@ JK — “I’ve been reading Dan Charnas’ book “Dilla Time””

Thx. I love when KB digresses a bit into BookerBlogger.

My (New Year’s) plan is to read at least one book being neglected on my shelves for every shiny new title, so I’m currently tucked into Mary Gaitskill’s BAD BEHAVIOR, which is long overdue. She offers a grimy yet soulful peek into NYC from back when Duane Reade was just one Duane Reade 😉

More titles are always appreciated (from me, at least). I think we had some Coetzee fans posting a while back and some Ernaux doubters (haters?). What y’all reading?

Oh, and let’s crush the Rockets tonight. Cheers for 2023.

Oh, and let’s crush the Rockets tonight.

I find it so hard to believe that they won’t be able to do so. The Rockets are bad, and the Knicks are a lot better than this losing streak (while, of course, being worse than the winning streak). So this just has to be a win. Has to be.

Well Brian, you just “Cronin-ed” this one lol.

Despite their shitty record the Rockets have beaten some good teams this month, including the Suns, Bucks and Sixers.

    And we’re not even good!

I am very concerned about this Cam situation. A bit player on your roster shouldn’t have big consequences, but this one is odd. Thibs’ stubbornness(for lack of a better word) towards Cam will likely lead the FO to make a move that isn’t good for the team. It could be the FO taking Thibs’ side and either moving Cam for pennies, the team holding on to him and never playing him and then not even re-signing him, or Thibs not expanding his rotation in the regular season leading to the team wearing down and Thibs getting replaced in-season by Bryant- when he’s not quite ready to lead a team that CAN make the playoffs. It also could put Bryant in a tough spot and skew the team’s view of his coaching prospects. Leon needs to sit down with Thibs and tell him we need to get something out of Cam between now and the deadline, because team’s don’t know who Cam is- but they know who Fournier is. Y’know? I don’t like this at all. Especially when guys are injured and we are losing

Thibs is in charge of who gets minutes. It has to be that way and Rose should not interfere. Sure Rose can ask Thibs privately why Cam isn’t playing but he shouldn’t do more than that.

Anyway I’m sure Cam plays during practices. That’s where he has to make his case he deserves minutes.

Under normal circumstances Knick Fan, I would agree. But there is NO WAY Fournier is outplaying Cam in practice outside of shooting. More importantly, with no SF on the roster that can help defensively, Cam doesn’t really need to make his case in practice. Thibs already knows how much better defensively Cam is, and has already seen him score when needed. This grudge(again- for lack of a better word) against Cam has gone too far. And it’s stupid because Cam isn’t a main rotation piece. The problem lies with Thibs knowing he needs him, but refusing to play him. If everyone were healthy, then it would be a non issue

Re Bradley, I don’t mind that he is in, if strictly for college and Oxford. But the fact that the narrative was so strong about him being a Rhodes Scholar etc, just seems silly. He wasn’t a very good NBA player.

It does give me great satisfaction to know that Manu was first ballot. No one deserves it more.

Not playing Cam even under these circumstances is weird. I don’t even like Cam’s game and it’s clear to me that his length and ability to occasionally make a play could be useful. I mean, we’re trying to win games here and all.

The Spurs are -8.81 for 30th in SRS. Houston is all the way up at an insurmountable -5.73 for 27th.

I’d suggest John McPhee’s A Sense of Where You Are about Bill Bradley’s days at Princeton as a way to kick off A Knickerblogger reading group if I wasn’t so sure it come off a whole lot cringier from a racial perspective than it did when I read it in my early 20s.

Agree on Cam, it reeks of some kind of falling out behind the scenes.

Nice to see IQ breaking out a bit. If nothing else, the injuries to Brunson and RJ are providing opportunities for him to show what he can do as a go-to guy.

Apparently we are talking with the Pacers about Obi. Someone asked what we should ask for in return.

    Tyrese?

    Too much?

Shit, if we do that, I’m becoming a Pacers fan. An Obi/Myles Turner frontcourt would be fantastic along with their killer Hali/Mathurin backcourt.

Uhh… wondering that means we’re gonna keep the Sims/iHart frontcourt? Sims deserves minutes but that’s kinda crazy? That said, the ORB numbers have been bonkers.

Maybe keep Fournier with the 2nd unit permanently?

I’m sure Leon is interested in Hield, which is so depressing. Or maybe Nesmith and a pick? We obviously need 3pt shooting.

Obi to Indiana makes sense since most of his highlights seem to come against them. They don’t really have much to offer. Heild makes to much money. Maybe Brisset or Duarte and their first round pick?

Nesmith would be fine, and only fine. He’s 23 and very Thibsy—hustle player, smart, etc.

He was an elite shooter in college—high 3pa rate, high 3p%, high ft%—everything you want to see. But a lot was based on a short sophomore season he hit over 50% (33.7% as a freshman). Total over 40% in his collegiate career.

And… he has been terrible in the NBA (33.3%). Still has a high ft% and solid attempt rate. 3p% was been pretty good as a rook and so far this year, but an atrocious 27% as a sophomore is what tanks his career average.

If he can find his stroke again he could be something, then we can just copy/paste the Grimes argument. Maybe he can be better off screens to boost his ceiling.
