2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Hornets – Don’t Let These Hustlebunnies Hang Around

The Knicks get a rematch of what was almost their worst loss of the season, but instead, the Knicks followed up that close victory with a demolishing of the Orlando Magic, and now they will hopefully crush the Hornets, as well.

Let’s go, Knicks! I wouldn’t hate them winning 58!

Nick Richards is playing for them, at least. That’s something.

Tyler Murray is an okay announcer, but he looks like the friend of one of Clyde’s grandkids who’s come over for a PB&J sandwich…

Pull up a stool, Tyler, let me get you a glass of milk…

Pepper gets in first…

Here we go, Let’s Go Knicks! 🏀💙🧡💙🏀

Another smooth relaxing win please! 🤓

If we’re the team we hope we are we should win the next 4 handily, going into the cup final at 17-8 and having won our last 7 games and 12 of the last 14. That’s a 57-win pace.

Feeling melancholy these days, and meaningless as this is I could use a meaningless lift. LFG!

With Precious in and Payne out, does Thibs add Kolek to the rotation for the night? Or do we only play Deuce as a guard or wing off the bench?

(Dadiet got assigned to Westchester this morning, so he’s not available.)

Shit I forgot these guys nearly beat us without LaMelo last week, and we seem to be doing that thing where we spot them a 10-point lead in the first five minutes.

Big WLotS potential here.

so the kid asked thibs from one coach to another “how do you get your players going?”

we obviously didn’t hear the answer, because there was none. oof slow start

One of our classic “we are so good we can (not) win without breaking a sweat” start…

I started at 4-12 so i’ll have a better +/- than all of you that started at the beginning of the game. Take that for data! 😀

Is it too early to say this would be the worst loss of the season?

Way ahead of you, D-mar. Too bad the site that showed we have the most time leading by 20+ doesn’t have a stat for “down 10+ within the first 3 minutes,” we’d be dominating the entire league in that one.

You could pay Charlotte’s starting 5 salary with KATs and have change left over…. and we are “back within 8”

Brandon Miller was called 6’6″ in the introductions, Clyde called him 6’9″ just now, and NBA.com has him at 6’7″.

Just sayin’.

We’re getting blown out at home by the 26th best offense who is missing their only good offensive player.

They have one player available with a TS+ over 100 and that player has a USG% under 17.

This is happening with them shooting 1-6 from 3.

I should have known better than to let some optimism creep in.

OG appears to be still looking for his jockstrap after the way Miller went by him

Rough start

I don’t care about his supposedly great rim protecting stats Sims is still God awful.

charlotte are 28th in first quarter points this season.
are we doing well?

just punt the starters they clearly are still asleep.

I’m concerned…where’s our rj Barrett in game update?

So far he’s playing like Sims but on higher usage.

Kind of wish I was at the Garden right now. That was a fun close to the quarter.

I think Brunson could average 30 if he wanted to. Such a great scorer.

Jalen had to play savior in the first quarter, it’s time for the other guys to wake up…

It’s not nice of DaQuan Jeffries to revenge game us after we made him very wealthy to avoid getting hard capped

That was a super tough shot by Towns

The “stare down turnaround” is something I wish I had come up with

My son just put toothpaste up his nose. He thought it was something else.

Eventually they have to start missing. Josh Hart may not though.

I’d like Micic to lead our 2nd unit, he has great court vision, almost always finds the open player.

And I thought Thibs was going to sit Bridges a little earlier now that Precious is back. Maybe no Payne means Bridges doesn’t sit at all?

Josh is slacking. 0 rebounds?!

Bridges has played first 18 mins of the game.

Good thing we got Precious back.

Mikal’s atoning for the ugly turnover… and then he missed the and-1 and another ft…

Cyber you’re right about Micic, I love him

bridges avg of 0.7 FTA per game is going to skyrocket thanks to the last 3 minutes

OG has about 20 deflections but half of them have gone to a wide open Hornet

Brandon Miller is like early career Jayson Tatum – great game followed by 10-30 game

What’s the over/under for Sims’ minutes in the second half? 0/0?

We’re shooting 59% overall and 50% from 3 and up only three points.

Defense still an issue

And I want to apologize for the take-down of Hart’s man bun. Clearly uncalled for.

I wish Oak was capable of going coast to coast and dunk off a steal! The scariest site on a basketball court was Oak dribbling the ball.

charlotte played the kat and mouse game for the entire half and the mouse was undefeated

charlotte played the kat and mouse game for the entire half and the mouse was undefeated

A classic Tom and Jerry routine

Do the Knicks have 40 assistant coaches? Seems like a new face every time they do that pre 3rd quarter interview

A 5 year old could learn how to put their hands up on defense but apparently it’s too much for Towns.

KAT doesn’t flop, he tries to actually score thru the contact but the refs don’t reward him for it.

I laugh every time anyone talks about the Knicks having such a high FT%.

Do they realize Mitch is eventually coming back?

Josh has run more fast breaks this year than Melo did in his whole tenure

I keep getting a squatty potty ad on Gotham for women with some kind of GI complaint. . Who the heck do they think is watching the Knicks?

read a shams tweet ghost written by adam silver without throwing up in your mouth challenge

Bridges has great arc on his corner 3s which is the opposite of the linedrives he shoots from his above the break 3s.

I like how Towns tucks the ball like Saquon Barkley as he goes to the rim.

All starters in double figures again, and i don’t think there’s been many Knicks in my lifetime that I loved as much as Josh Hart.

This is great.

Kind of insane that Mikal has played 32 consecutive minutes in a 20-point game.

This is all very nice but I’m still a wee bit concerned/annoyed that we are essentially playing a six man rotation against a horrible opponent in December. We’re in Game 7 mode here, so we really SHOULD be smoking these fools.

