Knicks undefeated in game one of the playoffs in the Jalen Brunson era.
That nut kick was dirty. Worried Atlanta is going to try and go that route as their only way to drag this out. Hopefully no one gets hurt and it’s just good preparation for us for later rounds.
LOVED seeing KAT’s passion in the second half. When Brunson cooled off after getting nut kicked, KAT took over. Maybe these playoffs KAT will finally shake off the soft label. His defense was pretty great at times yesterday.
Can Orlando and Philly make Detroit and Boston sweat at all?
Solid win.
If KAT can play with this level of effort and aggression in every game in these playoffs…
The reason I never factor Philly in is that you can’t count on Embiid to be healthy – and he’s not. If he were OK, that would have been a uniquely bad matchup for Boston. As is, maybe Philly wins a game.
Orlando is a mystery to me. I had them second in the conference and they barely made the playoffs. So who knows.
I’m in Boston, by myself, with the afternoon to kill. Should I?
How very sad. Sure, though…….go ahead and kill the afternoon. Don’t get a ticket for the Tigers/Red Sox game, though. It’s a likely rainout, as you’ll be able to tell by looking out your hotel window.
Had the same choice when I was in Phoenix for like a week for work in 1993 (*) and the WCF against the Sonics was in town. I chose yes. Game 1.
Ticket was $72, CPI calculator tells me that’s $164.88 in 2026 dollars. That seat in the Garden for the 2026 ECF would be at least $1,500. As a general observation, while I suppose quibbling could be done about this at the margins, there’s no way imaginable that the NBA product is nine times better today. Even adjusted for NYC/PHO, there’s no way the improvement in the product accounts for anything close to the difference.
So the “choice,” such as it was, was a no-brainer.
Good thing there was no KAT “fit” trade!!
(*) Saw Starks’s dunk on TV in Majerle’s bar. Crowd went berserk.
Exodus bagels in roslindale.
If you’re near Quincy, I love Rubato. Awesome Fried Chicken Bao. Great Hong Kong French Toast.
Compare this thread to three years ago after we beat Cleveland in game 1 of that first round series and you can really tell how far we’ve come. Oh we win the first game in a playoff series? Ho hum.
I think Donnie is a vegeta
I got to the Garden, ticket in hand, but started vomiting all over Lancaster Street from the sight of all that 2038-10 surrounding me. (Turns out, I’m not a truly reformed Knick fan, I’m just an NBA droog half-freed by the Ludovico Technique).
Googling 2038-10 yields nothing at all except the calculation equaling 2028. Not helpful.
Sixers are fraudsters.
Kick your google a few times then try it again
Donnie, i hope you brought a sign…

At least Donnie got to see Scott Foster ref a game.
This is wonderful, thanks for sharing, Director. It is indeed a great time to be a Knicks fan.
A skirt that makes the saddle of the unicycle disappear rendering an image of a pole and a person on it vertical like is certainly a choice.
The funny accents are getting to me.
CJ McCollum really trying hard to take the role of hawks villain over from Trae. Dude, just stop it. We all saw you clearly wind up your leg and kick JB in the nuts. You can’t act that kind of pain.
What a tool. We have replay dude.
LOLMets
Mets about to end their schneid, when Michael Conforto doubles off of Devin Williams to tie the game. Hackneyed dystopian baseball narrative that actually happened. At least he struck out PCA to send the game to EIs.
Wow, is that 11 straight losses by the Mets now?
Okongwu questionable for tomorrow with knee inflammation.
Cut to KAT doing his impression of the Jack Nicholson nodding meme…
The Mets again scored one run and had six automatic outs in the lineup. They had three players playing out of position. I know that Soto and Polanco are hurt, but this is a travesty of roster construction.
Pistons vs. Magic could be a good series if the Magic decide to show up again.
If Jalen Suggs and Josh Hart played on the same team, that team might never lose…
ha, cuz we stole your staff dipshits…and thank you very much, cuz they’re pretty good…
6 duds so far in the first round…bit of a let down after the play-in stuff…
let’s hope the magic can keep it going all game…
magic spent last week battling the sixers and hornets in a couple of high stakes basketball games…
pistons spent last week hanging out at the house playing video games, eating cheetos, getting high and waiting…
it showed during that first quarter…
go magic…
Ozon’s The Stranger is fucking good
magic look a lot better with wagner as their secondary ball handler instead of banchero…
“magic look a lot better with wagner as their secondary ball handler instead of banchero…”
Seems like one of those two has to go…too redundant.
I know they’re shaking off rust, and will likely win the game, but I like seeing a purportedly dominant team look beatable…
Careful what you wish for, I’m still a free agent. Donnie Magic Fan has a nice ring to it.
I guess Paolo was saving it for the playoffs.
I can’t watch it, but I’m happy the game is competitive. I want all our potential opponents to work hard; and, anyway, it is good for the game not to have all blowouts in the first round of yge pkayoffs
Magic believes in magic
This seems like it should be a 4-5 instead of a 1-8…
I like franz’s game more than banchero’s (seems to make less negative plays) – however, wagner somehow seems even less durable than paolo…
I dislike both these teams, and rooting for Bane is almost impossible, but I so want the Magic to win
*a decent game here . First interesting outcome so far of the weekend
* series can still go in Detroit’s favor, but outside of Cade and Harris the scoring talent looks suspect . Would be interested to see if Duren still ends up a max player..
Detroit are frauds.
The fact that all the fans are gone with a couple minutes left means Detroit has no right to win. That would never happen in MSG.
