    @JCMacriNBA
Per @TheSteinLine in his just dispatched newsletter, Cam Reddish trade talks are intensifying, w/ Mavs, Bucks & Lakers in pursuit. Knicks looking for “2nd round draft compensation” and “are angling for Dallas to send Thibodeau favorite Reggie Bullock to NY” in any Mavs deal (1/2)

Allowing for the sunk cost of the two stupid trades that brought Cam here, getting a second plus Bullock would be pretty good. Bullock’s shooting numbers are kind of terrible this year, but if you hope for regression to the mean, he gives the second unit a guy who can shoot and also defend pretty well.

“Knicks looking for “2nd round draft compensation” and “are angling for Dallas to send Thibodeau favorite Reggie Bullock to NY” in any Mavs deal”

    Happy Birthday, Strat!

“Some Reggie bullocks with the bench unit sounds good to me!”

Only if he eats into #8 pick’s minutes…

We are 6 months away from letting Cam walk for nothing, so one or two 2RPs and Bullock seem great to me. And Cam doesn’t play, so switching him for a guy we can play at backup SF allows us to get back to a more sane 10 man rotation.

    About Jokic’s insane numbers:

Jokic has made all 19 of his 2-pointers over the last two games. He’s the first player in NBA history to record consecutive triple-doubles without missing a 2-pointer. Jokic is the only player in the NBA’s 3-point era (i.e., since 1979-80) to make at least 19 2-pointers over a two-game span without a miss.
Jokic has recorded at least 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists while shooting 50% from the field in each of his last 27 games, by far the longest such streak in NBA history. Chamberlain ranks second with a streak of 13 such games in a row in February 1967.

Man I would then move hart and go with sims as the back up to Mitch. Sims, bullocks, IQ and McBride would be a really strong defensive second unit and you’d have IQ and Bullocks who can both score (and hopefully OBI too). Make it happen Leon!

isn’t bullock signed for another year after this with a partial guarantee for next year? he can be kind of sort of useful if he’s hitting 3s.. but couldn’t we easily look elsewhere instead of taking back future money on an aging and pretty limited player?

At this point, Bullock and a 2nd would be nice return.

IIRC, last time the Knicks played Dallas, Bullock threw up tons of bricks. I think he’s a Knick at heart.
    🙂

Yes he is. I guess that complicates it a bit.

But if could move Fournier this summer then the hit wouldn’t be too bad for one more season.

Didn’t realize until I looked just how badly Bullock’s offense has fallen off a cliff in Dallas. Has a .518 TS this year on 9.4% usage (yikes) compared to .576 on 14.7% usage as a Knick. The version of Bullock we had two years ago would be a nice complimentary piece on this team but there’s a definite possibility he’s past it.

BullOCK has been dreadful for Dallas and plays a ton of minutes for them. They have really succeeded in putting a load of complete dreck around Luka, it is really something.

We don’t hear about Frank Ntilikina so much anymore, I wonder why that is? Maybe it’s because of his -7.4 BPM. Maybe Dallas would throw Frenchy in too!

Reggie Bullock is on the hook for $10MM next year.

We just saw Leon dump a lottery pick to shed $10MM.

The possibility of the 19th pick ultimately costing a first round pick has just entered the room.

Also, acquiring a player who has been terrible this year that Thibs loves is a terrible idea.

Thibs stomps his feet and throws a tantrum and winds up getting Bullock, who is terrible, back.

    LOLKnicks.

Just get him out of the organization.

(Technically, only 5.4 of the 10 next year is guaranteed, but everyone knows Thibs will piss and moan and they’ll guarantee the whole thing. Decision required by 6/28/23)

Seems like a stupid trade, mostly because Cam was showing signs of playing within himself on offense, and being disruptive on defense. His bpm, -2.2 is better than Bullock’s -3.4. Why the hell do it.

If BullOCK was a veteran minimum guy, fine. He’s not, though. Paying 32 year old replacement level Reggie BullOCK 10 million dollars next year would be some funny shit, you have to admit.

    2021 offseason:

Thibs: WAAAA, WAAAA, I want Bullock back, I WANT BULLOCK BACK! WAAAA! I DON’T WANT TO PLAY ROOKIES. WAAAAA!!!

Leon: OK, Thibs, we won’t draft anyone, instead we’ll incinerate the pick. OK??

Thibs: I STILL WANT BULLOCK BACK. WAAAA!!!

