2023-24 Game Thread: Knicks @ Lakers (Second Straight Game in Los Angeles Opener, which is not a thing)

The Knicks remain in Los Angeles for another game to take on the Los Angeles Lakers, who are a pretty good team, but not nearly as deep as the Los Angeles Clippers, so the Knicks should have a good shot at winning this one (remember how people were giving the Clippers grief about how out of whack they were when they just added James Harden out of nowhere without any practices, and with trying to play Westbrook and Harden both in the starting lineup? That did not last that long).

It’s amazing how well Lebron is playing right now at 39 years old. Kind of crazy, really.

Will this be Taj’s Knick return debut?

Let’s go, Knicks!

Had to return to the board tonight for this one. Happy holidays, everyone!

Wish this game was later in the season so I could’ve gone like last year. Alas.

Haha, Barrett blocked twice already?

Good to see you, CDiggy…

(I’m listening on the radio, which is really weird…)

Sims should take some time off to rest that ankle, rest of the season should be sufficient enough…

Sup Raven!
One of my colleagues is at the game (not one of the trolls) – Laker fan obviously. Sent me a pic.

Lakers PA guy is so mid. Apparently he’s been doing it since the Showtime era.

Was about to make a snide remark after that IQ turnover and foul but he more than made up for it immediately afterwards!

Can’t ask for a better start.

And it might be time to acknowledge that Julius Randle is a pretty damn good basketball player

Quickley’s energy looks good tonight. Maybe our pinhead coach will give him an extra couple of minutes..

Grimes giving us zero…two missed wide-open 3’s and an embarrassing drive to nowhere leading to a transition dunk the other way…

Guys are so hot shooting 3pters against the Knicks nowadays they’re hitting step back 3pters like they’re layups.

Randle is playing hard and shooting well, but I’m “meh” on him playing in the 2nd unit instead of RJ. Randle takes the ball out of Quickley’s hands more and reduces ball movement. One of the things that makes the 2nd unit so tough is that they play faster and move the ball better.

Lakers hitting a ton of bullshit 3pters, Knicks missing a ton of wide fucking open 3pters.

local blackout…following the boxscore and catching snippets on nbatv…

this game seems like a toss up at the moment, could go either way…

just saw ja speaking about coming back…man, he looks a lot older these days, slow down you crazy child…

Edit: wow, 5 free throw attempts for the lakers…4 out of 15 from 3 for the knicks…there’s the game right there…

I don’t think AD is even playing his hardest yet. I’m afraid of what he’s going to do once he decides it’s time to try to win.

“Yeah think I’m gonna probably knock out and skip the 2nd half…”

…a decision I hope you will regret forever…

I’m so glad the T-Wolves beat the Heat. I hate that Heat team…..mostly because they’ve had all sorts of injuries but Spoelstra keeps finding ways to win with them.

It would appear a lot of people (especially me) were wrong about that Gobert/Towns combination. Towns is doing fine on offense despite Gobert being the middle and the defense is #1 in the league. So even if Towns is struggling with some matchups at PF, it’s getting cleaned up.

I-Hart gives us a lot of what Mitch gives us plus some things that Mitch doesn’t. I lean towards much of the problem with the defense recently as the combo of Sims and DDV instead of Mitch and Grimes. Hart and Grimes could tighten things up but we’d have to deal with some low production from Grimes on offense.

I’m still getting that feeling that James and Davis are just coasting at 85% until it’s time to win while we are playing at 100%.

This is indeed problematic- particularly how hot LeBron has been to start this season.

Hey Z—man! I wish I could find a way to watch, but I’m cleaning up the kitchen while my wife puts the lil boy down for the evening. Darn real life responsibilities lol.

Quickley 18 points in less than 17 minutes. It’s about time for Thibs to take him out. 🤡

Breen just said “they need to find a way to get iq more minutes “…no higher authority than that…

Looks like the Lakers are ready to amp up the defense to 100%. We need to make any open looks we get.

I’ve been fighting it for past hour but at this point I’m determined to make it to the end good or bad..

It took very good games by Randle, I-Hart, Bunson and Quickley to get it done. Huge win.

That Jazz game sucked, but beating the Suns and Lakers on the road makes this trip pretty damn successful

Cam Reddish revenge game: 4 pts on 2 for 9 shooting with 5 fouls and getting torched by Brunson down the stretch.

