It was equal parts Bad Julius, Good Julius, and the Three Stooges.

Just an incredible “Yes! es! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO….. YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!” conclusion from our guy. Be amazing if this is actually the turning point from all the games we’ve seen from him in past seasons — or even earlier in this one — where the last thought was “NOOOOO!!!!” and “JULIUS WHYYYYY?!?!?!?”

My god are the vibes immaculate. Here’s a piece of Fred Katz’s gamer, on the aftermath of Julius inadvertently knocking Thibs to the ground while celebrating that miracle shot:

“He’s a little mad at me right now,” Randle said of Thibodeau. “I need to talk to him. But hopefully, he has a good night.”

Moments after Randle said that, Thibodeau walked into the locker room. The 28-year-old raced to him and wrapped his long arms around his coach, laughing and repeating, “I’m sorry!”

    https://theathletic.com/4274812/2023/03/04/knicks-win-miami/

We were 11-17 from the line. Jimmy Butler was 18-20.

I would have been incandescent with rage if we had lost.

Just heard about the Celtics game. They are going to be pissed when they play us.

Hoping Brunson woke up with his ankle feeling okay. It’s amazing how durable he’s been with the pounding he takes at his size. He’s built like a fire hydrant, but still.

Normally you would expect the Celtics to stomp all over us tomorrow after losing to us at MSG and last night’s Nets fiasco. And it would be totally understandable

But this Knicks team, man, they just keep surprising us….

Hoping Brunson woke up with his ankle feeling okay. It’s amazing how durable he’s been with the pounding he takes at his size.

Anyone ever win MVP after not being selected for the All Star game? Haha.

I would have been incandescent with rage if we had lost.

Ironic since that’s how we all would have felt about your halftime post.

    Never do that again, Owen!!

I don’t believe in jinxes but you made that second so full of dread for me. Every time a Knick went down…

Btw we were talking about Butler v Kawhi yesterday, and I’ve delivered a final verdict: neither.

Go get Bridges. Pay the Nets tax if you have to. He’s perfect for this team. (And don’t worry, I mean Mikal this time 😉 )

His age lines up perfectly. We’d have a long multi-year run with the same core. We add to the Villanova group. And he doesn’t upset the apple cart the way bringing in an alpha dog would.

Mikal Bridges is really showing so far that he is indeed capable of carrying a higher usage while still being efficient. It’s a small sample size obviously, but I think it will be enough for the Nets to make him the center piece of their rebuild, so I don’t think he’ll be available at all in the offseason unfortunately.

You may be right, Bruno. But I’d like to test them with RJ, Obi, and 3 unprotected firsts for Mikal. Maybe even four.

I could be delirious (I am drinking a cappuccino), but I think we’re moving from “one player away, but he needs to be a tent pole superstar” to “one player away who fits perfectly.”

Empty the arsenal. This is the time, and he is the player.

Hubert, when you understand the world better you will understand that without my post the Knicks would have lost. There are levels to the jinx game you haven’t even thought about. You will get there, keep plugging.

Bridges is proving to be a perfect case of a guy who can easily score a lot more if given the opportunity. Will be interesting to see how the perception of him evolves and also whether he can sustain his defensive reputation.

Through eight games he has increased his usage 50% and his ts% is up 9 points. Not sure I see that as sustainable but it’s pretty wild nonetheless. Looks like Booker.

Doubling Brunson on the perimeter and taking the ball off his hands was pretty effective for the Heat yesterday. No stats for this, just eye test. It’s kind of scary. What do you do if teams start throwing doubles at him regularly when the shot clock hits around 10?

The only answer the Knicks have is to hope Randle can continue to hit difficult, sometimes rushed shots. I guess it is what it is.

Bridges might be playing so well the Nets just refuse to trade him to anyone.

What a win-I went from being furious at Julius for not passing and fucking up his dribble to total elation in like 2 seconds

I think we all noticed that, darules. Our end-of-game offense was just Jalen & Julius taking turns at hero ball. Is was just too happy to care.

Worrisome, for sure. It will definitely bite us in the future.

The athletic article has a video that tells the story about the end of the game that I wanted to know. Thanks for the pointer Alan.

What a win-I went from being furious at Julius for not passing and fucking up his dribble to total elation in like 2 seconds

Yeah, last year Julius’s final shot (in or out) would have launched thousands of negative posts. This year, I’m so happy I’m confused 😉

****THIS COMMENT IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE BECAUSE THE AUTHOR HAS EXITED THE NEAREST WINDOW IN FULL KNICKS GEAR WITH A TOM THIBODEAU/JVG COMBOVER, AND A BANANA MAC PRE ROLL IN HIS MOUTH****

Nice win, obviously. Little bit of bumbling and stumbling, but still.

