    Has anyone watched it?

I reviewed Playmakers back in the day. IIRC, it was a show where what it was about was more interesting than how it was about it. Yeah, it puts all the NFL’s dirty laundry up there on the screen, but the characters and performances were meh, stories predictable, etc. Again, this is my recollection 20 years later, having not thought of the show much, if at all, since.

First of all, the pick you claim has a median outcome of 25 already conveyed at 27.

…but we did not make that pick, we traded it for the MIL 2025 pick. When evaluating a trade, it’s common to include the return from subsequent trades that use some or all of the return from the inchoate trade.

When you make a trade, being able to make another trade using an asset(s) received is a plausible, foreseeable outcome.

Second, the Detroit Pistons won 17 games. Teams that win 17 games tend to stay at the bottom for a while.

They won 17 games in 2022-2023. We have their pick through 2026-2027, when it is only top-9 protected. They have four seasons to stop sucking.

It is, of course, absolutely possible they never get their shit together and are a bottom nine team four seasons from now. This was not a risk-free trade. But 15 seems like a reasonable median outcome, given that Cade, Duren, Ivey, and Thompson plus whoever else they add between now and then should all be in their primes by then. I think they’d really have to flop outcome wise to still be in the bottom nine in 2026-2027.

As for the Wizards pick, I did a run down of the last 30 years not too long ago and that franchise’s pick falls inside the protection zone more often than not. And they are outright tanking.

This is the one I think is least likely to convey and I account for that in my median outcome. That said, top-8 protection is fairly minimal and it would hardly be shocking if the Wizards aren’t a bottom 8 team three seasons from now.

The scenario you forecast is much more akin to a worst case scenario than a median. I don’t even think this was a home run trade–I’d give it a C+ or something. It’s just not in the same category as 2021, when it was obvious from the jump we incinerated value.

There will absolutely be opportunities to create value with these picks, and I’m not going to judge the trade until we attempt to do so in some way or another.

That’s not waiting for the benefit of hindsight, as it was foreseeable immediately that these picks came with the opportunity to create value.

USA basketball plays Puerto Rico in an exhibition tomorrow. Maybe we’ll have something to talk about?

jose alvardo is going to go off for 30….book it…some dude on that team always plays their best game of their career against the US in that tourney..

Anyone else going to Liberty/Aces today? Should be a barn burner. I recommend watching it in any event. This Liberty team is really something else, and the Aces might be even better (hope not though).

I meant to take my daughter to see the Liberty. Didn’t get around to it and I feel bad.

Deeply disturbing dream last night. Huge blockbuster trade, RJ went out among others (not sure who the others were, and of course the dream did not include who came in), and I woke up thinking, “Who am I going to make fun of now?”

I’m not sure what the Wizards are doing. Tanking late in the season and moving on from Beal and Porzingis indicated to me they were ready to smartly blow it up and rebuild from scratch, but then they brought back Kuzma (who is arguably the worst of the three), added Poole and Tyus Jones in trades and kept Gallinari. I was expecting them to try to extract some value from their trades, but right now it looks to me like they are not going to totally reset.

JJ Reddick’s positive comments about Grimes make a lot more sense now that it has be reveled that Grimes reached out to him, spent some time with him and his family, and worked on his game with him. It sounds like Grimes is ready to take another step forward.

Looking at what happened after a trade occurs is almost always flawed thinking about trade values.

You can argue a trade was “fair”, “good’ or “poor” value if you spell out the exact reasons why (like specific players and draft prospects will do xyx). If those things occur, that “may” indicate you had a better understanding of the values than management. But subsequent unpredicted developments have virtually nothing to do with the values at the time of the deal or whether it made sense. It’s a gigantic waste of time and energy to get worked up over things that happened later that have nothing to do with the intrinsic value at the time.

Many days late on this, but I was listening to “Girlfriend Is Better” by the Talking Heads on the way home, and it boasts a face-melting synth solo, maybe two.

It’s strange how hereditary the NBA is. Cool sunkmthiugh.

    1) I don’t think that is a 10 foot basket.

    2) I googled “Jason Richardson son” and only Steve Nash’s son came up. Hmm…

    3) sunkmthiugh.

What the hell is “sunkmthiugh”? Two of you have used it now, and an Internet search doesn’t yield anything of use……. Actually, it doesn’t turn up anything at all.
