2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Wizards: Say Goodbye to 2024 With a Win

The Knicks were obviously A. tired the other day on the second half of a back-to-back and B. Looked past the Wizards.

That will not be the case tonight, so I expect a beatdown!

Let’s go, Knicks! End the year on a hot streak!

👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻2024👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

Let’s Go Knicks! 🏀💙🧡💙🏀

… And make it a little easier please… 🤓

They got that guy what wears silly clothes back tonight.

Hope he keeps Champagne off the floor…

Kuzma playing tonight is a big plus for the Knicks, less Justin Champagnie (who really should be playing on New Year’s Eve)

I wonder how many chips have been planned to Abu Dhabi because of the 10 million commercials every game

OG has become the opposite of automatic with the corner 3.

He’s jerking his shot. He’s been doing it on and off all season.

We’re looking better. Now let’s try to build a good lead, to have the starters play (a little) less than usual.

Brunson gonna have to put up another 55 to win this one the way the rest of the team is shooting

The monstars stole this team’s ability to hit threes, this is looking silly by now.

We’re in a prolonged team slump from three,
but OG and Deuce are slumping from anywhere…

Payne opted to check the “stupid 3P with a lot of other options” in the 1st half to get it out of the way. 😀

The shooting slump is getting into McBride’s head. He’s passing up open looks — which only enables a guy like Payne to shoot more.

I love Josh Hart and he’s having a great season but a 17-points quarter wasn’t in my bingo card…

You know the Wiz coach wishes Poole and Kuzma would stay hurt so he could play his scrappy young guys more.

That’s a long, athletic team the Wiz have on the floor, you know, the kind that gives us trouble….

I would like to hear a psychologist’s take on why Hart can’t pull the trigger on open 3s even when he’s been nailing them all night

I can see how KAT’s antics annoyed Timberwolves basketball fans. His approach can be so lax and dumb. The fouls are especially a buzzkill. We need for him to stop fouling himself out of games.

So does any team have a long, athletic, rim-protecting, floor-spacing 4/5 collecting dust on their bench? Asking for a friend.

KAT and Josh both in fouls trouble, the bench again gave us nothing and we’re shooting threes like we’re blindfolded…

And we’re gonna win this game.

It is nice to have a team so talented that they can win even when playing like shit.

As long as you don’t mind grinding your all-NBA PG into dust by the all-star break…

Mikal 8 pts in 9 FGA
OG 7 pts in 8 FGA (2 FT)
Payne 3 pts in 3 FGA
Deuce 0 pts in 4 FGA

At least half of these 4 needs to step up.

Towns with some highlight reel plays…

Max, did you check whether that dumb-o-meter registered that Mikal pass a couple of minutes ago?

I answered my own question by the way: it’s Mo Bamba! He’s averaging 12 minutes a game and only makes 2 million. Go get him for a 2nd rounder or something.

Watching the last 30 seconds of last year’s Game-2 against the Sixers still gives me goosebumps…

Max, did you check whether that dumb-o-meter registered that Mikal pass a couple of minutes ago?

I fainted away Z-man 😉

If you could guarantee me that Brogdan would stay healthy, I wouldn’t mind picking him up…

ROY this year is such a shit show I was wondering if Bub had a chance. I looked his numbers and they’re terrible, but he looks good against us.

watching the stream, and it’s on the “Monumental Sports Network”
hmm, guess if you lived in Washington and sat down to watch NBA, you might take umbrage at that title

Every time Knicks start building a lead Washington comes down and buries a 3pter.

but hey not defending the 3 ball is the scheme! (in a age when they are jacking up record attempts)

Every time Knicks start building a lead Washington comes down and buries a 3pter.

And we help them do that with stupid turnovers, like that Brunson pass.

Bub took 3 shots to the head on that play…from OG, JV, and the floor. Hope the kid is okay.

We couldn’t score with a Wizards player lying on the ground

That sums it all up! 😛

It’s hard to believe the Wizards only have 5 wins given how much trouble they are giving us. Jordan Poole’s value must be between -5 and -10. 😉

Whenever the Knicks decide to play defense for a few mins they’ll put this game away but they don’t seem up to putting forth that much effort tonight.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen someone get wheeled off after hitting their head. Scary, hope he’s alright.

Nothing will top Paul Pierce leaving the court on a wheelchair during the NBA Finals before miraculously returning to save the Celtics.

Thibs may not be playing Josh Hart enough minutes. He’s too good to not play 48 minutes. Wilt could do it! 🙂

Can you imagine being a Wizards fan and having to listen to the crowd boo a Knick foul call?

Can you imagine being a Wizards fan …

You should have stopped right here … because I can’t even imagine being a Wizards fan.

If the Wizards get some lottery luck this years, they could be a fun young team next year.