I think anyone would accept going 2-2 in this west coast road trip, so it’s nice… still annoyed at the Utah game but it happens.

“still annoyed at the Utah game but it happens.”

Agreed, but I’d rather lose to them and get the wins vs. PHX and LAL so it’s all good!

I’ve been fighting it for past hour but at this point I’m determined to make

ha, too funny BBA…your unhinged loyalty to the knicks should be credited with the win 😊

Solid Knicks win. There was a moment at the beginning of the 3rd where it might have gotten away from us, but we hung tough and finished strong. Game ball to Hartenstein.

We are going to have to figure out what to do at 3rd string C because we can’t count on I-Hart to give us 39 minutes like that every night. Sims is not the answer, at least not in the starting unit. I like Taj but he’s not in peak shape and how much could he have left at this point.

I’m pretty convinced the Sims/DDV combo is a problem. Grimes may not be the answer starting either, but we need something

It looks like that B2B was too much for them and it’s always tough on the road in Utah. This is a resilient team. Huge win.

That was a very satisfying win!

Boy, so many of the Lakers sure don’t play hard, right?

Brian, according to one Laker fan:

“ Lakers were tired from winning the tournament. How did NY do in that?”

CRY THOSE TASTY SALTY TEARS YOU SPOILED BRATS!!! Hahahhaaa

D’Angelo Russell is the empty calorie poster child…the anti josh hart…his position is loser…

They finally put together a good defensive effort for long stretches of this game. I liked that IQ played 29 minutes and closed the game for us. IHart made everybody forget about Mitch tonight. Great road win!

Of course, it helped that on the other side it was LeBron, AD, Reeves and then… chaos. 😂😂😂

LeBron had 25/11/11, but a -13 for the game. Clearly his numbers were just empty calories.

Lebron only plays at 100% in spurts these days. Of course 85% of Lebron James is still the best player on the court a lot of nights. He amps it up when they need it. The good news was that when he tried to step it up, Brunson and the Knicks answered.

Lebron’s long term on/off captures his “overall” contribution to winning quite well – as long term on/off tends to do, especially if you apply some common sense to the analysis (team quality, starter or bench, specific lineup combos and substitutes, age and development etc..). Since boxscore metrics suck for defense and many other things that contribute to winning are not measured, I’m not sure why anyone would not use it to supplement boxscore. None of these metrics are perfect, but they all have some value.

The Clippers scored 151 points tonight. I know it was against the Pacers, but something is wrong with this league. Playing efficient offense is well understood by everyone now and the 3 point shooting keeps getting better. Some kind of adjustment has to be made. Great defense is fun to watch also. You just don’t want it to turn into the opposite extreme we saw in the 90s.

star of the game was the dude in the front row with that gorgeous dog…man was that animal groomed brilliantly…

i’ve started trying to groom my pooch, it is not easy…it’s not hard, it’s just not easy…

that prized pooch at the game tonight had some next level dog care going on in their life…

i wish someone would take care of me so well…

Wish Thibs starts JB, IQ, Hart, Randle, iHart and plays them all 34-36 minutes for a the next 10 game stretch. Let RJ focus on playing the scoring role against other team reserves.

Stop making sense.

RJ is going to be more efficient with the bench unit against weaker defenses and playing faster. I don’t like Randle with the 2nd unit. He may be more efficient, but he slows it down and dominates the ball.

Quickley adds some playmaking, defense, spacing and scoring punch to starters and can still stagger a bit and play with the bench too. We’ll be a little small, but we have some issues with every lineup.

Conversation on my Twitter feed.

Did RJ just say “pass the f*cking ball” as he went to the bench after that Randle shot? #Knicks

Thats funny coming from Rj..

Oh yeah, I said it right before he did. Julius and Jalen need a dedicated bench guy to hold up a sign that says “pass” when they get ISO happy.

I think he said “ Don’t pass me the fucking ball” which is the best thing he could say

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nice to see we’re getting wins in these games i can’t watch. 😊 And i almost could feel the rollercoaster of emotions via this thread, thank you all. 😉
For a team that should be tanking we keep insisting on fighting and winning, no? 😛