Deeeee-troit basketball…
ha, first round failures…thought the pistons would dominate up front with duren, stewart and harris…
not so much, carter jr and franz came to play…
Pistons choked like dogs…
This version of Detroit has yet to win a game at home.
It’s not Detroit. Magic matched Detroit’s physicality and their team defense was impressive. Their paint protection was exceptional.
I wish we could do that against Detroit. Three games this season they were pushing us around like toys.
Did they choke Z -man
Or are they a try hard team *
The biggest thing in the box score is Duren. Duren gets a lot of points on lobs , not all that skilled .
Danis Jenkins is a nice story – but can’t really rely on that
*Magic play similar to the Pistons as well . Matchups
Would also say the Magic are clearly undervalued due to Franz injury .
nice job with the fan shirts in san antonio, looking good…
hope the spurs lose too…
The Magic are finally healthy and it looks like they are as good as some thought before the season. This series is far from over. The Pistons are very good. But it’s pretty funny that the talk about the Magic was that management, the coach and several players were out after season and now that they are healthy they played back to back terrific games and are up 1-0 against the #1 seed.
Ausar is also a bad offensive player
25 percent from 3
57 percent from free throw line
*that can be exploited
interested to see how deni’s running back surges to the rim work against the spurs…
every game deni seems pretty undeterred by whoever might be trying to protect the rim…
he’s gotta go through both castle and wemby to get there this series…
we shall see how that goes…
Deni will 100% have to hit some perimeter shots
I’m interested in big man Clingan going up against Wemby.
Who knows what will happen in the rest of the series, but a wire to wire win for Orlando is still impressive.
CJ is probably the nicest guy in the league, he’s like the Kevin Johnson of his day. (But, then again, Kevin Johnson was also a knick villain once, so there’s that I guess.. (but, now that we’ve seen Doc Rivers punk his own players as a coach, that Clash of the Lightans back in ‘93 makes a lot more sense, right?))
yeah, almost forgot portland has their own seven foot plus guy in the middle…
klingon already seems like a really skilled and well coached player, good on the boards and can hit from three…
Yeah, choked like dogs is more about lolPistons than reality, but they were outplayed on their home floor by the #8 seed, and that’s something that can’t be handwaved away.
That said, I felt all year that Orlando was better than their record and Detroit was not as good as their record.
the spurs bench is going to bury the blazers…
I think Portland matches up pretty well with the Spurs.
Orlando got embarrassed in Philly just 4 days ago.
And in Boston a few days before that.
Weird team…
Stealth tank
Avoid playing Boston to play an easier opponent
Cade scores 39, they get 38 FTAs, shoot better from deep than Orlando, and still lose.
Fun times.
wow, jerami grant is on portland’s books for 34 million next year and a player option for 36 million the year after that…yuch…
it seems a combo of a healthy suggs and franz equals winning for the magic…
hope they beat the pistons and then the cavs…
just noticed: carter jr. outplayed duren in the boxscore…ha…double ha…
Orlando definitely wanted to play the Pistons, but man, what bullshit for the Pistons, that a team like the Magic shit themselves into the #8 seed. I don’t feel TOO much sympathy for them, because if the Magic were rightly the #5 seed like they SHOULD have been, the Pistons would have still had to play them in the second round maybe. Or, whatever, if you are the #1 seed, you can’t complain too much about getting too hard of a #8 seed matchup, but it’s still true that it sucks for them. Just like it sucked for Miami back in 1999 (and why they were desperately trying to avoid having the Knicks finish #8).
Yeah with Orlando healthy I’m not that shocked they could potentially make this a series or even win it. Orlando is basically the one team in the east that Detroit can’t do Detroit things to in order to beat them.
Still think Detroit wins but, man, it would be fucking sweet if Orlando took them out before we had to play them.
I don’t really care that much who wins the ORL-DET series. The only team I am worried about right now is Boston, and they looked tremendous today.
I generally agree, but at the same time, let’s say the Knicks DO get past Boston, you’d probably prefer Orlando being there instead of Detroit, right?
Cleveland swept Miami in the first round last year as a #1 seed & than lost game 1 and 2 vs Indiana, never recovered, and got gentlemens swept.
Same with Boston. They coasted through 1st round and then ran into a Thibs buzzsaw.
Think this is good for Detroit long term. They need to experience battles and win a few tough 7 games series to become real contenders.
Hot takes for the talking heads tomorrow:
– Hawks showed they can hang with the Knicks
-Celtics are an unstoppable force marching to an inevitable berth in the NBA finals
-Pistons are in trouble.
not yet
“I generally agree, but at the same time, let’s say the Knicks DO get past Boston, you’d probably prefer Orlando being there instead of Detroit, right?”
Honestly, if Orlando beats Detroit and Cleveland, they will largely go back to where they were in the preseason polls as a formidable team to face. I guess I’d rather face them than the Pistons, but it’s too remote right now to even consider. Whereas, the Celts are right there in our path.
“Cleveland swept Miami in the first round last year as a #1 seed & than lost game 1 and 2 vs Indiana, never recovered, and got gentlemens swept.”
They were very banged up.
“Same with Boston. They coasted through 1st round and then ran into a Thibs buzzsaw.”
They were also very banged up.
“Think this is good for Detroit long term. They need to experience battles and win a few tough 7 games series to become real contenders.”
Maybe, but it was just as likely that it was bad for them long term. In other words, maybe they Thibsed out during the regular season and now their flaws are being exposed and they don’t have another gear.
That was pretty much what we all thought DURING the regular season, right? There’s no way that they were typical “number one seed” good. Sort of like the 1994 Hawks. Can you BELIEVE that team was the number one fucking seed? They were BALLS.
