So Scott King was the guy that Julius had the iPad incident with. Seems to me like his departure removes the final obstacle to an extension.

Seriously, I tend to think Leon has brought stability and continuity to the team. But the turnover in the FO, ass’t coaches, and roster from his first season does not imply this. I guess what really matters for continuity is his and Thib’s vision.

A lot of the coach turnover seems to be that we have very good coaches that other teams want

“A lot of the coach turnover seems to be that we have very good coaches that other teams want”

Exactly. Other teams poaching our coaches is a good sign.

“…we have very good coaches that other teams want…Exactly. Other teams poaching our coaches is a good sign.”

Sorta disagree. You keep good talent, especially in an organisation where money is no object. We should not be losing the Scott Kings of the world to San Antonio if he was very good. And of our 3 initial assistant/associate head coaches when Thibs was hired–Bryant made a lateral move to the Cavs after having been rejected as HC there, Kenny Payne flopped at Louisville and is now an assistant college coach, only Mike Woodson got and thrived in his dream job.

Bryant made a lateral move because he was clearly blocked here. The others you mentioned all got promotions, which is what you would expect. Just look at all the coaches that went on to bigger roles after working for Popovich.

Bryant left because Thibs got an extension and has no path to becoming head coach. He also worked closely with Donovan Mitchell in Utah.

Payne was given a head coaching gig.

Woodson was given a head coaching job.

Scott King leaving video assist to be a head coach (I think) seems like a promotion.

Remember there is also a new physio/medical hire coming in from Dallas (?), a guy who seems to want more analytics from players to track their health over the season. Maybe the whole Knicks BTS team is enjoying a bit of a refresh.

And it’s not all bad to have more Knick-friendly guys at other organizations, just for intel on players etc. Not that any of these guys would be spies or something but that they may speak favorably about the Knicks org to other players, coaches, etc. I think that’s Leon’s desire all around.

Okay, I’m out of the sphere. I’ve missed the past two weeks here, though. Does somebody want to fill me in, or has it just been doogie doing his Coneheads bit the whole time?

or has it just been doogie doing his Coneheads bit the whole time?

That’s it, you haven’t missed anything except for a few ideas of where the worst drivers in the world are. How was the Sphere?

Ok, you guys (EB,GK, esp KBA) have made me change my mind. I missed that King got a different job in SA. Also Leon’s moving out players always has an element of going to a better situation than you will have here, so why would it be different with coaches.

I know it’s unfamiliar, Bernie, but this is what happens when you have a functional and successful organization. People get poached and move up.

I know it’s unfamiliar, Bernie, but this is what happens when you have a functional and successful organization.

Indeed, we’re all still reeling 😉

PS — Bernie, no snark intended in the pushback from my end (tone here is imprecise). Was just puzzling out the idea along with you.

Honestly, Spotify is apex tech. It’s totally dirty (so was Napster) but if you’re gonna contribute to the intelligence that escapes this planet why not give it some taste. Discover weekly and my newest discovery “daylist” make the world a better place.

The Sphere was pretty wild. Not sure it’s really conducive to live music though. The venue itself if very overshadowing. John Mayer obviously loves doing this (because he could be anywhere yet chose to spend his summer playing backup to Rumpelstiltskin) but, ultimately, the music could be coming from anywhere, and most people there don’t really care about it.

I’d be curious to see the Aronofsky movie, though. Maybe next time I’m passing through.

No idea what KD was thinking passing the ball with 4 seconds left in the quarter. And the return pass gets picked for a quarter-ending steal. Absurd.

Durant is playing like a bum in this game. The team looks like crap every time he touches the ball

It’s like, the only way that Team USA can lose this game is by doing the dumbest fucking turnovers ever…and that’s what they are doing.

t’s a lot of pressure. Some guys just can’t handle it.

    🙂

Isn’t it hilarious? These are some of the clutchest players in NBA history, and they’re just throwing the ball around in the Gold Medal game!

Maybe the Americans depth will carry them in the future, but without Steph,Lebron and KD they feel very beatable in 2028

wemby is coming fast…not there yet, but, both Serbia and France will just get better…South Sudan is coming along fast too…

Also The American Nightmare won WWE summer slam last week. Guest appearance from Jelly Roll and Machine Gun Kelly.
