2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Pistons – Detroit Considering Signing Elfrid Payton to IMPROVE Its Team

That’s just hilarious.

Please just kick their ass early enough that Thibs can rest some dudes.

Things are looking great for winning 58!

Let’s go, Knicks!

First and last game thread comment as dinner and a concert calls. Y’all carry the ball, gents! Deuce Deuce!

Holy shit, Orlando! Well, listen, does it suck? Of course it sucks, but, well, better them than the Knicks, soooo….fuck ’em.

Funny, I would have guess that Brunson would be the first guy out, hopefully he’s fine.

KAT’s sore knee did play 10:32 in the 4th quarter of the tight strongly contested game against Charlotte thursday…

Well done

Huk will definitely play tonight. Question is, will Kolek? Or will deuce be the only guard/wing backup again?

My guess is that Kolek plays in 2Q and then whether he comes back in the second half depends on how he does and how the game is going.

Huk should play but who knows whether Thibs will Thibs and just overplay Precious and OG to back up Sims?

Per The Athletic:

“Wagner suffered the injury during the Magic’s narrow loss Friday night in Philadelphia. After that game, in which he played 38 minutes and scored a game-high 30 points, Wagner spoke with reporters and made no mention of an oblique injury. He also did not appear to be in any unusual discomfort.

Seems weird, I thought it would be too painful an injury to not be noticed…

Maybe it stiffened up after his shower…or he did it lifting a beer stein later that evening

The pistons are going to want revenge for their last game with us. This game could be very tough.

tonight may be the road to damascus for the insurgent “actually sims is good now” party

That was the Syrian war joke I should have come up
with. If Huk is the rebels I am with them.

Did the rave reviews jinx Jericho or were the rave reviews a little bit premature? (I think you know where I lean… 😄).

Hukporti is a better player, now he just needs to convince Thibs and enter the circle of trust…

Assad was using the same AI that is funneling all the Squatty Potty marketing budget into Knicks games.

As for Sims, I just asked the question.

Pistons shooting 62% and honestly I’m surprised it’s that low. This defense is traysh

Last time we played the pistons it was 39-13, this time we are down 23-39. So overall, this team is weird

If KAT was playing it’d be just a bad game, because he isn’t obviously it’s ALL because he isn’t playing.

Maybe we should try something different than the Leave Malik Beasley Wide Open For Three defense

Those two games where Mikal Bridges didn’t stink were like some beautiful hallucination

Brunson has 4 turnovers and I believe they’re all on the dribble (not bad passes) 🤔

We had been playing well recently and we’re missing the guy that is probably our best player, so I guess I’ll give a mulligan for this. But this sucks

Streaks are made to be broken so sooner or later the Pistons are due for a win against us and maybe this is night but it’s still early…

Cade seems to be pretty comfortable from 3 this year. Definitely starting to look like, shall we say, not a bust?

I have a feeling the Knicks were out partying all last night with all the Knicks legends. 🤮

This Pistons team is waaaay better than last year’s. Between the development from Cade and Ivey and the vets like THJ, Harris, and Beasley, they might have enough juice to sneak into the play-in.

Why am I watching this game? These are minutes of my life I’ll never get back. They better wake up fast!

After we blew them out in our last game with them they seemed to get religion and played much better.

I’m expecting a loss tonight.

I had to stop watching. Not because of the suckitude. For other reasons.

Did Jericho Sims play himself out of the rotation?

I think we need Pags doomsaying to have any chance to win this. Where are you Debbie Downer?

Can’t imagine how this site will be on Tuesday after the Knicks lose at Toronto on Monday…

We just can’t get stops in close games. Twice we got it to 4 and then the Pistons just scored at will. It’s a bummer.

It’s amazing how bad we can be on defense with defensive specialists in the team and a defensive expert for a coach.

Maybe as they are so up and down with every aspect of the game, they should practice?

The Wizards broke their 16-games losing streak (whoops, bad omen) despite Jokic’s 56 points…

P.S. Nuggets miss Murray and Gordon but still…

Jordan Poole attempted 20 three pointers tonight. I’m too lazy to look up most attempts assuming he’s close?

By the way, you have to be super duper stupid to use as little clock as the Pistons have in the last few minutes. Super duper stupid.

Fuuuuuuuuuuck. And after they actually smartly killed the clock.

