Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks vs. Warriors (Leap Year Opener, which is not a thing)

The Knicks host the red-hot Golden State Warriors tonight with at least 3/5 of their starting rotation healthy, which is a step up!

Winning tonight would be huge, and the Warriors are so small that the Knicks match up really well against them, so let’s hope Brunson outduels Steph!

And let’s have tonight be the DDV Revenge Game!

Let’s go, Knicks!

You can barely survive playing a lineup with 2 non-shooters, trying to make it work with 3 of them it’s hopeless…

Their shots are not even close. Wow.

Thibs won’t budge from his substitution patterns of course.

Bojan Bogdanović can’t defend Draymond?

The Starting Lineup should be

Brunson
Donte
Hart
BB
I- Hart

Precious needs to be the backup center on this current roster

Put more offense in the starting lineup with BB @ the 4

This start has been the worst display they did since the rash of injuries… they can only play better from now on…

If Thibs was just going to punt this game via terrible rotations again, why didn’t we just rest Brunson?

I’ve been saying that Precious didn’t magically become good…

Precious is fine if he is put in proper lineups

Too bad we had to spot them a 15 point lead before playing our 2nd best offensive player. Thanks, Thibs

Three weeks since the trade and we still don’t have a single play designed to free Bojan.
We badly need an offensive coordinator…

At least we got some good news on the injury front.

OG was cleared today to begin basketball activities.

Randle is working out 3 times a day and may be cleared soon.

Mitch could be back by the end of the month.

I suspect there’s a difference between Pistons shape and Knicks shape, and our two new Knicks are struggling bc they haven’t caught up to the pace yet.

The Warriors offense is so beautiful to watch. Players are moving, cutting, picking, passing etc…

I hear you strat but next to our offense a German Shepherd’s shaved asshole looks beautiful

Sigh… 😢

What’s our record for for fewest points in a quarter? Cause we might not make to 10”

Unsurprisingly, you were only off by around 100%

@BobbyMarks42

Isaiah Hartenstein has earned a $350K bonus for minutes played this season.

The bonus was deemed likely since the New York center reached the criteria in 2022-23.

He is on pace to play the most minutes in his career.

Hartenstein is an unrestricted FA this offseason and has early bird rights with New York.

New York can pay him up to a starting salary of $16M. The contract has to be for a minimum of 2 seasons.

It’s kinda interesting that ATL fleeced Leon in the Cam trade, outcoached Thibs in the playoffs, went all-in on the guy E thinks we should have traded the farm for, made the first round pick of the century in Jalen Johnson after Leon decided to pass, and yet they still are terrible.

All I know is I finally got here and they just scored 7 points in a New York minute. Let’s go Knicks!

Achiuwa has been worse than useless tonight.

Shambolic reffing yet again.

Mitch could be back by the end of the month.

The end of the month is… today! Where is Mitch? 😀

I appreciate the experimentation but I don’t think this three guard lineup is gonna work.

It’s a real game guys,
stop shooting FT’s like you’re at the YMCA playing with your buddies….

Don’t know what’s more impressive re Divo — the poked red eye, the nose plug to slow the flow of blood, or the wolverine tears on his shoulder.

What a dumb foul by Green!

For a player with such a high BB-IQ he makes so many dumb things…

They miss Randle in games like this. If the refs aren’t calling those body bumps fouls, he would be having a fun night.

I hear you strat but next to our offense a German Shepherd’s shaved asshole looks beautiful

Is that with or without the hemorrhoids?

Only down 9 despite the game boxscore looking like a horror movie:

JB 1 ASTs 3 TOs
DDV 1-7 3FG
J-Hart 0-5 2FG
Bojan 0-4 FG
61.5% FT%
16-48 total FG
And Steph has 10 rebounds…

We’re gonna win.

This lineup doesn’t work offensively, but at least it is not working defensively or on the boards either.

The Warriors offense is so beautiful to watch. Players are moving, cutting, picking, passing etc…

So much this. Sometimes I think Devo is staring at his Knick teammates in disbelief that they can’t/won’t do same.

I’ve rarely hated Thibs’ rotations like I’m doing tonight…

Murray looks a lot better without Trae in the lineup back at his natural position at PG handling the ball. It’s makes no sense to try the failed experiment in Atlanta in NY.

What ever happened to the Brooklyn 2025 2nd round pick we got in that Cam deal?

It’s hard to follow all these things. They move around so much.

Our frontcourt rotation is legitimately unwatchable. Just start Bogey instead of Precious for my sanity’s sake.

So is this lineup better or worse than Mudiay, Dotson, Knox, Vonleh, and Kanter?

I’ve rarely hated Thibs’ rotations like I’m doing tonight…

I’m not a Thibs hater, but his stubbornness kills me too. It’s been clear this lineup doesn’t work for like 4 games.

Edit: and now the one sub he makes is Sims for IHart. Kill me.

Stan van Doogie drives me crazy, but I appreciate he called the foul for Brunson. Now if only the refs might do that.

It actually feels like the refs are so angry at being called out repeatedly over the last few weeks for blowing critical calls over and over that they’re on a working strike this game. No fouls will be called.

Deuce 11 pts on 5-6 in 14 minutes. Is that okay for a backup point guard?