Twenty-five on 17 shots in 33 minutes for Cam Reddish. Two blocks. TS% of .624 on over 20 usage since the trade.

    (1)

The only answer the Knicks have is to hope Randle can continue to hit difficult, sometimes rushed shots. I guess it is what it is.

I hope IQ can also help with this.

Well E you just ruined my morning. Cam Reddish had a good game, now I can’t enjoy this winning streak and I’m really pissed at Rose for giving him up to get that bum Josh Hart.

Definite concern over late game offense. Playoff games are going to be close and the defense will be ratcheted up.

Thibs said something in the post game that I caught about this. He said that the Knicks defense was the cause for poor offense. Because they could not get stops they had no possessions where the Heat D wasn’t totally set and they couldn’t get rhythm and exploit mismatches and move faster. Thought that was interesting view fwiw.

POR has lost 5 of their last 6 with Cam Reddish as a starter, all blowouts. They did beat HOU though when his sidekick had a pretty good game.

The doubles are going to keep coming at Brunson and Randle, especially in the playoffs. That’s why we need a 3rd guy. We don’t have some kind of super freak superstar. This is where our youth is a short term negative. Some of these young guys will probably need playoff experience to get more seasoning or hopefully to show they can handle the pressure of really big games. We are going to need someone else to step up.

Every teams’ best players get doubled, that’s kinda predictable. Others will have to step up. Hopefully IQ, Grimes, Hart and RJ are up to the task.

    Now 4th in offense

    Efg% up to 20th

    48-win pace

    8-game win streak

    Beating playoff teams

    Game winners

The big 3—Randle, Brunson, IQ—on fire

    IQ up to a 99 TS+

This is where we need RJ to embrace his role as the 3rd guy and regain his balance on offense. I’d love for him to move the ball more and focus on winning plays. His recent tunnel vision is disheartening sometimes. He does look for guys, but with Randle and Brunson playing the way they are- he doesn’t need to look to score so much. Now when he’s with the 2nd unit, then we need his shot creation more. Embrace that, RJ! We know how good you can be- you don’t need to prove you can score to us every time you have the ball. Focus on making the jumper, moving the defense and the ball more, playing consistently on defense, and taking advantage of mismatches. You have the bag already- make your role invaluable like Hart does, with more rope to score of course

Mitch’s stats were weird…33 minutes, 2 points, 5 rebs, -23…I missed the first 3 quarters, what was the deal?

I have never sat down and watched a full replay of a game I missed.

    But I’m tempted.

the trapping is pernicious against us for a few reasons. 1) randle is one of our two iso go to guys, but he is way below average than your typical initiator when he has to start 30 feet out against the double 2) brunson is actually not great at this either, esp against the wrong primary defender like dipo 3) we don’t have a reliable short roll guy who can set a screen, get the ball at the ft line extended and make a hard, quick decision.

we tried to use hart as this guy last night on the second to last play, but randle couldn’t get him the ball when herro left to trap; it’s unclear to me how good an option this is overall. this is one of the big downsides to having mitch out there, bc he is a big negative in the high post especially when you throw in the hack risk.

i have wondered if thibs should consider using jalen as a decoy (initially) and having randle screen for iq in these situations. iq has the burst and decision making to get the ball to randle on the short roll if trapped, and they might well not trap him with jalen on the weak side. if he can get it to randle in good position with jalen in the corner and mitch in the dunker’s spot it is a much better situation. it won’t always be as bad as miami was, but it isn’t a small thing either.

I agree, milo. That really was playoff atmosphere, and we’ll see that same level of intensity on traps if we don’t learn to handle them better. I wasn’t counting TOs, but even if we didn’t lose the ball, the traps took us way out of our offense and used a lot of clock. It’s a problem.

I feel like IQ and Grimes can be the solution – I trust them more than Josh – but they need to practice against it.

Also, iHart would be much better than Mitch in those situations because of his passing.

    3) we don’t have a reliable short roll guy who can set a screen, get the ball at the ft line extended and make a hard, quick decision. We tried to use hart as this guy last night on the second to last play, but randle couldn’t get him the ball when herro left to trap

Saw this too. Was thinking Hart et al should be practicing this a million times a day to complete the total different look compared to Mitch. 3ptrs from Hart, yes, but this idea affects the oppo defense just as much IMO.

    @Geo

Those facts are of the large variety LOL

How the hell are ya, sir?

TNFH I was thinking the same about watching a replay. We are playing them 2 more times and Spo is a genius so my guess is whoever we play in the postseason is going to be studying that film…

Yes, ever since the second half of the game before this, we’ve entered trap land, and of course Miami watched that and game planned it. Because that’s what they do, the little fuckers.

