    Opening night!

Funny thing is that I’m u likely to watch much or any of the game, or even the yankees in ALCS game 1. It’s my birthday, so I’ll probably just be hanging with my family, none of whom cares about sports. Maybe we’ll do a Bluey marathon?

    Happy Birthday Alan!

Wish you both a Knicks and a Yankees win, but if you have to choose… please choose the Bombers’ one, the Knicks have other 81 games to play!

My surprise pick this year is Orlando. I think the Paolo Banchero/Franz Wagner forward combo will click right away. It’s annoying that we pick 3rd and get RJ while the Magic pick 8th and get Franz who’s a year and a half younger and already better than RJ, but c’est la vie.

    Happy birthday Alan!!!

Sure, steal the thunder from all the clever Knicks and Yankees comments I was thinking about making this morning

A birthday present Win tonight wouldn’t be so bad!
    Happy birthday Alan!
    Happy birthday Me too!

Happy B-day to Alan and KYN.

Wishing Yankees fans joy and success as well.

    Go Knicks!

Happy birthday guys! Mine is coming up Saturday. I really thought about getting tickets to the game and driving to Memphis from Nashville but I already have tickets to the Titans game for Sunday this week.

I don’t care about the Knicks opening day, I for real just came here to wish Alan and The poster formerly known as Knew Your Knicks a happy birthday. But I see it’s already been done by many (I thought that was my job to remember, since they share it with my oldest daughter). Happy birthday, guys! (I guess I’ll hope for a knicks win tonight, so that you both go to bed happy).

Happy birthday guys, I don’t know how KYN feels about the Yankees but regardless you’re both owed two wins tonight.

I said the first day we heard about Grimes’ injury that “in a walking boot” and “day-to-day” were not exactly consistent and at this point I’m assuming we get ~25 games from him this year.

Re: the Yankees, it’s almost tempting to more or less punt this game from a bullpen perspective and live to fight for game 2. Taillon and a worn out, already mediocre bullpen vs Verlander and the well-rested Astros doesn’t inspire confidence. But hey, it only takes one swing so who knows?

Hoping Peraza is on the roster, and while I’m sad for Hicks (struggles aside, he’s been a good Yankee and seems like a good guy) his injury should make that easier.

    Happy B’Day Alan, Happy B’Day KYN, and Donnie, you’ve missed one… Happy B’Day ras/Barrettcuda! 🥳
PS: But i don’t think i saw ras/Barrettcuda active since the blog renovation. Maybe he’s here with a new name to confuse us all. 😀

    Happy Birthday guys.

I’m not sure I’m looking forward to tonight. This is the first good team we have played, it’s opening night, we are on the road. My guess is that Memphis is going to come out fired up and ready.

This should be a good test for Brunson defensively. No one is going to stop Morant, but I don’t want to see Brunson getting abused. Morant is going to get his 25 points, just make him earn it.

Happy Birthday everyone (including Donnie’s eldest daughter).
Sadly I’ll miss the game tonight (drinks with the board chair, not something easily blown off). I’ll be rooting from afar, and look forward to being amused by the thread post-game, win or lose.

Interesting piece on Randle in the Ringer:

To Randle’s credit, the 27-year-old veteran has looked rejuvenated himself, in the preseason and during media availability. Most importantly, he’s shown a willingness to embrace a more complementary role. Over four preseason games, he finished fourth in both usage (21.4 percent) and total field goal attempts, behind Immanuel Quickley, Barrett, and Brunson. He also often kept the offense flowing instead of pounding the ball in isolation more often than not, making quicker, unselfish decisions to finish with a team-best assist-to-turnover ratio (17-to-3). “I’ve just bought into what Coach is doing, how he’s trying to play,” Randle said last Wednesday, following the Knicks’ sole preseason loss to the Pacers. “I’m just trying to be a leader and establish pace of play, unselfishness for our team, because I feel like we’re at our best when we play like that. … It kind of happens naturally. If the shot is there, take it. [If not], drive the ball, try to get to the rim. If it’s not there, we got shooters everywhere.”

busy day, need to remember to record the game(s) tonight…

we played Memphis tough last year…I think we have a shot at starting the year off with a win…

even though they’re not really hitting and their bullpen is a mess, I think the yanks have a decent shot at winning the series…sort of that nothing to worry about, nothing to lose…

Obi one of Zach Lowe’s 5 players to watch this season: https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/insider/story/_/id/34825343/5-most-intriguing-players-nba-season

I remain higher on Obi than some here. I think he can be a bona fide started, maybe borderline all-star one day. He’s got pretty unique tools for a big and seems dedicated to optimizing his production with them.

Lowe highlights his passing, which I’ve mentioned before as an underrated aspect of his game. He also says he’d try the Randle/Obi pairing a little more than “never.”

    Happy birthday, Alan and KYN!
Would love for both the Knicks and tanks to win tonight, but the Yankees winning is far more important at this juncture.

Oh, and big thank yous to geo, Hubert, JK47 and the rest of you all for the congrats and well-wishes a few days ago.

One last thing: Netflix announced yesterday that the new Last Chance U: Basketball szn drops December 13. Once again featuring our men’s bball team. I’m told I appear in one scene albeit briefly lol.

The Grizz are a little dinged up for this one. They’re already missing JJJ and are starting Santi Aldama, who was decent in the preseason but is very unproven. It also looks like starting SF is out for this one (he’s listed as doubtful) and Ziaire Williams, another wing who figures to be in their regular rotation, is listed as out. They’re a little thin on the wing.