Oh yeah, 3 assists and no turnovers.

Deuce without the fro is interesting. It’s like he’s a different guy.

What if before the game is over we try putting the 5 best players on the court together?

I am stunned that Kerr kept that lineup in there so long. “This is obviously not working, let’s stick with it.”

I’m sure he’s a nice guy but I hate Alex Burks right now.

Our Detroit pair is 2-13.

I think I’m done until the cavalry is back. This is just too annoying night in night out.

What about Chris Paul as our backup point guard?

Cuz Deuce is killing it tonight

I’ve been saying this to myself for weeks but I don’t want to miss the Bojan breakout game.

Devo 2 for 12 is pretty much the difference in this game. He hits half of those and we probably win.

Only Deuce and (heh) Sims are shooting 45% or higher from the field.

Take Brunson out (44%) and nobody’s over 34%.

Devo 2 for 12 is pretty much the difference in this game.

Along with Burks bringing only chaos, this is the thing, right? Devo no bueno since the ASG.

Shooting was poor, paint protection was no more there, and neither was the Knicks rebounding dominance. Brunson, DiVo, and Precious looked tired, I-Hart was so clearly not ready, Bogdanovic was a glaring minus, and Burks was even worse. Nevertheless, they never quit. They gave it all they had. They were fighting tooth and nail to get close time after time before seeing the Warriors opening it up again very quickly.

It was expected that this game would be an uneven battle, and so it unfolded from the get-go. Unfortunately, moral victories don’t count. It is sad to watch the Knicks losing to teams they would surely dominate had they been healthy. What is even worse is that we will have to endure the same again and again in the near future. It’s going to be a tough March.

All these games are on National TV.. The NBA isn’t tired of showing this crappy roster

I was gonna say I find it hard to believe that Bojan averaged 20ppg on 60% TS this year…

but then I saw he’s averaging 21.5 per 36 on 60% TS as a Knick.

Did not see that coming.

The two biggest stars in the NBA (Lebron and Steph) come to MSG and end up playing a depleted Knick team. That is an L for Adam Silver and the fans in attendance.

I watched 5min of this game, but we should just play Josh Hart at C next game… we definitely should have done it against Dray

It really is.

Josh Hart was by far our best player tonight. I don’t know where he finds all that energy.

Devo no bueno since the ASG.

I love him and he’s an excellent complementary piece, but it’s his 6th year in the league, maybe the “all-star” and “third star” tags were a little bit overboard… 😉

I was at the game (lots of Warriors fans in attendance) and every time we needed to get a stop or a transition bucket we failed. So freaking frustrating

Can’t believe Steph was 11-26 but maybe it’s because every 3 he made was a gut punch.

And is Kuminga good now? We made him look like Hakeem.

What if before the game is over we try putting the 5 best players on the court together?

I feel like we haven’t tried this since January 27.

Why are we so committed to this Twin Towers bullshit?

Our 5 best guys are Brunson, Devo, Hart, Bojan, Hartenstein.

Could we maybe try starting them one time?

I’m with you there Hubert.

Well, at least I’m getting to watch my little baby Deuce grow up…

every time we needed to get a stop or a transition bucket we failed. So freaking frustrating

Totally frustrating game plus weird box score. It *felt like the Warriors got every single rebound, but we beat them 56/53 total and 17/16 offensive. The 3pt% and totals are roughly even, but they crushed us 56/42 in the paint. A lot of that was better cutting/passing (i.e. running an actual offense), but it certainly *looked way easier for them than it should have.

But how does Achiuwa get his 42min????!!!!!

At least Deuce got the Burks minutes and Burks was relegated to Deuce minutes. WTF is wrong with Burks, how was DET juicing his numbers?

The Warriors didn’t pay attention to the Knicks starting front court on offense all night long

I am looking at the big picture. It is expected that most of the injured Knicks will be back in the second half of March, but that does not mean the team will be the same as the one which spread terror around the NBA in January. Only OG will probably get to 100% at some point. Randle’s game is predicated on physical battles down low using his shoulders, but it is not certain at all that he will be able to do that after the injury. I start to have doubts about I-Hart’s status as well. It looks like this is a lingering injury which will keep him in and out throughout the rest of the season. I hope I am wrong. As of Mitch, nobody knows if he will be back. Even if he does, it will certainly take many games before he gets to his usual self. The best-case scenario, in my view, is that the Knicks should start playing winning basketball again for the last ten or so games of the regular season. That is in April.

We are at 35 wins right now and need probably another ten to be in the playoffs. It looks quite doable and probable, though not at all certain. There are only 22 games left to play. Finally, are we ever going to be 100% healthy in order to make the long expected post-season run?

The two biggest stars in the NBA (Lebron and Steph) come to MSG and end up playing a depleted Knick team. That is an L for Adam Silver and the fans in attendance.

95% of casual fans who tune in to watch LeBron and/or Curry don’t even know who Julius Randle is, let alone Mitch Robinson or OG Anunoby. And nobody checks the Washington General’s injury report before a Globetrotter’s game either.

hopefully we can beat the Hawks next week…

then there’s a back to back with the Sixers, without embiid…right after that the Blazers…

we are not likely to beat the Cavs or Magic…
