2022-23 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Pacers – One is the Loneliest Number?

The Knicks host the Pacers in which you’ve got to be thinking is a sort of measuring test game for both teams. The Knicks want to show that they’re better than the Pacers, and the Pacers want to show that they belong in the mix for the #6 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Big game. Let’s hope that the Knicks start their winning streak over again, staring with one.

Let’s go, Knicks!

As an aside, RIP, Jeff Beck. I put together a sampling of the songs he was nominated for Grammys for, just to give you an idea of the work the guy had been up to the last fifty years.

Very sorry for Jeff Beck 🙁

Big game, first one of a meaningful 7-games stretch against direct competitors for the 6th-10th spots or bottom feeders (IND, @WAS, @DET, TOR, WAS, @ATL, @TOR).

Let’s Go Knicks!

@Cyber
I just watched Rokas’ best EL game of the year (a win at Villeurbanne):
25 min, 13 pts, 4/8 2FG, 1/2 3FG, 2/2 FT, 5 Reb, 4 AST, 1STL, 1 TO

Jeff Beck was phenominal. Because We Ended as Lovers had special significance as the soundtrack of my first breakup.

RIP Jeff Beck! 🙁
Very good Rokas news, thanks Max! I was starting to lose my hope on our fellow european, it’s good that he’s showing signs of life again!
Welcome back, KYN! 😉
Gooooo Knicks!!

And we have the answer to the question “what will happen when RJ is healthy again?” 😐

There’s some lady who’s hootin’ and hollerin’ every time a Knick scores — it somehow adds something to the telecast…

grimes w only 1 fg was just awesome in the quarter

Yeah, yeah, but the tier, the tier, that’s what this is all about. 😀

randle is the tyus jones of complaining about a teammates’ defensive mistake to being right about it ratios

Despite the Pacers having a slightly better record I think we’re seeing why the Knicks are 8th in SRS and the Pacers are only 16th.

Too much “it’s my turn now” from Randle. Don’t need his isoing and initiating with JB playing great and RJ playing very well and with both being … you know … guards. Surplus to requirements. Still not sure it’s a fit and definitely not sure he gets it.

From the box score it looks like Randle isn’t shooting much but is doing other good stuff

Edit: but he does have a lot of turnovers

I’m glad he’s a positive. I’m certainly not complaining about the score.

Is it bad that my first thought upon getting home from work to see the 78-56 score is “Boy, this is going to have the be one hell of a 4th quarter collapse!”?

Between us cooling down, Pacers heating up and the refs stinking this is becoming a dangerous game…

We gotta fix our “under pressure” mode to go to the next level
4thQ would be interesting

Well this is disappointing, they didn’t even wait until the 4th quarter to collapse… Things have to play out differently at some point just by chance, right? At some point the consistency just becomes implausible.

Horrible reffing and Hart singled-handedly gave up like 6 points

Just get the starters back in and close it out

Why worry?
As Katz said everybody’s losing a 25 points lead this days, we’re only doing it better…

Could really use Grimes in there

Edit: Really, really, really

Edit 2: Reaaaalllllyyyyyy

RJ’s getting cooked out there, need to switch Grimes in.

Put another in the “certain loss without Brunson” column, AKA most games we’ve played this year

RJ is single handedly responsible for like 12 points given up in this quarter

Barrett has played 40 minutes coming back after two weeks while Grimes stays on the bench….

If you can’t get the ball inbounds you can’t really win, because that means the other team just always has the ball

Awesome 3 by Grimes but why the hell did he pass that back to RJ, a much worse FT shooter?

not only that but rj almost didn’t establish himself inbounds. we squeaked out that one.

Thibs can go fuck himself. RJ giving the game away, Grimes on the bench, then he brings him in for the final minute…for IQ??? If he doesn’t get over his RJ fixation we’re gonna be losing games again. And will deserve it.

@rama it was for Mitch but understandable because I never thought he’d pull the C

Geez. I couldn’t watch the game, but I saw they were up by like 20 at one point, but when I came back in the 4th, they were barely hanging on, yet that wasn’t a surprise. Looking at the box scores though, I’m wondering why Thibs essentially only played 6 players tonight. Outside of IQ, the other reserves didn’t even crack double digit minutes. Also, RJ’s FG% just cratered from the first half. Why does Thibs let him shoot so much?! It’s maddening.

Pacers have been outscored on the season and have been relatively healthy. They’re not that good, they should eventually drop down to the play in. If the Knicks realistically want to finish 6th the Miami Heat is the team they’ll have to really contend with.

