Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks @ Sixers (Second Half Opener, which is actually a thing)

The Knicks head to Philly to hopefully opening up some room on the Sixers for the #4 seed.

The Sixers are one of the few teams more beat up than the Knicks, as the Sixers are missing the reigning league MVP, who there is no replacing.

Bojan, DDV and iHart are back, so the Knicks really really need to win this one.

Let’s go, Knicks!

All these stupid gambling commercials and I can’t find one site to give me odds on Donte playing over 43.5 minutes tonight 😒

Maybe not an incineration, but I bet there’s some burning sensation

Only from acute overuse

Grimey was burning a hole in Leon Rose’s pocket. Leon was getting rid of that dude one way or another. The market was apparently not very robust, which is not surprising given the limited scope of Grimey’s game.

Feels weird to say being up 11 after a quarter but Knicks should have a much bigger lead.

Let’s goo!!!!! Burks getting fed and sniping from a set spot seems way better than when he has to eat what he kills. Let’s go Deuce let’s see what we can do with JB resting

Burks and Bojan if nothing else definitely stretch the floor and provide spacing. Really quick releases too.

Bojan looks like that old guy in rec league who just destroys everyone playing in slow motion.

Bojan is the anti-Hart. He’s slow, can’t defend, can’t rebound, doesn’t pass, and hits all his 3s

Edit: lol, and immediately gets the steal!

The New Bench Mob is finding its footing, now if the starting lineup is able to find elbows, shoulders and ankles we’ll be contenders…

Nice! This means you get an NBA press pass, right?

No, but I did just contribute a chapter to a book about football. And had the ultimate sportswriter experience: the editor told me they loved what I wrote, then cut out 40 percent of the most colorful prose to make it fit.

Our bench is gonna be ridiculous if and when everyone is healthy. Precious may not even get on the court.

Instead of bing-bong it’s MVP chants across the country (for Brunson).

Since we already have Hart, also having the anti-Hart is kind of nice…

He’s cooking, no doubt, but holy shit, the Sixers aren’t even trying to defend him!

They quit on themselves before, but that was more embarrassing, since they had Embiid. The way they’re quitting tonight is why I really am not worried about the Knicks holding on to the #4 seed.

Hope they’re just giving iHart a some well deserved rest, hard to believe Thibs is sticking with the smaller lineup when he doesn’t have to

Is Hartenstein injured again?

I imagine there’s just no need to risk anything if Philly is going to no-show. Jericho & Precious have 17 rebounds between them.

They said before the game that Hartenstein would play limited minutes. Since we’re crushing these fools Thibs might as well give him the rest of the night off.

The lineups with both DDV and Bojan in them look pretty tough to guard. So much corner 3 mojo

Yeah, why would you stretch iHart when these bums aren’t even competing? This is pure “going through the motions.” This is what teams thought the Knicks would look like in 1997-98, but Van Gundy and Oakley wouldn’t allow it.

There’s no need to play iHart, but does Thibs know that?

Since he’s back in I guess it’s a very small limit

Not that I’m regretting the Grimes trade this game, but our perimeter guys are getting blown by right now

iHart looks very stiff

Maxey will blow by most guys, especially when you don’t have OG. I think the problem is that I-Hart is not himself so far.

just tuned in, the play i have seen so far is not very reflective of the score…nope…

Likewise. Very happy reading the thread. Very cranky watching Maxey slice and dice us.

Wait. Okay. That’s better.

Knicks teams of the past would probably have blown this game

But they didn’t have Jalen Brunson

Bojan at the 4 works a lot better than the Achiuwa/iHart lineup

It may just be iHart being slow

the play i have seen so far is not very reflective of the score

That’s bc Hartenstein was playing. He’s -2 in a 21 point game, and seems to be playing through an injury for some reason.

Maxey is really good, if he’s the only one on Philly who scores that’s okay

rethinking this

If Brunson got called for that every game he’d foul out in the first half

That gave new meaning to the term “ticky tack.”

The restraint on Thibs to not bring in Brunson yet is amazing.

He rested 3 minutes, 9 seconds.