By the way, you have to be super duper stupid to give as much space to Malik Beasley as the Knicks have all game Super duper stupid

BUT THEY STILL DO!!

Oh, come on, refs, what the fuck!? I’m sure Hart was being a douche, but come on!

JFC Josh…

It’s tough, because yeah, we all know he was probably a douche, but they did just let the Cunningham chirping go. So it’s hard to blame Josh too much.

“It’s tough, because yeah, we all know he was probably a douche, but they did just let the Cunningham chirping go. So it’s hard to blame Josh too much.”

Yeah, but the game was still in the balance. Can’t do that there under any circumstances. I’m sure Josh will be the first to admit it after the game.

Pretty lousy performance, another sleepy start, a ton of missed FTs and turnovers, a mostly bad defense, an offense with less ball movement and spacing…

Maybe as they are so up and down with every aspect of the game, they should practice?

I honestly didn’t get this “the Knicks don’t practice” narrative that popped up after Thibs’ last game maddening starters management…

You have 2 new starters (plus at least another rotation player), a new center to “anchor” (ahem) your defense and you don’t practice?
It sound silly to me, I don’t even know if it’s true…

All NBA teams barely practice during the season especially in stretches when there is only 1 day off between games.

Brian, I think you just can’t do it in those situations.
You’re trying a desperate comeback, you can’t gift wrap the other team a FT, every point counts, plus you (Josh Hart) are an important player and your ejection is another help to them…

The jerseys don’t win by themselves. If you don’t bring it as a team, you are going to lose. The lack of defense was embarrassing, particularly in the first half, and even free throws were coming short. Too much partying last night? Who knows. Basketball is not like soccer. The better team always wins.

Obviously missed free throws and poor D on 3’s killed us but I thought the refs were pretty terrible all game – punctuated by no T on Cade when he deserved one and the T on Hart. They were so many drives and pick and rolls that Brunson got fouled on it allowed Detroit to stall our offense. The spacing is clearly poor without KAT.

I also think it’s a game like this where not having a bench to go to hurts you. Need an energy boost. But Thibs seems to have no interest in trying any of the other guys out – Huk seems out of necessity cuz Sims has played awful lately. Give Kolek, Didaet some run for fucks sake

At least we’re not the Nuggets, who lost to the Wizards with Jokic scoring 56.

“We don’t practice, I just play the starters 40 minutes every game and that’s how we learn to play together” doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense

I think it’s fair to say that the step down from KAT to any of Sims, Precious, or Huk is like one of those Road Runner cartoons with the tiny puff of smoke at the bottom.

I shudder to think how this team would be if they didn’t make the KAT trade and had to play this season with just Sims, Precious and Huk at Center even with still having Randle and DDV.

iHart leaving really did force their hand to trade for KAT even though in the long run I believe it was definitely worth it.

Seemed like a typical trap game loss, you’re not gonna win a lot of games in today’s NBA when you shoot 32% from 3, miss 11 FTs, and get outrebounded by 12.

I figured Monday would be the trap loss, having to travel just for 1 game before the Cup quarterfinal back at home on Wednesday.

iHart leaving really did force their hand to trade for KAT even though in the long run I believe it was definitely worth it.

The jury is still out on that one though it is true that losing I-Hart forced their hand. Most of our wins came because of our extremely potent offense. Defensive pathologies are still obvious and only in very few games (or stretches during a game) did we show we can defend well.

The biggest concern for me is that it was yet another loss to a young, super-athletic team who kinda just ran us ragged.

It’s interesting that we had such a terrible defensive game without Towns. We had 48 minutes of Sims, Precious, and Hukporti at center and it didn’t really make a difference. And that’s with OG having an incredible game, too.

The biggest concern for me is that it was yet another loss to a young, super-athletic team who kinda just ran us ragged.

That embarrassing 39-point first quarter, including several unforced turnovers and about 20 fast break points shows that the loss tonight has nothing to do with being tired. The players just didn’t bring it, for whatever reason. They were sleepwalking.

On a side note, the two elderly alums who I think would have been fucking awesome in today’s game are Jerry Lucas and Bob McAdoo.

“Boston lost at home to Memphis while shooting 18 for 60 from 3pt.”

And without Prichard and Brown, they were 10-46. It happens! At least they have the excuse of being on a tough B2B.
