Well, if Thanasis was really seriously considering coming here, that is big. Not because he’s any kind of great shakes of a player. But because it means that whatever grudge he and his brother once held against the franchise is gone. Which means we can no longer rule out Giannis wanting to come here if he decides that he can’t win another title in Milwaukee.

Wow… talk about tailored content… I haven’t used youtube in maybe a year… I just opened it on my home TV and staring me right in the face is a picture of Joel Embiid with the word LOSER in bold red letters next to his face. The lead-in to the video is “why joel embiid is the biggest choker in the nba.”

It’s 12 mins long. I will not be watching it. But maybe if y’all contributed via Patreon Mike K wouldn’t be compelled to sell our private data like this 😉

I am not watching the tournament, but apparently Josh Hart is doing Josh Hart things this morning?

Nice win. Greece was not terrible.

Josh Hart: 20 min, 11 Rebs (5 ORebs) 5 Asts, 6 pts on 2 shots
Jalen Brunson: 19 min, 13 pts on 5 shots, 3 Rebs, 2 Asts

    Combined 7-7

if the refs are gonna call holds and blocks like that…we’re going to feast at the ft line…alot of hacking and whacking…

slow summer trivia. name a player who had his first ever bpm season over 1 at age 28. over 2 at age 29. over 3 at age 30. and over 4 at age 31. not an international guy who came in late 20s.

still in the first half…it’s in a time out…the Greek coach was just yelling at his team to: just get the fucking ball

that was funny…ha, the new zealand coach was pretty fired up in the first half too…

In the spirit of the exercise I will not look this up before guessing: DeMar DeRozan?

    This is great:

    @NBA_NewYork
Steve Kerr on Josh Hart: “Josh is just a winner. People ask ‘What position does he play?’ He plays winner. I don’t know what position he plays…At one point Spo turned to me & said ‘Some people get 50-50 balls; he gets the 30-70 balls…’”

Full video (including Brunson talking about his BFF) here: https://twitter.com/NBA_NewYork/status/1696183195971031241

“In the spirit of the exercise I will not look this up before guessing: DeMar DeRozan?”

    My first guess too. Nope.

The mother of embattled Spanish football federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales has locked herself in a church and said she is on hunger strike in protest at her son’s treatment, Rubiales’ cousin confirmed on Monday.

the situation happening is spanish futbol just gets crazier…

Brunson looks like he has worked even harder on his body, you can see it in his arms, shoulders…even his face looks tighter.

Trying to think of someone who had to reinvent himself. Tyson Chandler?

Tyson is a great guess but never had a 3+ season. Not Lowry or Jrue either.

    Brook Lopez?

RJ Barrett immediately after we trade him for peanuts?

We need players with lower volume early than we’re suggesting, I think. BPM loves volume too much

I’m looking some up before I post now so I don’t flood the board, Mase fits the pattern pretty well but never quite hit 4

good guesses. following up hint. one of only six players in nba history to score at least 21ppg in each of his first ten seasons.

The 21 points per game in each of his first 10 seasons certainly makes it seem as if it might be Carmelo Anthony.

    Iverson? Stackhouse?

Stackhouse didn’t score that much early in his career. And Iverson was too good early in his career for it to have taken it that long before he reached those BPM numbers.

I got it with a little research/cheating. I presume no one will be mad about an extra hint, but stop reading if you don’t want one: first name is the same as the abbreviated first name of a current Knick.

    He was my next guess.

Alan, – thank you for sharing that tweet. Love the “wins 30-70 balls” reference by Spo. It gave fans a glimse what two of the best minds in basketball think of Josh Hart, when they’re off camera.

I got it entirely due to Noble’s hint. But first I was like… “Ev? Jules? Manny?”

I’m not smart enough to figure it out from that clue, guys.

This might be too obvious but
    .

    .
    .
    .

    .
He was once traded for Chris Webber.

yep, richmond won exactly 1 playoff game for the rest of his career after he was traded by don nelson for billy owens (if you exclude his end of career benchwarming for the lakers).

I remember thinking Richmond was the guy we should have tried to acquire in summer of 93 instead of Rolando Blackman. I talked to Chris Herring about it while I was moderating some event about his book, and I vaguely recall him saying that it was discussed. But no idea how far it got.

Man, that Blackman trade was the real pivot point of the Riley era, even more than trading for Charles Smith. If they had gotten a genuine upgrade at the wing over Gerald Wilkins, we could have had a much better shot at the title. Instead, we wound up with a team where Starks remained our number two option on offense.

I remember being so excited that we got Rolando Blackman and then so perplexed at how bad he was. He just looked old and feeble and never seemed to have a good game. I’m surprised to see that he played almost 1,000 minutes for the team that went to the Finals. I don’t remember him being on that team at all.

we could have really changed the course of history by just signing mario elie instead that offseason. obviously he eventually landed on the rockets championship teams.