The good thing is it means we’ll have some practice at learning how to beat it before the playoffs. Coming in to a playoff with no prep and getting that would likely end up with an Atlanta result.

And Hubert, I’m 100% in your court with Mikal over the others. Won’t happen, but that’s the guy I’d want. We’d totally be the 70s Knicks. For years.

Oh, and E, 25 points, but -14. Same old Cam. Still, glad he’s getting a chance to ball. But poor Dame.

Is it tempting fate to try using Breen’s BANG! BANG! as our new catchphrase?

I love this opener in the NYT write-up of the game:

“Here’s just some of the things Julius Randle did in the final seconds Friday night: He lost the ball, fell to the floor, sent New York coach Tom Thibodeau sprawling and collided with a security guard.

Oh, and he hit a game-winner – as the red-hot Knicks found a way again.”

    That’s our Julius…

Looking at the standings…we are up 4 in the loss column on 7th and 8th place…mathematically…don’t see either of those teams catching us with 20 to go….

OTOH…if we can beat Cleveland in the final matchup and end up in a tie with them…we win the head to head and have home court in a 4-5 matchup…and Clev is not a great road team…

Celts will be angry after blowing a huge lead to the Nets, tomorrow’s game will be another massive measuring stick. A loss seems likely but damn, betting against us right now is a fool’s errand…

Yeah, last year Julius’s final shot (in or out) would have launched thousands of negative posts.

Here’s the thing… in 2021 we were all expecting a little more… right now it’s more like “this team is good but unfinished.”

We’re going to have several games this year where the end-of-game execution looks just like this. I’m ready for it. If we overcome it, great. If we don’t, it’s not anyone’s fault, we’re just not there yet.

Was RJ closing last night? I don’t remember. When he does close, it’s a problem. If you pass him the ball he’s going to take the shot. We don’t want him to do that. Our opponent does.

It would be nice to see something besides hero ball at the end but I think our options are limited bc we’re fairly easy to defend. Which is weird to say about one of the best offenses in the league. I dunno, maybe I’m wrong.

Although… every time we played the Hawks Trae Young ended up isolated on his defender with a spread floor.

Is it awareness? Ball handling? It seems that guys like Brunson usually find a way to get the ball back and in good position.

It would be nice to see something besides hero ball at the end but I think our options are limited bc we’re fairly easy to defend. Which is weird to say about one of the best offenses in the league. I dunno, maybe I’m wrong.

You aren’t wrong; that’s the whole thing with the “gimmicky” offense and the fact that teams aren’t going to bother with massive prep for it on a cold January Wednesday and so the Knicks get a built-in Moneyballesque advantage.

And, look, let’s set expectations here while still hoping we never get to this point. This is New York and it’s the Knicks’; this is not Minnesota Nice or the St. Louis Cardinals or something where we just root and smile come what may.

This team is not very potent at the 2/3, and it’s on them that they’ve decided to go with Quentin Grimes and Josh Hart there in serious minutes. There isn’t some kind of mandate from heaven to do that. And to go with rim protection and clogged lane. If, upon serious preparation by the other team, this thing goes south in the playoffs, recriminations are both warranted and inevitable.(*)

But there’s no projection either way, yet. Let’s see how it plays out. As you’ve said, the chance to show their stuff has been earned.

(*) They have intentionally eschewed “trying to simply beat the other teams doing things normally, because we have better players.”

    (2)

Thibs said something in the post game that I caught about this. He said that the Knicks defense was the cause for poor offense. Because they could not get stops they had no possessions where the Heat D wasn’t totally set and they couldn’t get rhythm and exploit mismatches and move faster.

That makes no sense. Thibs just loves to harp on poor defense. It’s like listening to Strat say “once you have cap space you have to spend it.”

    1. Sadly I think RJ may be the best guy to give the ball to if Brunson is doubled and Randle is 30ft away. His development is disappointing, to say the least, but if there are only 5-6 seconds on the clock RJ is at least able to get to the rim, and that threat may free up Jalen or Julius for a quick catch and shoot.

    2. I liked watching Cam once his boneheaded plays were mostly eliminated. He has some talent. But I love watching Hart, so definitely a brilliant trade.

    3. Watching replays is great. No commercials so it’s pure basketball, and the games are shorter (important for us busy folks) and as a bonus I can go back to plays I didn’t get and watch them again and again. Fun stuff.

Cool that the Knicks won a squeaker. Did the bar brawl at the Pig and Whistle come down to the wire too, or was it a blowout?

Raven, could you please publish a link to the Times article? I can’t find it.

The Knicks had a friggin’ .685 eFG last night. The “gimmick” to the offense consisted of “throwing the ball into the basket.”

