I think the most exciting part of Mitch’s post practice presser referenced in that article up there about Mitch, was when he talked about he and D Rose doing sprints for 3 minutes after every practice. An in-shape Mitch at 270 with endurance combined with his uncanny athleticism at that size is going to be a problem for teams to deal with. I also like the fact that Brunson will look for him in the paint on switches and mismatches instead of only lobs. Sounds like we may see the Mitch we’ve wanted this season. I would say my hope for Mitch this season is 70% from the floor, 65-68% from the line, and 12ppg/10rpg/2bpg/1spg. Admittedly that is quite a leap for him, but one I think he can hit if he’s worked as hard as he says this offseason. Hell, I’d be happy with him hitting anything over 60% at the line lol. Fingers crossed on health of course.

I’ll be at the big game tonight!
(my daughter’s volleyball game, of course!)

So good she’s healthy again, i hope she has a great game and you have fun. 🙂

I guess Wemby can play PF for France, no? But Gobert must be super annoyed about Embiid joining the team, because there’s no way Embiid isn’t the starter.

The comparison to the 2012-2013 Nuggets is interesting and I’m going to petulantly take credit for being the first to make it.

We ain’t sniffing 57 wins, but the broader blueprint of making up for not having a typical high-usage apex predator type by organizing a ruthlessly democratic offense, getting imperfect defenders to buy into a scheme, and exhausting opponents with quality depth makes sense for us to try to emulate.

We can ask Evan Fournier for some tips, he was a fresh faced rookie on that team.

    The problems are:

    1) I don’t see Thibodeau coaxing the same level of unselfishness out of this group. No one on that team averaged so much as 19 PTS/36. Prove me wrong!

    2) This whole conversation is irrelevant if Randle and RJ don’t get rather significantly more efficient–that Nuggets team did actually have an analogue in the form of Corey Brewer, but every other rotation player was around league average or better efficiency-wise

Having to figure out how to deploy Gobert, Embiid and VW is a good problem to have I figure.

Z-man, I meant that’s great. I don’t know how the “no” got in there.

The Nuggets were also second in the league in pace and, as TNFH alluded to, had a number of players — JaVale, Faried, Chandler, Lawson — whose quality and efficiency outpaced their renown.

They were also only 19-22 on the road. They were more flash-in-the-pan than paragon.

draymond has to get suspended now that the video has leaked. portis got 8 games for punching mirotic.

Yes, the efficiency of our “stars” not named Brunson is obviously the problem, and that’s not always an easy fix.

Randle can fix it simply by playing how he used to before coming to the Knicks, but it’s unlikely he’ll stop shooting threes. Still, if he continues to eliminate long twos and hones his shot selection, he will probably have decent efficiency.

RJ is a bigger problem, as he will have to learn to finish and shoot at least League average from three. Getting easy looks from Brunson should help a little, but it’s probably not going to be like Wiggins’ Golden State jump.

That said, one of those two will need to become high efficiency and the other medium efficiency for us to even think about playoff wins imo.

At least now he’ll have more time to be a podcaster that I ignore

What the hell was that about? Excited to see how people stretch to defend Dray this time.

I don’t know what the unpaid-intern-staffed Klutch troll farms are vomiting all over Twitter but the NBA redditsphere is throwing right crosses at Rich Paul, Chris Haynes and Draymond pretty good right now

Seems utterly indefensible but whenever I think that in modern America someone appears to tell me up is down.

Knicks say Cam Reddish (sprained left ankle) is available and Evan Fournier (rest) is out tonight vs Indiana.

So either IQ starts at SG, or Cam does. Either way, both Cam and Deuce should get ample minutes tonight.

Score one for Team Mopey from Mahoney at The Ringer:

Tom Thibodeau teams live and die on hard and fast rules, even when they keep good, young players glued to the bench and leave the defense vulnerable to hot perimeter shooting. Don’t count on lineup reinvention or dramatic halftime adjustments. The Knicks will stick to the principles they’ve ironed out from the first days of training camp, which lean conservative on defense (New York switched fewer ball screens than any team in the league last season, according to Second Spectrum) and fairly straightforward and scripted on offense. There’s a world in which this same roster could run wild and free, with smaller lineups and a more flexible style. It won’t happen; this is one of the slowest, most structured teams in the league, and that’s exactly the way Thibs wants it. Rather than change the way the team plays, the Knicks will bank on Jalen Brunson to elevate this group beyond its apparent limits. Maybe it’ll work. Or maybe the Knicks will look like every other Tom Thibodeau team, only with one more quality option trying to make the most of life within the same familiar designs.

