    Couple of things:
-According to the article above, Knicks are not all that interested in Bruce Brown. I’ll believe that on Thursday at 3:01PM. If nothing else, this FO has been very good at not revealing their cards in the press.
-DLo was benched for the entire 4th quarter vs. the Knicks, apparently for defensive purposes. Doesn’t seem rational that this FO would expend assets on him so long as this team is coached by Thibs.
-I am still holding out hope that Brogdan is the guy, but would be happy with either him or Tyus Jones. No DJM unless he’s on a discount. No Marcus Smart unless he comes with an asset (not that there are any rumors about him, just sayin’…he’d actually be pretty good for what we need.)

It’s really hard as fans to know what the team is supposed to be doing right now. So much of it hinges on the actual health of Julius, OG, and to a lesser extent Grimes and Mitch. If they are seriously hurt, there’s not much the Knicks can do this year.

I would love it if we could get at least a one-game sample size of how the team looks with OG but without Randle. Not that OG is remotely the offensive force that Randle is, but we saw how effective his cutting, and his shooting from the corners, was in opening up the offense as a whole in those first few games.

They still need to make a move, and while I’d like it to be Brogdon, I have a not-great feeling that it’s going to be one of the Utah guys. Somewhat relieved if we’re actually not prioritizing Brown, who doesn’t solve the scoring problem.

In hindsight, should we have tried to get Rozier? I haven’t even paid attention to how he’s played in Miami.

That would make me so disappointed. I suppose Sexton fits their needs quite well, but I’m sure he’d be very expensive. Clarkson would be just bad.

It’s not sexy, but Burks might be the deadline move. Burks and Thibs already know each other, and it should only cost us a 2nd or two at most.

    – he can shoot (around .400 from three for the last 3 seasons)

    – he can adequately play 1-3 in a pinch

    – he has a good handle, can pass, and has good size (6’5”)

    – and maybe most importantly, he won’t complain about minutes (like Brogdon etc.)

We shouldn’t sell the farm rn with so many injuries and a chance to make noise in the playoffs. I think the FO likes this team—which really runs 10 deep—as it is. If our guys fully heal, Burks would be more of a cheerleader or injury insurance in the playoffs, and if they don’t, he can play solid minutes at various positions and give them scoring.

So much of it hinges on the actual health of Julius, OG, and to a lesser extent Grimes and Mitch.

Yeah, I feel the same way. OTOH the one thing we do know is that IQ’s playmaking is not returning and while I have been pleasantly surprised at Deuce, he is not the S/T answer. Also remember the comment someone made that trading Fournier is a mild priority.

Getting Burks without moving Fournier is tough, and I don’t think the FO would want to move Fournier for an expiring, because it complicates future plans.

Sans Fournier, it would have to be something like Grimes and Archie to Detroit, Evil Donte to a third team in an officially separate transaction (Washington would work), and Burks and some kind of heavily protected second to the Knicks.

I’d really hate to burn Grimes on such a deal, even if I agree that Burks could help the team right now. Sims would also work in place of Grimes, but we’d have to send Detroit enough draft compensation to make them want to do it. Sounds like Troy Weaver is wildly overvaluing Burks and Bojan.

Today is the 25th anniversary of Mike Breen and Walt “Clyde” Frazier working together. We are truly blessed as a fanbase to have them to listen to during games. This year in particular, you can tell they are having fun.

I don’t want to imagine a world without them but I wonder who their replacements would eventually be. Out of the current cast, Kenny Albert, Monica McNutt, and even Alan Hahn I could see. Anybody but Wally. Wally is like Pete Campbell from Mad Men. And let me tell you that’s not a good thing…

I am surprised OG’s injury history is so bad. It was never really brought up when discussing him before, but he’s missed 30% of his team’s games since 2020.

    Just one random thought:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a backcourt situation as bad as the Wizards. I know Charlotte and Chicago have it bad, but at least that’s because of health. The Wizards are healthy and have Jordan Poole and Johnny Davis. Sheesh! LOL. Meanwhile they have useful backcourt pieces on the roster, but Poole gets first and second dibs. Are we sure Zeke’s not running the show there?

In light of OG’s spotty history and the uncertainty surrounding him, Randle, and Mitch, I think it would be very foolish to burn Grimes on someone like Burks. Either get a guy who can help for multiple years or just sit it out.