Katz tried asking Thibs about getting pancaked by Julius:

I asked him if that was his first drawn charge and he said yeah and then I asked him about it and he talked about how all he cared about was that there was still time left on the clock and he had to get the team ready for the Heat’s upcoming play

After hiding all day long from every possible device and newsfeed I was finally able to watch the game… without knowing the score!

So I was ooooohing and aaaaaahing and pumping my fist and raising my arms and yelling at the fucking refs and fuming when we missed free throws or turned the ball over…
Luckily my wife kept her composure and didn’t call an ambulance even when I screamed on top of my lungs on Julius’ last shot… or Mitch’s following steal.

What a win. What a fucking win.
Not rolling into fetal position when the Heat stormed back and took the lead was a huge sign for the future of this team.
Believe me, the Association is taking notes and nobody would like to face us in the playoffs.

    Before I go:
fuck the refs, fuck Butler’s FTs and fuck the Miami Heat and their bandwagon-jumping fans.

    Quick Grades:

    Randle A+
best game of his Knicks career.

    Brunson A
    How’s his ankle going?

    Mitch B-
sorry Mitch, you’re not the 2nd best center in the East. But we love you nonetheless.

    Barrett B
down, up, down, up… he gives me headaches every single game…

    Grimes B-
    Defensive effort save him.

    Quickley A
    Microwave’s not missing a beat.

    Hart B+
Keep your cool man, we need you

    Hartenstein B+
    Team’s best plus/minus, +22 in 15 minutes isn’t that bad…

    Toppin C+
The weaker link in the Bench Mob

    Thibs A
I loved the IQ/Grimes/Hart/Julius/Mitch defensive line for the last play.

For the record, I’d be very happy if we acquired either Jimmy Butler or Kawhi Leonard. Mikal would be great too, more due to his age and health.

The Knicks are 7th in the NBA in SRS, and five of the six teams ranked ahead of them are plausible title contenders: DEN, MEM, BOS, PHI, MIL. The other team is CLE, who rank 1st in SRS.

We may not be title contenders yet but it’s hard to refute the argument that we’re a single piece away from joining that uppermost tier of true contention.

Z–Man, of the three, all things being equal, which one? I would grab Bridges, which is probably a minority opinion.

    @Wayloncash

I’m with you, he’s younger, accustomed to play third fiddle (even if he can do more) and never miss a game…

I have an irrational love for Butler, so he’d be first. I’d have to look at Kawhi’s health real carefully, because if he can stay reasonably healthy, it’s a no-brainer for me to take him over Bridges. I’m still not convinced that Mikal is good enough of a shot creator to be in that class, but would be thrilled to find out…just don’t think it’s possible.

I think DeRozan is someone else they should take a look at this offseason. His age is not ideal for us, but he is a legitimate closer. Any of these trades depend on the price of course.

Max, as an aside, I always record games and watch them on an hour delay to avoid commercials. I do the same for the Giants and Mets. Z–Man, I also love Butler, but I guess I’m being an age discriminator, which is ironic!

Yes. Bridges also *feels* like a Thibs guy.

Cost, though? Sending Bridges our way gives us a plausible title contender, so the asking price will be extra high-high.

As much as my Villanova grad son would be in 7th heaven reuniting Brunson,Hart and Bridges, it just ain’t happening fellas. Tsai is not gonna do anything to help us and Bridges is now their best player by far.

I also don’t think Riley is doing any deals with us, so it kind of comes down to Kawhi or PG13 (assuming the Clips flame out in the playoffs)

They have intentionally eschewed “trying to simply beat the other teams doing things normally, because we have better players.”

So, when the Knicks front office is discussing a potential acquisition like Jalen Brunson or Josh Hart or Isaiah Hartenstein or whoever, your genuine, non-trollsy opinion is they sit around asking one another whether that player is a “Thibs guy?”

Well we know for sure that Butler is a Thibs guy, and hard to imagine Kawhi not liking Thibs although he’s a strange dude. Any of those 3 guys would vastly improve the team, although healthy versions of Butler and Kawhi are perennial all-NBA first ballot HOF types…Mikal isn’t quite there.

“Z–Man, I also love Butler, but I guess I’m being an age discriminator, which is ironic!”

The age and cost are major concerns, so I can’t fault you for that.

    @darules

    1. Sadly I think RJ may be the best guy to give the ball to if Brunson is doubled and Randle is 30ft away. His development is disappointing, to say the least, but …

Yeah. As a homer, I want Leon’s current bet on RJ to pay off rather than for us import Kahwi or PG13. Bridges is younger obvs and more under the radar, so I like that move, but, yeah, no one is gonna do the Knicks that favor.

Honestly, Leon strikes me as willing to stand pat, even for another year. He’ll keep looking for JHart-style upgrades, but may just keep rolling with his guys and work the draft. I think Leon’s core goal is consistency.