Why would you pass that, DDV?!

They’re in Philly maybe he’s paying homage to Ben Simmons

Thankfully looks like Philly has run out of gas.

That’s really what it looks like.

wow, who would have thought jalen and donte would turn out to be one of the best backcourts in the league…

I knew once we got josh, and julius was willing to follow jalen – I knew we had a championship level point guard…

just how good a shooting guard do we have right now…

Brunson is 5-18 with 7 TOs. One of his worst games this season. Maybe he partied too much at the ASG.

It has been an odd game but in reality its basically been an ass whooping the Knicks delivered to Philly.

Does Batum have debts or something…. didn’t realise he was still “playing”

The Sixers have Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Boston after this. They’re gonna be 8th in the East by the end of the month.

who would have thought jalen and donte would turn out to be one of the best backcourts in the league…

Yeah, notwithstanding all the injury stories, IMO the real subplot of the season so far: Is Donte for real?

Ricky Council IV is a killer name. Not sure about Ricky Council III though.

Thibs takes Brunson out at the 21 second mark up by 16 and nobody who’s played in the NBA before on the other team.

Thibs be thibs.

So did Hartenstein get reinjured? I missed alot of this game…

I wouldn’t say reinjured. It looked like he played hurt.

Precious, man. Has any other “throw in” on a trade pleasantly surprised me as much. I don’t think so.

the synergy that’s gained from having jalen, josh and donte on the court together is telling…

hats off to precious and his coaches for prepping him to excel in team ball…

lot of talented players who don’t play together with others…

it’s a joy to watch a confident deuce…

I missed the first half and didn’t really see bogey get cooking…but yeah:

bogey >>>> evian

bogey is useful…me and thibs both are losing confidence in alec…

poor guy looks totally out of whack right now…

who knows what it means on a personal level to need to uproot, move and perform at a high level – immediately…

so far, alec doesn’t look too settled…

Hart played basically the first 5 minutes of each half, that is probably something the staff decided on before tipoff.

Bojan leads the team in points & steals in only 23min

100% from 3 is good, right? 😉

Cavs lost to Orlando at home so the Knicks are 3 games back from the 2 seed. It’s a tall order with the current injuries, but who knows…

Gotta figure we lose to Boston Saturday but the schedule after that is mostly teams at our level and maybe we can get OG back pretty soon

Jokic vs the Wizards is one of the more enjoyable NBA subplots of the last few years. He basically never misses against them and has stopped shooting

Sounds like Precious may be my new DLee before long.

And certainly added a dimension to my reading of Riddles In The Dark from the Hobbit last night.

It’s so interesting to see the difference between Maxey and Brunson. Both are now the unquestioned alphas of their teams due to injuries (you make the case Brunson already was but Julius presence on the team is big whether you like him or not) but I feel like Brunson is more of a team player than Maxey. Some of Maxey’s decision making was woeful. Granted Brunson wasn’t much better tonight but think this was just a bad night.

I can’t believe how diminished Tobias Harris is. It was like he wasn’t even out there.

” So did Hartenstein get reinjured? I missed alot of this game…”

Both of those should be considered brain dead management/coaching.

He’s too critical to be playing at less than 100% and risking a severe setback.

The only time I ever noticed him out there was when he was fucking shit up. It was insanely bad. They’re very lucky he’s an expiring contract.

Here’s the thing that got me about Maxey. He’s the proverbial “if I get hot, I can carry a team” type player, and with how shitty this Sixers team is without Embiid, I often wouldn’t mind that approach, but the Sixers had gotten back into the game by playing intense defense and making good decisions, and he instantly, well, you know, did the opposite of that! Why are you trying to shoot them back into a game when you’re down, like, six, with five minutes to play?! Dude just started chucking up long threes for no reason!

Both of those should be considered brain dead management/coaching.

With the way that Precious was playing, and with the Sixers not even really having a “true” center, the idea that they even played iHart today at all was pretty silly.

Whatever they’re doing with iHart, I hope they don’t do it Saturday. We can’t afford to run him around for 12 hobbled minutes against the Celtics.