I’m confused as to why the need to add a player…Come playoff times we’re legit 10 deep (only plays 8-9 anyway) with one legit bully all-star and one MVP caliber player, four 3&D snipers in (Deuce, OG, Grimes and DDV), special all around swiss army knife in Josh Hart and the best center combo in Mitch and iHart.

In playoffs, JB and randle will play 40- 42 minutes each so I’m comfortbale with Deuce and Achiuwa coming in for 6-8 minut. This regualar season hardship due to injuries is actually making tyhe roster stronger come playoffs.

I’m in agreement with Hubert in principle unless the FO has greater clarity about Ju, OG, and Mitch. But how about getting a discounted/inexpensive initiator who is better than Deuce in that capacity. Monte Morris?

n light of OG’s spotty history and the uncertainty surrounding him, Randle, and Mitch, I think it would be very foolish to burn Grimes on someone like Burks. Either get a guy who can help for multiple years or just sit it out.

Facts!!! – Sit tight. Only temp move that could makes sense is Brogdon because he then becomes a better expiring this summer. But only for Fournier and one heavily protected 1st. Leon must keep Grimes. Going to need him to guard Donovan Mitchell again come May and make clutch free throws to close out the series.

But how about getting a discounted/inexpensive initiator who is better than Deuce in that capacity. Monte Morris?

Which of these two players is having a better offensive season?

I don’t think there’s a chance in hell we trade Grimes for Avon Barksdale, but we can get him without doing so somewhat easily.

    NYK gets: Burks
DET gets: Archie, draft compensation from NYK
    MEM gets: Evil Donte

I used Memphis as the third team because they have a TPE and might not require any compensation to take on Evil Donte–they need warm bodies–but any team willing and able to take him on works.

Reuniting with Alon Blumenstein has felt almost inevitable to me for a while regardless of what else we do. There’s the Thibs familiarity, the clear need for an extra shot creator even if Burks has seen better days in that regard, and the presumably low cost.

I’m confused as to why the need to add a player

Even when we were fully healthy and running roughshod through the league, the post-trade non-Brunson lineups were absolutely brutal offensively. Like, could easily lose you a playoff game in 5-8 minutes level bad.

I don’t think we have to reinvent the wheel if we eventually project to have all our guys, but I do think we need to do something about the bench regardless even if it’s as minor as trading for Burks.

    howdy pepper 🙂

i hope all is well for you…been thinking about you and the family moving to arizona this time of year…a really good time of year weather wise…cool and moist…

it’s raining like crazy out here today…okay, no real comparison of california rain to “real” rain back east (sheets and buckets of it)…

thinking about climate change the last couple of days…one of the things that come up from the past is how dry spots turn wet and wet spots turn dry…basically messing up human food supplies and whatever industries are happening at the time in those locations…

i guess my point is pepper – i am feeling mighty chipper and hopeful today regarding climate change – we may both see an upgrade to our climates (a lot more moisture) here over the next couple of decades…

and we should both be around for that, well that and a couple of nba championships courtesy of our little general 🙂

    Mrs Hartenstein Update:

Randle will be back on the court in 2-3 weeks. Wouldn’t be surprised if he plays right after the All Star.

Even when we were fully healthy and running roughshod through the league, the post-trade non-Brunson lineups were absolutely brutal offensively. Like, could easily lose you a playoff game in 5-8 minutes level bad.

    Deuce,
    Grimes,
    DDV
    Randle
    iHart

I just dont see how above line up for 6-8 minutes per game is so brutal offensively and therefore a net negative. Even substituting Randle with OG…I think they will be able to hold their own against Boston and Millwakee reserves.

    NYK gets: Burks
DET gets: Archie, draft compensation from NYK
    MEM gets: Evil Donte

That’s clever. Ok, fine, I wouldn’t hate that.

Like, could easily lose you a playoff game in 5-8 minutes level bad.

Yeah, if everyone is healthy, we will definitely rue not making a trade.

It’s a fine line. But that’s why I think you have to stick with guys like Brogdon or Brown who will help you for multiple years.

    Deuce,
    Grimes,
    DDV
    Randle
    iHart

I just dont see how above line up for 6-8 minutes per game is so brutal offensively and therefore a net negative. Even substituting Randle with OG…I think they will be able to hold their own against Boston and Millwakee reserves.

Donte doesn’t really play with that unit, he and Grimes almost never share the court.