Randle’s yoga instructor should have a word with the unit that closes the games

RJ’s legs looked shot at the end. No idea why he was still in. That’s 100% on Thibs and not the guy who hasn’t played in 2 weeks.

BBA, I get it but they are very young and are starting to gel and Carlisle is an excellent coach.

1. I’m with Pop. I can’t wait until they add a 4 and 5 point play to this sport and turn it into a complete circus. It’s getting almost unwatchable with all these 3s and the volatility and randomness that comes with it.

2. RJ must have compromising pictures of Thibs.

3. Important win, but I really have to question why I watch these games. I get no pleasure from it. It’s all aggravation and fear of another torturous loss. I’d rather get blown out by 30 and switch over to reruns of True Blood at halftime. At least I’d get to see Sookie nude and have some laughs.

RJ’s absolutely boneheaded 4 point play is exactly the type of thing you would think Thibs would have no tolerance for.

RJ was getting a bunch of open 3pters in the 4th quarter that he missed. I have no problems with his shot selection down the stretch, the biggest problem was his defense trying to stay with Hield.

“RJ’s absolutely boneheaded 4 point play is exactly the type of thing you would think Thibs would have no tolerance for.”

If you watch that play, Mitch was guarding Bitadze who set a screen for Hield. He was totally out of position, forcing RJ to go hard over the screen. RJ shouldn’t have fouled him but Mitch has to help there.

Um Grimes came in for Mitch not IQ.

Mis-typing in anger. RJ freaking killing us and Thibs doesn’t sub out his golden boy. I’m glad RJ can’t neck strong, but our collapse was at least 70% his responsibility. He needed to be out of the game…but Thibs somehow didn’t see it??

Knicks haven’t played the Heat yet but are 6-3 vs Pacers, Hawks, Bulls and Raptors. Tiebreakers might come into play and so far Knicks doing well vs their main competition in the 6th thru 10th spots.

“RJ was getting a bunch of open 3pters in the 4th quarter that he missed. I have no problems with his shot selection down the stretch, the biggest problem was his defense trying to stay with Hield.”

There’s a reason teams choose to leave RJ open so often. He’s more likely than other players to shoot the Knicks out of a game because he’s an inconsistent below average shooter, shows no restraint at all, and will even force awkward and bad ones when there are better options on the court and enough time on the clock to get something better.

Of course, we all know RJ’s bad tendencies on offense. But specifically tonight I don’t think he forced hardly any shots, he wound up taking 23 FGA but to me they were all pretty much good looks. Those wide open 3pters he missed late in the game I have no problems whatsoever with him taking.

We rag on Wally a lot but looks like he was right about Tyrese being a fake all star.

Didn’t watch, sounded agonizing

we have been victorious once more – rejoice…

i think we need to discuss this:

Important win, but I really have to question why I watch these games. I get no pleasure from it. It’s all aggravation and fear of another torturous loss. I’d rather get blown out by 30 and switch over to reruns of True Blood at halftime. At least I’d get to see Sookie nude and have some laughs.

it is okay to turn the channel, walk away for awhile, do something else…i slept most of the second, and then did “stuff” that took me away from the game during some uncomfortable moments in the fourth…

I actually thought Randle played his ass off defensively tonight. The entire 4th quarter until Grimes came in for Mitch Randle was having to cover a guard on the perimeter, his block late in the game was a huge play. But definitely struggled offensively despite actually not taking and forcing many shots.

Owen, Wally did a mea culpa prior to the game, sorta weak, saying he probably won’t be one this year but definitely will in the future.

Hali started slow but was turning it on when Mitch stepped on his leg during a rebounding situation. Hali limped off the court and didn’t return, but he was definitely coming on.

The second unit continues to be a problem- both IQ and RJ have had very good moments as the third option with the starters but have been total ass as primary initiators with the second unit. Hart needs to sit and get healthy and Deuce has to find a way to contribute SOMETHING on offense.

P.S. Jeff Beck was the George Gervin of rock guitarists- absolute stone cold stud as soloist/scorer but never really made the guys around him better.

And he actually landed awkwardly on his shot leading into it, so may have been injured before Hart stepped on him…

Awful news for Hali, good for the Knicks’ playoff positioning! And good news for Brunson’s All Star Game chances!

I just saw Sacramento is actually in fourth place in the west (with a similar record to ours). In their game tonight, they blew out Houston. That is a long suffering fan base. I’m happy for them.

Yeah, like I noted yesterday, the Western Conference has been eating itself alive. Lots of parity there.
