2022-23 Game Thread: Knicks @ Nets

Stupid weird game times.

The Knicks have a great shot at making it three in a row, as the Nets are pretty awful without Durant.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Oh great…have to listen to Doris for two hours…oof…

We’re super spoiled with Clyde. I don’t even know how would it be to endure the last 20 years if we hadn’t Clyde and Breen.

Trivia question:
Can we play worse basketball than the last couple of minutes?

I’ll give you the answer in the third quarter 🙂

Perhaps I spoke too early? Doris says, “RJ defense has to be better…”

RJ has been solid on D so far except that one play. Grimes is getting cooked, but I don’t see a lot of mistakes, just some hard covers

Maybe McBride is just usually too close to the basket when he shoots threes.

Our shooting is so off I wonder if there’s something behind that hoop or what?

Curious to see if we shoot better in the second half…

I-Hart’s doing a good job screening for IQ…

Watanabe did enter the game shooting 47% and change from 3 so…

It would be kind of Knicksy to beat Cleveland and Boston and then get our asses kicked by Kyrie and the scrubbies.

>>Obi is trying to pack a season worth of shots into three minutes

He knows that’s all he has

Amazingly, we’re shooting better overall, from three, and from the FT line (i.e., they’re worse so far). But of course we’re WAY winning the turnover competition.

According to my list, we still have a couple of drives blocked in the lane by RJ and two dumb fouls/turnovers by Randle to look forward to

Timely 3 again from RJ. Thank you RJ (please learn how to drive)!

Ok, second dumb play from Randle, drives into traffic, gets lost on D ball-watching and gives up the 3.

One to go

We’ll that was a shitty first half of basketball.

Julius needs some meditation in the locker room to avoid the predictable ejection…

Nobody is playing well…outside of IQ…O’Neal is in Randles head….and he is getting discombobulated….and rest of team is following his lead…

I just can’t believe that Deuce got a 50-foot three and two drives rejected.

If we play to our basketball card in the second half we should win, but God that was ugly

Well if you watched the first half of the prior game you would have thought the Nuggets were winning for sure…

Cybersoze, you finally get a game that isn’t in the middle of the night, and you get this miserable performance from the Knicks. I hope their better in tge second half.

He’s an all-star and I’m still in, but Randle’s defense has been atrocious tonight. On the ball, rotations, and close-outs. The Triple Crown.

Who’s this Watanabe kid? And he’s top3 in 3P% !?

Pretty sure this is all you need to know about him. One of the few Asian players in the league.

Liking what I am seeing for RJ on offense

Apparently the Nets are going to make everything today

Feels like we’re really missing Mitch this game. He’d absolutely dominate the boards here

His absence is glaring

I was thinking about this. Me and Max deserve that the Knicks go on a run now. 😉

Are we shooting like 20% at the rim?

Grimes looks awful on offense right now, tell him to stop hanging out with Deuce

Funnelling isn’t that problem. They are 15 for 27 from 3. We are giving props where due – nice game from RJ – so maybe be cool for a change?

Gonna call this a bad matchup. Everyone on the Nets hit 3s at 40% and we give up too many 3s.

Still think Mitch shutting down drives would help significantly.

I don’t get why we let a guy roll the ball up the court when there’s only 3 seconds on the clock…

Grimes is great contesting 3s, always getting up close, jumping, and with his hand high. It’s why he gets so many encroaching fouls, but on net seems a positive.

I don’t get why we let a guy roll the ball up the court when there’s only 3 seconds on the clock…

I was screaming at my TV! 😠

Thibs with the trademark smirk and shake of the head as deuce clings another three point brick off the back of the iron…

When we cut it to 5 it felt like the Nets were gonna fold, and then voila, 10 point lead.

Considering the great last 2 games and the Nets depleted roster this might be the most disappointing Knicks effort this season.

Even without KD they have a ton of shooting, and maybe even more w/o Simmons. And Claxton is having an awesome game. Very balanced attack…

They will be tough in the playoffs at full strength…

Kind of hard to win when the other team hits everything and your 2 best players are subpar.

Deuce’s offense hurting us bad this game. Usually isn’t as big a deal. With everyone else on the 2nd unit rolling I would’ve thought it’d be fine. You need him to keep shooting though for the longterm.

Even without KD they have a ton of shooting, and maybe even more w/o Simmons.

No Simmons honestly helping a lot. Then again I don’t want to see Brunson or Randle need to deal with Simmons.

Thibs been waiting until later in the 4th to put RJ in the last few games, which I like. This is a nice lineup.

Kyrie is a generational talent on offense, but I’m still glad he’s not on our team

This loss vs the Nets is more disappointing than the win vs Boston was encouraging.

Disappointing slap in the face, we weren’t ready and lost the game in the first half, then Kyrie put on a show when we start playing like we can.

The Nets will be a pain in the ass in the playoffs…

Well, at least the team never gives up. When we got within 3 pts with 3 mins to play, i thought we were going to win. But that’s what superstars do, and Kyrie took over.

Nets 22 fot 40 from 3pt range. Inexcusable to allow that when besides Kyrie there was essentially nobody else on the Nets that could do anything except shoot open spot up 3pters.

Z- Man – Totally agree. This game is a perfect example of why crunch time is dumb.

Nets hit a ton of very tough shots. Winnable game but you can’t win them all.

it is really difficult to beat every team missing their superstar of a best player and this is what reversion to the mean looks like when that other team hits 20 some odd 3s…

Pretty lame loss. Still, we’re ahead of the W-L schedule with Mitch out. If you told me we were going to go 2-1 against 3 of the East’s 4 top teams with Mitch out, I’d sign up for that without blinking.

I think larger scale though, good, playoff level defenses are gonna have an easyish time shutting us down unless we get a real tertiary ball handler and passer. RJ is not that (he’s totally forgotten how to pass) and Thibs is apparently loath to play IQ more than 30 minutes if it takes pt from Grimes. Right now if teams key in on Randle and Jalen we have no one who can break down the defense off the dribble besides IQ.

In the playoffs that’s going to be rough, though having Mitch back to clean up our messes on ORBs would go a ways towards mitigating that. I think you need to trade for a SF like, say, Alec Burks (lol) to really get over the playoffs hump with this team.

Since we can’t trade for Burks, we should consider someone like, say, Caruso.

I thought it was a tale of two halves. We lost the first half by 13 points and won the second half by six points. The offense was terrible in the first half, the second half was better with a lot more scoring inside by the Knicks. If Kyrie hadn’t made some really tough shots at the end we might have won.

I didn’t watch the game but the nets shot 55 percent from three? Seems like that’s the game right there

Lakers gave away that game

Not untrue, but that no-call at the end of regulation was insane.

With the Lakers playing a back to back vs Nets then Knicks gonna be interesting to see if the Lakers rest AD and/or LeBron either of the games.

The problem with Yuta is he isn’t likely to shoot 48% from 3 every season, and I don’t know what he’s worth when he’s not doing that.

Yuta is younger, cheaper, and a better defender than Fournier, who no longer plays for the Knicks. He’s also a career 39% shooter from 3. He’s also a lefty.

He’s also a lefty.

This changes everything: sign him! Now!
