2022-23 Game Thread: Evan Fournier and the Knicks @ the Tanking Rockets

Evan Fournier’s Knicks head to Houston tonight to try to avoid losing three straight games in Texas and, well, come on, people, yes, RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson are going to miss another game, but it’s the Rockets! They’re actively tanking to try to get the best shot at Wemby in the lottery (and boy, would he fit their roster perfectly. I guess the same could be said for most rosters, though), so the Knicks really, really, really should stop their losing streak tonight, and hopefully enter 2023 with a winning record, at least.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Unless the Pacers are sending picks, I don’t see an Obi Toppin trade with Indy that makes sense.

I don’t really necessarily mind trading Toppin (since he’s obviously never going to get to play here), but the return has to make sense. They can’t just be dumping the guy.

I’d hate to see him go, but maybe a first and Duarte would be fair. Hali and Obi running the break might make me break my TV!

Something definitely wrong with Mitch… mishandled a perfect lob. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do that.

Grimes with 2 nice drives tho

Happy New Year fellows!
Festivities and Prosecco kept me awake so I can happily watch Julius Randle iso-ing the Rockets to death…
As Bono would say “nothing changes on New Year’s day” (I know, it’s still 2022 in the US 🙂 )

What’s up with Mitch? That missed dunk was… not good.

And what’s up with Obi to Indiana trade rumors? :-O

Pretty pathetic defense…but I see ISM at the scorers table ready to check in…that should help…

Just caught the end of the quarter. Kind of wish I had not. 35 points against? Something Thibs is saying is not getting through.

Hartenstein said in november he’s suffering from an inflamed achilles tendon that limit his mobility and quickness since the summer.
Achilles isn’t a joke, I don’t get why he’s always playing…

Watch your mouth, Pepper (he says as Deuce gets blocked into the second row).

Trying to figure out the rest of the Knicks. Is Randle Fentanyl?

May cause toxic effect in non-opiate using patients
May make you drowsy or dizzy. Drive with caution
Taking a larger dose may cause breathing problems.

I like Alan fine, but this stretch without Clyde would have been a nice chance to try Monica with Breen. I think she’d be great.

Availability is the most important skill in the NBA… unless it’s for Thibodeau, then it’s an active detriment

Weird how the unathletic Grimes keeps getting to the rim.

Grimes 4/6 inside the arc. Not bad for a standstill shooting, talentless, tier 5 hustle player.

Back. Can’t check the box. Wow. Just caught Mitch block and E4 three. IQ has 24. Is this my dream from before the season 😉

IQ taken 24 shots & 6 FTs… sorry to rain…

Still been great everywhere else though

Yeah, 27 on 25 shots isn’t great but he’s doing lots of good stuff overall.

Meanwhile, Deuce keeps clanking away…

Can we play these guys more?

…and I’m not gonna shit on Randle for at least a week…gonna focus my ire at thibs…

IQ is playing point guard. I don’t know why, but point guards are usually less efficient shooters than other players. I’m not worried he took 25 shots to get 25 points. He had a good number of assists and not many turnovers so he did he job as point guard.

Yes, the Rockets might be better than the Spurs, but come on, they’re both horrible, and there was no way the Knicks were going to lose to both of them back-to-back.

So phew, heading into 2023 with a winning record. It’s something! Happy New Year’s, everyone!

I didn’t see any of the game, but looking at the box score Houston must have been terrible for us to win by 20 shooting the way we did.

Happy New Year

Apparently Obi is going to be out a lot longer than they initially thought. Man, I sure hope that’s not the reason for them wanting to get something for him that could help them for this year (it’s totally the reason they’re wanting to get something for him to help them this year, isn’t it?).

There never was a timetable per se, just a time when he would be re-evaluated…which I guess didn’t go as well as hoped…

Indeed. I predict it will be joyful for Luka. 51 again and he did some cool shit at the end of a 1 point game.

Two other one pointers also. Tyrese with a ho hum 10 assists no turnover game. Guy is unreal

Lots of fun basketball to look forward to

I would think being injured reduces his value. And the current Knicks seem to be value conscious. Hi injury is unlikely to be a cause to trade him

If they want to compete this year, he might not play much this year at all, so if they want someone who can help them this year, then it would make sense to trade him from that very limited perspective. I agree that I would hope that wouldn’t play into things, but trading him at this point while he is hurt is strange period, so I fear that that does play into things.

Based on Knicks medical staff’s usual evaluation skill, Obi is done for the year.