Maybe 2nd unit wouldn’t be so bad if we have them more time, but the results are what they are and the deadline won’t give us the time we need to find out.

I just dont see how above line up for 6-8 minutes per game is so brutal offensively and therefore a net negative. Even substituting Randle with OG…I think they will be able to hold their own against Boston and Millwakee reserves.

I don’t think we’ve ever actually used that lineup specifically because for better or worse Thibs avoids DDV/Grimes like the plague. But post-trade, our offensive rating with Deuce on, Brunson off is 107, good for the 13th percentile.

The sample is small of course, but I don’t think anything is going to click offensively for those units. They just don’t have a guard/wing who can create for himself and/or others. It’s a very clear need IMO, and since there are a number of options available to address it I see no reason we shouldn’t.

Buonasera Max…i hope all is well for you today…

just thinking about sore shoulder stuff, and remembered yours…

think i’ve figured out what the deal was – looks like a torn rotator cuff…thought it was an old injury from youth, but – doesn’t look that way…

turns out – if you catch the issue early enough, therapy can fix/repair/mitigate the injury…

my right one is starting to go out, but, my left arm is already getting kind of useless now…

did an x-ray, next will see someone for therapy/testing, after that an mri, then on to whatever procedure helps to fix that situation…i need to read up on that next…

anyways, i hope you are well, and on the off chance that perhaps it is also your rotator cuff (turns out it’s a really common injury for older folks) – if you catch it early enough, you may be able to fix it without needing to be cut on…

mmmmmm, not sure why max – but you always got me thinking food 🙂

    what’s for dinner fratello?

cgreene on the inside…was curious what isaiah’s mom looked like (hide your mom’s, i’m horny 😛 )…

it looks like she herself was an athlete, initially i though she was german…she’s from oregon though…

    i don’t know, i think i’m missing something from the story…

super interesting how her and isaiah’s dad purposefully prepared isaiah to play pro ball…

anyways, that is soooooooo cool to hear julius may be back by the end of february…

    Mrs Hartenstein Update:

Great news. What does she say about Mitch?

    HART BOMB!

Ask about OG’s elbow please! I’m worried that the catch for the OG era will be that he’s just never healthy for long.

Hey y’all, just dropping in to share a bit of Dolan bad news that might pluck at your heartstrings and cheer you up on a Monday:

‘Quick question: How is the Sphere planning to turn a profit? In November, it was reported that the venue was operating at a nearly $100 million loss after opening last September. The only musical act that has performed there is U2, and that didn’t change tonight as the band streamed a performance from what I can only assume is now their home to the Grammys telecast. The sleek (but motion sickness-inducing) performance looked pretty indistinguishable from a tech company advertisement.

The only other artists currently scheduled to perform at the venue are Phish and Dead & Company, with the Darren Aronofsky film Postcard From Earth (shot specifically for the venue) screening intermittently in between. Maybe jam bands and the like can keep the $2 billion structure afloat for a while, but if that well runs dry, it doesn’t seem like a place artists would stop at on their tours (since they’d likely have to design a new show utilizing the Sphere’s capabilities). At a capacity of 18,000 to 20,000, it’s also too small for A-listers who are known for elaborate shows, like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. And after tonight, it doesn’t seem likely that Sphere CEO James Dolan attracted any new takers. Unless he starts charging U2 rent, no amount of LED screens is making the Sphere’s future look bright.

    Jake Fischer:

The Knicks have shown legitimate interest in Washington, sources said, as they examine their options. The Knicks appear more interested in Toronto guard Bruce Brown Jr., for whom the Raptors are seeking some return in the range of a first-round pick, compared to Atlanta’s steeper asking price of two picks and then some for Murray. It’s become clear the Knicks aren’t willing to part with Quentin Grimes unless New York is trading the young swingman for a perceived upgrade, sources said, as opposed to swapping him for a different back-of-the-rotation piece.

Grimes continues to have fans in Atlanta and Utah, sources said. The Jazz roster several players, most notably Kelly Olynyk and Jordan Clarkson, whom the Knicks still have on their radar, according to league sources.

The Knicks have shown legitimate interest in Washington

PJ Washington, for anyone else who was wondering.

The Athletic thinks he’s worth a late 1st.

Stretch 4 with multiple years left and a salary close to Fournier’s. Makes some sense.