I don’t remember the Mitch Richmond trade rumors prior to the 1993 season but I certainly remember the rumors of trading Allan Houston for him during the 1997-98 season.

The guy I remember wanting that summer was Danny Manning. Thought he was the perfect 3 for that team. He got traded to the Hawks the next season.

At least they turned Campbell into Derek Harper the following season. Campbell actually started a bunch of games early in the 92-93 season but by playoff time he was out of the rotation.

Yeah but that’s kinda like saying we turned Cam Reddish into Josh Hart. In both cases, it was the first round pick that did all the work.

The Harper trade was magnificent. He probably would have been the Finals MVP if Hakeem hadn’t gotten his fingers on Starks’ final shot.

All the other moves Checketts and Grunfeld made between 92 and 95, though, make it very clear why Pat Riley got fed up and wanted control.

Doc Rivers was also part of the Charles Smith trade and played pretty good until he injured his knee which necessitated the Harper trade.

I remember the Dominique Wilkins and Ron Harper rumors prior to the 1994-95 season. Nique would’ve been a disaster but Ron Harper could’ve been an interesting pickup at that time.

I just did something very ill advised: I watched an abridged version of the 4Q in Houston, game 6.

I love Patrick Ewing but man, he was dominated so hard. He was 6-20 in that game. And Olajuwon played a large chunk of the 4Q with 5 fouls but Patrick just sat there taking jump shots. It was painful.

Never do what I just did.

Game 3 of that series is the game that really hurts. Knicks should’ve won that game and theoretically closed out the series in 5 games although I’m sure Games 4 and 5 would’ve been tougher to win if the Knicks had won Game 3.

I really wanted Ron Harper at the time and I must say it quite chapped my ass when he played so well for the Bulls in the years that followed

Game 3 was the one where Patrick shot 9-29 and took 0 free throws.

Why did I have to love this guy so much?

And same on Ron Harper, JK. Chapped AF.

I was at both Game 3 and Game 5. My feeling at the time and to this day is that the Knicks were royally fucked by the 2-3-2 format. When teams are evenly matched, as those two teams were, it is a given that the series is going to go 6 or 7 games. Winning 3 in a row to close the series out in 5, even at home, would result in a gentleman’s sweep (my preferrred definition) which implies that one team was definitely much better than the other. So even if we had won game 3, assuming that we would have gone on to win games 4 and 5 is a stretch.

Even so, the bottom line is that we needed to win a game 6 or game 7 on the road and didn’t get it done. The main reason we didn’t get it done is that Patrick Ewing and his .390 TS% was thoroughly outplayed by Hakeem Olajuwan for the entire series. This was especially true in Game 6, when Ewing went 6-20 for 17 points in 45 minutes. Ewing was tremendous in Game 5, but that was pretty much it.

As to Rolando Blackman, the main wondering at the time was whether Riley should have given him minutes in Game 7 when Starks was going 2-18. But Blackman was totally shot on defense…and Riley wasn’t gonna take a chance. Alas…to this day, I still am resigned to feeling that the better team won, and it was because their HOF center was just better than our HOF center and because we didn’t have a home game in game 6. And of course, now they went back to 2-2-1-1-1…lolKnicks!

Just in case that came across as harsh, I will say this in defense of Ewing’s performance: the Knicks played 25 out of a possible 26 playoff games, with all 3 longer series going to 7 games in utterly grueling fashion. Ewing played more minutes than anyone during that run, averaging 41.3 mpg for the playoffs and 44.0 mpg in the finals. He left it all on the floor and just came up a bit short against a formidable foe. I don’t feel even one ounce of resentment towards him, and actually feel bad for him because he deserved better teammates than management gave him.

He did dominate Hakeem on the boards and averaged over 4 blocks per game in the series at least. The 1993 Knicks team is the one that should’ve won it all, they were all healthy during the playoffs. The 1994 team was running on fumes by the end of the playoffs. Starks plus Smith took a couple of rounds to get into playing shape after missing much of the final 2 months of the regular season, Oak was playing with a broken toe in the Finals and Ewing was nowhere near as athletic as he was even the prior year when he was great in the entire playoffs.

Don’t get me started on the 1997 team…..

The best series I’ve ever watched a Knicks team play was the 1997 team sweeping the Hornets in the 1st rd. After going up 3-1 on the Heat I foolishly thought this was finally the year we beat Jordan lol

Ron Harper was my favorite player in the NBA back then (even little Donnie knew in his heart to look outside of the Knick’s universe for happiness). I don’t remember him almost being a Knick. But that’s probably because I was distracted by girls at the time.

I was at Game 4 in ‘94. They won. That was fun.

OJ ruined game 5. Lock him up.

(Rolando won game 4 against the Hornets in the 2nd round in ‘93. That was a huge shot that enabled the Knicks to win that series quickly to prepare for the Bulls (ha).)