Happy Birthday to both of you! Maybe you’ll get a competent Knicks team as your gift. I’m really hoping for a good performance tonight. If we can win or at least make tonight super close it will be a good sign for our improvement.

    Happy Birthday!

Gotta say. Very excited about the season. Won’t be able to watch tonight as I have a work thing. But this is the most excited and optimistic (but like realistically optimistic, not swifty optimism) that I’ve been in many many seasons.

The East is going to be tough. And we don’t have a legit “star” on the team. But we’re deep. We got a lot of good players. We got a lot of youth and potential for one of those youths to bust out. We got a legit good point guard running the show. Our defense should be top 10. Our offense should be better than last year, hopefully middle of the pack. We should rebound really well. Brunson will help with not turning the ball over so much. Mitch and RJ should be improved with their free throw shooting.

I don’t know. If the team really buys into this team first mentality and grinds it every game, we could be a lot of fun to watch and we got lots of draft picks to build on the future.

    Ian Begley
    @IanBegley
Tom Thibodeau has said several times in preseason that he thinks Mitchell Robinson is NBA’s offensive rebounder. Steven Adams, one of league’s best, agrees w/that assessment: “Probably, yeah probably. The dude’s really good, man. Positioning, tipped balls all that. He’s solid.”

Aside from the Brunson/Morant matchup I mentioned earlier (can Brunson at least hold his own defensively?), that Robinson/Adams matchup is a good one also because we’ll get to see what Robinson can do on the offensive boards with someone even stronger than him inside.

Last year Ras said “happy birthday Alan and it’s also my birthday” or something like that, and i remembered it because i’m not a real person, i’m an AI software that collects all sorts of information to use it in the future! LOL

i’m not a real person, i’m an AI software that collects all sorts of information to use it in the future!

    🙂

i hope you get a chance to take a nap today so you can stay up late to watch the game…

This is really beginning to feel like Mitch’s year.

    And Mitch’s contract is descending!

Honestly, that move was pretty brilliant by Leon.

    ***Donnie, you’ve missed one… Happy B’Day ras/Barrettcuda!***

I don’t think I know who ras is (I only really follow the off-season posters).

But I’m sorry we missed Jowles’ August birthday this year. Won’t happen again!

    Thanks for the wishes guys!

Don’t know shit bout baseball but the Yankees logo (the NY one) is iconic! Love it aesthetically!

No standard tradition bday foods but just ordered two souvlakis with kebab, bought a few sweets (savaren, profiterol, banoffee and chocolate piece of cake) plus a few snacks and beers for the game (if i manage to stay awake and watch it live)
    I’d call it a cheat-pornfood-fiesta!

How The Fuck Possible is that????!!!!

The delivery guy who just brought me my food wore a NY yankees logo baseball hat!!!!
    And he certainly wasn’t American!
Or had any idea bout baseball!

    WoW

Honestly, that move was pretty brilliant by Leon.

It really wasn’t, though. Descending contracts are standard operating procedure in the NBA for non-max players with bird rights.

The reason you don’t see a lot of them is because it is very rare that a player re-signs with his own team for less than a max. But when they do, they’re always either flat or descending

Other examples include Tim Hardaway’s Dallas extension, Robert Covington’s LA extension, and FVV’s Raptors extension.

It really would have made no sense for the contract to be anything other than descending. Why wouldn’t Mitch want his money now?

    ruj-roh

Ian Begley is saying the Knicks are still open to trading Quickly and Obi.

Ian Begley is saying the Knicks are still open to trading Quickly and Obi.

That’s so odd. How would they trade them now?

“That’s so odd. How would they trade them now?”

The premise of it was that they have a surplus of players on the depth chart and are eventually going to have to pay Obi and Quick. Given how much money they already have committed, they may not want to pay “both” of them. That would make one available. Also, other teams are aware of the situation and are likely to be calling about some of our young players. The Knicks will probably be listening.

I don’t think he meant any day now.

It’s one of his bold predictions for the season, not actual news. What he predicted: “New York will move one of the players it’s drafted in the Leon Rose era at some point in the league calendar”.

That part of the Begley column was definitely interesting, though I guess it technically could include Rokas and McBride too. It also felt like he was trying to do some kind of “I don’t want to say it explicitly but I’m kind of saying it” thing with Tobias Harris.

I don’t really want to delve into the possibilities of how badly they could mess that kind of trade up – not on Opening Night.

    But yeah….

This isn’t going to stop being a thing is it:

“Stephen A.: Ainge Said He’d Trade Donovan Mitchell to Knicks ‘When Hell Freezes Over’”

    “And Grimes too.”

First Grimes was untradeable because we like him so much. Now he’s untradeable because he probably has plantar fasciitis. 🙂

Cam Reddish is getting first crack at that rotation spot tonight!

I’d like to be Stephen A. Smith and get paid to say stupid things.
Unfortunately I usually do it for free…

“I’d like to be Stephen A. Smith and get paid to say stupid things.
Unfortunately I usually do it for free…”

I’m still trying to figure out if Stephen A Smith is the least knowledgeable person covering sports in America or a mad genius troll.

The evidence in favor of him not knowing what he’s talking about is everything he says.

The evidence of genius is his bank account.

“Open to trading” is different from “looking to trade”.

IQ makes sense with the backcourt overfilled, even if I hate the idea.

Obi is weird because we only have 2 PFs unless iHart can slide over.

Happy Knicks opening day! May your expectations be low and your derangement be unrelenting.