I think Thibs forgot to put “Take Mikal out” when updating his rotations for Precious

How the hell did we get KAT?

Sorta reminds me of the Celtics fleecing the Timberwolves for Garnett, except their GM isn’t an ex-Knick.

Charlotte getting switches to go from Mikal to OG to Precious defending them is hilarious

Leon to Thibs:
“no Christmas gift this year, I already gave you an iron man to play with…”

The Deuce/Mikal/Hart/OG/Precious lineup could be really fun defensively.

Why is Mikal still there. Come on, Thibs.

RJ tonight has 6 pts on 1 for 10 shooting.

Don’t worry, his doing a stats-padding masterpiece bringing the Raps back from -36…

Do we think there is an assistant coach there who tells Thibs that he didn’t sit Mikal?

Took a bit to get the engines warmed up but we’re doing what we’re supposed to do now.

+25 with 7 minutes to play, four starters in and one of them has played the entire game.

Tell me it isn’t pathological…

Max, one thing I’ll say about the minutes (and I’m with you, it’s crazy) is that apparently the team is never practicing, according to James Edward III, so they are not accumulating minutes on off days. Basically they are getting a ton of rest between games.

All under control… going to get some sleep!
See you tomorrow for the RJ vs OG daily thread! 😉

Why not sub offl Mikael and play a rookie? You don’t have to play 5 rookies, you could kind of, I don’t know, stagger them through the game.

Not in thibs world

I so wish Thibs wouldn’t do this. It sucks to have something to complain about.

Jimmy Butler really waged the most effective disinformation campaign in history because I can’t think of a more talented offensive big man than Towns

Does Fan Duel have an over/under on minutes played? Cause Thibs is definitely in on that action and making a fortune

I think Tom Thibodeau has some sort of brain damage, like he sustained a massive head injury at some point in his life

Guys, I’m not sure Precious will be hitting that corner 3 with any semblance of regularity.

Pretty amazing after the 1st half Knicks wind up only allowing 101 pts for the game.

Is Brunson injured?

He’s probably faking an injury to avoid Thibs’ “rotations”…

Funny part about the minutes thing is Brunson hasn’t played a second in the 4th quarter of the last 3 games.

There might be something nagging with Brunson. They mentioned that he had his midsection wrapped.

Deuce plays the same position-ish as Brunson and he’s the only other dude other than the five starters who is in the Circle Of Trust. So he gets to play all the garbahj minutes.

‘something nagging with Brunson’

He was holding his side or hip (probably side) for a bit, I think early in the third?

It is so awesome to have so many vintage Knicks in the building. And to hear Clyde energized by this team is priceless.

“He was holding his side or hip (probably side) for a bit, I think early in the third?”

Official diagnosis: He’s nicked up

Clyde has been getting a bit cocky lately though constantly referencing himself as the greatest Knick ever. Since Patrick Ewing is my favorite player ever I take offense to that!

Pistons aren’t nearly as bad as Charlotte, can’t let them sneak up on us Saturday.

Clyde has been referencing himself as the greatest Knick ever for decades dating back to the Ewing era, at least.

I remember one telecast during the pre-Lebron era when Al Trautwig, who was always snippy, took a jab at him for this by introducing him as the greatest Cleveland Cavalier ever.

Postgame show talking about the starting five having more points than any other starting five.

Let’s ponder why that might be… could it be that nobody else but the starters actually play?

James Edwards III did a pod with Macri and emphasized several times that one counterintuitive thin about Thibs is that he doesn’t have the team practice much between games. Seemed to be saying that Thibs believes that game play time is incrementally more valuable and so he just just goes with the numbers.

I can’t think of a more talented offensive big man than Towns

It’s Jokic, by a large margin, but Towns is really fucking good.

I think Tom Thibodeau has some sort of brain damage, like he sustained a massive head injury at some point in his life

This is the best explanation I’ve heard so far….. forceps delivery….

Imagine how many minutes Wilt would have played if Thibs coached him for a decade…

Thibs must have a shrine to Wilt’s minutes somewhere.

I could just see Thibs in place of Red back in the day: “Willis is a little nicked up…”

Clyde was an amazing player. I turned 68 today and I am so lucky to have watched him and the 1969-1973 Knicks play. Beautiful music. This team has a chance, but they need to turn up the bass. While they can still be really successful, it can’t be all offense. It needs to be a mix. As an aside, Pags, I am sorry your legal career was stressful and full of regrets. However, you should not lay that on youngsters that may be motivated to enter the profession. That is unfair to the youngins and myopic.

I understand the championships but objectively speaking just looking at the stats Ewing is the greatest Knick ever and it really shouldn’t even be a debate. We all know he never won a championship but his teams were pretty damn good too. Not to mention the heavy burden he had to carry considering he didn’t have any HOF teammates while the entire Knicks starting 5 from the championship years are in the HOF.

Ptrick Ewing is the most talented and individually accomplished Knick ever by a mile.

He is nowhere close to being the Greatest Knick Ever.

Ewing was absolutely great-no debate. But to me greatness is not just measured over time, but in the moment, like a photo. Cases in point. Willis, Clyde and B.

interesting info, reference rotations and minutes played…wow, that sounds hard on the other 8 or so guys on the roster…how do they get better?

i guess they’re just waiting for one of the top seven to eventually break down…

hey thibs – respect my authority – so sez the minutes police…

Ewing might be the best Knick ever, but how many other teams would he be the best player ever on if he’d played for them instead of in New York? Maybe the Hawks?; maybe the Pacers?. I dunno, was Ewing better than Pau Gasol? (Is Gasol the best Grizzle ever?) Regardless, the answer is “not too many, if any.”

The highest 5 man minutes is of course the Knicks starring five. (As per NBA advanced stats)