Thanks guys, yes her knee is not 100% but not as serious as feared, slight tear of patellar cartilage.

The undertone of my comment is that I will miss both the Knicks and the Mets games, so looking forward to lots of insightful KB commentary, if there is such a thing!

For those who haven’t seen it, TMZ posted the video of the Draymond Green punch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuZJvhPzpUA

And several current and former players (so far Isaiah Thomas, Donovan Mitchell, and Richard Jefferson) have all made comments condemning Draymond Green for attacking a much smaller teammate whatever low-level employee leaked the video.

No word yet from Steve Kerr if this broke the code.

In Game 82, with less at stake than when a pensioner naps on his hammock, Tom Thibodeau started Alec Burks at point guard.

WHO LEAKED THE DRAFT WHERE WE TOOK AWAY THE SOVEREIGNTY OF A WOMAN’S BODY? WHO WAS IT? LET’S GET EM

What Dray did was deplorable. Even if he did that to an opposing player it’s still ugly and unnecessary- but you’d rather that energy be towards an opponent instead of a teammate. Poole wasn’t even paying him any mind until Dray decided to walk up on him and get in his face. Now..I don’t know how Poole grew up- but I grew up knowing that you don’t do that unless you want to fight. Poole was right to not expect that since Dray is a “teammate”- but he should still be prepared lol. I really wanna know exactly what kind of shit talk at practice- a championship unit no less- caused Dray to go off the deep edge. Situations like that, you get into a shoving match and then hash the shit out later. Draymond’s reaction was out of proportion. Now they HAVE to fight. It’s bad blood there now. I know Draymond is the heart and soul of that team- but I don’t see how GS will value him more than Poole at this point- with Klay and Steph entering the downside of their careers age and health-wise. That was ugly..I don’t know how they fix that and keep that team together. My guess is if Wiseman can play as good as his talent suggests, they will look to move Dray. I don’t know who’d want him though- his warts have been starting to show a whole lot recently. GS seems like the only squad equipped to deal with him. Wouldn’t it be something if the Dubs don’t make the playoffs this season? It’s certainly possible. Doubtful, but still possible..

    Now they HAVE to fight.

something tells me this newjack has the broadcast rights locked up

Part of the reason the Nuggets were efficient was that they played fast and got some easy transition baskets and partly because Karl was relentless in telling them to attack the basket and shoot 3s.

We don’t have to match to Nuggets in personnel or wins to incorporate some of what they did successfully. We are deep. Running will help wear some teams out late and get us easier shots. We may also get an extra easy basket here or there like Randle did the other night by leaking out.

I can’t see how Draymond doesn’t get a very stiff fine and suspension for that.

I assume Draymond is salty because he want’s GS to max him and they are not that stupid. He lit Poole up pretty good I’m not surprised the team wants him punished. Draymond is too big to be doing that sort of shit.

“They were also only 19-22 on the road. They were more flash-in-the-pan than paragon.”

Like I said a few days ago, even if you adjust their home record down for the fact that they had a bigger than average advantage in Denver, they still would easily have had a winning record at home and a solid record overall with Gallinari as arguably their best offensive player.

I’m glad for Cam he’s probably going to play tonight because Thibs is not going to play him once the season starts just to take a better look at him.

Today’s a crap day: my sister’s first “birthday” since she died earlier this year.

been spending a bunch of time lately trying to recall good/pleasant memories of the past…at least figuring out how to…the bad shit is pretty easy to regurgitate…

generally i use the past as a simple database…for some reason(s) i’m frightened like crazy of it…all of it…

getting ready for session 29 next week…the first 12 or so i just spent freaking out and trying to then slow down…

the next 12 or so were spent working on cognitive behavioral therapy…stuff like negative thought stopping and negative future projecting, finding positive habits like listening to relaxing music, walking/swimming, breathing, sleeping/eating better, cleaning the house…my circle has grown smaller, deeper though with those close by…

the last 4 sessions or so have been readjusting to work…

we’ve also discussed beginning cognitive processing therapy…that’s where you journal for 12 to 16 weeks to try to re-work the neural pathways associated with traumatic shit…there’s a lot of it too…

basically you journal once a day for about an hour, this is one of the workbooks currently in use:

    https://www.centreforchange.ca/images/ClientFollowUpResources/CPT-Patient-Workbook-Dec-2016-revised-9.2018_2.pdf

to say i’m not enthused to begin, would be something of an understatement – the plus though is, i’m much more worried about therapy these days than i am work…

in the here and now…my friend, who i’ve known for a long time, and whom i trust a great deal, helps me a bunch to recall positive memories…

hopefully you have someone close, whom you can share pleasant memories with…recall the good stuff…share a positive story…maybe not a bad day for simple pleasures (read: food, i can’t help myself)…

just saw the dray thing…that wasn’t no aaron donald who recently swung his helmet during pre-season nfl practice, that incident was some heat of the moment thing…

that looked like straight workplace violence there…i have no idea about the contracts they use, there should be something there though to void it for something like that…

no way the warriors should be on the hook for his contract…no way should you let him in the building…what happens the next time him or someone lese doing something that over the line and crazy…