For the love of God, please no Jordan Clarkson. I can’t stand watching that guy play basketball, and in a Knicks uniform it would be doubly distasteful

PJ Washington for a late 1st tho? I’m on board with that

Actually, never mind on PJ. I thought he was some kind of deadeye shooter, but his numbers say otherwise. Pass.

It’s def the mom. I certainly would not mind if his wife came in however. His mom is an absolutely lovely person. She’s from Oregon. The dad is German and also an absolutely enormous physical specimen. He’s been in and I see him walking the dog.
I asked about OG. She had nothing definitive except to say they are not going to sacrifice his health for the playoffs with a short term fix like a cortisone shot. Those shots have diminished returns over time of course.
I had asked about Mitch last time and she was on a similar page where his availability for the playoffs is certainly a possibility.

Do I hear Knickerblogger t shirts??

Relieved to hear on the line they’re holding with Grimes. I’m resigned to losing him this week or this summer, but I want it to be for something good.

As for PJ Washington, that would run somewhat counter to Mama Hartenstein’s optimism, in that he feels more like a move you make if you’re not expecting Randle back for a while, if at all, no? Though he would also make it easier to move Precious and/or Sims in other deals.

I’m a no on PJ. Seems like he’s just a slightly shorter, slightly better-shooting version of Precious. Then we’d just have two.

A gentle reminder on Julius — if/when he comes back, it’s worth remembering that there’s no reason to expect anything other than that he sucks for the first few (6?) games. Because that’s just what Julius, and most NBA players, do after coming back from an injury and time off.

Probably still better than Precious (who’s better than I expected despite his warts, I take the L on that one), but for critical fans like on this site, patience with Mr. Randle will be a virtue.

    ah, it’s the pops that’s german…that helps explain things…

i like the KB t-shirt thing…it would have to be cool looking of course, but I’m digging the idea…

wow, yeah the OG health issue stuff is definitely something to keep in mind…

not sure what the final annual average salary for OG will be, but if you have to pay someone to back him up with the notion that you he may be missing for 20 games or so each year…hmmmmmmm…

We’ve talked about needing a backup 4 anyway and PJ’s shooting makes him a viable offensive option next to Hart. He can add some creation to the 2nd unit and supposedly is a smart player.

He’s definitely a Thibs PF — big bruiser with a high skill-level. Bad rebounder though.

“Mrs Hartenstein seems to have unusually high levels of clearance for a mom.”

I’m not really all that surprised that she knows. However, I am *very* surprised that it is deemed to be OK that she talk to fans and others about what she knows.

I’m a no on PJ. Seems like he’s just a slightly shorter, slightly better-shooting version of Precious. Then we’d just have two.

PJ is a much, much better shooter than Achiuwa. He makes nearly as many 3s per 36 as Precious takes.

    PJ: 36% career on 5.9 att/36
    Achiuwa: 30% on 2.7 att/36

To put that in perspective, the difference in volume is about the same as Brunson (6.6att/36) and Hart (3.5att/36) this year.

Thibs will work his big man whisperer magic on PJ Washington and have him pulling down 8 offensive boards a game

    Ciao Geo!

Thank you for asking my friend,
it turns out my shoulder problems are due to a double tendinopathy (near the neck and closer to the elbow) and the first signs of arthrosis, so my career as a deadly outside shooter is over 😉 .

I’m doing therapies (shock waves) and exercises and it’s slowly improving.

As for food, monday’s almost always “leftover day”, all that remains from the weekend becomes “the dish of the day”, this time the highlight were cabbage rolls stuffed with sausage and parmesan plus spiced little meatballs in creamy lemon sauce… let’s say I did justice to everything 😀

PJ Washington is worth a check-in and not much more. If they’re dead set on trading him and the market collapses, sure, we could use the PF depth. It sounds like we’re mostly just doing due diligence though.

Reading the tea leaves, my guess is that after the buzzer sounds Burks and Brown will be Knicks at the cost of one of the protected firsts, some seconds, and our salary filler guys.

