Is Capela trolling Schroeder?
At least we got to see Lance Thomas for 12 minutes.
At this point not playing Frank is not that much of a tragedy.
Not playing Frank while giving Thomas + Burke 20+ minutes, instead, is a travesty.
Also, if we want to develop Knox as a scòrer, when will Fiz implement some scheme to ensure someone passes him the ball in the flow of the game in the second half?
If we’re not going to play him in NBA games he should be sent down to the G-League so he can get regular playing time and work on his game. It’s ridiculous that we’re yanking him in and out of the lineup seemingly at random.
Agreed.
I think he got yanked for that off-ball screen. That shit’s verboten under Dungeon Master Fizdale.
Have you guys seen the upcoming Knicks schedule?? The tank is full speed ahead!!
The management sucks.
The coach sucks.
Most of the players suck.
Other than that, the rebuild is right on schedule for 2023.
The Ralph Fiennes character in Maid in Manhattan had a dog named Rufus…
(I’m still working on the cultural significance of the “iamwhutiam”, “reub”, and “Ted Nelson” handles. Stay tuned).
Ralph Fiennes portrayal of Hades in the remake of Clash of the Titans was awful.
I hope everyone enjoyed their day! Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. Whatever one fits your life.
That’s fucked up. You got these guys, Fiz and Perry, constantly boasting about how they “fixed” Mudiay, bc all the talent was there, and he just needed confidence.
Well mudiay is still garbage, he’s just garbage that can occasionally have a few good scoring games now that he’s been relieved of having to play defense, run an offense, or make any of his teammates better. That kind of “talent” is literally a dime a dozen, but we can’t stop patting ourselves on the back for giving up a 2nd round pick for it and can’t wait to pay 8x what it’s worth in free agency.
Meanwhile the same idiot is actively breaking a better, younger prospect who’s under team control for 2.5 more years.
Maybe we should have asked more questions about Fizdale. It’s no surprise to me now that an intelligent player like Marc Gasol wanted nothing to do with him. The guy’s a snake oil salesman, like his boss, Steve Mills. He got run out of town after one season in Memphis and that should have been a bigger warning sign to everyone.
Bro it’s 3 months into his first season and you’re convinced he’s not a good coach because he won’t play an objectively bad basketball player in place of another objectively bad young basketball player. Maybe his reasoning behind not playing Frank is he can’t reinforce bad behavior (like being passive instead of attacking), and that a DNP or two would remind him to stay aggressive on the court. Maybe he is in fact making bad decisions, but it is way too early to know if Fizdale can’t coach or not.
We’re the worst team in the league like everybody wanted us to be. Things aren’t going to be pretty, and 4 Ntilikina DNP-CDs is not the end of the world. Relax.
Yeah, too early to tell on Fiz. And the eraly signaling from Perry about skipping free agency this summer is encouraging.
It is kinda funny that earlier in the season when the Knicks won a few games we didn’t expect many people here were complaining they were winning too many games that will cost them in the lottery. Now that they have been losing like crazy and have a legit chance of finishing with the worst record people are complaining the team sucks and has no talent leading to a rebuild that will take years. Way too many emotional swings during a season they’re basically tanking.
The thing you can legitimately talk about is the fact that we aren’t running any semblance of a real offense. It’s not like running a set offense is something new to any of these players. They’ve been doing it for most of their lives.
That’s the big thing that’s bothering me right now.
“Bro”, the guy’s family was in the town that just suffered a terrorist attack, his mother flew in for Christmas to see him, and you bench the guy while playing every scrub on the team? Give me a break. And I had to listen to 4 quarters of Chauncey Billups talking about how “Fiz magic” has “saved” Mudiay. The team is Vonleh and 5 guys who do nothing but look for their own shot and no one plays defense. Meanwhile the coach who wanted to come here* was on on the other sideline running circles around him. It was all a bit too much.
And why is being passive the only bad behavior that needs to be punished? When does giving no effort on defense get you in the dungeon? When does shooting under 35% from the floor force you to ride some pine?
* I know Brian 😉
Riding veterans to early season wins and destroying the confidence of a decent two way prospect who is under team control through 2021 are both symptomatic of the same problem.
I could care less that we’re losing and am not at all complaining about the lack of talent. It’s the Mills/Perry/Fizdale love affair with players that go 5-17 every game without ever passing the ball and who can’t play a lick on defense that has me irate. Because *that* is a signal of a problem we’re going to be dealing with for a long time.
Yeah, there are legit questions and this is right at the top. There are running a set offense, but it’s one that college teams are moving away from and that has never worked in the NBA in this form. We have an extremely bad roster that’s likely incapable of running any offense successfully and that’s got me holding out hope that this dumbed down bullshit exists solely to prevent the frustration of the triangle woes of year’s past, but come on. At least we’ve got pick and pops now. That’s a fairly recent addition.
And yeah, chucking gets you playing time, but it takes a couple months of blowing defensive assignments to get you benched. Have trouble creating off the dribble? Bench time for you!
For a stats based website, there is no statistical evidence being used to that a player only gets better by playing every day.
As far as I’m concerned that’s a myth until proven otherwise. I give no preference to playing Ntilikina vs benching him. If you disagree, prove me wrong.