So does any team have a long, athletic, rim-protecting, floor-spacing 4/5 collecting dust on their bench? Asking for a friend.

Not a believer in Pr3cious?

Josh Hart dominated the game tonight, third triple-double of the year, he just does whatever it takes.
What a player.

The trade Leon made to get us Josh Hart is lowkey one of the greatest trades in franchise history. Top 5 for me. He traded Cam Reddish, Ryan Arcidiacono, Svi Mykhailiuk and a protected first-round pick to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Hart. What a steal.

Ant-Man fined 100K for bad language. I remember when you had to put a quarter in the jar…

Thanks for this game, Josh Hart!

Damn, KAT is just ridiculously talented, I know how good he is on offense and he still has those plays that surprise me.

How many of you complained and/or hedged when the Leon traded for Hart?

Have you repented your ways?

Do you guys think all these Knicks fans are New Yorkers making a road trip or NY transplants?

This is where Thibs needs to read the room. The starting lineup is playing lax like the game is over, because it is. Get the bench guys out there!

Sometimes I think the starting lineup lowkey mutinies on Thibs by forcing him to sit them down in games like this.

The funny thing about keeping starters too long is that they clearly stop playing hard once they know the game is won. The Knicks might be the worst garbage time team in the league even with their starters. So the bench is not going to be that much worse!

Game kind of changed after the Wizards big man was concussed out the game. Don’t know if that had an impact, but it did feel different after he was wheeled out.

But by trading for Hart the Knicks missed out on drafting Cam Whitmore…

With Whitmore we’d have won 2 titles by now.

Seriously, while the Wiz are still a mess, I see some light at the end of the tunnel if they play their cards right.

Cant tell if this bench unit isn’t strong b/c they’re just not that good or if Thibs is playing the starters so much that most of the bench just doesn’t get enough burn. Watching a lot of garbage time this season and the bench outside of Deuce just doesnt seem like they can get into a rhythm. There’s no energy when they come in.

Sometimes I think the starting lineup lowkey mutinies on Thibs by forcing him to sit them down in games like this.

That’s why I don’t mind those 2 extra minutes most of the time, yeah 40 looks much worse when compared to 37 if you must look at the minutes, but those 3 minutes guys were literally just walking out there. I know, injury risk, etc, but still something to take into consideration.

Josh Hart is just a winning player and I love him so much.

Seriously, while the Wiz are still a mess, I see some light at the end of the tunnel if they play their cards right.

I’ve come out of these two games thinking the two French kids, Coulibaly and Sarr, are both real talents, and they’ll get another top 5 pick in what should be a pretty good draft next year… but it’s hard to be confident in an organization that’s been such a mess for such a long time to develop these guys properly.

How many firsts would Minny have to include with Randle and Divincenzo to make a reasonable trade offer for Towns?

That’s interesting, because I see it the opposite: if those 3 minutes were just starters running through the motions then its wasted time, no? Might as well get your bench unit some minutes.

The load share for the starters is quite favorable. You don’t have one or two guys trying to run through brick walls every time down court. Kinda helps manage wear and tear.

If you ever want to feel good about spending your life as a knicks fan, google “best Wizards teams ever”. (For those disinclined to cut-and-paste that, I’ll tell you the results: the top 5 teams include a team that was swept in the first round; a team led by Gilbert Arenas; a team with Marcin Gortat as the 3rd best player; two teams from Watergate Era that didn’t even have Clyde Frazier on them.)

it’s wasted time, I agree, just not as tiring as 3 “real” minutes would be for the starters I guess.

Do you guys think all these Knicks fans are New Yorkers making a road trip or NY transplants?

I have a lot of friends and family in D.C. so I often make the trip for the game. It’s much, much, much cheaper than seeing the Knicks at MSG, and that includes everything from the bus to D.C., to food and drinks for the whole damn weekend.

Didn’t go this year because I have NYE vacation plans, but last season I got a Kyle Kuzma weird pink sweater bobblehead out of it.

Starting 5 is easy top 3 in the league and could be the best. Mith solves rim protection and offensive rebounding. Deuce is a 2way combo guard who will get his game back. Thibs trusts both.

Leon just needs to land one more two way vet that Thibs respects before playoffs and then its on the players to perform this spring.

Problem is that I can’t even think of a player that fits and is gettable. Any ideas?

TNFH that makes sense, but how do you explain the predominant Knicks crowd in Orlando?

I’ve always guessed people retiring in Florida are part of this but that surely can’t be all of it

A lot of retired NYers in Florida, especially central Florida. For example, my dad moved to Palm Bay in ‘05. Palm Bay’s population has grown a lot over the years and that’s mostly due to retired folks moving in. Several of his former coworkers also live relatively near him.