I think the vast majority of players in the NBA are Thibs guys, like 90+%, maybe 95+%. So it’s mostly a made-up concept

A better question is whether a particular player can withstand the demands of playing for a coach who doesn’t believe in things like scheduled losses, minutes restrictions, safe leads, and load management.

The Knicks still rank relatively low in team eFG% but most of the shot missers are no longer in the rotation, and some of the guys who got off to slow starts are shooting the lights out. There are only two low-eFG% guys left in the rotation, RJ and Obi, and Obi’s low eFG% is mostly due to the way he is (mis)used. Also Obi doesn’t take that many shots.

Right now this is just a good offensive team, no gimmicks necessary. They are throwing the ball into the basket quite regularly.

“A better question is whether a particular player can withstand the demands of playing for a coach who doesn’t believe in things like scheduled losses, minutes restrictions, safe leads, and load management.”

I think this clearly disqualifies Leonard. Any thoughts on DeRozan?

Re: Mikal vs. Kawhi vs. Butler, my sense is that this team needs an elite closer if it is going to make the leap to true contender. Brunson and Randle are sort of okay in that role for now, but Kawhi and Butler are, well, better?

DeRozan gives you another excellent closing option, but there are defensive concerns and he doesn’t shoot the 3. I’d rather stick with what we have than take the risk with him.

we have never reacted well to traps and ball pressure mostly because our guys are not really good ball handlers outside of Brunson but also that we are prone to a lot of mistakes when the game gets up and down… end of game adventures have been sort of our thing because of that …

I mean a lot of this stuff is absolutely not sustainable …. alot of what randle is doing is very similar to what he did in the second half years ago… he’s prone to bad decisions and bad shots and when hes hot it goes in….. he’s
just on another one of those tears….

the offense itself is good but randle is going to face challenges because teams are going to make him make those shots esp in the playoffs… he’s better at making the right pass now and he’s gone beyond those elbow isos now but that’s something I worry about heading into the playoffs….

“I think this clearly disqualifies Leonard.”

I wouldn’t go that far. It’s not really the coach’s call re: all cases of load management. With a guy like Kawhi who is coming back from a serious knee injury, you can live with him not playing b2b’s if that’s the extent of it, as it seems to be right now. He’s putting up great numbers and playing 33mpg, and he’s only going to be 32 when next season begins. He also has the shortest contract.

I don’t have enough info to conclude that I’d trade the farm for him, but a reasonably healthy 32-36yo Kawhi would be just fine in my book.

We should just blow teams out, then we don’t need to worry about last second shots

well I’ll tell ya Poindexter (who used to be totes the goat or something?)…

I was just thinking to myself – self, my goodness but how pernicious those trappings are that our valiant champion jalen brunson must endeavor to endure and persevere through…

    pernicious indeed 😛

Now Ja Morant’s social media shows him showing off and waving his gun around at some party. Kid is not going down the right path, and it’s getting worse, not better. NBA cannot step in (just yet) because he didn’t actually *do* anything, and unfortunately the NBA cannot legislate stupidity. He has not surrounded himself with the right people, and his Dad seems on board with his wannabe thug behavior, so he’s not going to be of much help. Bring in Shannon Sharpe to let the kid know what he’s actually risking.

Sorry to take it away from Knicks commentary. The team is playing great, and right now I wouldn’t advise any “tinkering” with the line-up at all. Whatever the hell they’re doing is working. This isn’t an Elf situation—as much as I am very unhappy with RJ and would rather give his minutes to E4, I certainly wouldn’t do it right now. The fact that RJ gives us more than Elf was giving us in the latter part of 2020-21 is more of an indictment on Elf than it is a compliment to RJ. Anyway, bottom line: Don’t F with anything right now.

I mean, I don’t think anybody expects NYK to keep firing off for a .650 eFG% every night, and of course you shouldn’t extrapolate a team’s performance during a red hot winning streak to a full season, but the Knicks have been an elite offensive team for a full half a season now. Their success on that side of the ball has already been sustained for quite a long time.

Brandon Clarke might have fucked up his achilles last night the grizz are kind of a mess

oh shit, forgot the question for a moment…

all’s okayish – spell check on the phone is seriously fucking with me at the moment…

it’s a trip, for someone as introverted, paranoid and hermitish as I am – I’m still like a magnet for love…

    thank god for that…

daughters knocked out in her room, she did cook dinner last night which was cool, better yet, she did a decent job cleaning up…

got at least one of the boys heading over to the house in a little bit…hopefully both can make it…I miss them…

and, my friend back east is making plans to head this way…we’ll see…

and to top it all off – got the dog laying across me, growling often at unseen “threats”, as I play elder scrolls online and type away…

busy week of work, full weekend…

ain’t that the way life’s supposed to be…I like it like that…some of the time at least 🙂

oh, and thanks for asking…sounds like your day has started off well…

I think Kawhi is clearly NOT a Thibs guy, he has this attitude where he seems to be disengaged of the coach and the rest of the team. Coming as a “superstar”, that could throw off some of our current players. Still, it would be great to have him.