Making it a three team trade actually might be easiest, since the Pistons would probably take on Evil Donte to get draft compensation for Burks:

    NYK gets: Brown, Burks
DET gets: Evil Donte, NYK second round draft compensation
TOR gets: Fournier, Archie, Sims, NYK protected first

hey geo…moving along here in PHX…its stressful…not as much rain in the Bay but my house is on the side of a mountain…so the ground soil can move around and get sloppy and we were supposed to go live tomorrow on MLS and have pictures taken, etc…so not sure what’s up…my realtor is radio silent…rained down here in PHX yesterday…some serious dust storms…i forgot how intense they are….was blowing my wife’s Forrester all over the freeway…still looking for a place down here…inventory is weak…not seeing many great houses…

Not sure how confident I am on this dust bowl getting wet anytime soon…but…who knows…I think if they redo the couple of hundred years old Colorado River water rights agreement..and take some from Cali and give it to us…that might help…

hope you’re staying dry…was talking to someone in our LA office and he said its real messy…

@Max…what’s the wine pairing with that assortment?

It’s def the mom. I certainly would not mind if his wife came in however. His mom is an absolutely lovely person. She’s from Oregon.
Ps: as previously mentioned I run a printing business. We do everything from business cards to signs to branded apparel

Thanks, cgreene. Couldn’t discern if you are based in Oregon, but Jowles is your man if so:—need’s brochures, exposure materials and cards for his very likely teaching pickleball beginners venture.

I don’t really get trading for PJ but I guess he might be better on a real team and some more depth wouldn’t be the end of the world

Thanks cgreene for the I-Hart insider update!

I’m so annoyed by the way the media portrayed saturday’s game, it’s like we weren’t missing 3 starters plus Grimes, at full strenght we would’ve won by 15 but it’s all about “the Lakers raised their defense”, I’m disgusted.

Injuries are putting us in a difficult spot about the trade deadline, I have faith in the FO to do the right things given they know better about our guys’ recovery times…

Tyus Jones or Brogdon are still my favorite grabs (I’m expecting DJM to the Lakers).
PJ Washington has some interesting skills and he’s signed for another two years on a descending contract, I don’t know what he would cost…

@pepper I’m in my pinot noir period, so yesterday I went with it, while today following my “no wine in weekdays” rule, I had some unfilterd beer.

I’ve mostly been thinking the WAS 1st that looks 99% like two high 2nds for PJ, not an actual 1st. That seems like a fair price to me.

The other day Alan made good points on how Tyus Jones might not fit with our future roster building aspirations:

Jones would fit us like a glove except in one way: he’s expiring, and the only way we could trade for him without giving up a core piece is by using Fournier’s contract. Which in turn would make it much harder to do a big trade in the offseason, since we’d no longer have a good mid-sized salary like that to include. (Jeremy Cohen’s continuous soup theory.) Hart and Deuce can’t be traded due to their recent extensions. (Nor would we likely want to trade either right now.) Precious and Evil Donte can’t be traded in combination with any other player. Grimes’ salary is tiny. We’re not trading iHart.

So you really only make a Fournier for Jones trade if you have decided that this is essentially our team(*), not only for this season, but for the next few. (Or else that some combo of Randle, Mitch, or Hart would now be part of salary matching in a big trade.)

(*) Give or take draft picks, a mid-level signing, etc.

Regarding OG’s injury history, mixed in there is an emergency appendicitis surgery and one was when he cut his finger doing household chores. So it’s not quite as bad as it looks at first glance.

Maybe you ask WAS for Shamet or Gafford in a Tyus trade. It lets you keep $10-$12M on the books… no idea how to value salary filler in additional picks that WAS would certainly want. Maybe a 3rd team gets roped in that wants to dump salary.

Hubert will be happy to know that we can always use Hart as salary in an offseason trade instead of Fournier. Of course, if you keep both, then maybe you can save Randle from being included (maybe Randle being included is a reason to get PJ???)

Regarding OG’s injury history, mixed in there is an emergency appendicitis surgery

He’s 0.11% less likely to get injured than all those walking liabilities who still have an appendix.

Yeah, but OG played for Nick Nurse, who was notorious for playing his guys big minutes. No worries about that here….

Seriously, the blogger from Toronto that GMAC from KFS interviewed said that the injury concerns are overblown and most were of the freaky variety. I guess the fact that he’s missing games with an injury as we speak is disquieting, but probably best to give him the benefit of the doubt before considering it in future moves.

I’m not holding my breath for a trade. My suspicion is the Knicks made some offers but the receiving teams didn’t like the proposed deals. Maybe a receiving team
will change their mind at the deadline but I doubt it. The players who are rumored to be available don’t seem worth trading Grime’s for, but without him if you are just giving Fournier you basically are providing salary relief and hoping to get a useful player. Then If the receiving team is just getting picks and salary relief for a useful player it has to be a team that is clearly rebuilding and wants to hire free agents too or needs apron or tax relief. Teams that need apron or tax relief are probably mostly trying to compete and will want to hold on to their useful players. It’s not imposible for us to make a deal, but the number of possible partners is probably limited.