    ….

    pick traded for Cam Reddish

Thibs: WAAAA!!! I don’t WANT Cam Reddish!!! I WANT BULLOCK BACK!!!

[stomps feet, throws cheerios and juice box against wall]

I want Bullock back. I WANT BULLOCK BACK!!!! I’M NOT GOING TO PLAY CAM REDDISH, I WANT BULLOCK BACK!!!

    [throws Play-Doh against wall]

Leon: OK, if I get you Bullock back, will you finally stop whining??? JFC.

    Thibs: I WANT BULLOCK BACK!!!!

Wes: “Leon, we’ve got the 19th pick in the draft and the bird rights to Reggie Bullock. There’s some really good players on the board, including two that were projected to go in the lottery. How do you want to play this?”

Leon: “Let’s diminish the value of the 19th pick through a series of bad trades that will ultimately yield Reggie Bullock, but not until he is so bad it would cost assets to get rid of him.”

Wes: “Brilliant. We’ve analyzed all possible outcomes and determined that this course of action is better than drafting any of the players currently available. I’ll send Steve Stoute over to ESPN to talk about our innovative strategy that no one else in the league has the balls to try.”

Jokic has been so good that he has overshadowed Lillard, who has been putting up an array of crooked numbers of his own over the past two weeks.

i just looked up “washed up” in the pictionary…there was a picture of bullock there…

Fuck James Dolan. I bet he’s reading this, too. Fuck you, Jimmy. You are a shit singer and somehow even worse as an NBA owner. Fuck you.

    Here’s a crazy one:

    back-to-back-to-back MVPs

    Wilt
    Bill
    Larry
    [Nikola]

Doncic is the only one standing in his way, and he’d be a worthy choice too. Might come down to injuries. If one of them misses a couple weeks, that could be enough.

It doesn’t look like we’ll be using cap space this offseason anyway, so if taking back Bullock gets you half-decent draft compensation for Reddish I don’t see the big deal.

Bullock has been god awful this year and might be cooked. The case for him, and it’s a stretch, is last year he was also horrendous in the first half but got it together in the second half:

    Bullock’s games 1-41: 6.4 PPG, 38/32/77 shooting splits, .508 TS%

    Bullock’s games 41-82: 10.7 PPG, 42/39/87 shooting splits, .593 TS%

Jowles clearly doesn’t realize that those scanners work on ass cheeks too.

I am a no on Bullock. There has to be a better option. Like someone who is expiring and playing decently.

Count me in as also not wanting Bullock, that’s helping the Mavs out tbh.

BUT… maybe this is just a way to get the Lakers to pony up more goods? I hope so.

I would also like to trade Hart and promote Sims. Doubt it happens, but if Poeltl costs 2 firsts, maybe we can get 1 for Hart?

    >>Allowing for the sunk cost of the two stupid trades that brought Cam here, getting a second plus Bullock would be pretty good. Bullock’s shooting numbers are kind of terrible this year, but if you hope for regression to the mean, he gives the second unit a guy who can shoot and also defend pretty well.<<

Bullock is typically a very slow starter.

Cuban and the Dallas fans don't have much patience. Dallas seems like they are done with him right now (as they were early last year until he was very good down the stretch). We could probably swing that, especially because they have a couple of young players they want to give minutes to. I think Cam would also be a good fit there because they need players that create their own shot.

Bullock is not exactly what I have in mind in terms of age, but he would still have a role here and next year he'll be an expiring that can moved. I’d prefer, well, someone like Cam who could fill the backup SF role and is young. lmao That ship has sailed.

If we can get a 2nd rounder plus a useful player for Cam in any kind trade, that would be pretty good. We gave up a 1st rounder for him, but we got back a 2nd rounder as part of that deal. That 1st rounder currently looks like it's eventually going to become two 2nd rounders. So if we get one now, we would have given up two 2nd rounders and got two back for a look at Cam. If we are going to argue about the potential value of each 2nd rounder, we are being ridiculous in the grand scheme of things.

“Sources said Doncic, who hasn’t shown a desire to be involved in personnel matters in the past, has strongly indicated he wants the Mavs to upgrade before the Feb. 9 trade deadline.”

    Who can blame him?

They’ve done an incredible job building a team that will maximize his boxscore stats and MVP status, but a HORRIBLE job building a team that he can contend with.