Sorry to hear Alan, it’s always tough when a deceased family member’s first “birthday” rolls around (happened with my oldest brother, three years ago.) Do something nice for yourself and the memory of your sister today.

Green has to get suspended. I get that that stuff happens more than we know in practices but as the NBA you can’t have that video out there and not make it very, very clear that that kind of behavior can’t and won’t be tolerated. That was a punch with an intent to do serious damage- you can’t allow that in the workplace I don’t care how salty you’d like your practices to be. If the Warriors won’t suspend him the NBA needs to step in.

Sorry Alan. Same for me with my dad last month, it was his first birthday since he passed.

Wow, Phils pull Wheeler in the middle of the 7th inning in a game he was dominating, and the reliever promptly gives up a walk and a 2-run homer. I wonder why they pulled Wheeler (I’m not watching the game)?

I’m really surprised that neither Walker nor Williams is on the Mets roster for this first series. Hopefully they won’t need any long relief.

I guess they figure they have Peterson and Cookie if they need long relief. Walker has looked better than Cookie as of late though, so I dunno

According to the Post, Cookie is not on roster either. I guess the in case of emergency Peterson and Megill. And Daren Ruf on it also
ull Mets Wild Card Round roster
    PITCHERS (12)
    40 Bassitt, Chris
    48 deGrom, Jacob
    39 Díaz, Edwin
    60 Givens, Mychal

    0 Ottavino, Adam
    23 Peterson, David

    62 Smith, Drew

    CATCHERS (3)
    50 Álvarez, Francisco
    3 Nido, Tomás

    INFIELDERS (6)
    20 Alonso, Pete
    10 Escobar, Eduardo (S)

    19 Canha, Mark
    4 Gore, Terrance
    6 Marte, Starling
    9 Nimmo, Brandon (L)
    28 Ruf, Darin

JK, Cookie (Carrasco) is not on it either. That’s no surprise b/c he’s been very shaky lately. Walker looked awesome his last start, and they even pulled him early like they were saving him.

They do have Peterson, I guess. Risky, though. Probably won’t matter. Peterson does give them a second lefty.

I’d have put Walker on rather than Megill. He’s sucked since coming back off the IL.

Oh geez, Megill is on the roster? He can’t get anybody out and has zero confidence. I wouldn’t want to put him in a regular season game under any circumstances, let alone a playoff game.

Bo, I’m guessing Ruf is there b/c he can (sort of) play both 1b and OF. No way they want to have to put Vogelbach in the field at 1b if Alonso gets hurt.

A bit of a snub to Naquin, but he’s been almost as bad as Ruf.

Rosario and Gimenez combined for 3 hits today in Cleveland’s win. I wonder if that will motivate Lindor?
    🙂

Given how prone he is to injury and his complete and utter inability to understand the fundamentals of basketball, this may be the last time we see Cam on the court in a Knicks uniform. Must watch TV.

Starling Marte back in the lineup for the Mets. Even with a busted finger he has to be better than Naquin and Ruf and the other crap the Mets have been sending out there at the bottom of the lineup.

101 wins is 101 wins, but I have to kind of accept at this point that better deadline acquisitions might have pushed the Mets over that hump for the division. Givens, Ruf and Naquin have all been godawful, and only Vogey has given the Mets anything at all.

The unhealthy fantasy is that given the chance to start, the light turns on for Cam, he impresses Thibs, blah blah.

The probable reality is that Cam continues to be his usual tantalizing but frustrating self, and that this speaks more to Thibs not wanting to start Quickley unless he has no other choice whatsoever.

Tonight will forever be known as “the night Cam Reddish figured it out”

    Or not…..

Ok get your shitty baseball talk out now ‘cause I better not see it on the sacred “Reddish Game” thread!

Only catching with this thread now, i’m sorry to hear about your sister, Alan. I know she was gone way to soon, but i hope she had a good life and that you can get some comfort reliving some of those moments. From Portugal, i send you a big electronic hug, my friend.