    Fun facts:

Jalen Brunson is now at 5 BPM for the season, up from 3.9 the previous.

This is equal to the best mark of Melo’s career (2014).

The only Knicks to ever post better BPM in a season are Bernard King in ’85 (5.1) and Ewing twice, (5.5 in ’90 and 5.2 in ’94).

The stat was not recorded during Clyde’s best seasons.

    Two observations:
    1. How sad is it that we’ve never had a player over 5.5 BPM? There have been 250 player seasons over 6.5 BPM!

    2. This guy is already the best Knick guard of the last 50 years and may end up rivaling Ewing as our franchise GOAT. In career BPM is is already #1 over Bernard King!

Also, DDV is 10th at 4.3 (lol!)

I don’t get PJ…What need or problem does he solve?

As a back up 4, he’s a better shooter than Achiuwa but lacks size to rebound and defend. It’s likely a net negative. As a back up 3, he’s not getting any minutes from Josh Hart. I just don’t see it.

Wow…facts…that’s a shame…wonder how many individual players comprised of that 250 number.

Hey Noble, how many 4 BPM guys do we need to be a contender? 😉

Also, DDV is 10th at 4.3 (lol!)

Let’s put that in some perspective because these AIOs are notoriously hard to game from the SG position.

Klay Thompson, for instance, only had one year like this. He registered a 4.3 bpm in the Warriors first title season. His career BPM is 0.5.

Allan Houston’s best season was a 1.7; he had a 0.1 BPM for his career.

Donte’s comps this year are Reggie Miller in the 90s and Ray Allen on the Supersonics.

    Let that sink in!

This is why people underestimate us. By the numbers, we have one of the best backcourts of the last 30 years. But the narrative has not caught up to the numbers. Not even here, where way too many people fail to give Donte his proper due.

Grimes and OG are already listed as out for tomorrow. Shouldn’t matter vs Memphis but would be nice for OG to return vs Dallas. Looks like Grimes will be out the entire week according to beat writer Steve Popper.

This won’t be popular, but maybe it would help clear up our looming center problem:

    TO CHI: M. Robinson
TO NYK: A. Caruso, A. Drummond

Of course, you’d have to make sure you have Hartenstein on board long term. Then you either need to re-sign Drummond or find his replacement.

Wow…facts…that’s a shame…wonder how many individual players comprised of that 250 number.

That’s 62 players, mostly names you would expect but a few surprising one-hit wonders.

I swear that I’m not trying to be controversial when I say this, but I bet Cam Whitmore would still be available right about now…….before he really takes off.

I don’t get PJ…What need or problem does he solve?

You can’t have Achiuwa play the backup 4 & 5 simultaneously. We should compare him to Sims who played 15min last night and is awful at damn near everything.

I don’t consider Precious a 4 anyway. We went 7min without scoring last game and he was a big reason why. Forcing Brunson to beat double and triple teams every night just isn’t a viable long-term strategy.

Even if you consider PJ for Achiuwa a wash, we don’t really need Achiuwa’s defense or rebounding on the 2nd unit. We need offense. PJ is a better fit with that unit and offers a bit of desperately needed creation.

He’s young enough that he could develop more… he might be better if you just get him out of Charlotte.

But more than anything, he rolls Fournier’s salary over and might actually be considered an on court asset in a star trade.

Despite all the above, yeah he’s just not been that great.

Great point Hubert, it is legitimately hard for SGs to excel by that metric unless they are absolute superstars. DDV ranks 3rd in the league currently behind Donovan Mitchell and Kyrie (really a PG) — he has now pulled ahead of Derrick White.

Current starting backcourts with higher combined BPM than our ‘Nova boys’ 9.3:
    Luka + Kyrie 14.7

    End of list

Luka/Kyrie’s marks would probably go down some if they shared the court more often, but one of them seems to always be hurt.

Also worth noting that SGA eclipses our boys alone with his 10.4 because he’s pretty much Michael Jordan, but Lu Dort’s 1.7 pulls down the duo.