“Doncic is the only one standing in his way, and he’d be a worthy choice too. Might come down to injuries. If one of them misses a couple weeks, that could be enough.”

Before it’s all over, Doncic might take his diet and body seriously, get in peak shape, and improve his defense further just like Jokic did. For THIS season I think I’d still take Jokic.

Can you imagine those 2 playing together?

I might move to whatever city had them and buy season tickets.

If the choice is between Cam walking for nothing and Bullock at 5m guaranteed next season + a 2nd from Dallas, you take the trade every time. Cam’s not getting PT, Bullock may if he manages to not be terrible. Seems like only upside to me unless the guaranteed money ends up costing us somehow (which I doubt, despite the usual KPTSD jeremiads.)

Before it’s all over, Doncic might take his diet and body seriously, get in peak shape, and improve his defense further just like Jokic did. For THIS season I think I’d still take Jokic.

Can you imagine those 2 playing together?

Diminishing returns, IMO. They each need cutters and shooters. It would be insane for any team to have 48 minutes of Doncic and/or Jokic, but the best pass that either of them can make is to the rim or to an open 3PT shooter.

Aaron Gordon’s dunk rate career high in ORL: 13.1%

Aaron Gordon’s current dunk rate: 28.8%

His TS% has jumped 100 points from ORL to DEN, and it’s no surprise why.

Now give me Steph Curry moving off-ball with Jokic standing like he’s a QB in the pocket…

    “Diminishing returns, IMO. ”

I agree, but on a scale of 1-10, both those guys are a 14.

    So if we got 14 + 14 = 23 I’d be happy. 🙂

“Can you imagine those 2 playing together?”

Sixteen straight touch passes back and forth to each other until the other team walks off the court in disgust.

Then they’d take turns blowing the dunk.

Jokic and Doncic are top-15 players when all is said and done. It would be a dangerous thing to have them on the same offense, for sure. Just a little duplicative in the whole “generational shot creation talent” thing.

I wish we had that problem.

Setting Bullock aside Thibs was 1000% right about Cam Reddish, who was a very stupid pickup by the front office if they (and they seem to) wanted to win games sooner rather than later. Reddish is a guy you take a swing on when you’re not trying to win, because you understand he’s currently awful.

I wonder how Brunson would feel about it if Doncic wanted to come here?

It would be funny though. Would kind of complete the whole NYK Dallas weird trade connection thing from the last few years.

I’d even be willing to give up another second round pick for tampering to snag Luka!

Jokic and Doncic are top 15 players all time? Or in the NBA.

When they finish their careers, both top-15 players. Right now, they are top 2.

Luka is 2ish years away from his prime. That’s some scary shit.

I’m not sure Thibs is a bad judge of NBA usefulness. In Minnosota he was a bad GM because of money stuff, not because the players he liked didn’t work out.

I need some TV advice. As you know, I work in China, but now I am headed back to the US for an extended vacation. In the US my cable TV supplier is Comcast and they no longer carry MSG. What are my options for watching Knicks games? Note that since I live in NJ and I think that my house is part of the NYC metropolitan area, I suspect league pass games will be blacked out in real time. Is that correct? If so, I want some other way to watch.

I’m not sure Thibs is a bad judge of NBA usefulness. In Minnosota he was a bad GM because of money stuff, not because the players he liked didn’t work out.

I mean, he had 37-year-old Jamal Crawford 2nd on the team in USG in Minny over Towns and Wiggins (Towns was fourth in USG!).

The trade never made sense. It was just so fucking weird from the word go. As soon as he didn’t play right away, I wrote that deal off as a loser. If they seriously thought he had some hidden talent that they were going to unlock, I figured I’d give them a chance to prove that. Instead, they benched him right away, proving it was always just a bad idea of a trade.

BC I thought the trade was a bad idea because I did not think Cam was worth what we gave up for him. However, I had no issue with Thibs initially not playing him because Cam clearly had holes in his game and thought too much of himself, and therefore getting him to understand that he needed to earn minutes rather than giving them to him right off the bat seemed logical to me. In ogher words, it wasn’t a “help us right now” trade as much as a short-term investment in a player that they felt they could have turned over for better value than what they paid. And Cam was in fact in the rotation when he went down for the season with a shoulder injury.

Cam has had a fair look. He is just not good. Period. And that should have been apparent before the trade.

Beal is back, so between that and our struggles in defending our home court, this is all of a sudden a big game.