hey doogie, one of the reasons it was a safe bet with julius this past off-season was his support system around him…

I’ll be honest, that’s a tough thing to be, young 20’s…big danger with drugs, alcohol, sex, driving – man, throw firearms on top of all that…

    yeah, not good man…

Jon Jones fights again tonight, talk about a troubled athlete…

his last few fights for his light heavyweight belt were toss ups, we’ll see how he does at heavyweight…he’s been in a lot of wars…

anyway, in the pre-fight docu piece they showed him training his dog to “defend” him…

I’m not so sure he’s allowed to own firearms…

the stench of violence on him is palpable…magnificent fighter in his 20’s…

i don’t know, ja’s worth a lot to a lot of people, hopefully someones intervene…

Did the bar brawl at the Pig and Whistle come down to the wire too, or was it a blowout?

Lol that was pretty wild. I haven’t been called out since the 4th grade.

Alas, I was a no show last night.

Between Zion’s health and Ja’s current concerns, winding up with the 3rd pick in that draft is feeling a *tiny bit* less painful…

Hehehe that was pretty clever. How about we bury the hatchet and enjoy the rest of a fantastic season? The fact that these fine people here have put up with us this long is a blessing neither of us deserve. Let’s not test them any further.

Bridges becoming a superstar makes the lead-up to that draft so much more painful, as we were all talking about Bridges for, like, months, he was pretty much universally loved here, and then they passed on him for Kevin fucking Knox.

“Now Ja Morant’s social media shows him showing off and waving his gun around at some party.”

He was actually shirtless and waving a gun around in a strip club in Denver

“Bridges becoming a superstar makes the lead-up to that draft so much more painful, as we were all talking about Bridges for, like, months, he was pretty much universally loved here, and then they passed on him for Kevin fucking Knox.”

I’m far more pissed we didn’t take Knox’s shorter, skinnier teammate but yeah….

Think Philly could have used him more than Zhaire Smith and the pick that became Tre Mann?

Just announced that Ja will be away from the team for “at least the next two games,” reportedly.

I’m far more pissed we didn’t take Knox’s shorter, skinnier teammate but yeah….

Oh, true, SGA would have made a lot of sense, too, and he’s a star, as well, but that’s why the Bridges stuff hurts, though, because we didn’t spend a lot of time talking about SGA (we generally all said, “Better than Knox!” but not “SGA over Bridges”). Bridges we talked about for months leading up to the draft.

Think Philly could have used him more than Zhaire Smith and the pick that became Tre Mann?

Man, I hated that trade at the time. And he’s from freaking ‘Nova!!!!

Alan, to answer your earlier question, I am only bringing out the double bang in VERY special circumstances.

It’s funny that I had just watched this video of Steph Curry honoring Breen for a previous double-bang with a new line of shoes…last night was certainly worthy of another!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6lxzGBpanI

What a gift it is to have had Breen through all these shitty years..here’s to hoping he gets to call lots of playoff games for us before he hangs it up!

Hehehe that was pretty clever. How about we bury the hatchet and enjoy the rest of a fantastic season? The fact that these fine people here have put up with us this long is a blessing neither of us deserve. Let’s not test them any further.

    Sounds good.

I don’t know of this Pig and Whistle reference, but I’m glad you two have agree to put your disagreements aside.

I’m taking a little time to post right now as my lil one sleeps. I had a bad night mentally last night: in additional to dealing with the loss of my son’s godmother/best friend’s wife and reintegrating back to new dad duties this week, I’m also under contract to sell my house in Syracuse. Had I been able to sell it 6 months ago, I could’ve gotten 10-12% more. But I couldn’t because I had this nasty tenant who didn’t want to leave nor pay rent after I legally terminated her lease (month to month). And I’ve had to sink at least several grand more into the property to address issues to get it sale-ready vs had I been able to sell in the fall. I can’t tell my agent nor the buyer “hey, I’m helping my dude lay his wife to rest and I have a newborn at home – can yall maybe give me a week to clear my head?” It’s just been difficult because I have to focus on the house sale alongside baby duties. All while sleep-deprived: I’ve always have had a hard time falling asleep and taking naps, and I have to use a cpap so it just makes it really hard to settle into a good sleep quickly. I don’t want or need a break from my son – just from “everything else”, and not getting that weighed on me a lot overnight.

