jimmy, I find it hard to believe that he wasn’t already thoroughly briefed about the 2nd apron not only last year but also recently as it pertains to the upcoming draft and his current players on payroll.

I know he’s a social moron, but I guarantee he is able to understand cap basics.

My hope is that he’s just using said apron as a negotiating tool like, “darn it, Landry, I’d love to pay you more but we can’t lose future flexibility. But hey, NYC LOVES you! That’s worth more than the extra $6 mil Portland is offering you.” Or whatever.

So why do you keep donating to him by patronizing his product? How does your conscience allow you to fork over money to that monster?

Really, anyone who feels the way you do but willingly sets foot in Dolan’s arena, even for free, or pays him royalties to watch his product on TV, or wears merch, should feel dirty. You’re part of the machine. Might as well were a MAGA hat while you bitch at Trump.

I am genuinely sorry for bringing this over to a new thread, but I can’t let it go because I think it represents a deeply misguided kind of dorm room nihilism.

No, it is not the case that one loses their right to criticize any system they participate in or any individual they incidentally patronize. You can coherently think Jeff Bezos should pay higher taxes and order from Amazon, think carbon emissions are a serious problem and take flights, think factory farming is a disgrace without being vegan, and think Donald Trump is a shit bird while not engaging in tax avoidance and/or sedition.

These attempts at hypocrisy gotchas do little more than inculcate the idea that there is no point in trying to be an ethical person and critiquing power when it’s warranted, which is exactly why it’s a message loved by authoritarians the world over. The fact that 21st century capitalism makes it basically impossible to live a decent life without participating in some amount of wrongdoing doesn’t mean we should all shut up and dribble.

There is obviously a level of complicity at which point one crosses over into genuinely disqualifying-for-criticism hypocrisy, but no, supporting the New York Knicks as a basketball team while bludgeoning their executive chairman doesn’t cross it.

My sister still hasn’t fully recovered from seeing Mookie Betts at the White House. She was pale and stuttering for days. She had no idea that bowing to the prez was a part of being good at sports. (She specifically started following baseball in 2025 to escape from my fellow Donnie).

These attempts at hypocrisy gotchas do little more than inculcate the idea that…

Actually they do a lot more: they take our attention away from the Knicks.

No more feeding the trolls on parade day.

The Knicks don’t belong to Jim Dolan any more than a Rothko would if he bought that, too. They’re not his product, they’re his asset. He owns the franchise and its operating rights. The fact that we have to pay him, or in Brunson’s case work for him, doesn’t make anyone a hypocrite or a sell out. Just a participant is a system of ownership.

i think i just saw jerome williams walking with the team…looks like he just got off a plane

I think the main question is not values but change. How do you change this system of ownership. Participation on an individual level, without an effective organizing body, has very little influence.

Best line Ive heard ( on MSG feed), ” You don’t know who Lance Thomas is you (sic) not here.. you don’t know who Earl Barron is you not here…” ( recruit this dude for KB!

Multiple people have already referenced Earl Barron as a symbol for past Knicks futility 😂 poor guy.

I have some sad news to share.

I recently learned that Gary Henman, known to many of us here as Gkhenman, passed away suddenly on April 10. I only discovered this after wondering why he hadn’t been participating in a group chat of Knicks fans he & and I were in.

I had dinner with Gary when he visited New York earlier this year. He was exactly the kind of person who made an evening better simply by being there. He was gregarious, warm, and genuinely interested in others. He spoke often about his family, especially his daughter, Asha, of whom he was immensely proud.

Gary worked for Vanguard and was approaching retirement. He told me about his plans to move to Belize and spend the next chapter of his life in the place he loved most. It was clear he was looking forward to it.

There is one part of this story that I can’t stop thinking about.

Four weeks ago, Gary’s family scheduled a celebration of his life and invited those who knew and loved him to gather in his honor. The date they chose — a month ago! — was Saturday, June 13th, the very day the Knicks won the championship.

It’s hard not to feel sadness that Gary wasn’t here to witness this run himself, knowing how much joy he would have taken from it. But I prefer to think of it another way. Maybe, in some small way, he was guiding it all along.

Rest in peace, Gary. You will be missed.

For those who would like to learn more about Gary or see some of the tributes shared by his family and friends, I’m including a link below. Please note that it is his daughter’s Instagram page.

I can understand, “I disagree with you — I’m fine with The Dictator.”

I can understand, “I agree with you, but there’s nothing we can do, if we try to do anything, The Dictator will find us and kill us or throw us in jail.”

I can understand, “I agree with you, but let’s not talk about it anymore, if we do The Dictator will find us and kill us or throw us in jail.”

I can understand, “I agree with you, and I’d love to do something about it, but both you and I know that the way we were raised and educated and the way our personalities are, it’s going to be tough for us psychologically to try anything and we’ll probably fail.”

I absolutely cannot understand — and hardly knew it existed (*) — “I agree with you about The Dictator, I hate him too — but you cheated on Hilda for eight months last year, so you’re a hypocrite, who are you to criticize?!!?!?!?!?”

(*) But as a dedicated humanist, detester of authoritarianism and authoritarians, and Knicks fan, I’m glad that being a Knicks fan taught me something new about authoritarians today.

Damn, sad news about gk. Enjoyed interacting with him here and sounds like a great guy in civilian life. Really sad that he couldn’t have seen the playoff run and been part of KB while it unfolded. He would have loved it. RIP.

Gary was such a positive person, so sad to hear of his passing. RIP………..

Haven’t paid any attention to the parade due to work, but I hear there are tornado warnings all across upstate NY, from Chatham (my old stomping grounds) into Saranac Lake, at least… How’s the city weather?