I’m fine with the tank. This roster has a microscopic amount of talent on it. You can rearrange the pieces however you want, it’s still going to come out terrible.
Ntilikina had a couple of good back-to-back games a few weeks ago after being benched. That got him some burn in his next five games. Unfortunately he was FUCKING HORRIBLE in those next five games. He shot .214, 6 for 28 from the floor. I know he was a first round pick and he’s young, but, uh, the guy sure does seem to really suck at basketball. He probably sucks just as bad in practice as he does in the games. I don’t care that his mom was at the game, this isn’t Little League and the Knicks aren’t drinking out of juice boxes and eating orange slices when the game is over. Stop playing like complete garbage if you want to play in front of mom in the big Christmas game.
I was okay with the Frank pick when it was made and I’d love to be able to watch a great defensive player on the Knicks but the eye test and the box score both say Frank cannot play this game at the NBA level. Send him to the G-League, do whatever with him, fine. But I’m not gonna cry because the point guard version of Frederic Weis isn’t getting enough burn.
Frank is the single worst player on the entire roster. He’s the worst player on the most talent-poor roster in the NBA. You could make a case that Hezonja has been just as bad, but Hezonja has at least played passable basketball at some point in the past.
…IS A BIG PART OF WHAT WE DO HERE!
Yes!! I’ve been wanting to use that line for years.
Some pretty negative threads lately, especially given it’s the holidays. At a macro level, the Knicks are doing essentially what we’ve wanted: tanking and playing young players.
I get why someone would be skeptical of Mills. I get the Fizdale skepticism: lack of offensive scheme and yanking some of the young players around. Should we give Perry more leeway though? The Mud trade and Hez signings are iffy, but ultimately pretty meaningless. The long-term signals have been good (getting out of our own way with the draft and bad contracts) and we haven’t seen any evidence he is determining playing time. While Knox and Trier continued the trend of single-minded shooters, the reality is we hit a home-run with our two later pick-ups, and one of them is the exact opposite style as a high-efficiency, rim-protecting center. Crappy teams should be focusing on upside rather than filling needs in the draft, so I wouldn’t judge too much based on the style of players we picked anyway.
I’d think what we do at the trade deadline should be revealing. If we can flip some of the vets for any kind of asset (and/or get rid of Lee by attaching someone like Mud) I think that’s pretty encouraging. If all we do is look at trading Frank or Dotson, then yeah, seems like we haven’t learned from our mistakes.
Come on. His mother flew from Strasbourg to watch her son play in the NBA for the first time, and on Christmas. And they’re from a town that a) celebrates Christmas more than any place on earth, and b) just suffered a terrorist attack. Maybe pick another day for your dungeon crap. And if that’s the kind of dick that you are, at least spare me the bullshit that you’re some point guard whisperer whose turned Mudiay into gold by having confidence in him.
Frank is garbage ATM but we’re a tanking team and the likes of Burke and Lance Thomas are getting minutes over him. I don’t see how you would rather see those two get minutes over him.
Or just bench him *any other game* than the one where the kid’s mother came to see him on Christmas.
Trey Burke is 10 of his last 61 from the field. Maybe he’s playing over Frank for defense.
If THJ can get 33 min while shooting 4-18 from the field, Fiz could have found a few minutes for Frank.
Frank sucks. I mean really freaking sucks. Like JK47 said he is probably the worst player on the team with the worst roster in the league. THCJ said it the other day and he’s probably right, if the 2017 draft was re-drafted Frank will not only not be drafted in the 1st rd he might not be drafted period. Defensively the last game he played he was getting blown by left and right too. In today’s NBA a guard like Frank is completely useless.
Of course he sucks, and shouldn’t be seeing minutes over anyone but useless veterans. Those same veterans Fiz regularly employs for 15+ mpg, you know?
I agree that it’s a waste to play veterans ahead of him who won’t be here next year but Jesus Christ all the hand wringing and complaining on this site over a player as bad as Frank has become nauseating. Also as has been mentioned before Frank is probably just as bad in practice too, it comes to a point where I’m sure the coaching staff can’t justify playing him when at his position there are a bunch of players who aren’t exactly old that probably outplay him by a mile during practice too.
Say what you will about Knox and mocking him for being drafted cause of his play during 3 on 3 workouts but at least lately when given the playing time he has shown flashes where he looks like a possible future decent NBA player. Frank when given the minutes has gotten worse and is difficult to watch for us fans so I can imagine how it is for the coaches. Plus let’s face it, Frank was a Phil pick so this front office and coaching staff, rightly or not, probably have no “loyalty” to him like they do with Knox.
I mean for God’s sake people are trying to justify giving Frank playing time cause his mom was in the stands to watch him!!
That’s nonsense, but to DNP a 20 year old in a blowout doesn’t make sense either.
Fiz rotations have to stem from one of these two equally horrifying scenarios:
1) he has a mandate from Mills/Perry to play certain players as much as possible, until facts force him to do otherwise (i.e. Mario utterly sucking) and/or
2) he doesn’t know want to do with backcourt players who can’t create their own shot, defense be damned.
Whatever the case, there’s already a chance that Fiz is the umpteenth wrong coach for this team (not talking about W-L record).