My experience as an SIS (or SID) has taught me that with certain sports like basketball, players and coaches have their own language that fans and even staffers are largely not privy to. With a guy like Kawhi, players know him on a level we never will. So I’d want to know howthey would feel about having Leonard as a teammate.

As a point of reference: Beast Mode’s abhorrence of the media didn’t stop the Seahawks from winning a Superbowl (should have been two). His teammates accepted who he was.

JK47, side question: Little Raven (Jackdaw?) is now in the 9th grade, and he is exposed to drugs and drink and other dangers. One reprehensible topic that came up was rock guitar. He thinks a guy named Tim Henson from the band Polyphia is great.

Once I’m done beating him with his cello bow for listening to the devil’s music, what should I tell him about Mr. Henson’s skills?

I decided to catch up on the Mandalorian. I love that they inserted Raylen Givens directly into Star Wars without even the slightest alteration.

Jimmy Butler was really fucking good for a guy who wasn’t supposed to play

I watched the replay. Couple of thoughts:
-Clyde alluded to the soft rims…it did seem like a bunch of shots that looked like misses rolled in
-RJ seemed to play pretty well on both ends, especially getting into the paint and finishing.
-Randle got the props he deserved, but that turnover leading to the Herro basket and the fumbling just before the shot were yikes-inducing. The last deflection seemed to hit off his heel and kick back to him.
-Brunson made 3 monster hoops in the fourth. Dude has icewater in his veins.
-iHart was very solid. The thing that pisses me off the most about him are the handsy fouls, especially the pushes in the back.
-IQ continues to play phenominally, can’t imagine winning any of these games during the win streak without him
-Love JHart but Butler’s size advantage was pretty evident
-The ambiance was that of a home game…soooo many Knicks fans!
-Obi got absolutely smoked like 3 times. We need more out of him, even if his role stays the same.

I’ve been watching the last quarter, and it’s been just as exciting as last night. Just some intense, all-out hooping. Julius and Jalen made some really tough shots.

And yeah, that wasn’t a great game from Josh. Just couldn’t handle Butler.

Just got to the last shot. Just wow.

And lol, this time I saw Julius take out Thibs

    Eastern Conference positional rankings:

    #1 PG in the EC
    #2 PF in the EC
    #5 center in the EC
top 3 defensive SG in the EC. Star in his role.
top 15 SF in the EC

2nd best bench in the Eastern Coneference:

6th man: #2 bench player in the Eastern Coneference.
#1 back up center in the Eastern Coneference
Top 10 bench player in the Eastern Coneference
    Obi: he’s all right..lol

Its about time time we stop acting like this team is not a legit Eastern Conference contender.

When Julius was being interviewed, on the court, Brunson gave him a low bear hug for like 10 seconds while Julius was talking. He subsequently said “we love each other” about his teammates and it sounded really genuine. That’s great to see!

Add much as I want to talk about Cam Reddish, instead I’ll ask this: what are the odds Grimes ends up being at least 80% of the player Herro is? I think pretty high, especially taking into account D. But there are a lot of similarities on O, the shot, the quickness, the decision-making….

Great Breen clip. Love how he brought out only the fourth double bang for this. Perhaps he is saving the triple bang for a Knicks title winner.

Josh was mediocre, he made a bunch of mental errors. He had played so clean to date but you knew a game like this was possible, especially against a tough team like Miami. Mitch was bad. It was one of the worst games I have seen from him. RJ had a big flurry of hoops but I thought his defense was mediocre on Herro.

Overall, one of the best wins of the year but can’t really compare to Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth which had a double bang moment of its own.

    Also, what the hell Ja.

Think Philly could have used him more than Zhaire Smith and the pick that became Tre Mann?

Man, I hated that trade at the time. And he’s from freaking ‘Nova!!!!

Mikal’s mother was the Sixers VP of Human Resources at the time, and because they knew nothing of what was going on behind the scenes both of them gave several interviews celebrating Mikal “coming home” and that it was “a dream come true”. That trade was sad even for non Sixers fans, and it’s great that it turned out to be a big blunder on the Sixers part.

@CDiggy: Sending you a virtual hug from this side of the Atlantic. Sometimes life throws at us a lot of stuff, good and bad, that it’s overwhelming. You hang in there and i hope better times will come soon.

Thanks Raven. I didn’t even know that Times section existed.

It’s hard to believe on what’s happening with Ja, almost as much as it is to believe that some here are missing Cam and think it’d have been better to keep him instead of trading for JHart !? 😮

I mentored a kid at my wife’s school last year who is a big fan of Tim Henson, so I’m familiar with him.

There’s a whole generation of young guitar players who can play with almost impossible technical facility. When I was a teenager, I was into guitar shred music, mostly Eddie Van Halen but also the other shred titans of the 80’s: Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, guys like that. I’m too old to have my indie cred membership card taken from me now so I can freely admit to that.