Having arguably the best backcourt in the league does a lot to explain how we’ve been able to gut our some wins despite the decimation of our front line.

Popular with me! I’d prefer Caruso to any of the names that have been bandied about. He’s the OG of SGs. Could go small with JB/DDV/Caruso/OG/iHart and save Hart for the bench, where he does his best work.

donte being the other half of that combo definitely has surprised the heck out of me…

initially i saw him as like our number 8 guy, coming off the bench…him and jalen work so well together though, and, well he ain’t missing much and he plays really good defense…

still, feels a lot like found money…

that’s worst strat, he’s simply injury prone and somewhat physically fragile…

If he’s injury prone I don’t think appendicitis and cutting yourself qualify as anything to worry about. Both could happen to Hercules.

More worrying are things like elbow inflammation. The you start worrying about why this happened, will it be chronic, will it ever require surgery?

I’m starting to think that OG (and Julius) might be hurt more than they are letting us know? With the trade deadline approaching, they might want to keep their bargaining position less compromised, but I am officially concerned.

If DDV is suddenly as elite as BPM suggests why has the team been better when he has been off the court? His on/off is -4.5. That appears to be mostly due to poorer defense when he’s on the court. There may be some substitution and lineup issues (he played with RJ a lot for example) that account for it, but he has played with both the bench and starters. So it’s not obvious. My guess is that BPM is overrating him and and on/off is underrating him, but who knows where reality is.

if you have an extra chair – please count me in for leftovers’ night 🙂

    LOL Geo, you’re welcome! 🙂

We’ve gone through far too many lineup iterations for this to have any sort of meaning. How much time, for instance, has been on without Brunson and off with Brunson on? I’d guess a lot.

That’s his highest 2 man minute combination. They are + overall together, but the team is + overall.

The game with Memphis’ skeleton crew is winnable even without them and I understand the team being cautious but I’m concerned both for OG’s elbow and Grimes’ knee…

With Julius, watching the injury I thought he was going to be out for the season, so everything less than that is a plus and the same applies to Mitch.

Edit: maybe against the Grizzlies we could give some burn to the Charlie Browns and the Toppins on our bench… Nah, I don’t think Thibs will do it 🙂

Julius’ wife posted a photo of them out shopping and Julius isn’t even wearing a sling

Source on this Strat? I can’t seem to corroborate it.

FWIW BPM is probably overrating him. In EPM he is a more modest 1.6, good for 8th among SGs. Still pretty great given his contract and expectations though.

The cavs had so many games against bad teams in Jan I figured they had a hard patch coming up but no. Rest of the month:

    at WAS
    at BK
    at TOR
    PHI
    CHI
    ORL

    DAL

    “Raptors are getting demolished”

Not surprising after a devastating 2OT loss last night. RJ being rested for load management didn’t help.

    “Toronto broke IQ.”

There’s a big difference between being a starting PG and a 24mpg sixth man-type combo guard. He will eventually adjust and be better, but I wonder how much better. Can he be the starting PG on a contender? To me, that’s a very open question, and if the answer is no, how much should a team pay him?

I am very curious as to how much he signs for this offseason. I truly wonder whether he’d be better off taking the QO and waiting until he figures it out.

Quick will get his 25 mill a year ..even if the Raps balk some team like Detroit will come in with a big offer and force the Raps to match

“Quick will get his 25 mill a year ..even if the Raps balk some team like Detroit will come in with a big offer and force the Raps to match”

    It won’t be Detroit…

Never know with Detroit and Troy Weaver ..they have money to spend and will want to try and get somebody. I read today they’re after Tobias Harris..but I don’t think he would go there

I just think DET is committed to Cade and Ivey, so it would not be a preferable location to IQ. But I guess it’s possible.

As fans we always look at a players performance and attribute the good things and bad things to him. And this is true in some ways. But sometimes the coach is finding ways to let players do more of the things they are good at and less of the things they aren’t good at. Also, some times the circumstances around them affect what they can do. To the extent that RJs and IQs performance is different in Toronto than it was here, it’s probably mostly factors like that, not that Quickley is depressed or RJ is ecstatic. And, if I recall correctly, New Orleans is a big team and probably a bad matchup for them. Toronto was out rebounded 51 to 38 and had 18 turnovers instead of 7 for New Orleans. IQ had a good assist to turnover ratio, had only two turnovers total, and is not responsible for getting rebounds, so none of that was his fault.