So I understand the attraction as a young person to players with monstrous technical skills. Tim Henson can play like a computer, it’s like a speed run of a video game. Some of the stuff he does doesn’t even seem technically possible. Guitar technique has come a long way even since the shred glory days of the 80’s and Tim Henson is kind of like the top dog of the nouveau-shred style. Tip of the hat and mad respect to anybody that can play like that, but it’s really not my cup of tea as an adult and I’ve never been that kind of player. I would have idolized him as a 15-year old.

The games tonight are interesting, Wizards host the Raptors to try and overtake them for the 9th seed. Same with Hawks playing in Miami to overtake the Heat (on a b2b, as we know) for the 7th seed. As they can’t lose all, i guess i’m not rooting for any of them. Who am i kidding, i hate Miami and would very much like to see them go down in the standings. 😛
Is it worthy to root for the Pistons to win against the Cavs in Cleveland? Probably a waste of time, right?

Root for the Wizards. We want that pick to convey, even if Leon winds up trading it.

Thanks, JK, you’ll make Jackdaw’s day.

And Cyber, absolutely worthy to root for the Pistons against the Cavs and absolutely a waste of time. Burks-Burks!

Unfortunately the Wizards are down by eleven with seven minutes remaining in the fourth.

Overall, one of the best wins of the year but can’t really compare to Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth

Today I learned that I live within shouting distance of the Arsenal supporter’s club in the East Village. I mean that quite literally. I’m one avenue over and two blocks down, and I heard them shouting after that goal. And they were inside.

Unfortunately the Wizards are down by eleven with seven minutes remaining in the fourth.

    Overtime now… let’s go Wiz! 😀

It would be really nice to have that Wizards pick this year with guys like Bridges and OG potentially available in the trade market.

I’m not so sure the Nets will want to build around Bridges. It seems like they’d be better off with as many picks as possible so they could do a proper rebuild.

Also it would be really, really easy for Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson to tamper with him.

And the Raps prevailed in OT. But who knows? Maybe the Wiz take them out in the play-in. 😉

«Jalen Brunson (sprained right ankle) is not on the injury report for Sunday’s game against the Celtics.»
    Thank God! 🙏

    @Geo

Indeed sir, indeed. Sounds like a charmed life. My daughter would rather me take her to some mall and spend all my pennies…like we did today LOL

And yup..Totes McGoats and I are one and the same. Every time I say that name/phrase or read it, I do it in my James Earl Jones voice from that old Sprint commercial

    Yeah..I got issues lol

Jack Doyle’s is the Arsenal spot now right? I think it used to be the blind pig.

Having kids is death to live premiership fandom

The Wizards also lost a close game to us. Wizards fans must feel very frustrated.

Noel has signed with Nets after getting bought out by Detroit.

The remarkable thing about the game last night is that we typically win by outrebounding and keeping TOs low, but we lost both of those categories yesterday. We just shot really well. Which is a good sign…I think? Or as Thibs said, “we were fortunate.”

If so, it’s been a long time coming.

I have very iffy internet and cell coverage (I’m in the literal boondocks of my parents home state of Gujarat, India). So I get very excited when I pick up some coverage and can load this page. And boy what a doozy! I get to read the game thread after the fact (I’m 11.5 hours ahead of eastern standard time. When it’s day for you guys it’s night for me).

Reading the game thread to me is even better than watching the highlights. The picture you guys paint. The highs and lows. The jubilation at the end when Julius hit the 3. Thank you. To all of you. The morning thread equally enjoyable.

My trip is almost over and I’ll get to watch the Knicks again for the first time in over 2 weeks. Don’t want to come home to the realities of life. But the Knicks playing well softens the blow.

By the way Z man if you see this- what part of the bill Russell doc were you in? That’s pretty cool indeed.

“By the way Z man if you see this- what part of the bill Russell doc were you in? That’s pretty cool indeed.”

Nah, but I clearly remember that there were three great rivalries in my six year old world: Sonny Liston vs. Cassius Clay, Bill Russell vs. Wilt Chamberlain, and King Kong vs. Godzilla.

howdy ll cool bp…great to hear your enjoying your trip…how cool that you all will have this memory to share together…

I really enjoy ancient civilization stuff…incredible history in the area…

    travel safe…

not a fan of bones jones – incredible fight history though…

I don’t know, probably still put gsp in front of him as the mma goat…

still, he’s got a very good case…bright lights seemed to zap gane…

let’s see if stipe can get the job done…

hi cdiggy, like a bunch of other folks here, I’m wishing you the best…

trust in yourself, watch your health, lean in to your support system, visualize the time when you know life will smooth out and slow down a bit…

this time will past…the big exhale moment is coming…
